Chapter 6: Attachment
A few days have passed since Amy came back from Miami. Something interesting Amy and Ricky have noticed is that Robbie has become very attached to them. Like anytime they take him to school, he doesn't want them to leave. This wasn't a issue last time they took custody of him. Even when they're at home, he doesn't wanna leave their side. He wants to be wherever they are even if it's something or somewhere that typically wouldn't interest a kid his age.
The day started off good. The problems started when Amy told Robbie she was leaving after watching him color for 5 minutes.
"Robbie, I have to go to school now. I'll see you later. I love you." Amy said with a smile as she gave him a hug
"I don't want you to leave." Robbie said sadly
"I have to. I'll see you later I promise." Amy said trying to reassure him
"I don't want you to leave me like when you went to Miami." Robbie said sadly
"I promise I'll see you later and we'll spend plenty of time together." Amy said
"Everyone seems to leave me. 1st my donors now my mommy." Robbie says sadly shocking Amy
"I'm sorry. It'll only be for a little bit." Amy said
"Robbie, your friends are here. Wanna go say hi to them?" Mrs Chan asked him with a smile
"Sure." Robbie said as he ran off
"Thank you. I'll see you later." Amy said as she left
The rest of the day went well. Throughout the day, Amy had what Robbie said to her on her mind. She thought about the conversation she had with Ricky about her family the day before. She thought about how she referred to her dad, Cindy, Anne and Robbie's biological mother as donors. She also thought about how Robbie most likely overheard when they thought he was asleep.
During bedtime, Robbie managed to shock both Ricky and Amy.
"Goodnight Robbie. We love you." Ricky said with a smile
"Goodnight mommy and daddy. I love you too." Robbie said with a smile as Ricky and Amy left his room
"I was not expecting that." Ricky said as he and Amy sat on the couch
"He called me mommy when I took him to school earlier." Amy said
"I don't know how to feel about being called daddy." Ricky said
"I never thought he'd ever call us mommy and daddy." Amy said
"I'm just scared that if he ever sees your dad again and calls us mommy and daddy that he'll get offended and beat the crap out of me." Ricky said
"He had the chance to be called daddy. He blew it. Yeah we call him dad but." Amy started off
"You and your sisters see him and your moms as donors." Ricky finished
"Yeah. Speaking off, when Robbie was freaking out earlier today about me leaving him at school and called his mom and dad donors when he referenced them abandoning him." Amy said
"I wasn't expecting him to ever say that until he was Ashley's age maybe younger." Ricky said
"I wasn't until he said that earlier. I think he overheard us talking last night and heard me refer to our parents as donors when we thought he was asleep." Amy said
"That's probably what happened. Now the question is do we tell him that you're his sister and I'm your boyfriend or do we let him just call us mommy and daddy?" Ricky asked
"I wish is knew the answer to that but I don't. Honestly we could talk to him about it tomorrow morning and explain to him that I'm his sister and you're my boyfriend and he can always call us Amy and Ricky like he used too." Amy said
"You're right. Let's see how that conversation goes tomorrow morning. Love you." Ricky said as he kissed Amy goodnight
"Love you too." Amy said with a smile as they went to bed
