Once again, Bose offered to drop Mika off at her program like he did every morning, and once again she rejected him. But this time he wouldn't take no for an answer, so he called her an Uber instead.
Bose could tell she was exhausted because all of last night she got up every second to check on Adora. Bose was sure she was timing herself and when she went back to bed for the fifth time that night he reached for her phone and turned off the timer she had set so she could get some sleep before they both had to be up.
Bose called his mom and informed her about Adora's well-being so she got the nursery equipped with everything the baby might need. "Oh my poor sweet girl, come to Gam gam," Ceila cooed as she took Adora from Bose's arm when he walked in. "Well hello to you too," Bose murmured as he locked the door and placed Adora's baby bag on the couch.
"Where's Willard?" Bose asked. "He's in his office watching genuine moments," Ceila led them to the kitchen, her eyes still on her granddaughter, "Has she eaten?".
"Yeah before Mika left she made her some mashed fruits and anything else she might want to eat in the day, it's packed in the bag," Bose answered. Ceila tilted her head confused, "She left? Where did she go? Is she coming back here soon?". She was thinking the same thing as Bose when Mika told him she wouldn't be with them today. It seemed very unlike Mika to leave Adora in her current state, her fever wasn't anything serious but this was the first time the baby was sick. Ceila expected Mika to coddle her to no end until she was feeling better.
"Yeah, she started school again remember? She said she really couldn't miss this week because of some test and it's very important to her, but she'll be back with Isadora as soon as she gets off, everything is fine," Bose explained as he took a seat at the counter and Isadora sneezed. Ceila acknowledged the tone he spoke with, "Okay, why but do you sound like you're trying to convince yourself more than me,".
Bose sighed and ran his finger through his hair. His expression was blank with a hint of dejection. The truth was, he didn't understand. He tried to tell himself that everything was fine and there was nothing to worry about but something about Mika wasn't adding up.
"Is it bad that I feel like she's lying to me?" Bose admitted.
"How come?" Celia responded.
"Do you ever just get that feeling when you know someone isn't telling you the whole story," Bose trailed off going into the fridge and getting Adora's bottle with milk inside.
"What school program goes on until like midnight, heck one in the morning even, she won't even tell me the name of it so I can't even look into it, and she gets defensive when I wanna drop her off or pick her up, the whole thing is just, off," Bose spoke.
Ceila nodded in understanding and turned her head to smile as Adora played with her blonde hair, she tickled her and a sly laugh came from Adora. She turned her attention back to Bose who was getting the bottle warmer, " Well, i think you guys should just talk about it, why do you think she would be fibbing to you about something like this anyways?". Bose stayed silent as he fixed the bottle into the warmer making sure it would come out at the right temperature.
He didn't know why Mika wouldn't be telling the truth. But there was one Idea clogging his head as to what she might actually be doing. Bose needed to get it off his chest and maybe get a second opinion.
There was nothing Bose couldn't ever tell his mom, so he confided in her. "Well, I'm not sure, but maybe she's seeing someone,".
What Bose wasn't expecting was for her to laugh, but she did. "What? What's so funny," he croaked.
"Bo-bo you can't be serious, she's crazy about you," Ceila replied. Mika was in love with Bose, Bose was in love with her, and there was no doubt that their heart would only ever beat for each other.
"I mean think about it, Mom, it makes sense. Also if she was crazy about me still, she wouldn't have broken up with me. She's seeing some other guy, she has to be, " Bose speculated, trying to ignore the aching in his throat. The thought of Mika being romantically involved with someone else was nauseating. Bose didn't ever see himself recovering from something like that.
Ceila couldn't take him seriously and she rolled her eyes with a smile on her face. He was creating a false narrative because truth be told Bose was an overthinker. "Bose, come on," Ceila bargained, and Bose stood his ground. "Do you really think Mika is out playing hooky right now while her daughter, the absolute love of her life, is sick?" Celia asked, raising an eyebrow.
Bose thought about it, then he looked at Isadora who was peering at him with such doll, innocent eyes, just like Mika's. Well when she puts it that way, "No, of course not, she loves Isadora too much to do that,". Ceila sighed, "And she also loves you too much to do that," she reached her hand out and put it over his to provide assurance.
Bose gave her a small smile full of gratitude, she was right, "Thanks, Mom,". "Anytime sweetheart," she smiled back.
Bose removed the bottle from the warmer and came to get Isadora from his mom, "I need to clear my head, I'm gonna take her upstairs and we're gonna watch a movie or something, nothing too active because the fevers make her little body hurt,". Bose groaned annoyed," This fever is so lucky it's not something I can physically get my hands on and make suffer for bothering my little girl,".
Ceila laughed, bid them farewell, and asked Bose to take a bowl of popcorn she had prepared upstairs to Willard.
Bose put Adora's bag on his shoulder and made his way to Willard's office with the popcorn, complimenting Adora on how precious she was to him while she babbled. Bose knocked twice before he was told to come in.
Willard sat on the couch in his office, with his legs on the table laughing out loud at the TV. "I got your popcorn from my mom," Bose set the bowl down. "Took you long enough," Willard scolded and Bose playfully rolled his eyes. Since Bose started working with Willard, he and the vice mayor naturally started to tolerate each other more. Bose always thought Willards disliked him, but it was really just that he didn't know him.
Willard put his feet on the ground and his joyous expression turned to Isadora, "Now how are feeling today little lady?". Bose gave Isadora to Willard and she kicked her legs in joy. More thanks to their growing relationship was because of Isadora. When she was born, Bose saw a different side of him, a more nurturing side.
Willard started talking to him about the upcoming elections and revealed that this time he would be running for mayor instead of vice mayor. Willard gave him some details and informed him that they'll be booked for the next few months so he had to prepare himself to balance everything. The whole time he was playing games with Adora.
After hearing Willard out, Bose went into Adora's nursery and got things settled. It always made him feel some type of way that the room didn't look like it was lived in. Before Adora was born he use to imagine her being in here all the time, growing up within those four walls. But she barely spent any real time in there because anytime it was his turn with her they either went out, he only had her for a few hours, or they'd spend the day in his room because she had become more accustomed to it.
Once Bose got her stuff together, they went into his room and Bose changed out of his night clothes from last night. He left Adora on the bed, went into his mini fridge for some light snacks for them, then picked out a movie. In the background he could hear Adora battling another fit of coughs, he remembered to get her serum.
After Bose situated everything, he climbed into his bed and played a small game of tickle monster with Adora before moving her to his lap and attacking her with small kisses of affection. He played the movie and leaned back, enjoying another sweet father-daughter moment with his Isadora.
)
Halfway through the movie, Isadora was drifting to sleep, her tiny head resting on his chest and her cheek softly pushed up against him as he caresses her head of brown curls. Her hair color had slowly been turning into his which he hadn't expected. Her nose was shaping into a miniature one of his as well and Bose swore she was becoming more and more beautiful every day. It was funny actually because all the things he hated about his appearance would seem flawless when he caught a glimpse of it on Adora's small face.
Bose heard his phone buzz and saw a message from Mika telling him that she, unfortunately, wouldn't be by his place as early as she said she'd be. Bose looked at the message with anticipation, he bit his lip and tiled his back in a sigh. It was then that he knew that he had to figure out what was happening with Mika, even if she wouldn't like it.
