My New Beginning: Part 3
Chapter 19 Madam Deputy Mayor
**Flashback to October 23rd**
I was up early to make sure everything was in place for Emma's big day. I set her outfit on the bed, took her badge, and left my letter to Emma that I read over and over again on her nightstand. It read:
My darling Emma,
You probably thought that I forgot your birthday. Think again, you and our son have the same birthday, so it is impossible for me to forget that. When you read this, I want you to put on the adorable outfit that will appear on the bed after you read this entire letter. I have a special surprise for you at my office. It was a special project that was going on while I was working from home. I can't wait to see you in a suit. ;)
All my love,
Regina
I smiled, turned around, walked over to the door, turned around and whispered, "Happy Birthday, my love."
I walked out the room quietly to finish getting everything else ready at the office. Hopefully, my calvary will be there. Twenty-one weeks pregnant and I am feeling my limits.

-Mayor's Office-
Snow was on the look out through the window and quickly turned around.
"She's here! She just parked in her spot! Places everyone!"
We all took our places and Katherine stood by me.
"Ma will wuv her pwesent, Mommy."
"I know she will love it!"
Emma opened the door.
"Surprise!"
Emma was greeted with her family, close friends, and myself; I was also wearing a black suit but I had a red V-neck shirt. I wanted us to match alright!
I addressed everyone in the room. "Thank you all for coming. Emma, come here dear."
Emma walked toward me and began questioning, "Babe, what's going on?"
"Emma, since we returned to Storybrooke, I feel as if you had been…how can I say it? I feel as if you have been demoted from Queen to Captain of the Guard let's say. So, I feel it is time for you to be my equal once again. I had this special project going on, and I talked to the Governor. The Governor gave me the answer I hoped for and now, Emma, you are now going to be known as Deputy Mayor Emma Swan-Mills."
Emma was in shock, and everyone in the room applauded. She didn't know what to say or what to do.
I smiled and took her hand. "Come see your office, Madam Deputy Mayor."
Emma smiled attempting to hold tears at bay while I led her in the same direction of my office.
Emma got confused, "Um…babe…this is your office."
I turned to Leroy. "Grumpy, will you do the honors please?"
Leroy smiled and pulled the protective sheet down revealing the new titles, Regina Swan-Mills, and Emma Swan-Mills Mayor and Queen of Storybrooke.
"Damn it," Emma said as tears streamed down her face, "I didn't want to cry."
I kissed Emma's cheek. "Happy Birthday, my love."
**December 6th Emma and I's Office**
Now in the twenty-eighth week of my pregnancy, I'm having back trouble. Pillows, massages, back rub …nothing would help.
I leaned back in my chair and rubbed my very swollen belly. "Can you little ones give Mommy a break? Her back hurts very bad."
Emma opened the door to our office, startling me, closed the door, and plopped herself on the sofa. I rolled myself over to the couch and decided to probe my pissed off wife.
"Hello, you're far away. Where are you?"
Emma grunted, "In a place where no psychotic bitch is after my family."
I began to question. "What happened?"
Emma sat up, took my hands in hers, and decided to drop the bomb. "Those shadow creatures that almost took Katherine almost two months ago; they helped Claire escape."
"I need to lie down."
Emma helped me up, and I carefully sat then lied down on the sofa.
"Babe, I have every patrol car that we have out looking for her."
My out of whack hormones began to take a toll on me; I snapped, "Your father and the members of the Royal Guard turned police officers out looking for a magical person…I feel so safe and secure!"
Emma rolled her eyes and exhaled, "Damn it, Regina, what do you want me to do? You want me to go back to being the Sheriff? They are doing the best they can. Katherine is having a blast with Tink, Nova, and Blue. Henry is off at school with my mother. We are doing the best we can."
I began to cry. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. My back hurts so bad that it feels like it would snap at any moment. No, I don't want you to go back to being the Sheriff. I love having you here with me. We are a team again like we were in the Enchanted Forest."
Emma smiled then kissed my forehead. "Yes, we are, and we always will be."
The office phone buzzed. "Madam Deputy Mayor…"
Emma called out, "Yes?"
"The Sheriff is on line one, and he said it's an emergency."
Emma and I exchanged some worried looks at each other.
Emma replied without breaking eye contact, "Send the call to me."
The phone rang, and Emma walked to her desk. She pressed the button for conference, and she began talking.
"Hey, dad, what's the update?"
"Paul found Claire. She is in the forest at this old mansion."
Emma and I exchanged a thoughtful look then I realized something. "I know where it is. You know in the forest where that clearing is to where you can overlook the entire town?"
Emma nodded, "Yeah…"
"The mansion is about a ten-minute hike north from there," I gave my directions, and Emma returned to the phone call. "Dad, meet me at the clearing overlooking the town. I'll need you before I go to Claire alone."
I closed my eyes as tears began to form threatening to escape.
"Are you sure you want to go without a backup?"
Emma concluded, "Dad, no offense to you but Claire will be able to wipe the floor with you. I want to keep my family safe."
When Emma said 'I want to keep my family safe,' she turned and looked at me and of course, I was in tears at that point.
"Dad, let me go, I need to be with Regina right now. I'll see you in about fifteen minutes. Call me if anything changes."
She picked up and hung up the phone then went to sit on the sofa getting me to lay my head on her lap.
Emma ran her fingers in my hair. "Regina, listen to me. I'm going to help my dad and the rest of the officers get Claire. They need magical reinforcement."
"If I weren't a beached whale, I would go help you." I sobbed then Emma chuckled, "You are not a beached whale. You are my beautiful very pregnant wife with twins on the way. You know I would love for us to take Claire down together, but I want two healthy babies born on time and not early."
I groaned, "I have to take it easy. I can't get overly stressed. This sucks!"
Emma placed her hand on my swollen belly. She felt the twins move to her touch and she smiled.
"I know, but think of it this way. In exactly two months, they will be here. We still need to name them."
I smiled. "I've been thinking for our little girl's name…right now we need hope and faith, so I'm torn between those two names. For our little boy, I was thinking about the name Michael."
"I like that," Emma said then looked at the clock, "Shit, I told dad fifteen minutes, and it has been twenty. I'll call you when I can."
I nodded, and Emma kissed my cheek. She got up and whisked herself away in a cloud of gold smoke.
"Be careful, Emma."
