Avatar: Chapter 5 - Part 1 - Jet

The chapter opens, showing a luscious forest. Momo, chasing bugs through the trees. In his pursuit he lands on the ground to see a neatly stacked pile of lychee nuts. When he runs toward it, Momo is pulled into the air by a cage trap, joining two other caged animals. Momo hangs by the cage, focusing in on the rest of Team Avatar camping.

When Naruto had woken up this morning, Katara hugged him, Sokka acting bashful but was secretly glad to see his friend. Aang excitedly bounced on his butt, using airbending to levitate himself.

Naruto asked questions like, "Why am I holding a scroll?", Or, "Why am I holding a waterbending scroll?!", To which the group would reply with, "We stole it from pirates who stole it from a water bender.

"High risk trading" is more like it." He replied. Ironically that's how the pirates phrased.

"You guys are still asses for not letting me in on the fun." Naruto pouted, crossing his arms while sitting on Appa's head. He nudged the bison's with his foot. "I can forgive not waking me up for the pirates, but the Great Divide? You suck for it. Right Appa?" Naruto asked. It seemed Naruto slept through two adventures.

Grunt

"Yeah, we know, we're sorry. You looked so peaceful in your sleep. We didn't want to disturb you." Katara said, Naruto's eyes widened for a bit.

'I was sleeping?' He decided it was best not to question her. Aang looked around the woods, looking for his lemur friend.

"Where's Momo?" The bald boy asked, looking around the forest. Naruto looked up, seeing Katara, and Sokka, the siblings sitting next to each other with bored faces, and Aang standing with his back facing the trio.

Momo screeches and the gang looks around.

Naruto spots Momo hanging from a tree branch. "Up there!" Naruto called out, notifying the group of the hanging lemur. Aang spots the three animals in their cage traps hanging by rope on tree limbs.

"Hang on, Momo!" The Avatar yelled. Aang uses his airbending to fly to the top of the tree, jumping from trunk-to-trunk to get higher. He finds the traps' mechanisms, undoes them, and carefully lowers Momo to the ground where Naruto, Katara and Sokka are waiting.

The siblings open the trap together and the lemur runs out with one of the lychee nuts in his mouth. Katara and Sokka look on as Momo gets on his hind legs and eats it as though nothing has happened.

Sokka grunts in frustration and facepalms. When Aang lands, he looks up to see the other two animals seemingly crying out to him for help.

"All right, you too." He said cheerily, he jumped back up to the tree branches.

"This is gonna take forever." Naruto and Sokka groaned, showing that they were both similar people. While Naruto throws his shield to cut one of the ropes, Sokka uses his boomerang to simply cut the second animal free. Naruto and Sokka's weapons return to their person.

Inching his way upside-down to the traps on the tree branch. They fall before he can reach them. "That works I guess." Aang said, falling back down to the ground by the tree.

The hog monkeys run and climb the trees. Aang slides back down from the tree, dirt flying from the ground as he lands. Everyone gathers around two of the traps and Sokka kneels down to examine them.

"These are Fire Nation traps." Sokka examined. Naruto looked at the metal before nodding at Sokka's analysis. "You can tell from the metalwork. We'd better pack up camp and get moving." Sokka said. They gather their things and begin to pack them onto Appa's saddle.

"Uh-uh! No flying this time." Sokka said. Aang looked confused.

"What? Why can't we fly?" Aang asked, though he was curious how people get around on foot.

Sokka takes the sleeping bag from Aang's hands while Katara halts from giving Aang another. "Think about it: Somehow Prince-Zuko and the Fire Nation keep finding us. It's because they spot Appa, he's just too noticeable." Sokka said, they all looked at Appa's big body inquisitively.

"What? Appa's not too noticeable!" Katara defended the bison.

The Water Tribe warrior points dramatically at Appa; condescendingly. "He's a gigantic fluffy monster with an arrow on his head! It's kinda hard to miss him!" He said, the bison yawns and Aang patted the animals head comfortably. Also sitting on his head.

"Sokka's just jealous 'cause he doesn't have an arrow." Aang reassured the bison. Sokka took the chance to speak.

"I know you all wanna fly, but my instincts tell me we should play it safe this time and walk." Sokka said confidently.

Katara leans forward at her brother and smiles. "Who made you the boss?" She asked condescendingly.

Sokka points his finger at his chest; to show Katara who was in charge, or who was being mentioned. "I'm not the boss, I'm the leader." Sokka's announcement made Naruto and Katara laugh.

"You're the leader? But your voice still cracks!" Naruto said, midway through Sokka's response, his voice cracked and deepened.

"I'm the oldest, and I'm a warrior! So, I'm the leader!" Sokka said.

"Bro, I'm all of those things. Matter-a-fact, I'm the oldest, I am a warrior, And I should be the leader!" Naruto said, it was Katara's turn to laugh.

"What? What's so funny? You wanna fight, huh?" He asked, quieting down the only girl of the group.

"If anyone's the leader, it's Aang. I mean, he is the Avatar." She said. Naruto sighed.

"Geez, stop simping for Baldy, Katara. He's just a kid, and you're 14." Naruto said, Katara in turn blushed heavily. While Katara was 14, Aang was 12 with Sokka being two years Katara's senior and Sokka being one year Naruto's junior. Sokka grinned, and Aang stayed oblivious.

"And besides, he's just a goofy kid. I mean, look at him!" Naruto said, pulling the group's attention away from Katara's red face to an upside-down Aang, who was hanging from Appa's horn.

"He's right." Aang said, sticking his feet out. Katara scoffed and rubbed her temples.

"Why do boys always think someone has to be the leader? I bet you guys wouldn't be so bossy if you kissed a girl." Katara said, while this got to Sokka, Naruto grinned.

"I actually have two girlfriends." Naruto said, he quickly but slowly dodged Katara's strike to the face before encasing her in earth. Becoming defensive. "What's your problem, woman?" He asked, Katara gave him a lashing.

"Women aren't toys for you to just pick and choose! We have feelings! But boys never look into them, we're just mindless tools to men!" Katara screamed, Naruto shut her up with a slap.

Aang and Sokka's faces displayed a look of rage. Aang sent a gust of wind to him to which Naruto blocked it with his shield before pinning him to the wall with his spear. Sokka tried intervening but was quickly taken care of. He then came up close to her, his green eyes piercing into her own blue hues.

A/N: I don't support striking women, but people in the Avatar universe punch, kick, and verbally abuse women. So I'm sure a simple slap is fine; compared to what Ozai did in his youth towards Ursa *cough*-*cough*. In this case, it's just for dramatic effect.

"One, I love my women, two, I don't objectify them in any way. Three, I love them with all my heart, and four, they said it themselves, they were fine with me sharing my love with others." Naruto said, he brushed a tear away from Katara's eyes who had never heard such a compassionate speech about their relationship.

"I- I'm sorry." Katara apologized, Naruto ruffled her hair, strands of hair falling over her forehead. He released her from her bindings and got off Sokka and retracted his spear.

"Don't say sorry, just don't do it again." Naruto said. There was an awkward silence for a bit.

"Now... weren't we talking about kissing girls?" Katara grinned after regaining her courage. Sokka blushed.

He sputtered. "I've kissed a girl, you just haven't met her." He told his sister.

"Who? Gran-Gran? I've met Gran-Gran." Katara replied mischievously.

Sokka snapped back at her. "No! Besides Gran-Gran." Naruto decided to jump in.

"You mean Ymir? Were you guys making out in my grandmothers shrine?" Naruto asked angrily, Sokka slowly backed up against a tree.

"Hey, no, it's not like that. We fell and one thing led to another!" Sokka sputtered. Naruto then laughed.

"Don't sweat it." Naruto said, but Sokka remembered something.

"This shrine is usually where Naruto and Suki made out before he had a house." Ymir's statement caused this Sokka to grin lecherously.

"Didn't you and Suki make out in that shrine?" Sokka asked, Naruto coughed. Seeing as everyone was looking for an answer.

"Hey in my defense, she came onto me. I tried to push away but... Ohh oh~ those lips of hers are so good~" Naruto grinned with a blush, a small trickle of blood leaked from his nose at the naughty things she did to him with those lips, and the perverted things she did with her hands. "And besides, I didn't have a house!"

Sokka became serious again. "Look, my instincts tell me we have a better chance of slipping through on foot, and a leader has to trust his instincts." Sokka said.

"I mean, I think I should be the leader after that awesome display of skill! But, ok. Whatever keeps Princess-Sokka happy." Naruto grinned, Aang and Katara laughed while Sokka scowled.

"Let's just go!" Sokka nearly screamed, his voice cracking in the process.

"Okay, we'll try it your way, oh wise leader." Katara sarcastically said, doing a mock bow to emphasise her mockery. Aang steps over, now wearing a backpack. Momo is sitting on the top.

"Who knows? Walking might be fun." Aang said.

Oh boy... was he wrong…

Between trees the group trudges along, with Sokka in front, followed by Aang and Momo, Katara, and Appa; Naruto was taking a trip on Appa. Time passed and Aang had to admit.

"Walking stinks! How do people go anywhere without a flying bison?" Aang asked, Naruto growled.

"Maybe because they're all dead!" He growled out, causing Aang to sheepishly rub the back of his head.

"Still, walking sucks! Can't we just fly and fight Zuko?" Aang groaned, slumping his shoulders.

"Well I don't know, Aang. Why don't you ask Sokka's instincts? They seem to know everything." Katara said sarcastically.

Sokka "Ha ha, very funny." Sokka replied equally sarcastically.

"I'm tired of carrying this pack." Aang growled, ready to rip this bag off his back and throw it away. Naruto sat lecherously on Appa's head, smirking all the while Aang, Sokka, and Katara decided to walk with their backpacks.

'Dummies.' Naruto said in his mind. They could've at least thought of giving the bags to Appa.

"You know who you should ask to carry it for a while? Sokka's instincts." She said, her sarcasm in full swing. Sokka's eyes turn to her in irritation.

"That's a great idea. Hey, Sokka's instincts, would you mind-" Aang was beginning to ask when Sokka stopped him abruptly, stopping the walk.

"Okay, okay, I get it! Look, guys, I'm tired too. But the important thing is that we're safe from the-" He walks through a bush and sees something in front of him. "Fire ... Nation." He finished.

Sokka sees a Fire Nation campsite with a lot of soldiers; most of them are seated or crouched near the fire with bowls in hand and a couple of them sit close to the tents, which have the Fire Nation emblem on the door flap.

One of these soldiers has a patch over his left eye. They all notice the group and get up.

"Run!" The Water Tribe warrior squealed. They turn to run but a firebender blocks them off by setting the bushes behind them on fire. We're cut off!" Sokka stated the obvious.

"Ghee, thanks for stating the obvious." Naruto growled, blocking a blast of fire with an earthwall and tossed his shield, the weapon rebounding off a couple of the enemies before returning to his arm. Katara then saw that Sokka's shirt was on fire.

"Sokka, your shirt!" Sokka screams in panic, flailing his arm about; Katara clears the fire on Sokka's shirt with waterbending. Sokka turned to face the group.

"I've got a plan!" He whispered.

"If you let us pass, we promise not to hurt you." Sokka said, Naruto smacked his forehead, a red mark remaining in its wake.

"That's your idea of a plan?! Are you kidding me!?" Naruto shouted. "Well guess what, my plan is to charge and whoop these guys' ass-" Katara snapped her fingers.

"Naruto! Language." Katara said.

"Butts..." The blonde went to apprehend the soldiers when Sokka stopped him again.

"Like I said. If you let us pass, we promise not to hurt you." He bluffed. Katara called him out on his bluff.

"What're you doing?" Katara loudly whispered. Sokka changed his serious exterior to a nervous one.

"Bluffing." He replied. The leader with an eyepatch laughed.

"You promise not to hurt us?" He asked mockingly. A whooshing sound is heard and the soldier is knocked out by an unseen tranquilizer dart to his back. The soldier fell with a groan.

"Nice work, Sokka! How'd you do that?" Aang asked. Sokka shrugged.

"Uhh... instincts?" He replied. Katara points up in the trees.

"Look!" She shouted. In a tall tree, a young man with brunette hair, unsheathes two twin hook swords. He jumps and takes down two soldiers on landing. He runs forward and hooks his twin swords underneath two more soldiers legs and throws them over him.

"Down you go." The young man said, grinning. Katara and Aang look at him shocked, while Naruto and Sokka wore confused looks. Another soldier charges at him, but he is defeated swiftly.

"They're in the trees!" A Fire Nation soldier screamed, getting the attention of the other soldiers.

A young boy lands on top of the soldier and turns his helmet around to blind him, before riding him around while laughing. Another boy launches arrows at the soldiers while more boys come out of the trees. Aang and Katara are shown fighting the soldiers.

Sokka and Naruto felt left out so they decided to work together. "Sokka! Up!" Naruto called out. The warrior saw Naruto hold his shield up, Sokka ran to the blonde, jumped onto the shield and Naruto launched Sokka into the air.

Unsheathing his Water Tribal club, he sent an overhead strike to the awaiting soldier. But to his surprise, the brunette boy stepped in and took him out first. Landing in front of the stranger.

"Hey, he was mine!" Sokka complained. The boy smirked.

"Gotta be quicker next time." He replied before he took out more soldiers.

Sokka looks dismayed and a huge boy fall out of the trees and easily took down two soldiers as the leader of the group skilfully took down one more, causing this soldier's spear to hit another soldier, who was going to battle Sokka, in the head, making that soldier also fall down.

"Man!" Sokka angrily groaned.

The brunette blocked a strike from one of the soldiers, he disarmed him before kicking his head, knocking him out. Another soldier readied himself to take out the boy, but the brunette stepped on the spear and kneed his chin, knocking him out.

He stumbled his way to Katara. Standing over her, his taller frame eclipsing hers. "Hey." He said, his teeth moving the wheat in his mouth around.

"Hi."

They looked around the camp.

"You just took out a whole army almost single-handed." Aang said, amazed. Naruto and Sokka scoffed.

"Army?! Pfft! There were only like twenty guys. I could've done that, single handedly." Naruto said, folding his arms.

"My name is Jet, and these are my Freedom Fighters." Jet said. He motioned to his squad. A stubby looking kid who threw a soldier into the tree. A boy wearing a hat that used the bow-and-arrow. A tom-boy that apparently liked knives, a small kid that wore an oversized helmet and a big man-child. "Sneers, Longshot, Smellerbee, The Duke, and Pipsqueak." Jet introduced the team.

"Ha ha! Pipsqueak, that's a funny name." Aang said, laughing. The Duke sniffs his nose, seeing no reaction from the small boy, Aang upwards to the bigger male.

The big boy loomed over Aang in a threatening manner; in a low, growling tone of voice he asked. "You think my name is funny?" Pipsqueak asked.

Aang looks taken aback for a second before replying in an upbeat tone.

"It's hilarious!" Aang said. Pipsqueak, still loomed forward with a frown on his face.

He suddenly starts laughing. After a bit, Aang and The Duke followed suit. Pipsqueak pats the Avatar on the back in a friendly manner, though the hit was hard enough to knock Aang flat on the ground. The Duke stops laughing and looks down at Aang sprawled on the ground before his feet, face flat in the dirt, though when Aang raises his head and continues laughing, so does The Duke.

The scene fades to the Fire Nation camp, showing the Freedom Fighters raiding the empty camp. Sokka feels a little uncomfortable as he see Smellerbee carrying weapons with her

Katara approached Jet underneath a tree. "Umm, thanks for saving us, Jet. We're lucky you were there." Katara said. But in the back of her mind, she knew they had it handled.

"I should be thanking you. We were waiting to ambush those soldiers all morning. We just needed the right distraction, and then you guys stumbled in." Jet said, making Katara blush at the not so subtle compliment.

"We were relying on instincts." Katara said, eyeing Sokka.

"You'll get yourself killed doing that." Jet said. Sokka looked at them disdainfully as The Duke and Pipsqueak through the barrels among the Fire Nation camp. Naruto was listening in on their conversation when a large green bottle of alcohol caught his eye.

"Ohhh..." Naruto said, grabbing the large bottle and reading the inscriptions. "It says, 'Saké', hmmm, sounds weird." Naruto said, popping the bottle open and taking a swig. He immediately fell in love with the drink. "But boy-o is it delicious!" He said before pocketing a few of the smaller bottles, stashing them away in his bag.

The Duke touches a jelly-like substance on his finger and sniffs it. "Hey Jet, these barrels are filled with blasting jelly!" The Duke said.

"That's a great score." Jet replied, a hidden smirk on his face thinking of what havoc he could cause with those barrels. Pipsqueak then came into view holding wooden boxes.

"And these boxes are filled with jelly candy!" Pipsqueak said cheerfully.

"Also good. Let's not get those mixed up." Jet said. The Duke, Sneers and Pipsqueak began loading a parking crate full of supplies.

"We'll take the stuff back to the hideout." Aang asked, looking actually excited.

"You wanna see it?" Jet asked. Katara eagerly replied.

"Yes! We want to see it." She said.

"Sweet." Jet led the group back through the forest when Naruto saw a little kid with black hair, tan skin like himself and amber eyes, he was currently hiding behind a tree.

"Whose he?" Naruto asked, Jet turned to face Naruto's direction. The Freedom Fighter angrily growled before leading the team away while sending Pipsqueak and Smellerbee a silent message.

"I don't know." Jet said, leading them away from the battlefield. Naruto caught the look Jet gave the little boy, he kept his eye on the boy.

'Jet is shifty.' Naruto thought, following the teen in suit. They arrived at the clearing.

"We're here." Jet said, Sokka looked around.

"Where? There's nothing here." Sokka said, Jet gave Sokka a rope that led into the trees.

"Hold this."

He skeptically takes the rope. "Why? What's this do?" He asked. He screams as he is pulled up into the branches.

"Aang?" Jet offers Aang another rope.

"I'll get up my own way." Aang leapt into the trees with airbending. Jet offers Naruto a rope, to which the blonde takes it after giving Jet a dirty look. Instead of the rope pulling him, Naruto pulled it instead, he used his incredible strength to destroy the mechanism to the elevating rope.

"Bummer. Looks like I'll get up the ol' fashion way." He said before much to the others surprise, jumps into the trees with no bending.

"Grab hold of me, Katara." Jet said. Katara blushes as she takes his hand as she is pulled close towards him and they rise up through the tree together in a romantic setting. They come to a landing on a wooden platform in the trees. Once up there, Aang is seen zip lining through the trees.

Aang and Momo pass them.

"Nice place you got!" Aang shouted with Momo on his back. Katara looked around for her blonde friend but didn't see him; she assumed he would've gone to explore the jungle.

Naruto was nowhere to be seen, he slipped out of sight once he entered the jungle with his giant jump.

"It's beautiful." Katara said, talking about the forest. Jet smiled.

"It's beautiful, and the Fire Nation can't find us." He said. The Duke lands near them, smirking.

"They'd love to find you, wouldn't they Jet?" The Duke asked, smirking and Jet smirked in reply.

"It's not gonna happen, The Duke." He said. Katara, the Freedom Fighters and Sokka followed Jet across a bridge.

"Why does the Fire Nation want to find you?" Katara asked curiously.

"I guess you could say I've been causing them a little trouble. See, they took over a nearby Earth Kingdom town a few years back." The Freedom Fighter leader explained.

"We've been ambushin' their troops, cutting off their supply lines, and doing anything we can to mess with 'em." Sneers grinned. Sokka is now seen comically hopping around trying to get past Sneers, but failing to do so.

"One day, we'll drive the Fire Nation out of here for good and free that town." Jet said, grinning. Katara blushed at how noble he was.

"Wow, Jet. That's so brave of you." She said, her face red. Sokka popped his head in to give his two sense.

"Yeah, nothing's braver than living up in a treehouse." Sokka said,

"Don't pay any attention to my brother." Katara said, embarrassed of Sokka's attitude. "No problem. He probably had a rough day." Jet said, easing Katara but putting Sokka on edge. "So, you all live here?" Katara asked confusedly. Sokka, who is being ignored, comically sinks back behind them.

"That's right. Longshot over there?" Jet points to Longshot and The Duke who were walking without making a sound. "His town got burned down by the Fire Nation. And we found The Duke trying to steal our food. I don't think he ever really had a home." Jet said.

"What about you?" Katara asked. Katara and Jet come to a halt as the rest pass the bridge while the rest kept moving. "The Fire Nation killed my parents. I was only eight years old. That day changed me forever." Jet explained, lowering his head.

"Sokka and I lost our mother to the Fire Nation." Katara went to grab her necklace but remembered it was gone. Jet laid a hand on her shoulder, sympathetically.

"I'm so sorry, Katara." Jet said.

Naruto

He was jumping from tree-branch to tree-branch, looking for Pipsqueak.

Naruto heard grunts, and the sound of flesh smashing against flesh. He turned to the noise but didn't see anything.

Landing in the middle of the forest, he takes his handle off and stomps on the ground, the force from his foot hitting the earth creating enough vibrations to feel out his surrounding area. Looking to the left at a large oak tree.

Running behind it, he saw the kick from earlier; getting beaten to a bloody pulp by Pipsqueak.

Flashback - A few minutes ago

Getting the silent message from Jet, he and Smellerbee nodded to one another. Waiting for everyone to leave the area, he and Smellerbee turned around to face the boy; but saw that he was no longer there.

"Find him!" Smellerbee ordered, running up a tree using her knives to gain the height ground. Pipsqueak laid low to the ground.

Smellerbee jumped from tree-branch to tree-branch. She looked behind each tree she hopped to, but found nothing. Pipsqueak came near a river bank, seeing the kid from earlier hiding in a trench.

Cupping his giant hands over his mouth, he sent a whistle to Smellerbee. To which the girl quickly came, rolling to spread out the ground shock.

"Hey! What are you doing in our forest, you scum!?" Smellerbee asked, pulling him out of the trenches by his hair. The boy cried in pain.

"Please, I just want to join the Freedom Fighters! I wanna be like you guys!" The boy said smiling, tears leaking out of his eyes. Smellerbee punched his face a few times, dazing him before Pipsqueak grabbed hold of him and threw him towards a tree in the forest.

The kid tried running but Smellerbee stepped on his back, halting him from running away. "You remember this right? We did this last week because you blew our cover!" Smellerbee turned him over, punching him in the jaw and moved out of the way so Pipsqueak could kick him.

"Yeah! We said if you stay out of our forest, you won't get any more beatings!" Pipsqueak pinched the kid's nose before throwing him away, into another tree.

Flashback end

Pipsqueak cocked his hand back to punch him once more, and Smellerbee went to kick him in the gut. But Naruto intervened, catching Smellerbee's foot and Pipsqueak's fist.

"I never really liked seeing people get bullied…" Naruto kicked Pipsqueak away before punching Smellerbee. "Unless it's me doin' the bullying." Naruto said. Turning around to face the kid he mentally winced at the damage to his face. "Stay here, ok kid." Naruto said. The kid nodded and Naruto walked away, seeing Pipsqueak and Smellerbee's body not there anymore. Unsheathing his weapons he circled himself, looking at his surroundings.

"HA!"

He turned to the left to face an airborne Smellerbee, clutching a rope with a knife in her hand. Naruto was ready to strike her down with his shield but was tackled out of the way by Pipsqueak.

"You're not a threat!" Pipsqueak smirked, Naruto kicked him in the crotch area, forcing the boy to grab them and kneel over. The blonde headbutted the bigger boy and kicked him off.

The female Freedom Fighter threw her knife at him, the blonde rolled out of the way; her knife embedding in the tree. She rushed him with ferocious fury, he dodged each of her strikes, he lifted his leg to evade a low kick to which the blonde stabbed his spear in the ground and spun around on it, kicking Smellerbee away easily. He brought his shield up, blocking a punch from Pipsqueak and cut his cheek with his sharp weapon. Pipsqueak backed away while Naruto performed an airborne axe kick to Pipsqueak's shoulders; dislocating it.

"AHHH!" Pipsqueak roared. Smellerbee dropped from the tree's above him, but Naruto blocked her double knee strike with his shield, and executed a perfect crescent kick Pipsqueak. Smellerbee wrapped one of Pipsqueak's arms around her and began carrying him away.

"This isn't over!" She shouted before leaving. Naruto sheathed his weapons before giving her back a smirk.

"No… no it isn't." He said before turning to face the boy; but the kid was gone from where he previously was. "Oh crap!" He growled. He saw a blood trail and grinned.

"I always liked treasure hunts." Naruto grinned and followed the trail of blood.

Some time later

A cloud of cawing birds is disturbed as Appa raises his head with a roar. In the hideout, ropes with lanterns hang between branches. Sentries keep watch on several upper platforms while the group sits at a banquet table. While the group eats, Jet stands on the table.

"Today, we struck another blow against the Fire Nation swine!" Jet sneered. Everyone cheers. Katara and Aang smile while Sokka cops an attitude and a scowling face. "I got a special joy from the look on one soldier's face, when The Duke dropped down on his helmet and rode him like a wild hog monkey." Jet laughed. The Duke, without his helmet, climbs up the table. He marches on the table with his arms in the air; people cheering the kid on.

"Now, the Fire Nation thinks they don't have to worry about a couple of kids hiding in the trees." He prepares to take a drink from his wooden cup. "Maybe they're right." A very loud and long boo is heard; with an angry face, Jet replied. "Or maybe ... they're dead wrong." A loud and long cheer is heard. Once Jet sat down, Katara latched herself onto Jet's arm.

"Hey, Jet, nice speech." Katara said. Jet rested his arm over his knee.

"Thanks. By the way, I was really impressed with you and Aang. That was some great bending I saw out there today." Jet said.

"Well, he's great. He's the Avatar." She pauses to blush. "I could use some more training." She finished.

"Avatar, huh? Very nice." He grinned, looking down while readjusting his wheat.

"Thanks, Jet." Aang grinned.

"So I might know a way that you and Aang can help in our struggle." Jet said.

Sokka got to his feet, dusting himself off. "Unfortunately, we have to leave tonight." Sokka starts walking away. He stopped by Jet's last statement.

"Sokka, you're kidding me! I needed you on an important mission tomorrow." Jet said, peaking the boy's interests. Sokka turns around.

"Sokka What mission?" Sokka asked, but before Jet answered, Pipsqueak and Smellerbee came into the scene with one's arm draped over the others.

"Pipsqueak, Smellerbee!" Jet yelled, running to the bigger fighter's body. He glared at Smellerbee. "Who did this?"

Smellerbee pointed at Team Avatar. "Their friend! The blonde one. He ambushed us when we were walking back with boxes. He left before we could pay him back!" Smellerbee lied; they had thought of the plan on their way there.

Jet looked at the people in question.

"Why would he do this?" Jet asked Katara.

"I- I don't know." Katara stuttered, someone's voice cut in.

"The real question is why you're sending a giant and a tree-cat to beat up a kid half their size." Naruto said; he had been there for a few hours.

"He was Fire Nation! He can't be trusted!" Jet stated. Smellerbee then gave him a very sharp looking knife. "And look at that! He wanted to attack us, most likely me!" Jet jerked the knife, the knife embedding in the tree near the blonde. Everyone booed Naruto, Aang and Katara crossed their arms over their chest, angry expressions.

The blonde walked past the younger teen, bumping his shoulder to his purposefully. Whispering.

"I know what you're doing. Katara and Baldy may buy this whole half-ass act. But I know the truth - I'm onto you, bastard." Naruto whispered. He sent a dirty look to Smellerbee who countered his glare with her own.

Katara stopped him. "Why Naruto?"

"He's already caught you in his web of lies… he's a manipulating punk." He passed her too, bumping his shoulder against hers as well. He stopped in front of Sokka, giving him a nod, the message clear to Sokka.

'Keep an eye on him… he ain't who he seems.'

They both understood that Jet wasn't a good person. He was shifty, and he started acting nice to Aang and Katara once he saw them bending. He even grinned when he found out Aang was the Avatar, but Sokka saw that it was a smirk. Sokka guessed he would see the true Jet on this mission he was to join Jet on.
