It was September 20th.
That was Angela's first thought when she woke up. She hadn't thought about this date in the last few years. It had been too painful knowing she was here in Connecticut and Tony was in Iowa. But now they were back together and she couldn't help but wonder if he would mention it or if he had anything planned to celebrate the day. If they hadn't broken up and been apart the last four years he probably would have. Even though he was no longer her housekeeper he still would have planned something. Should she say something to him? Should she wait and let him say something to her? What if he thought they didn't have any reason to celebrate it? After all, the reason they had celebrated all these years was to commemorate the day he and Samantha moved in and the five of them became a family. Of course they hadn't felt like a family at first. That had taken a while but before they had known it they had quietly and surprisingly merged into a non-conventional family. And every year-well except their second year when everyone had bailed out for various reasons and it was just the two of them-they all had either came here for dinner or gone out for dinner.
Except of course on their seventh anniversary when he had invited them all to a carnival in Brooklyn. At first she had been so disappointed and angry she barely had any fun. She knew she was being a drag but she had been hoping the two of them would have had a nice quiet dinner. But as he had said it was everyone's anniversary so he had invited them. Of course she knew he was right. It was the family anniversary but she still couldn't help being disappointed. After all Sam had been in college and Jonathan in high school and a part of her had hoped they would bow out. She knew her Mother would have since she had seen what she had gotten Tony for a present. But alas Sam and Jonathan had been excited to go and she hadn't wanted to spoil their fun so she had grinned and beared it.
But when they had arrived at the carnival Tony had all but ignored her. Well okay maybe ignore was too strong a word but he seemed to be more concerned that everyone else was having a good time and winning prizes for them at various games. In fact she had been the last person he had given a prize too. Even Fred Sam's weird date had gotten one before her. She had been in such a funk and she knew she was bringing the whole night down but she couldn't help herself. All she had wanted to do was give him the watch in a nice and quiet moment but instead they were surrounded by hundreds of people. But then the rest of them had decided to leave them-thanks to her Mother's nudging and finally it was just the two of them. She had even gone off with Mrs Rossini, something she never would have done . But she had known how much Angela had wanted to be alone with Tony so she had made the ultimate sacrifice for her daughter.
And then finally it had just been the two of them. Of course she knew giving him the watch then and there probably wasn't the best idea. It was too crowded and noisy and she preferred it being just the two of them.. It was, after all, an important and pivotal moment in their relationship. And she had wanted it to be perfect. She wanted to remember the moment when he read what she had the jeweler inscribe on the watch. But alas that hadn't been the case. Instead he had embarrassed himself and her by making a fool of himself when they visited the psychic. When Madame Alexander had said that deep down there was something he wanted to change he had said it was his barber. She had been so fed up with him and his insensitivity she had stormed off leaving him and the lady bug behind. At that point she didn't want to see him or talk to him. As far as she was concerned the whole night was ruined and she knew she couldn't and wouldn't give him the watch. She would have to wait for another time when she wasn't so upset. But alas fate had other ideas. When he finally caught up with her and apologized for clowning around he mentioned how crazy she had become by telling him that she saw the words: IT'S TIME I SAID I LOVE YOU written across time and that he was running the risk of losing his true love forever. Of course he had thought the whole idea was crazy which had infuriated her. So she practically threw the watch at him and stormed off. And she never got the chance to see his expression when he read it. But then later on she finally got to hear the words she had been waiting for. Of course he had shouted them at her first. But after a moment he said them again. This time time quietly, seriously, and lovingly. It hadn't been how she had pictured it but she wouldn't trade it for anything.
They were finally an official couple. And now after being apart these past few years they were together again. She couldn't help but wonder if anything would happen today. Would they all go out for a family dinner? Would it be just the two of them? Or would he just treat this day as just an ordinary day?
It was September 20th.
That was Tony's first thought when he woke up. He couldn't believe the day was finally here. He was so excited he had barely slept the night before. He couldn't wait until Angela watched the video and he finally proposed to her. He wanted this day to be absolutely perfect. The chef at the Country Club was preparing a gourmet feast for them and Renata of course was on hand to be their waitress. The only change he had made was instead of having Angela watching the video at the country club and proposing to her there he had decided it would be more romantic and memorable if they happened here at the house. After all, it was this house that had brought them together and where they had developed a friendship and fallen in love. He knew there was no other place that meant as much to them. And he knew there was no other place he wanted to ask her to marry him. All he had to do was wait until tonight.
He heard and felt her stir and he turned over and saw she was awake.
"Good morning, beautiful." he smiled.
"Good morning." she smiled back.
He winked at her and pointed to his lips. She laughed and crawled on top of him. .He pulled her close and gave her a deep and passionate kiss.
"You are so demanding." she smirked when they parted.
"Hey, you know I can't start my day until I kiss you."
"Even with morning breath?"
"Hey, I love your morning breath,"
"Oh really?"
'Oh yeah. In fact I love everything about you when you wake up. Your morning breath, your hair being in disarray. You are so adorable, sexy, and natural it is such a turn on."
"You are either in love or full of it." she laughed.
"Oh I'm in love baby. I am deeply and completely in love."
She smiled and kissed him. "
"So , I was wondering if you would like to go out tonight?" he asked when they stopped kissing.
"I would love to."
"Okay. Can you be ready by 7;00?"
She nodded.
"Okay it's a date." he smiled.
She smiled back and laid her head on his chest.
He was smiling too giddy with the fact that tonight all his planning would finally pay off and his dream was going to come true.
He would be engaged to the love of his life.
