Pee Wee Scouts

Dil wasn't able to focus on the story his g'an'pa was telling. His focus was on the garden. Where anyone else would have just seen little green shoots rising from the ground in Dil's mind he saw the tops of little Dil's, sleeping in the ground but slowly growing bigger. And when they were as big as he was his mommy and daddy would clean them off and everyone would pick their new favorite Dil.

And considering how things were going? He didn't think even Yucky would pick him.

So when Tommy mentioned they were going to be Pee Wee Scouts Dil began to nod and reach out for his brother, hoping he understand that he also wanted to be a Pee Wee Scout… whatever that was.

"Let's go inside our boo-tiful tent!" Lil said, the babies cheering as they went under the sheet that they'd made into a tent. But Dil, dragged in by Tommy, pulled on the sheet and caused it to fall on them all, causing the other babies to begin complaining.

"Dil's not a very good scout, Tommy!" Phil declared and Dil pressed his head against his shoulders, cringing at how mad he was. Well… Phil wasn't picking him. Though admittedly Dil wasn't that bothered as Phil was kinda stinky.

"He's just learning!" Tommy said. "He'll get it."

Only… Dil couldn't help but squeal when he saw the doggie, which caused him to run away. And then, even though he had been sleepy, he began to play with the blankie the others were using, yanking it away.

"That's enough, Tommy!" Lil declared. "Dil can't be a scouts no more! He keeps messings things up."

Dil whimpered at that and Tommy sighed. "Dil… this is your last chance. You have to be a good scout or we'll have ta stop playing."

The little baby looked at him brother, sucking back his tears and nodding. He'd try his hardest!

Because if he didn't…

"Huh?" Dil said as he suddenly found himself being dragged away from the tent. His eyes went wide… was he being kicked out? He didn't want to leave! He could go nappy! That was something he actually knew how to do! "TOMMY!"

"Dil!" Tommy cried out, hurrying out of the tent only to giggle when Spike, who was dragging Dil on his blankie, stopped and licked his face. "Good job Dil, you found the wild aminal!"

"Yay!" Dil cheered… only for his mommy to choose that moment to gather him up, not wanting to risk him getting hurt now that she saw he'd gotten out of his little baby bouncer. He whimpered the entire way back into the house, reaching out for his brother…

…and trembling when he saw Tommy head back towards the tent… and the garden full of Dils.
