Chapter 17 The Arrest

-August 9-

Emma was getting ready to go to the station and I walked into the bathroom. Emma looked at me and noticed the round belly that I'm sporting.

She smiled, "The little ones are making their presence known. You look, adorable babe."

I looked in the mirror, placed a hand on my stomach, and smiled.

I began talking to it. "Hello little ones; we are only ten weeks in and you already want everyone to know you are on your way."

Emma knelt in front of the small belly and began, "Hi little kiddos, it's Ma. I can't wait to see if you two will do like your big sister and greet your Mommy and me in our dreams."

When Emma placed a hand on my belly…I smiled. "Emma, they moved!"

"Are you sure?"

I nodded, "Yes, I read that with a second pregnancy you feel fetal movements as early as ten weeks. Darling, we are at the ten-week mark."

Emma felt the flutters again and smiled. She kissed the small bump and stood up.

After Emma left, I walked into my home office, and my cell rang. I picked it up, pressed the button on the screen, and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Madam Mayor!"

I sat down in my rolling office chair. "Clara, how are the renovations comings along?"

"Madam Mayor, it is looking amazing! I am glad you are at home though because the sawdust and the noise it's killing me!"

I chuckled and placed a hand on my tummy. "Well, I'm glad I decided to work from home. Send me some pictures on how it looks."

"Yes, ma'am. Oh! Before I forget, turn on the news."

I furrowed my eyebrows in suspicion. "Why?"

"Claire Fairchild has been arrested."

I quickly got up from my chair, walked into the living room, changed the channel from Henry's game getting a "Mom" protest, and turned it to the news channel.

"Good Morning, Storybrooke, I am Jack B. Nimble. This just in, Claire Fairchild the notorious magic stealer, Voodoo priestess, ex-friend of our lovely mayor, has been arrested! Yes, the Sheriff slapped the cuffs on her this morning for the murder of Dr. Facilier, the Shadow Man. Facilier and Fairchild were partners in trying to seek revenge on our mayor, and I heard they were lovers. Why would she murder her partner…her own lover? More details to come."

I returned to the phone call. "Clara, I should feel relieved about this but why do I feel like the worse is yet to come?"

-Sheriff's Station-

I walked into the station, down the hall, and noticed my wife calmly sitting in the chair opposite Claire with her back toward the one-way glass.

I began to question David. "How long has she been in there?"

He placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "She just went in. I'll turn on the speaker so we can hear what is going on."

Emma began her questions, "I am just going to cut to the chase. Why did you kill Facilier?"

Claire calmly replied, "He promised me that by what I did and how I planned on attacking Katherine would work, but he failed me too many times. It was time his debt was repaid to his friends from the other side."

Emma slammed her fist on the table and raised her voice, "Stop speaking in freaking riddles! What do you mean by friends from the other side?"

Claire shook her head and leaned forward to look at Emma dead in the eye, "I am speaking about the shadow creatures that only the Dark Voodoo practitioners would understand. Facilier had an old debt with them, and I offered him to them in exchange."

"In exchange for what?" Emma sarcastically spat then Claire smiled, "For their help to get dear sweet little Katherine to fall into my trap that I have set for her. You see your wife is on the other side of that glass right now leaving your son in charge of his little sister. My friends from the other side are taking care of her as we speak."

I whisked myself away back to the house to check on Katherine.

I arrived home just in time to hear Katherine screaming, "Bubby!"

I knew deep down my baby girl was in trouble, and before I could wave my hands to disappear, it already happened, and I appeared in Katherine's room to see Henry on the floor knocked out. Two big shadow creatures with glowing red eyes and long horns like a goat laughed as they held Katherine in the air by her arms. She was kicking and screaming.

She noticed me. "Mommy!"

My face hardened and summoned a golden flaming ball. "Get the hell away from my daughter and get out of our house!"

I shot the golden flaming ball at the shadow creature on the right, and it destroyed it. The other shadow creature let go of Katherine and disappeared. Katherine fell onto the bed, crying, and Henry got up.

I knelt by Henry, "Are you alright?" and I stroked his head.

"I'm fine, mom. Go to Katherine."

I got up, sat down on the bed, and took Katherine into my arms. I rocked Katherine and Emma appeared in the room. She walked up to the bed, sat down, and began to rub our daughter's back.

Emma asked, "Are you okay?"

"She's just a little shaken up. Those shadow creatures had her, and they were getting ready to take her. Henry was knocked out when I got here. Emma, what can we do? We can't let Katherine out of our sight!" I had tears pouring from my eyes.

Emma pulled me closer to her, embraced me, and kissed my temple. "We'll think of something, babe. I promise."
