On his bike, Kazuki was able to escape from their dire fate with Devimon. Using his knowledge of the area, he lost Devimon within the maze of warehouses and narrow alleyways, allowing them time to breathe.
Kazuki has taken refuge in one of the empty warehouses along the canal. Tucking his bike out of sight, he keeps himself and Hiyarimon in the shade to remain undetected, as well as keep the Digimon cool.
Kazuki keeps a lookout while remaining close to Hiyarimon. He talks to them in a hushed whisper, "Okay, we'll just stay here for a little longer, and then we can leave. No one comes in here after the incident 2 weeks ago. We should be fine." He tries to keep their morale up, at least to avoid either of them from panicking and doing something to blow their cover.
"Thank you….uh..what was your name again?" Hiyarimon is grateful, but also a little embarrassed that they were helped, but never bothered to ask by who.
"It's no problem. I couldn't leave you out there. And it's Kazuki…just Kazuki. I don't know the rest," he answers their question but keeps his attention on looking out for any potential sightings of Devimon.
Hiyarimon is confused by their words, "The rest? You don't know your own name? Did you lose it?"
Kazuki gets semi-distracted by the Digimon's questions. "I…it's complicated. I have amnesia, and let's save it as that for now. We got to keep our wits about us right now."
Hiyarimon agrees and stops the questioning for now. Both now stand guard, keeping in the dark.
"By the way, you said this thing was chasing you in the mountains. Why?" Breaking his own rule, Kazuki tries to get some information out of Hiyarimon.
"I don't know. I'm used to Digimon fighting, but I've never seen one like him out in the open, or even terrorizing my friends."
"So…he was just doing it for a laugh?" Kazuki feels a sense of grief, followed by anger.
"Yes. He just toyed with them. It wasn't even fair. I had to do something, so I fought back. That's when he started chasing me, and…well you were there for the rest."
Kazuki's hands are shaking. He braces himself against a wooden crate. "That's…that's just so cruel…to do that to someone…a Digimon….." Kazuki's vision becomes black and white again as static imagery clouds is vision. He remembers being in a lab, with a large beast-man Digimon resting on an operating table.
He can hear someone calling out to him, repeating "Kazuki…Kazuki…Kazuki…," he comes back to reality to find Hiyarimon shaking him. "Kazuki! What's wrong?!"
By the time Kazuki collects his bearings, Devimon crashes in through the roof. He lands right in front of them, eyes narrowed on them. "Found you~ Not that it was hard." Devimon breaks out into a laughing fit. "I had you for some time now. I like the idea of tearing away any hope you might have had."
Hiyarimon hides behind Kazuki, who willingly gets in the way of the demon Digimon, and the lesser one. Devimon extends their hand again.
"So, are you going to hand them over for me to crush, or not? This time, I really mean it when I say I might let you live. What do you say? Be a friend?"
Kazuki's head becomes sore. More and more, visions flash in his mind, showing him the same beast man Digimon in the lab, Leomon. He remembers them saving him from a thunderbolt, as well as dying during a storm. His smartwatch has finished downloading the update.
Devimon is growing impatient, becoming tired of their own sick game. "Well? Are you going to hand it over to me or not? I haven't got all day, human!"
As to respond, Kazuki grabs a piece of the roof that landed by his knees and flings it at Devimon. It does nothing but bounce of their forehead. "You're really bad at catching. I don't think handing the little guy over would be a good thing. So I won't. Happy?"
Devimon's crimson eyes before filled with the sight of murder as his lips curl into a disgusting smile, "Very." Devimon flaps their wings violently towards the pair, "Leather Wing!" Devimon's wings start to fire destructive waves toward Kazuki and Hiyarimon.
Kazuki grabs Hiyarimon, and flings himself out of the way of the attack, missing it entirely, leaving the crate he was kneeling against to explode from it. Before he can react, Devimon does it again, this time sending a miniature black tornado toward the pair.
Kazuki is quick to pick a box into its path before jumping out of the way of the attack. The tornado shattered the box, as well as anything else it picks it. The pressure sucks in the roof, bending the support beams before disbursing.
Kazuki is out of breath from the consecutive dodges, not helped by his madman riding from a few minutes ago. Hiyarimon, while still in his arms, is amazed by everything he's done for him. Before they can say anything, they call out Devimon being right behind the lad.
"Death Claw!" Kazuki kicks himself forward, tossing Hiyarimon in front of him just in case. The attack only slashes the back of their shirt but doesn't make contact with the skin as the demon's fingers pierced through the hard concrete. "Will you just stand still!" Devimon's rage is shown in their frustrated tone.
Hiyarimon picks themself up from where they landed and looks up to see Kazuki struggling to get back up. He's tired, nearly beaten, and in over their head. "Kazuki…you should run. He only wants me. You don't need to get involved with this."
Kazuki slowly gets back up, "You mean like how you didn't need to get involved with your friends?" Kazuki turns his attention to Devimon. "Maybe you should be the one to run, and I'll stay behind."
Hiyarimon grabs his leg, and tries to tug at the bottom of his trousers, wanting him to flee, pleading with him "Don't! You'll die!"
"I don't care about that!" Kazuki's voice breaks as his emotions take over. "I'm sick and tired of watching innocent creatures, and people being pushed around, and beaten down, all for the single crime of existing! I don't want to live in a world where that's the common rule! So if dying now means you get another second of life, then so be it! Come at me Devimon! Pick on someone closer to your size!"
"I'll make your death quick human!" Devimon charges at him, extending both hands out, using his Death Claw attack again.
Hiyarimon leaps in the way, getting between the two. The smartwatch around Kazuki's wrist flashes, beeping a familiar, catchy tune. Hiyarimon himself starts to glow, his body radiating as his data wraps, he's evolving.
"Hiyarimon, digivolve too…," A pair of ice-cold, frozen claws grab Devimon's, catching them mid-swing. Standing there in Hiyarimon's place is his new form, "Blucomon!" A small blue ice dragon with a collar of white fur. Their ice-made claws dig into Devimon's hand, piercing the back like daggers.
Thanks to the bond formed between Kazuki and Hiyarimon, as well as the bravery of the two, allowed him to evolve into his current form. With the smartwatch on his wrist, Kazuki is immediately smacked with the data of Blucomon, his attacks, typing, and attribute.
Through this connection, both partners decide on the next course of action. Blucomon opens its new dragon mouth, "Baby Hail!" Blucomon spits out a barrage of knife-sharp ickles in Devimon's face.
Despite being a higher evolution than Blucomon, the attack still hurts, some of the ickles even cut their face, as well as pierce his wings. Devimon can't move with Blucomon's nails digging into them.
"Ice Mash!" Letting go, Blucomon starts slashing at the Digimon with their claws, scratching their body fast and hard. Devimon is still dazed from the prior attack to counter.
"That's it, knock him back…, huh..," Kazuki looks up when he starts noticing rubble coming from the roof. An idea forms quickly. "Blucomon, aim for the supports around that area!"
Taking their partner's word, Blucomon uses another Baby Hail attack, firing more ickles into the beams. One of them detaches from the others. A large chunk of the roof falls with it, the weight helps carry the beam down. When Devimon tries to attack, the beam lands on top of him, crushing him between the beam and the floor.
Devimon is stuck under the pile of debris, only their hand sticks out of the wreckage. Both are stunned at the sight of their win. It takes a while for it to properly set in what just happened. The very second it occurs to them, they don't hold back their cheers.
Blucomon leaps to the stop, cheering happily at the win over Devimon. Kazuki is still wheeling over everything being thrown at him all at once.
The rubble starts shaking as Devimon tries to push themself back up. He struggles to knock the debris off him. The partners can clearly see his sharp red eyes piercing through the rubble.
"Don't get cocky…," Devimon's tone is breathy, a lot was taken out on him during the fight. "I'm just playing with you. Once I get serious, you're both…," Before he can get another word in, a hole in the floor appears, similar to the one that brought him to this world. The world turns blue for Kazuki as Devimon slips through the portal before it closes.
With the fight over, Kazuki drops to his knees. Blucomon comes to their side, trying to catch them as they come down. It takes a moment for Kazuki to recover. The excess of energy was a new high for him. He comforts the blue dragon by patting them on the head, "It's okay, I'm fine. It was just a new experience for me. I think."
Kazuki gets back up and starts making their way over to the other side of the warehouse. He pulls his bag and bike out of hiding, slowly regaining his bearings.
He looks back at Blucomon curiously, and asks "So what are you going to do now? Are you going to find your way back home, or…what?"
Blucomon looks down at his hands, clenching his fingers. "I don't know for sure. Besides Devimon, we lived a peaceful life in the mountains. And to tell you the truth, I'm not even sure how I got here to begin with."
As Blucomon is having their monologue, Kazuki gets on his bike and stirs himself facing the opening in the door. "Well, if you're not in a hurry to go back. Do you want to come with me and chill out around here?"
Blucomon leaps onto their shoulders, gripping them tight as they sit behind them, "I thought you'd never ask. Where are we going first?" On that note, the pair ride off down the clear street on their bike.
