Chapter 16
Jess POV
The week we got back to Tacoma, I quickly made an appointment when my OB/GYN. I wanted to get the appointment over with before I headed out to Bakersfield to go spend some time with Maria.
It was a couple days later, that I was loading a couple duffel bags into the trunk of my car when I heard a bike pull up. I looked to the end of the driveway and saw Donut climbing off his bike. "You know that you don't have to go." He said, watching me.
I nodded, "I know. I told Hap that I'd check in with Maria, make sure that she's doing okay. Then I'm gonna head back to Charming for a while. Be close by so I can go see Hap." I told him.
He pulled me into a hug. "Everything is going to be okay. Hap knows how to take care of himself in there." Donut told me.
"I know. Don't worry. I'll be back. I'm not leaving forever." I told him.
"Be careful. Let us know you made it safe." He told me and I nodded.
When I pulled out of my driveway, I headed to my appointment. I was scared. Kids were something that Hap and I had never talked about. I was hoping that when I told him that he wouldn't be mad. I was hoping that he was going to be excited.
When I left the doctor's office, I headed towards Bakersfield to Maria's house. I hadn't told her that I was coming. She didn't even know that Hap was locked up. I wasn't sure how she was going to react to the news.
It was a couple hours later, when I pulled into her driveway. She must have heard my car pull into the driveway because when I climbed out of the car, she stepped out onto the front porch. "Why didn't you tell me that you were coming?" She asked me as I made my way up the porch steps.
I hugged her. "I wanted to surprise you." I said.
She nodded. "No Happy?" She asked.
I shook my head. "Let's go inside. We need to talk." I said and she nodded.
We headed inside and sat on the couch together. "What's going on, mija?" She asked me
"Happy is in lock up right now. He and some of the guys in Charming got into some trouble. They're going to be locked up for the next year." I told her.
She put a hand on my knee. "How are you holding up?" She asked me.
I shrugged. "I'm okay. He wanted me to check on you. Make sure that you're okay and that your taking your medicine." I said.
She nodded. "I am. However, I'd been meaning to call you guys." She said.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"I've decided that this house is too big for just me. I want to sell it." Maria said.
I was shocked. Hap had once told me that she would never move out of this house. "Are you sure?" I asked her. She nodded. "Then what will you do?"
"I was actually thinking that if you and Hap were okay with it, I could move in with the two of you." Maria said, shocking me even more.
"I mean, I can certainly talk to him about it." I told her. She nodded and smiled at me. I couldn't tell her about the baby, yet. Not until I told Hap and could talk to him about her moving in with us. Plus, I needed to see if he still wanted to transfer to Redwood.
I spent the next week with Maria before I left heading back to Charming. I pulled into the lot and Gemma came running out of the office. I started to panic. Had something happened? I climbed out of my car, and she pulled me into a hug. "I've been worried about you." She said.
"Why?" I asked her.
"Lee called last week and said that you were making your way back." Gemma told me. "When you didn't arrive after a couple of day, I started to worry."
I couldn't help but laugh. "I made a stop in Bakersfield to check on Maria." I told her.
Gemma nodded. "You want me to take you to see Hap?" She asked me.
I perked up at this. I was missing him really bad. "They have visitation now?" I asked.
She nodded and smiled at me. "Yeah. We'll grab Ope and head down there." She said.
When I walked into Stockton Prison, I was having major Déjà vu, I remembered the first time that I'd ever stepped foot in here. It was the first time I'd come to see Ope, before he got sent to Chino. That was the first and only time that he let me come see him.
I sat there in the visitation room at a table waiting for a guard to show Hap in. I suddenly began to feel nervous. I still wasn't sure how he was going to react about me being pregnant, but I was hoping that it wasn't going to be bad. It wasn't much longer when he was showed in. He sat down across from and looked so happy to see me. He reached across the table and grabbed my hands. "I wasn't expecting to see you this soon." He said.
I smiled. "I know, but a couple of things came up and I needed to talk to you sooner rather than later." I said.
His smile dropped and he got serious. "What's going on?"
I sighed. "Well, the first," I said, pulling the ultrasound pictures out of my back pocket. I slid them across the table to him. He gave me a confused look before he flipped them over and looked at them.
After he looked at them, he looked up at me. "Is this for real?" He asked me. I nodded trying to judge his reaction. "We're gonna be parents." He said.
"Are you okay with that? I know that it's not something that we ever talked about." I said.
He had the biggest smile on his face that I'd ever seen. He gently squeezed my hand. "Babe, it's a little piece of you and a little piece of me. It links us together forever, no matter what. Nobody can come between that." He told me. I felt a few tears run down my face. "Babe, why are you crying?" He asked me.
I wiped the tears from my face. "Because that was possibly the sweetest thing that you have ever said to me." I told him.
"How far?" He asked me.
"Six weeks." I said.
"That was right about the time that I inked you." He said.
"That was a great night." I said, smiling at him.
"Who knows?"
"Just me and you. I haven't told anyone. Not even your mom." I told him and he nodded. "Speaking of your mom… she has decided that she wants to sell the house. She said that the house is too big for her."
Hap had a look of shock on his face. "She wants to sell the house?" He asked and I nodded. "Where's she gonna live?"
"She wants to move in with us." I told him.
He let go of my hand and sat back in his chair. "Wow. I wasn't expecting that." He said.
"I know, babe. Which is why I need to know do you still want to transfer to redwood?" I asked him.
He looked deep in thought. "I do but I want to make sure that you'd be okay moving back to Charming." He said.
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
"Babe…if we move back to Charming, you'll be near your family… Jax… Tara…" He said trailing off.
"Yes, that is all true, but I'll also have you, Gemma, Opie and Koz. I'll be okay if this is something that you want." I told him.
"I love you babe. I guess we're moving back to Charming." He told me.
"I'll get Gemma and the boys to help me find a house big enough for you, me, your mom and our little peanut." I said smiling at him.
"It sounds perfect." He said.
