Jo had just arrived back home to her apartment in New Zealand after another long day of shooting for Chauncy Jackson. She was having the experience of a lifetime, but now that they were in the thick of things, she had slowly discovered that acting in a big-budget blockbuster took a lot out of you, and she had thought her schedule on New Town High had been crazy at times, it was nothing compared to this.
Or maybe it was due partially or to be honest pretty major reason. Despite her dad always being there for her, and all her new friends in the cast, she didn't have as many chances to let loose and blow off steam by getting roped into Big Time Rush's crazy adventures. More specifically than that, being able to relax and be with Kendall. No matter what they did together, even their one-minute dates always refreshed her and made her ready to take on anything just by filling her up with all her feelings of happiness and love for him.
She and Kendall had made things work for the first two months of being in a long-distance relationship, both of them making it a priority to call each other when Kendall woke up every morning so he could tell Jo goodnight and tuck her in on the phone. But then Big Time Rush's world tour began and while Jo was beyond happy and proud for Kendall and all the guys for earning such an accomplishment, the tour was making things much more difficult for her and Kendall.
As BTR toured their way through Europe for the past month, and by now were well into Asia, Kendall and Jo hadn't been able to keep their promise to each other. Between time zone changes, jet lag, and the crazy busy schedule Gustavo had his dogs on, plus of course, Jo's busy schedule where she was on set ten to twelve hours every day had made it nearly impossible for them to call each other at all, much less for Kendall to tell her goodnight every night or sing her to sleep like he used to.
And while she never told Kendall how much this bothered her when they did get the chance to talk because the last thing she wanted to do was make him feel guilty about his own dreams of success. Jo was feeling more and more miserable, every moment she wasn't working she had her phone in her hand, praying for even a text from Kendall, but beyond pictures of him and the guys touring the sites of whatever city they were performing in that day, there wasn't much coming to her.
She had done her best to think of ways to make this feeling go away but beyond working herself to exhaustion so she was too tired to think about Kendall at the end of the day, she knew that wouldn't help her, and would probably make everything else in her life worse. There was another possible option, but Jo refused to even consider it because it would mean giving up, and she never gave up.
When they did get the chance to talk, Jo could tell just as much as Kendall tried to always be upbeat and excited, there were moments where his confident, happy façade slipped for a moment, and Jo felt like she could see it in his eyes, they were filled with all the same worries that she had. Worries she didn't want to think about, but that was harder to ignore each day. She knew what she wanted, but he will always be out of her reach for the next three years.
Jo sat down on her couch and was surprised when her phone vibrated in her pocket. She dug it out excitedly, hoping it was Kendall, but was even more surprised to find out it was a text from Logan, instead of Kendall or Camille. She hadn't spoken to any of the other guys at all since she left, and then she was surprised and a bit confused at what the message read.
Are you free for us to talk?
Yes I am Jo texted back.
A few moments later, her phone started ringing, saying Logan wanted to video chat. So she pressed to answer, and her screen was filled with the faces of three Big Time Rush members, but not the one she wanted to see the most.
"Hey guys." Jo did her best to smile excitedly.
"Hey Jo!" Carlos, James, and Logan all replied happily.
"So, how's the tour going? Where are you right now?"
"We're performing in Tokyo, Japan for the next three days," Logan answered.
"And the tour is going amazing. I even made a new friend!" Carlos held up a glass jar, Jo couldn't tell what was in it though.
"Jo doesn't want to hear about your French cricket!" James pulled Carlos back. "The tour is going great Jo, for all of us and we could tell you so many stories…but there is a reason we're calling you," James said with a slightly pained expression.
Jo's mind immediately assumed the worst, "Oh no! Did something happen to Kendall? Where is he? Is he hurt? What's going on?"
"Don't worry Jo. Kendall's in the other hotel room sleeping." Logan was quick to reassure her. "He's totally fine physically, and we know he's enjoying the tour just as much as we are… but well… ok I'll be the first to admit, Camille and I are currently in the off-again phase of our relationship while we're on tour and that has been a struggle for me at times… But we know Kendall is really struggling with…well…"
"With you. Or not being with you." James supplied as Logan had started trailing off awkwardly. "He's nowhere near as bad as he was the first two weeks you were gone, but he's one of us, and we know he's hurting, even though he won't admit to it anymore".
"What do you mean? I mean of course, I miss him too, but what's he like?" Jo couldn't help but still be worried for him, no matter how far away he was.
"Whenever we have a quiet moment, he gets this faraway look in his eye, and we can tell he's thinking about you," James said.
"And whenever he tries to call you and you don't pick up, or when he picks up his phone and realizes that he missed your call, that just shuts him down for the rest of the day." Carlos said, "He can still go out and perform but we know him too well. We know when he's faking it."
"Yeah, we've just all agreed to pretend we don't notice unless he asks us for help," Logan added.
"Which he hasn't. And if Gustavo or Kelly happens to notice something's off, he'll just insist he's fine until they drop it." James finished up.
"OK, I get it, I get it. So what do you want me to do? Do you want me to try calling him more?" Jo asked them.
"While I'm sure he would appreciate that," James said with a smile on his face, "we have a better idea."
"Alright, I'm all ears," Jo said.
"So in about two weeks from now, we'll be in Sydney, Australia to perform, and we convinced Kelly to convince Gustavo to pay for an extra plane ticket and hotel room for you. Plus of course your usual VIP/backstage pass." Carlos said.
"Basically, we think it would be really great for Kendall if you could come to see him. Before we left the three of us even convinced Gustavo to try to add a stop in New Zealand as a surprise but it didn't work out." James revealed.
"So, if you aren't too busy, do you think you could apparate away from the Magic Gallows for a day or two?" Logan asked.
"Apparate? What's that?" Carlos asked.
"It's something from the book." Logan sighed in exasperation.
"Yeah, if it's the weekend I should be able to." Jo nodded.
"Oh, and we also got a ticket for your dad if he needs to come with you too," James added.
"I don't think my dad will be a problem, totally honest, I may be acting a bit like Kendall when I'm at home," Jo admitted. "Thank you guys, you have no idea what this means to me." She said and started smiling brighter as it started to sink in that she could be seeing Kendall soon.
"We care about you and Kendall Jo. I know we haven't kept in touch, like at all since you left, but you're our friend too." Logan said.
"Thanks you guys, so is there any more you have planned out already?"
"Actually yes, we think we have the perfect moment for you to meet up with Kendall. So at all our concerts when we sing Worldwide…" James started explaining the plan, and Jo knew it would be perfect.
A few weeks later, Big Time Rush made it to the land down under, which meant the world part of their world tour was almost over. After the next few days, they'd be flying back to the US to finish off their tour across North America. Kendall was of course just as excited as always to be performing and traveling the world with his best friends, but as much as he tried to hide it from his best friends, he couldn't deny himself over how much he was missing Jo. And he blamed himself for that.
Thanks to their world travels he and Jo had only really managed to talk about once a week since they began the tour, and he always wished for so much more. Most of the time, if he wasn't doing something fun with his friends, all he was doing was thinking about Jo.
Tonight was their second of three concerts in Sydney, and Kendall loved almost every moment of every concert they did. One thing he learned was that performing with his friends in front of crowds of a thousand screaming fans would never get old. There was only one thing he didn't like about the concerts.
When Gustavo made their setlist, he decided that the Worldwide song would be used to bring a few fans up on stage to sing with the guys. Kendall always loved interacting with their fans no matter what, but Kendall really wished that Gustavo had chosen literally any other song for that part because whenever he sang that song, there was only ever one person on his mind. Jo, his worldwide girl, he only ever felt like he was singing that song for her. So every single night he put all his emotions, all his love, hurt, worries, and loneliness into the lyrics with his entire heart. Honestly, there had even been a few nights where tears would escape as he sang, but thankfully no one could ever notice. The only thing that kept him from fighting Gustavo's plan was that he knew the fans absolutely loved that part of their concerts, and he'd do anything for his fans.
Right now it was that time of the night, the guys had a quick water break/costume change before Worldwide. Normally Kendall and the guys attempted to break the world record for fastest costume change during their concerts, but tonight all of them had suggested taking a break from that mission tonight, and even though Kendall wanted to keep trying with how close they had gotten over the past week, he reluctantly agreed. But he had a feeling something more was up, just from the way Carlos was acting especially giggly tonight and James and Logan kept sharing knowing looks between themselves. Plus the fact that Logan gave him some rambling excuse as to why they weren't working on the record tonight, which James interrupted and just said they were a bit more jet-lagged than usual tonight. Which Kendall had accepted with some mild suspicion.
After they all finished changing, Gustavo handed them their microphones and gave them the game plan like normal, even though Kendall was pretty sure all of them could perform the entire concert in their sleep at this point.
"Remember Worldwide is up next, remember to choose your fans wisely, we don't need anyone too crazy like what happened in Kerplankistan. Got it, James?"
"That was one time!" James whined.
"And remember to put all your emotion into it. The song is about missing a lost love, separated by an unimaginable distance, but you'll never forget her."
"We know Gustavo." Kendall groaned, he was really tired of hearing this speech. Every thought in his head centered on missing Jo but he tried to tamp it down to act upbeat and happy.
"And you're on in three, two, one!" Gustavo shouted.
"Let's go!" James led the way past the curtain and the four of them ran out on stage. "What's up Sydney?!" James shouted out and received a roar of applause in return.
"Now this is our first-ever worldwide tour, and let me tell you this is literally the farthest any of us have ever been away from home," Carlos said.
"Yep, we're definitely not in Minnesota anymore." Kendall joked, smiling widely and forcing himself to be upbeat.
"You got that right Kendall, but in honor of this being our first world tour, we have a little tradition you may have heard of," Logan added and got another round of excited screams.
"Yep, and for this tradition, we're going to need some help from our awesome fans," Carlos added.
"Who wants to join us up here on stage?!" Kendall shouted and he received an even larger scream of excitement from the audience. "I'm glad you're all excited so let's see…" Kendall scanned the crowd for who he would pick as his worldwide girl when Logan pulled him over to the side of the stage.
"Kendall, I think I found the perfect girl for you," Logan said into his mike. Kendall was a bit confused, this wasn't part of their usual script for this. Logan pointed out into the crowd. "Can you see her holding the I heart Kendall sign? About ten rows back right by the aisle. Black jacket and white top."
Kendall followed Logan's pointing finger and quickly located the sign, and the girl holding it…he froze and blinked a few times because it had to be his eyes playing tricks on him in the dark arena they were performing in, because… it couldn't be her… but…
"Logan," Kendall whispered in his ear so their mikes wouldn't catch it. "Is that…?"
"Yes, it is buddy," Logan whispered back. "So what do you think Kendall?" He said loudly into his mike.
"Well, with a sign like that, how can I say no? Come on up here… Jo." Kendall said.
Jo smiled at him, and he felt himself going weak at the knees. Freight Train was already halfway to her seat ready to escort her on stage, and it dawned on Kendall that he must have been in on this too.
Jo acted overly excited and waved her sign in the air before she smiled at Freight Train and let him escort her to the stage.
Kendall was momentarily blind and deaf to everything else around him. The screams of the crowd, and his friend's voices as they found their own Worldwide Girls all disappeared, hidden behind the sound of his pounding heartbeat as Jo slowly walked closer and closer, closer to him, closer than they'd been in the past four months. Not thousands of miles away, she'd standing right beside him.
Jo stepped on stage and made a B-line straight toward Kendall, and the moment she was in reach, Kendall wrapped her up in a tight hug burying his nose into the familiar fruity scent of her beautiful golden hair, while Jo had her face buried into his shoulder, holding onto him just as tightly.
"Jo…I…you." He whispered into her ear his voice shaking, but he had no idea what to even say.
"I know," Jo whispered back, her voice filled with just as much emotion. "But come on, we have a crowd to wow."
"You're right." Kendall reluctantly pulled away. They both smiled at each other once more, and Kendall did his best to put his concert face back on. It was easier now that he had a genuine reason to smile.
"Hey everyone, doesn't she look familiar? It's Jo Taylor! All the way from North Carolina!" Kendall shouted happily.
If it was possible the crowd erupted even more at that news, as a chant of "JENDALL! JENDALL! JENDALL!" Began to shake the stadium.
"Jo, will you be my worldwide girl?" Kendall asked her.
"Absolutely," Jo said.
After the other three guys finished introducing their chosen girls and hugs had been shared with everyone. And Jo told herself she had no problem with Kendall giving a hug to other fans, and she certainly enjoyed sharing hugs of thanks with all the other guys, the girls all sat down on the stools provided and the guys started to serenade them.
Wait, a minute, before you tell me anything how was your day
Cause I've been missing you by my side
Did I awake, out of your dreams
I'm sorry but I couldn't sleep
You calm me down
There's something bout the sound of your voice
I'm Never, never
Never as far away as it may seem, oh
Soon we'll be together
We'll pick up right where we left off
Paris, London, Tokyo
There's just one thing that I gotta do
Hello, tuck you in every night on the phone
Hello, tuck you in every night
And I can hardly take another goodbye
Baby won't be long
Hello, tuck you in every night on the phone, woah
Girl I'll be thinking about you worldwide, worldwide, worldwide
Girl I'll be thinking about you worldwide, worldwide, worldwide
Girl I'll be thinking about you
Now normally the guys had a choreographed routine for this song just like all the others, but Kendall didn't care. He wrapped his arm around Jo's shoulders just like always and she leaned her head into him, staring at him in what he knew was absolute bliss because he was feeling the exact same thing. He forgot about the thousands of fans all around them, right now Jo was the beginning and the end of his world. Every lyric felt like it was rising straight from his heart, he was only singing for her.
Jo meanwhile felt like she could melt in happiness. She listened to Worldwide in particular probably at least five times a day just because of the intense happiness/melancholy it gave her whenever she thought about Kendall. She wanted this moment to last forever, even though she knew it was impossible. She knew in her heart, Kendall was singing for her, and only her.
Yes, I may, meet a million pretty girls that know my name
But don't, you worry
Cause you have my heart….
The song ended with a massive round of applause, but Kendall and Jo were still deaf to everything except each other. Kendall leaned in close to Jo, so their foreheads were touching, his green eyes staring straight into Jo's beautiful brown eyes.
"Jo I… How long are you here? Why are you here? What's going on?"
Jo reached up to gently caress his cheek. "I only have until tomorrow morning, but I promise I'm not going anywhere tonight. I'll explain everything, but you still have to finish your concert, remember?"
"Oh right, that." Kendall said sarcastically, "But you aren't leaving anytime soon?"
"Don't worry we'll talk after the show. I promise," Jo told him. "but I better let you go on before Gustavo gets mad."
Kendall grinned at her, "Why do you have to be so perfect? I know you're right, but goodbye kiss?"
"Kendall, we're on stage in front of thousands of people."
"Your point?" Kendall asked sarcastically, and then before Jo could respond, he closed the distance between them and captured her lips with his own. Jo was surprised for a moment, before she melted into the kiss just like always, to think she had almost forgotten how only Kendall could make her feel this way. She would have held on forever if she could, but she was distracted by the screams of the crowd growing to a fever pitch.
When they broke apart, Jo noticed that she and Kendall were in a close-up and being shown on the giant screens above the stage for everyone to see clear as day.
"Oh, you are in so much trouble." She whispered to him with a smirk.
Kendall just grinned at her and then smiled confidently out to the audience. "Jo Taylor everyone!" He shouted, and more chants of "JENDALL! JENDALL! JENDALL!" were repeated by the crowd.
"OK, I'll let you go now. But come backstage immediately after the show. I'll tell Freight Train to find you again."
"I'll be there Kendall." Jo smiled at him, and then made her way off the stage and back to her seat to enjoy the rest of the concert. And enjoy it she did.
While the concert was of course just as amazing as always even before she revealed herself, she could see a definite change in Kendall after he found her, he just had so much more energy and enthusiasm than before, and he personally was now the one cranking the crowd up to eleven and making this a night no one in the audience will ever forget.
Just over an hour later when the curtain closed for the night, Freight Train was at Jo's side immediately to escort her backstage and once she made it, she was immediately pounced on by all four of the guys giving her a massive group hug, all of them sounding equally excited that she was there. When they finally let go of her to breathe, or at least all of them but Kendall did, Kendall was the first to ask questions.
"OK, so what exactly is going on? Who planned what?" Kendall asked Jo and his three best friends.
"It was us," Logan said. "Dude, we know how much you've been missing Jo even more since we've been on tour."
"And we were fairly confident that Jo was probably feeling the same way," James added.
"So we came up with a plan to give you the best surprise ever!" Carlos said excitedly. "So did you like it?"
"Like it? Guys, I love it! And I love all of you. Thank you so much for thinking of this, and also putting up with me the last few weeks. I know there have been times I haven't been the most fun guy to be around lately, so thank you, so much. You guys seriously made this the best night of the tour ever."
"It was our pleasure, Dude," Logan said.
"Dogs! Another great show! Like always thanks to me." Gustavo and Kelly walked over and interrupted them. "Now head on out front for the photo ops."
"Um, Gustavo… you know we love all our fans, but is there any way we could maybe cut the photo line down a bit tonight?" Kendall motioned to Jo beside him.
"Hmm, let me think about it, NO!" Gustavo yelled, "We follow MY plan like we ALWAYS do!"
"Or how about this?" Jo suggested diplomatically, "I join Kendall and the guys for the photo ops so that you can get even more Jendall publicity tonight. And if I do, you keep the photo line for one hour at the absolute max."
Gustavo thought that over for a moment, as well as the six glares being leveled at him from all sides. "Fine, I'll cut it down to an hour. Now get out there! All of you!" Gustavo yelled.
"It's great to see you again Jo!" Kelly called after them as the teens all ran off.
"Great thinking Jo. Gustavo usually makes us do this for at least two hours plus. I love our fans but after a full concert, this creates some pretty long nights for us." Logan sighed.
"Well, let's just say I have several reasons to get out of here as soon as possible," Jo laughed, "but I don't mind an excuse to not let Kendall out of my sight."
And so after taking tons of photos and signing tons of autographs, and Jo was just as beloved by most of the fans as the guys were, once the hour was up, Freight Train closed the doors and the teens all made their escape to the limo to head back to their hotel.
"Wait, where are you staying tonight?" Kendall asked Jo after they started driving away from the arena.
"According to Logan, the same hotel you're at, just three doors down from your room. 523."
"Really? Sweet! So let me get cleaned up quickly when we get there and then I'll meet you in your room?"
"I think that sounds like a wonderful plan Kendall." Jo agreed with a smile.
Once everyone arrived at the hotel and after taking a quick shower, Kendall was standing nervously outside of Jo's door. She was the only one he wanted to be with, but he also had no idea what to say to her now that she was here. He couldn't help his thoughts from flying in all directions as he waited with bated breath for Jo to answer.
Jo did answer with a smile and stepped back from the door, motioning for Kendall to join her inside, which he happily did so and swept her up in a tight hug.
"I missed you so much, Jo." Kendall sighed in happiness.
"I know, I've been missing you too," Jo said back.
Kendall couldn't wait a moment longer, he leaned forward, pressing his lips tenderly against Jo's, both were completely ready and were getting equally lost in each other as they found their all-too-familiar rhythm of movement together.
Kendall had no idea how long they were kissing, it could never be long enough in his opinion, but eventually, they reached a stopping point and just held each other close, continuing to just breathe in the fact that they were here, and they were together once more, even if it was only for a few more hours.
"Hey, so how long do we have?" Kendall asked.
Jo sighed softly, "I have to be at the airport by 10 am tomorrow."
"Got it, so we have about… 10 hours together." Kendall sighed when he realized it was already past midnight.
"Will you stay in here with me tonight? It ten hours is what we have, we're using every minute."
"Absolutely, or wait, where's your dad? He can't arrest me if we're in Australia, can he?"
Jo giggled, "Don't worry he's still in New Zealand, he had a work thing he couldn't get out of, but as long as I have you or Freight Train with me everywhere I go he knows I'll be ok."
"So Freight Train was in on this too?"
"Yep, I'm pretty sure everyone knew except for you." Jo laughed.
"For once, I'll accept someone else's scheme to surprise me, but only because you're so amazing." Kendall smiled back at her.
"Yeah, but…" Jo said, she stepped away from Kendall slightly, and pulled him over so they were both sitting on the edge of the bed, "I think we need to talk."
Uh oh. Kendall thought, the four words no guy ever wants to hear. "OK, talk about what?"
"About…us." Jo said slowly, "And we need to be completely honest with each other right now. Promise me, Kendall? Because we're not going to get another chance like this again."
"OK, I promise Jo. So what do you want to say?" Kendall asked, still holding Jo with one hand around her back.
"I…I don't regret doing the movie so far. I'm enjoying the work and I'm having fun with the cast, and it's going to be good for my career. Do I wish some parts of the situation were different? Absolutely but I… I don't regret saying yes. So thank you for telling me to do it, Kendall, what you did that day told me you love me more than you can ever know."
"Of course Jo, I love you just as much today as the day we said goodbye, nothing can ever change that," Kendall promised.
"I feel the same… but Kendall, are you happy?"
"Of course I am silly, I have you here with me." Kendall laughed a bit overenthusiastically.
"Kendall," Jo shot him a knowing look, "you know what I mean."
Kendall sighed, "OK, I am still having a lot of fun, back at home you know getting into everything we get into, and this tour is even better than the last one, I mean we even saved the world in England. But..." Kendall closed his eyes tightly for a moment, he didn't want to do anything to make her feel bad ever. "Whenever I'm by myself and have time to think or even every single time I have to sing Worldwide or Forget About You, or any of our other love songs, it hurts to sing them, because whenever I do, all I can think about is how I want you back in my life. But I don't regret pushing you to do the movie, because I know for a fact I would feel just as bad if I had made you stay with me, but…"
"I'm sorry Jo," Kendall felt tears watering in his eyes, and he felt himself getting choked up with emotion. "I just want you to be happy, that's what's most important to me."
"Kendall," Jo said softly, gently caressing his cheek until he glanced up at her and saw the tears gathering in her own eyes. "I want you to be happy too, that is just as important to me. I can't be happy if I know you're miserable."
"Then what can we do?" Kendall asked, "You still basically have three years on your contract."
"I know…" Jo paused. "Do our video chats and calls help?"
Kendall sighed, "They do for a little while. In the moment when I'm talking to you, it's amazing, but then once we hang up, it's like I can feel the thousands of miles separating us even more."
"It's like happiness and sadness combined but it often hurts more than it helps, but it's also addicting," Jo added.
"Yeah, that's it exactly." Kendall nodded, "So you feel the same way?"
"Yeah, I think we do… Um Kendall, as much as I don't want to say this…" Jo said slowly, as more tears threatened to fall from her eyes.
"No. Jo, please don't say it." Kendall interrupted her, "We can make this work. I'll call you every day no matter what. Gustavo can yell at me all he wants, I'll make sure to call you before bed every night no matter what time zone we're in, even if it's in the middle of a concert I'll do it."
"No Kendall, it's not that, but I don't think long distance is working for us."
"It worked for us before."
"Kendall that was only six weeks, that was different. And if trying to be in a long-distance relationship is hurting both of us more than it's helping us right now… maybe we should break up."
"Do, do you want to break up?" Kendall asked.
"No I don't want to, but I don't think we have any other options that can work."
"Surely we can think of something." Kendall held her tightly to himself in a hug. "Don't give up on us."
"I'm not, but Kendall we've both said that as things are right now, we're hurting each other more than anything else." Jo reminded him. "And please know I love you, and I only want to do what will be best for both of us."
"Us. Exactly us. We've been through so much to be together, I know we're separated right now, but we don't have to break up, do we?" Kendall asked.
"Kendall, I don't mean this like I told you when you got back from your first tour. I will never again ask you to forget about me, because I know it's impossible for me to forget about you. But until I can come back for good… Jo felt herself getting choked up, and she forced herself to swallow to clear her breath, "I think we should break up."
"If that's what it takes, I'll wait for you forever," Kendall said loyally.
"No, Kendall." Jo paused and took a deep breath in. "I mean I hope we can start over again someday, but until then, I won't hold you back. Do whatever will make you happy, and if that includes dating other girls…I won't hold you back from that either."
"Jo…how can I possibly date another girl? No girl will ever compare to you. I love you."
"And I love you too. Kendall all I want is for you to be happy. Whatever happens, happens. In three years, maybe we'll be together again, and if not, as long as we're both happy is the most important thing."
"So what does this mean then? Can we still talk sometimes?"
"Of course, we can. No matter what, we can still be friends." Jo told him, "And I'll always talk to you if I'm able when you call."
"So is this it? Are we broken up?" Kendall asked.
"Yeah, I guess we are." Jo grimaced and looked at the floor in sadness.
"Alright but, can I still stay with you until you leave?"
"I thought you'd never ask." Jo smiled slightly and leaned in closer to Kendall once more. Kendall pulled them over from the edge of the bed. They sat there, leaning against the headboard silently cuddling together until they eventually drifted off to sleep still holding the one they loved most close to their hearts.
The next morning Kendall, Jo, Freight Train, and the rest of the guys were all at the airport. Jo was giving everyone one last hug goodbye before she had to get in line for security. None of the others knew about what Kendall and Jo had decided, but they could tell something was going on with them. The three guys were already planning out the interrogation techniques they would use during their flight back to the US.
Kendall and Jo put some distance between themselves and the others, still holding each other close. "You know, I really think I'm going to hate airports forever now." Kendall joked.
"I can see that, this isn't going to be any easier the second time, walking away from you, but now…" Jo paused and wiped a tear from her face.
"I know we're uh broken up now, but still just like always if you need me for any reason. I promise I'll pick up the phone."
"I promise the exact same thing. I love you, Kendall."
"I love you too Jo. So even though we are broken up, can I have a goodbye kiss?"
"You're delusional if you thought I was going to leave without one last…kiss." Jo tried to joke this time, but she nearly broke down when she tried.
In response, Kendall reached out to caress Jo's cheek and pulled her closer to him until their lips tenderly connected. They both held on for as long as humanly possible, trying to commit every second of this last memory they may ever have of being together.
"We will see each other again. I don't know where, and I don't know when, but when we do, it will be amazing. You'll always be my Worldwide Girl Jo."
"I know, and you'll always be my Knight in shining armor." Jo smiled sadly. "Goodbye Kendall, I'll never forget you."
"I'll never forget you either Jo."
Jo stepped back, grabbed her suitcase, and then got in line to go through security, she could feel Kendall's eyes still focused on her, but she refused to turn around because if she did, she knew she wouldn't be getting on that plane.
After Jo walked off, Kendall couldn't look away, he just stood there silently until she finally passed through the security check and disappeared beyond it. It was only then his best friends surrounded him once more.
"How are you doing buddy?" James asked him. Both he and Carlos placed their arms over his shoulders.
"Not the best… but thank you, guys, seriously Yesterday was… the good still outweighed the bad, but Jo and I both are going to be doing what makes us happy. I have to believe she's right."
