"I'll go first to show you how it's done." I drew my firsthand of 5 cards and looked them over, smiling at the selection. "I summon [Elemental Hero Blazeman] in attack mode." A vortex of fire was created, causing the students to cover their faces from the heat.
From inside the vortex a man appeared wearing predominantly red, white and black armor, fire blazing on top of his head as if it were hair. There were rocket like thrusters attached to poles on his back, dispersing more heat into the room.
[Elemental Hero Blazeman, Lvl: 4 Atk: 1200 Def: 1800]
"Who the hell is that?" Some of the other students were confused when another person appeared from the vortex, thinking that it was a person with a heat-based quirk.
"Don't worry, my quirk allows me and whoever I'm dueling to summon monsters like Blazeman here. They won't hurt you as long as you don't get in their way." I reassured the rest of the class and they calmed down. Some of them were still a bit apprehensive about this guy being here though, guess I'll just have to show that he's not a threat to them.
"Whenever [Elemental Hero Blazeman] is summoned, I am able to add the spell card [Polymerization] to my hand." A card was shot out from my deck slot and I place it into my hand. "Now I'll play the card [Polymerization] to fuse [Elemental Hero Blazeman] on the field with [Elemental Hero Ocean] in my hand."
The blue and orange vortex that appeared in the entrance exam was formed above my head, creating a torrent of winds. The other students had to cover their eyes from the wind that was swirling around the room to make sure they could still see the event. One of the cards in my hand glowed as a beam of light from the card hit the ground in front of me. From the light stood [Elemental Hero Ocean] with his signature trident in hand.
The two heroes jumped into the air, defying gravity for a time while they made their way over top the vortex. Then they dived into the vortex, causing chilling air to emerge from the vortex as the new monster was formed.
"From the controlled blaze to the deepest depths of the ocean, nothing can escape your freezing blasts. Reveal and freeze them all! I Fusion Summon [Elemental Hero Absolute Zero]!" From within the vortex a white figure shot into the sky. As it landed it released an explosion of ice spikes around itself, chilling the already cooled air to freezing temperatures. The students off to the side could all see their breaths with how cold it had become, even Vlad King was shaking a small bit.
[Elemental Hero Absolute Zero, Lvl: 8 Atk: 2500 Def: 2000]
"What the hell? How did it suddenly become winter?" Awase was rubbing his arms in an attempt to stay warm, but he continued shivering along with the rest of our classmates.
"That guy must have some sort of cold quirk if he's able to freeze the air like this." Kendo theorized, though I didn't bother correcting them that my monsters didn't have any quirks. Them thinking they do is just going to make it easier for them to accept.
"Well Tetsutetsu, how was that? Do you think you can make a good impression? I end my turn." I relax my posture a bit and allow my opponent to take his turn, much to his excitement.
"Dude, that monster is so manly! I wonder what sort of guys I'll be able to summon." He hoped on the spot and inspected his cards now that it was his turn. "Alright, it's my turn. Draw!" He added his new card to his hand and looked them all over. I wasn't going to rush him considering this would be his first duel. "Sorry, just needed to figure out what things meant. I'll start by summoning [Superheavy Samurai Magnet]."
From the ground a robotic being made of mostly blue metal with a red magnet on its back rose up and took its place in front of Tetsutetsu. It had yellow hands without fingers with a plus and minus adorning them, and shoulder guards with green edging around them. If it weren't for the fact that this was his monster Tetsu would've easily freaked out by something bursting from the ground in front of him.
[Superheavy Samurai Magnet, Lvl: 4 Atk: 900 Def: 1900]
"When Magnet is summoned to the field I can summon another level 4 or lower monster to the field then switch Magnet to defense mode. I summon the tuner monster [Superheavy Samurai Trumpeter]!" The robot then aimed its arms at the ground next to it and an invisible magnetic force pulled something from the ground next to it. Now a smaller robot, only just above the knee of Magnet in height, with a large trumpet in hand was staring down me and my Absolute Zero.
[Superheavy Samurai Trumpeter, Lvl: 2 Atk: 300 Def: 600]
"Not bad, you're pretty quick to pick up how to duel." Even though I know that most of this is just instinctual knowledge from my quirk, it doesn't mean that he would be able to know everything there is to know or how to make combos. I just hope that he can keep his train rolling.
"Thanks, but I'm not done. Don't ask how I know this, but now with my Lvl 2 Trumpeter Tuner monster and my Lvl 4 Magnet, I'm able to Synchro summon an even stronger monster." Trumpeter jumped up and transformed into rings of green energy, followed by Magnet jumping through the rings and turning into balls of light, finally, a beam of light pierced the balls of light before growing thicker. "Rise your war cry. Divine ogre show yourself. On this battlefield of raging ice and storm! Synchro Summon. Level 6 [Superheavy Samurai Ogre Shutendoji]!"
From the beam of light came forth a red robotic behemoth wielding a large, spiked club. It slammed the club spike first into the ground before it sat down with its legs crossed and a blue aura enveloping the monster. His exhaust ports spewed warm air, combating the cold field that Absolute Zero had brought forth with him and causing some of the students to move closer to him, only to be stopped at a safe distance by Vlad.
[Superheavy Samurai Ogre Shutendoji, Lvl: 6 Atk: 500 Def: 2500]
I grinned at seeing the monster, aware of the gimmick that the Superheavy Samurai's have. They are able to attack while in defence mode using their defence points, something that is both an incredible offensive and defensive strategy. But right now that doesn't matter, both of our monsters have the same power so they'll both self-destruct with Absolute Zero's effect or they'll just not battle.
"Bet you think that you can escape this turn without me attacking, well you're wrong! I activate the effect of [Superheavy Samurai Soulbuster Gauntlet] to equip itself onto Shutendoji and increase its defence points by 400." Tetsu played his card and a purple robotic hand appeared and flew straight onto Shutendoji's hand that wasn't wielding his massive club. With the boost he seemed to grow a bit bigger along with the aura around him.
"I bet you expected me to be a pushover just because I had never played this game before, but I ain't gonna just let you have an easy victory against me. I attack your Absolute Zero with my Shutendoji, Superheavy Piercing Crush!"
Both of our monsters roared at one another, one louder than the other, before charging at the other. Shutendoji slammed down with his club, but Absolute Zero dodged the strike, leaping behind the behemoth to attack his back. Unfortunately, before the Hero could unleash his attack he was struck with another of Shutendoji's strikes while he was in the air. This caused the monster to cry in pain as he burst into yellow particles, though there was a white ball left behind in his place.
(Clay: 3600) (Tetsutetsu: 4000)
"Alright! Tetsu's got the first damage in!" Kaibara shouted out from excitement at seeing one of our monsters destroyed. His excitement however stopped when the chill in the air increased, causing everyone to shiver once again. "Wait, I thought that guy was destroyed."
"That he was Kaibara!" All of my classmates turned to look at me for an explanation, seeing the smirk on my face as I chuckled to myself. "Although it's unfortunate, having Absolute Zero destroyed isn't the end of the world. At least not for me. Whenever Absolute Zero is destroyed he destroys all of my opponents monsters with him! New Ice Age!"
The chill continued to grow colder, there was now snow in the air from how cold it was, but the one most affected by the cold was Shutendoji. His joints began to be covered in ice, one that quickly spread to the rest of his body before he was cocooned in ice. Before anyone could even think of doing anything, the ice cracked and the monster within was destroyed into a million of those yellow particles.
"Interesting, it seems that some of these creatures have conditions that must be fulfilled before their true potential can be released. Perhaps there will be more instances where a condition is met when the opponent accomplishes something that may seem beneficial at the time but lead them to fall into a trap." Reiko Yanagi spoke, causing some of the others to look at her in confusion. I understood what she was saying, but before I could explain someone else did.
"She said that some of the creatures might have requirements before they can use their effects and there might be more times when players will fall into traps because of this." Kodai summarized what Yanagi said and the others nodded their head understanding what had happened.
"Damnit, that was a seriously awesome move you pulled. I end my turn." Tetsu was smiling even though his monster was also destroyed in the aftermath of my monsters effect. He just had that sort of attitude and I was fine with that. "Don't think this means you beat me, I still have plenty of Life Points left."
"Oh, but that's where you're wrong. This will be the last turn of the duel, I draw!" I placed the card into my hand and grabbed another to play. "I activate the spell card [Monster reborn], allowing me to bring back a monster from either of our graveyards. I choose [Superheavy Samurai Shutendoji]!" The ground was ripped open in front of me and the same red monster that was originally against me was now on my side. Tetsutetsu was wide eyes and his mouth was agape at the sight of his monster betraying him, though that wasn't really the case.
"You should close your mouth, a fly might go down your throat." I chuckled at his reaction of him closing his mouth quickly using his hand. "Next, I summon [Elemental Hero Solid Soldier]." A man wearing silver and purpley/brown armor appeared in front of me, next to Shutendoji. He had large sharp gauntlets that ended in a sharp blue crystal and extended down past his elbow. The blue crystals appeared elsewhere on his costume, his knees, calves and boots housing the others.
[Elemental Hero Solid Soldier, Lvl: 4 Atk 1300 Def: 1100]
"When Solid Soldier is summoned to the field I'm allowed to summon another Lvl 4 or lower 'Hero' monster to the field from my hand and I choose to summon [Elemental Hero Bubbleman]!" Another man wearing a blue suit of armor appeared on the opposite side of Shutendoji. The outfit of this hero consisted of a white cape, two tanks of water strapped on his back with pipes feeding into his weapon mounted on his arm. His helmet also covered his eyes, rising above his head in two spikes like a certain bat themed hero.
[Elemental Hero Bubbleman, Lvl: 4 Atk: 800 Def: 1200]
"You're wide open Tetsutetsu, and I'm gonna show you why that is exactly what you want not to happen. Bubbleman, attack Tetsu directly!" Bubbleman made an affirmative noise before running towards Tetsu who was preparing himself for the worst. Luckily for him, when Bubbleman reached him and raised his weapon, it was only bubbles that burst forth.
(Clay: 3600) (Tetsutetsu: 3200)
"Wait, that's it? I though he was meant to be a hero?" He was honestly confused as to why the attack of my monster was so weak, but I just shrugged my shoulder. Bubbleman has always been less of a battle oriented hero anyway, opting to play more support.
"Well, this one should be a bit more to your liking then. Solid Soldier, attack Tetsu directly as well!" The soldier nodded his head before running at Tetsu. This time, Tetsu crossed his arms in defence as Solid Soldier appeared before him, jumping before bring his spiked gauntlet down on the boy and causing him to be pushed backwards.
(Clay: 3600) (Tetsutetsu: 1900)
"Holy damn, I felt that. These guys don't play around do they?" Tetsu rubbed his arm where Solid Soldier hit him, a red mark forming from the strike. I nervously chuckled as I spoke up a bit.
"Actually, that was him holding back." This caused some gasps from the other students, though I elected to ignore them for the time being. "If he had been serious, even if you were in your steel form your skin would've been pierced and there would've been a hole in your body. He held back because in a duel our monsters only have to technically touch you in a direct attack to count. We just really like theactrics." This explanation caused Tetsu to sweat after hearing he could've had a hole in his body while Solid Soldier rubbed his head while also bowing in a display of apology.
"Damn, this quirk of yours is super strong! It even seems like your Solid Soldier is a real person." Now it was my turn to sweat at his words. He technically wasn't wrong, all of the monsters were spirits that just used my cards as catalysts to interact with the real world. My quirk is actually just borrowing some of their powers, the rest of my quirk is the result of fusing my body with a different spirit.
"Well, thanks for your compliment, but that won't stop me from winning this duel. Shutendoji, attack Tetsu and win me this duel. I would recommend going steel if you don't want to get hurt too badly!" I gave him my advice and hoped for the best. Shutendoji roared, causing the other students to cover their ears, before he stood up and charged at Tetsu who had activated his quirk. Shutendoji swung his club at breakneck speeds before it hit Tetsu, sending him flying back through the wall of the gym and creating a human shaped hole in the wall. Shutendoji roared once again in victory after attacking Tetsu while I silently prayed there weren't any broken bones.
(Clay: 3600) (Tetsutetsu: 0)
(Clay wins)
The duel ended and the monsters burst into yellow particles, followed by my duel disk retracting into my arm. I quickly rushed out of the gym to check up on Tetsutetsu followed by some of my classmates. He was still in his steel form as he was lying on the floor, staring up at the sky with his arms to the side as if he was about to make a snow angel. He didn't respond to any of our presence so I walked up to him and waved in his face.
"Hey, you okay big guy?" This snapped him out of his trance as he sat up with the same lost look on his face. I really hoped that I didn't cause any lasting damage. His quirk deactivated and he looked me in the eyes.
"That… Was…" I waited for him to finish, hoping that he wasn't too upset about the loss. "AWESOME! I've never experienced anything like that, it was like I was facing off against a villain with a strength quirk and a spike quirk at the same time!" That certainly wasn't what I was expecting, him being excited about being beaten. "And those guys of yours, you called them 'Elemental Hero's it was like I was facing off against pro's! We have to do this again sometime!"
I held my hand out to stand him up, and he took it with a smile on his face. I could tell that he was being completely honest with what he was saying, feeling excited at the idea of duelling me again.
"Sure, but I think I know something that can help you practice. My quirk lets me make cards that only I can use, but I need to follow some rules of the game if I use it to summon monsters. So I decided to make some cards based on the ones I use and make a game to practice. I can give you a deck based on the one you just used to help you practice if you want?" I offered him a deck so he could practice against me without me needing to use my quirk to make the duel happen.
"Sweet, maybe you could get some of the others to try out the game, after seeing that duel I'm sure they'd be pumped to fight you with your quirk as well." He happily accepted and I made a mental note to bring a bunch of my decks tomorrow to make sure everyone has a deck if they want one.
Vlad King walked up to us, a smile on his face as he saw us. "Well done you two, that was quite impressive. I know you just got done with your battle, but I've decided that we should do the quirk apprehension test right now to utilize the energy you stoked in class. Also, it will save you time in your heroics class, allowing you to get more training in instead of doing this test."
We both nodded our heads at Vlad, happy that we could ignite some energy in the class. Then, the entire class returned to the locker rooms in order to get changed into our P.E. clothes.
