Chapter 17: Worth the Risks

"I don't know why I'm so nervous babe."
Jamie squeezed Eddie's hand and then kissed it.
"It's ok to be nervous sweetheart. I'm nervous too. I want to have a baby just as much as you do. But we have to wait for Doctor Carollson to give us the green light."
Eddie nodded and tried to get comfortable on the exam table.
"What if she finds something? What if there's something wrong with me and I can't have a baby…"
Jamie shook his head and kissed her forehead.
"Hey. Eddie look at me. Let's not jump to any conclusions, ok? She still has to do the exam and run some blood tests."
Eddie sighed and lay back against the exam table.
"Ok. We've got this. Whatever the end results are."
Doctor Carollson smiled and looked at Jamie and Eddie nodding her head.
"Ok. Everything looks fine with your blood work. No abnormalities. You've got the green light from me to be intimate. I'm going to work closely with your Nephrologist though. You'll have to have your anti-rejection medications adjusted when you do get pregnant. You've come a very long way in the last year Eddie. You are part of the 1% group that could potentially be high risk. But considering your age we'll have to consider all factors that come our way."
Eddie gave Doctor Carollson a smile and sat up.
"So, everything's ok?"
Doctor Carollson nodded her head and showed her the ultrasound she'd just taken.
"You are perfectly healthy Eddie."
Eddie nodded again as she watched Jamie shake hands with Doctor Carollson.
"Thank-you doctor."
Doctor Carollson left the room and Jamie and Eddie were left alone. Eddie pulled Jamie close and whispered in his left ear.
"How about we have a candlelit dinner when we get home."
Jamie perked up and whispered back.
"Mmm Hmm. Sounds good to me. What are our plans afterwards?"
Eddie gave a smirk and nuzzled Jamie's neck.
"You really want to ruin the surprise?"
Jamie shook his head and pulled her in for a kiss.
"I think I can figure out what your surprise is babe."
It was morning and Jamie looked over at Eddie who was curled up in a ball next to him, fast asleep. She woke as soon as he placed soft kisses down her neck.
"Mmm. Jamie. Thank-you for last night. It's the first time I've felt like me in a long time. I think we both really needed last night."
Jamie kept smirking all the while trailing kisses down her neck to her shoulder.
"I could stay in bed like this forever. Let's be lazy and stay in today. Besides, its pouring outside."
Eddie giggled and pulled Jamie towards her.
"It's pouring outside. That's perfect. We can find stuff to do."
Jamie shook his head and continued his trail of kisses.
"I wouldn't trade anything right now."
Several hours later, Eddie lie on her back and had her head turned towards Jamie.
"I've missed this. Us. I feel like things are finally starting to fall into place. Wouldn't it be ironic if we had a set of twins? A boy and a girl?"
Jamie's face paled for a moment and then he sat up a little, propping himself up on his left elbow.
"Twins? A boy and a girl? I think it'll be a challenge, but one we can handle."
Placing a kiss to her forehead, Jamie smiled. Eddie was finally getting back to being herself. Maybe things were really looking up for them.
"I think we can handle the challenge of twins babe. We've already decided on names for both of them. Patrick Jameson and Isabel Rene."
Jamie let out a snort and tried to stifle a laugh.
"What? No Scarlet or Hudson?"
Eddie made a face at the last name that tumbled out of Jamie's mouth.
"Hudson? That would be a no from me. Not a fan of that name. Brooklyn either. Any children we have after them, are not going to bear my first name. Do you hear me, Jamie Reagan?"
Jamie playfully put his hands up and placed a couple of warm kisses to her left shoulder.
"Wouldn't dream of it baby. You are going to make a wonderful and beautiful mother Eddie. I know you will."
Eddie snuggled into Jamie's arms as he pulled her close to him.
"Whatever happens next, we have each other."
Jamie nodded and answered.
"I will always have your back babe."
Eddie responded back as she placed kisses down his chest.
"Till the end babe."
