Bose didn't spend the night that day. He chose to let whatever that was bothering Mika go. By letting it go, it meant that he didn't pressure her to talk about it anymore and he didn't try to crack her out of it.
This resulted in even more hostility between them. Soon Bose started to snap back at Mika. They debated back and forth about which parenting books were right, and what temperature was best for the room when the baby was sleeping. Mika thought Bose should be more careful when handling Isadora, and Bose thought Mika needed to stop being so uptight.
Not to mention the baby was not falling in line with her sleep schedule more often and woke them up constantly in the middle of the night. Mika and Bose were sleep deprived, stressed, and overworked.
One night, Isadora wouldn't stop crying no matter what they did, she was changed, fed, and as far they knew, healthy. Mika looked frantically around the room for anything that would get her to quiet down as Bose held her. He struggled to soothe her against his bare chest. Isadora was big on skin-to-skin contact with her parents and whenever she was fussy it always calmed her down no matter what, not this time though.
Her crying became so loud and insufferable that Miles came in from the other room covering his ears, "Well shit, that's louder than Mika,". Mika hurled a pillow his way and glared, "Don't curse in front of her!". Isadora continued to whale and Miles flinched, "Sorry I'm losing my hearing, along with anyone within a 50-mile radius,". Mile teased.
Mika slammed the door in his face, she was close to tears. It emotionally and nearly physically hurt to hear her baby sobbing in such a gruesome way. Bose grabbed a stuffed animal from the bay window to cheer her up. Her delicate soft skin began to turn red as she wept even more. "Here give her to me," Mika reached her arms out. "We tried that, remember, just keep looking I'm sure we'll find something to calm her down," Bose moved Isadora to his shoulder and she started hiccuping. "I've literally shown her everything in this room, including a half-ass cartoon about hippos," Mika voiced, "She obviously cries more when you're holding her,". Bose rolled his eyes and handed the baby over to Mika.

It took a long time, but Isadora had finally cried herself to sleep. It broke their hearts that it came to that. The silence had never been more silent as Mika covers Adora with a soft blanket. Bose sat at the bay window with his head down and anxiously tapping his thumbs over each other with his clasp hands. He was exhausted but he still had to go to work in the morning if he wanted to save up to move out soon. He thought about calling in sick, his head wasn't in the right mind space.
Mika took a seat on the edge of the bed across from Bose with dry tears on her cheek. They were tired and irritated. They were gonna snap.
"I'm telling you, it's the environment, she's been enclosed in this room since she was born, and she needs to develop elsewhere, the nursery at my place has a lot of room, and it's already has everything she needs I think she'd be happie-" Bose was saying when Mika cut him off, "I said no, I'm here so she needs to be, it's important to keep up with her nursing, besides I'll miss her too much,". Along with postpartum, Mika had separation anxiety when Adora was gone for too long.
Bose huffed, "Well this isn't just all about you, don't you think I miss her all the time? I like having her stay with me. You can still nurse her whenever you'd like and her nursey has plenty of resources-"
"Bose", Mika interjected again.
Bose kept speaking as Mika spoke over him telling him she wouldn't hear it.
"My mom would be more than happy to help look after her",
" Stop",
"And you said it yourself your parents aren't involved,",
"I don't need them to be," Mika insisted.
" All I'm saying is we can use an extra hand!" Bose exclaimed.
Bose vexed her, she was capable of raising her own child without any complication and for him to think otherwise was ignorant to her. "Oh, I get it. You think I'm a bad mom," Mika professed. Bose didn't mean it like that of course and it was staggering that she ever assume that he would say such a thing to her, "No, that's not it- god Mika I just want us to be on the same page for once,".
"If you would just do what I say we would be," Mika clenched her jaw.
"I'm trying Mika, I'm trying so hard but you-you're just not working with me, you're not her only parent, I should get a say in how we do things as well," Bose shot up from his seat, and Mika felt challenged so she did too, but it didn't make much of a difference, she was still ridiculously shorter than him.
"Well try harder. I get it okay, this isn't some school project where we get graded on a letter scale, this is a real baby and anything we do can fuck her up later in life. I just know her better than you, I'm the one with her all day, I'm always the last face she sees before bed and when she wakes up," Mika claimed.
Bose found it distasteful how she made it sound like he was an absent father, he was in Adora's life just as much as her, even if it was a close second. He was still here. "Don't do that, Don't ever say that to me. I'm involved, I care, you two are the only thing I care about," Bose affirmed.
They stood quiet and Mika turned her head to Adora's crib, she felt his eyes burning holes in her cheek. "Maybe that's the problem," Mika cleared her throat and then turned back to Bose. "What are you talking about?" Bose queried. Mika knew this was coming, and she thinks he knew too. This just wasn't working out and they had too much on their plate to fix it.
"We have a lot to work through, separately and together," Her eyes were icy and Bose didn't speak. "I shouldn't be on your mind, you shouldn't be on my mind unless it's for Isadora's sake. Bose, she should be our main focus, and whatever is going on between us is getting in the way of that, and I won't allow it anymore," Mika admitted.
Bose gulped, his eyes starting to sting "See you're doing it again, things are getting hard so you're shutting me out,". "Are you even listening to me?" Mika yelled. "Oh I hear your double meaning just fine," He replied in the same tone. They dismissed the fact their daughter was sleeping less than a couple of feet away and could wake up from the sudden shouts.
"I don't wanna be with you anymore!" Mika bellowed then gripped her scalp tightly as she started to weep. If she got too upset she'd have another panic attack, then he'd know how much this was crushing her and that would kill her.
"You don't wanna be with me anymore," Bose repeated with a softer tone, and Mika bit her lip to stop a desperate sob. She wanted him to go away and leave her alone.
Her words kicked in and Bose was enraged. He's been by her side through thick and thin and she was running away from him. Bose realized that he didn't deserve this, he did everything for her, for their family and now she didn't want to be with him.
Bose clenched his jaw, then ran his hand over his face shaking his head. That was actually the smartest idea she's had in a long time. He let out a dark chuckle that sends chills down her spine.
"Good. I'm done with your shit, call me when you decide to stop bitching," He snarled. Mika's lower lip started to quiver, 'i can never think of you as a bitch' he once told her. Bose reached for his shirt on the stand and then swiftly pulled it over his head.
He gave acknowledgment to Isadora in her sleeping crib then opened the window that caused a cool breeze, and climbed out without looking back.
When he was gone Mika blinked back as many tears as she could but it was no use. She rubbed her arms to provide herself some comfort but it only made her feel worse. She was alone now, for real this time. She dropped to the floor and hugged her knees to her chest. When she heard the start of the car engine she couldn't hold back anymore and let the waterworks fall. A migraine was starting and her throat was swelling. She muffled her broken sobs with her shaky hand. Her heart had been ripped out from her back, dislocated her lungs on the way because she found it hard to consume air.
All the guilt and hopelessness ate at her at once and she only blamed herself.
