*Author Note: Hey, Sogg1Dog here. I never really intended to publish any stories on any of the accounts that I use to read fanfiction. The only thing that I have is a set of reviews on Wattpad that I have yet to get back to writing anything for. This is something that I am only doing because I had this story floating around in my head (along with other stories) and I wanted to get back into the groove of writing research papers with lots of pages. I figured that writing a fanfic would help with that. I don't know when I would take time to write and update any stories, or if I will even complete this story; because I am currently doing a job search, looking for something that suites me. Therefore, here is what I will do. I will commit to the 3 chapter rule; I will write three chapters for this story and look at the reviews. If you readers want more, then I will continue to writing this story. If you don't then I will put the whole thing up for adoption let someone else work on it. I'll leave the fate of this story up to you guys.
Out of Nowhere
CH.1
"No, no, no…!", Mirabel thought as she watched the chaos that was unraveling.
She had woken up today with the intent to discover the looming threat towards her family. To save the magic and, by extension, prove that she was just as special as everyone else and make her abuela proud. She did not account for the possibility that the problem with the magic was her. That she could be what was destroying the magic. She also did not account for her prima Dolores to overhear her rambling about this to her father (despite the fact that her cousin had the gift of super hearing).
At the start of her sister's proposal dinner, Mirabel did her best to stare down her prima in a very sad attempt at preventing her from spilling the beans, through intimidation. This did not work seeing as the moment she took her eyes off of Dolores she had already told her brother Camilo, who told their father, who told their mother; her Tia Pepa.
What made it worse was the fact that cracks were starting to appear. She knew that this night had to be perfect for the proposal; and wished that Mariano would hurry up. She wanted her sister's big, dumb hunk of a boyfriend to propose already so that she didn't have to worry about tonight's dinner possibly going up in flames. That's why she suggested that Mariano propose immediately after Abuela told Luisa to bring in the piano to have music play, not knowing that Luisa was having problems with her gift. She unfortunately ended up looking crazy when she noticed the cracks were forming out in the open and dived to cover them up.
Aside from the weird looks she was getting from the Guzmans, and the not so happy stares from her sister and Abuela, she thought that she was doing rather well. That is when she noticed Antonio's animals. They were stealing the vision shards from her father's pocket! Mirabel had only one thought; "Get the pieces!", and was ready to pounce to retrieve the pieces before Abuela or anyone else could see the vision; but she was stopped.
In fact, everyone stopped what they were doing. Mariano paused his proposal, Luisa stopped crying and trying to drag the piano into the dining room, and even the animals stopped themselves from strangely piecing the vision together. Instead everyone turned their heads to stare in the direction of the front door as they heard knocking.
"Someone's at the front door." Dolores belatedly said, as the event had inexplicably knocked her out of her spiraling thoughts.
As the knocking happened again, everyone began to make their way towards the sound, curious as to who was here at such a late hour and why. Julieta wondered if someone was injured; but then dropped the idea, since Dolores would have informed her immediately. Abuela wondered who was rude enough to interrupt tonights dinner. The whole Encanto knew of Mariano and Isabella's proposal dinner; and hoped that whoever was knocking on the door had a very good reason to do so. Mirabel thought differently to everyone else in the room. She saw an opportunity and willingly lagged behind everyone else, so as not to be seen, before she took her moment. She quickly made her move and gathered the pieces of Bruno's vision and hid them from view, making sure that she had them carefully and securely hidden inside the top of the piano before joining everyone else. If they were inside the piano, then all she had to do was wait for it to be removed from the dinning room and find an opportunity to get them back. She only hoped that Dolores didn't hear her as she placed them inside and closed it.
Meanwhile, Alma reached the front door with the Guzmans and the rest of the Madirgals standing behind her. The door was opened to find a young man, looking only a little older than Mirabel, standing behind it with what they could assume to be a serious and determined face. With light brown skin and short curly hair, he wore a clean and pristine sage green dress shirt, an independence blue vest, and light beige dress pants. In his hands was a bouquet of flowers. In the bouquet were apple blossoms, red chrysanthemums, coriander, and morning glory's. It was a not the best arrangement of flowers but to those who knew what each type of flower represented they could infer that the young man was less concerned about how they looked and more about what they said.
They could also guess why he was at their door at this time of night. A late night love confession, likely meant for Isabella. The act a last ditch effort to prevent her engagement to Mariano Guzman, and win her over with a grand proclamation of love in front of her family. Mirabel was already done with the spectacle. She was thankful for the distraction, but didn't feel it was necessary to be there and listen to another boy gush about,"Señorita Princessa Perfecta." Alma was both displeased and giddy at this turn of events. Sure she disliked that Mariano's proposal was interrupted, but something like this only showed how perfect Isabella was and how all of the young men wanted to be with her. Knowing that Isabella was so desired, to the point of interfering with their dinner, was sure to push Mariano to quickly propose to her nieta and bring the Guzmans and the Madrigals together. Therefore, she would let this play out, even if it would be sad to see the young man leave in disappointment.
The young man scanned the faces in front of him, landing on the faces of Julieta and Augustin.
"Señor Augustin; Señora Julieta," the boy started, "my name is Emilio Velasquez, and I would like to ask for your daughters hand in marriage."
Julieta and Augustin looked at each other, holding a silent conversation wihtin the fews seconds they stared at each other. It seems the conversation was a debate on who would respond because Augustin was the one to come forward and reply.
"Thank you Emilio, for coming here and asking for our permission; but Isabella is already in a relationship with Mariano and I do not think that she would be willing to leave it for someone four years younger than her and that most of us barely know.", he said. Augustin's reply was true for the Madrigals. Emilio Velasquez was the name of a 17-year old boy they had seen around town and had few interactions with. He did not talk much, seemed to have an expression of apathy constantly on his face, and would often be seen either staring at things or people, or sleeping in the throughout the day outside of the usual siesta. A lot of people have the opinion that he is either lazy or just plain weird.
Mirabel only knew him as Juanchos older brother. The family resemblance was very clear between him and the little coffee addict. The only difference being the facial expressions and attitudes between the two. While Juancho had expressions for days and was somewhat impatient and loud; his older brother only seemed to have a few expressions and spoke very little. When asked a question it wouldn't be strange to hear him reply with short, blunt answers or with hums and nods. The times that he did respond with more words; he seemed to sound either bored with whatever was happening or annoyed with the person talking to him. This was compounded by his general lack of facial expressions; making him not only sound but look uncaring or upset.
Even with the light letdown, Emilio's expression did not change and surprised everyone, simply saying; "I wasn't talking about Isabella."
Those words caught everyone's attention as they immediately turned their heads to look at Luisa, wanting to hear her response. She in turn, stared back with a look of shock on her face. She had no idea what to say or even how to react. She was so used to people talking about wanting to be with her older sister that she rarely ever considered being in a relationship with someone. Usually when people wanted her attention, it was for some manual labor. Someone always wanted something moved, or carried, or held in place; like rerouting the river or fixing a leaning house, or the donkeys that continue to repeatedly escape Señor Pérez's barn. She never even had time for a relationship, so to have someone show up and ask to marry her was so out of place.
"I-I-I uhhh… wha?", She was quickly losing her nerve as she began stuttering, trying to come up with a response to this sudden proposal.
Mirabel was laughing internally at the situation. She expected Isabella to be the topic of discussion, but it turned out to be Luisa that Emilio was looking for. She felt happy that her sister was gaining some attention from the opposite sex, but a little disturbed that the guy interested in her immediately wanted marriage. There was no getting to know each other or falling in love first; he just went straight to trying to put a ring on it.
Alma quickly took control of the situation, attempting to put a pin in the situation; "While it is very appreciated that you feel this way towards Luisa, I believe I speak for all of us when I say that it is late and it may be best to pick this conversation up either tomorrow or the day after. We were in the middle of a very important dinner and it may be best for us to discuss this amongst ourselves."
She wanted to stop this immediately. She did not like how Emilio instantly asked for her nietas hand in marriage. He sounded like he may only want to marry Luisa for access to the Madrigal's magic or influence in the community; which would not be far-fetched. Situations similar to this happened in the past, when the Encanto first formed. There were men who tried to get close to Alma, in hopes of attaining power, but she rejected all of their propositions. For Alma, her one and only love died to save her family and bring about the miracle, and she would not let anyone bring harm to it. She thought that Emilio was just like those men, until she heard what he said next.
"I wasn't asking for Luisa's hand."
*Authors Note: This is my first story and I don't really intend to go back to my chapters and fix any grammatical errors, but any critiques on how my writing is are welcome. Just don't be d-bags about it.
