Avatar: Chapter 5 - Part 2 - Jet
Previously
"The real question is why you're sending a giant and a tree-cat to beat up a kid half their size." Naruto said; he had been there for a few hours.
"He was Fire Nation! He can't be trusted!" Jet stated. Smellerbee then gave him a very sharp looking knife. "And look at that! He wanted to attack us, most likely me!" Jet jerked the knife, the knife embedding in the tree near the blonde. Everyone booed Naruto, Aang and Katara crossed their arms over their chest, angry expressions.
The blonde walked past the younger teen, bumping his shoulder to his purposefully. Whispering.
"I know what you're doing. Katara and Baldy may buy this whole half-ass act. But I know the truth - I'm onto you, bastard." Naruto whispered. He sent a dirty look to Smellerbee who countered his glare with her own.
Katara stopped him. "Why Naruto?"
"He's already caught you in his web of lies… he's a manipulating punk." He passed her too, bumping his shoulder against hers as well. He stopped in front of Sokka, giving him a nod, the message clear to Sokka.
'Keep an eye on him… he ain't who he seems.'
They both understood that Jet wasn't a good person. He was shifty, and he started acting nice to Aang and Katara once he saw them bending. He even grinned when he found out Aang was the Avatar, but Sokka saw that it was a smirk. Sokka guessed he would see the true Jet on this mission he was to join Jet on.
Start
Next day
Jet and Sokka are in branches of the same tree. Jet cups his hands and makes a bird call; several trees down, Pipsqueak and Smellerbee step into view from their branches. They reply with another bird call.
Sokka jams his jawbone knife into the trunk of the tree.
"What are you doing?" Jet asked. He wondered if Sokka was a real warrior, or just a chump.
"Shh ... It amplifies vibrations." Sokka said: He learnt this strike from his father who taught him most of what he knew.
"Good trick." Jet said, sounding impressed.
Sokka puts his ear to the handle of his knife. "Nothing yet. Wait! Yes, someone's approaching." Sokka said in a hushed tone.
"How many?" Jet asked the Water Tribe boy. He removed his head from the hilt of his dagger.
"I think there's just one." Sokka said. Jet sent a bird call to Smellerbee, signalling that there was only one passing through.
"Good work, Sokka. Ready your weapon." Jet said, smirking. Sokka ripped his knife from the tree; holding it in a reverse grip. He readily stares down the adversary, but stops when his eyes pick up an old man.
"Wait! False alarm, it's just an old man." Sokka said. Jet ignores Sokka and prepares to attack the old man, leaping to the ground in front of the traveler. Sokka watches with horror.
"What are you doing in our woods, you leech?" Jet asked in a venomous tone.
"Please sir, I'm just a traveler." The old man said; he wore red robes with a satchel, barring the Fire Nation insignia. Jet takes a step, and with one sword-swipe, he sends the man's cane flying from his hand. The old man backs away, but when he tries to flee the way he came, he runs face first into Pipsqueak's chest. The force of the impact knocks him to the ground; Pipsqueak looms over him. He tries to crawl away, but Pipsqueak's foot on his backside effectively pins him.
"Do you like destroying towns? Do you like destroying families? Do you?!" Jet asked; stepping on the old man's hand, the man cowered in fear.
"Oh… Please let me go… have mercy…" He whimpered, cradling his sore hand. Jet came face-to-face with the man.
"Does the Fire Nation let people go?! Does the Fire Nation have mercy?!" Jet snapped viciously at the Fire Nation swine. He prepares to kick his old face with a strong kick, but his foot is snagged by Sokka's Water Tribal club before it can be delivered. Sokka releases him.
"Jet, he's just an old man!" Sokka yelled furiously at the taller teen.
"He's Fire Nation! Search him!" Jet commanded, Pipsqueak held the prisoner and Smellerbee stepped up to search the poor man.
"But he's not hurting anyone!" Sokka countered.
"Have you forgotten that the Fire Nation killed your mother? Remember why you fight!" Jet yelled back, just as angry as Sokka.
"We've got his stuff, Jet." Smellerbee said, she held up the old man's bag. The old man is thrown back on the ground.
"This doesn't feel right." Sokka said. Jet coldly replied.
"It's what has to be done. Now let's get outta here." Jet pushes past Sokka. Pipsqueak and Smellerbee follow. Sokka looks at the old man still on his hands and knees in pity.
"Come on, Sokka!" Jet ordered from a distance away. Sokka slowly turns and runs to catch up with the others.
Hideout
At the hideout, Aang and Momo are playing with the ziplines again. He leaps near Sokka.
"Hey Sokka! Look what The Duke gave me!" Aang pulls a small pellet from it. With a sly grin, he tosses it next to Momo, where it explodes with a pop. Momo puffs up like a startled cat. He hisses and lunges for the bag. Momo sits on Aang's shoulder and tosses several pellets at his feet. Aang dances wildly.
"Ow! Quit it!" Aang yelled in annoyance and fright. Sokka is oblivious of it all. He's sitting with his back to the trunk and staring at the ground, glaring. Katara walks up.
"Hey, Sokka. Is Jet back?" Katara asked, her hand behind her back.
"Yeah, he's back. But we're leaving." Sokka said.
"What?" Aang said.
"But I made him this hat." Katara said. She shows a cap made out of stitched leaves with a flower on top.
"Your boyfriend Jet's a thug!" Sokka snarled. Katara remained oblivious.
"What? No he's not." Katara replied.
"He's messed up Katara!" Sokka growled.
"He's not messed up, he's just got a different way of living. A really fun way of living." Aang said cheerfully.
"He beat and robbed a harmless old man!" Sokka snarled.
Katara crosses her arms; contended. "I wanna hear Jet's side of the story." Katara said. They walked to Jet's room that was in the treehouse next to theirs.
"Sokka, you told them what happened, but you didn't mention that the guy was Fire Nation?" Jet asked smoothly, lying through his teeth. Jet is sitting on a hammock-bed, the others stand. Sokka stands grumpily as far away as he can get. Aang is wearing the hat Katara made; he looks ridiculous and goofy.
"No, he conveniently left that part out." Katara said, crossing her arms and looking at her brother. Sokka walked to the trio.
"Fine! But even if he was Fire Nation, he was a harmless civilian!" Sokka said.
"He was an assassin, Sokka." Jet pulls out a knife and thrusts it into a nearby stump. It is a sinister-looking curved blade. There are four spikes evenly spaced along the grip, with enough space for fingers to go between them. There is a ring on the butt of the knife.
"See? There's a compartment for poison in the knife." He pauses to pull on the ring and removes a small glass tube filled with red liquid. "He was sent to eliminate me. You helped save my life, Sokka." Jet said, sounding grateful, but Sokka knew better.
"I knew there was an explanation." Katara said, sounding thankful. Sokka wasn't convinced however.
"I didn't see any knife!" Sokka said, sneering.
"That's because he was concealing it." Jet said.
"See, Sokka? I'm sure you just didn't notice the knife." Katara said reassuringly, setting a hand on his shoulder.
"There was no knife! And besides, isn't that exact knife he had yesterday? Whatever! I'm going back to the hut and packing my things." Sokka stomps away, angrily.
"Tell me you guys aren't leaving yet. I really need your help." Jet said, giving the defenceless persona.
"What can we do?" Aang asked; as the Avatar, he had to help as much as he could.
"The Fire Nation is planning on burning down our forest. If you both use waterbending to fill the reservoir, we could fight the fires. But if you leave now, they'll destroy the whole valley." Jet said. Katara and Aang look at one another, looking alerted.
Aang and Katara entered their hut. Sokka is seen tying up a mat on the floor. "We can't leave now with the Fire Nation about to burn down a forest!" Katara exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, Katara. Jet's very smooth, but we can't trust him." Sokka said, fully confident with his decision.
"You know what I think? You're jealous that he's a better warrior and a better leader!" Katara accused.
"Katara, I'm not jealous of Jet. It's just that my instinct-" Sokka was cut off.
"Well, my instincts tell me we need to stay here a little longer and help Jet." Katara crossed her arms defiantly. Sokka looked hurt.
"Katara... I'm your brother, your flesh and blood. And you'd trust someone you just met, only because he's cute? Nah, you know what, fine, if you're not gonna listen to me, go ahead and let that mistake bite you in the ass!" Sokka growled out. Katara didn't have the courage to fault him. She was shocked at her brother's words, sure he had yelled at her, but none of them was this brutal. With a face of tears, she pulled Aang's arm.
"Come on, Aang..." Katara said, she walked out of the hut with her shoulders shaking. Sokka looked down, all the stuff he said was true, he won't help her in this pinch until she opens her bloody eyes.
"Bye, Sokka." Aang said apologetically.
Next day
Inside the Trio's hut, Sokka sleeps propped up against his still-packed gear while the others slept in their sleeping bags. Sokka wakes up. He pulls the door flap aside enough to see some of Jet's followers descending on the rope lines. Sokka grabs a rope line down to a lower branch. On the ground below him, Jet's Freedom Fighters are quietly pushing the loaded wagon as Jet leads them out of the camp. Sokka stealthily follows.
In the dark valley. Upstream, and up toward the wall of the valley there is an old falls, and beyond that a man-made dam. A bare cliff off to the reservoir's left provides the view. Jet and his boys emerge from the forest. He goes to the edge and looks down on the dam below. The reservoir behind it is low. He turns back to the wagon.
"Now listen, you are not to blow the dam until I give the signal. If the reservoir isn't full, the Fire Nation troops could survive." Jet told his plan.
"But what about the people in the town? Won't they get wiped out, too?" The Duke asked. Jet places a hand on The Duke's shoulder.
"Look, Duke, that's the price of ridding this area of the Fire Nation." He looks at Longshot. "Now don't blow the dam until I give the signal. Got it?" Longshot nodded.
Sokka watches incredulously from the bushes. He frowns, and hears rustling just before Pipsqueak drags him out by his wolf-tail. Smellerbee's knife is instantly at his throat.
"Where do you think you're going, ponytail?" Smellerbee sneered.
Jet, standing near the edge of the cliff. As he watches, Pipsqueak and Smellerbee drag Sokka between them. Pipsqueak still has a handful of Sokka's wolf-tail.
"Sokka, so great of you to join us." Jet smirked.
"I heard about your plan to wipe out the Earth Kingdom town." "Our plan is to rid the valley of the Fire Nation."
"There are people living there, Jet; mothers and fathers and children." Sokka pleaded.
"We can't win without making some sacrifices." Jet said, thinking Sokka would understand.
"You lied to Aang and Katara about the forest fires!" Sokka said, pointing an accusing finger at Jet.
Jet readjusted his wheat in his mouth. "Because they don't understand the demands of war. Not like you and I do." Jet said, smirking.
"I do understand. I understand there's nothing you won't do to get what you want." Sokka said, spitting in Jet's face. Jet wiped the saliva off his face, he looked at Sokka disappointingly.
"I was hoping you'd have an open mind, but I can see you've made your choice." Pipsqueak and Smellerbee grab for Sokka. Before he can even react, Jet has his wrist pinned with the hooks of his shuang gou. Sokka's other hand is forced behind his back. "I can't let you warn Katara and Aang." He said, Jet releases Sokka's hand; it is immediately forced behind his back.
"Take him for a walk, a long walk." Jet said. Sokka turns around to face his enemy.
"You can't do this!" Sokka yelled over his shoulder.
"Cheer up Sokka! We're gonna win a great victory against the Fire Nation today." Jet guaranteed. Sokka briefly broke free from Smellerbee's hold and ran to Jet, intending to pummel him, but fell short.
"You won't get away with this! You're no match for Naruto!" Sokka sneered, Smellerbee and Pipsqueak pulled Sokka to his feet. Jet came eye-level with the boy.
"No… he's no match for me. After I'm done with that town, I'll show your sister who the real warrior is out of us." Jet smirked.
Naruto
The blonde was walking through the forest, still searching for the kid. He used his seismic sense to locate the kid. He found three heat signatures by the creek.
Walking towards the creek, Naruto saw three kids, one of them he knew, the others were people he had never met.
The female of the trio was lightly tanned with freckles. She had mid-back length black hair tied into a ponytail with amber colored eyes. She wore a mixture of green and lime, showing her allegiance to the Earth Kingdom.
The other boy of the group wore a lime long-sleeved shirt with green pants. He had grey pointed shoes. He had black hair that was tied into a tight bun with hair that fell over his forehead, he was tan with teal eyes.
The last kid was currently shirtless, washing his shirt of the blood that he used to clean his wounds.
"Sun, you really gotta stop trying to join them!" The girl chastised the wounded kid, cleaning his nose with a wet rag stained in her friend's blood. The boy nodded, sipping from a wooden cup they snagged from the Freedom Fighters.
"Yeah Sun. Daiyu is right, Jet won't let you in because of your mother being Fire Nation. Let's just go back to Yu Dao." The boy said.
"Kai, we can't keep living off of fight money that gets stolen! If the Freedom Fighter lets us join, we won't have to worry about money." The boy, Sun said.
"And what if they kill us next time?! You only got away because of a stranger! Luck doesn't fall off trees." Daiyu rubbed her forehead.
Naruto dropped from the trees, landing behind them. They all flinched but froze, thinking it was Jet behind them.
"You know kid, I asked for you to stay at that tree so I could help you, but you ran off." Naruto grinned. The kids screamed, turning around, bending the earth at Naruto who didn't move, they mindlessly threw rocks; the blonde stood there, as the rocks passed him.
Once they stopped they expected Naruto to be squashed, but he suffered no injuries.
"For some kids you have some pretty good bending." Naruto said. He sat at the creek, soaking his feet in the water. The kids cautiously stared down the blonde.
"Uhh… who are you, Mister?" Daiyu asked, blushing at the handsome man next to them.
"Well ain't you a polite girl. But it's traditional to give your name first before asking for someone else's." Naruto said.
"I- I'm Daiyu, these are my friends." She nudged Kai with her foot. The boy stood straight, his chin high in the sky.
"I am Kai! Nice to meet you sir!" He bowed, his head touching the ground.
"Hey, hey. No need for the formalities. What about the other girl?" Naruto asked, pointing to Sun. Sun blushed and angrily stood, slapping a hand on his chest.
"I'm a boy, you bastard! And the name's Sun! Don't forget it!" Sun shouted. Naruto nodded.
"Daiyu, Kai and Sun. Nice names, I'm guessing Daiyu, you are from Yu Dao and Kai is from the Colonies and Sun is from the Fire Nation." Naruto analysed, the kids blanched, their eyes wide.
"Yeah, how'd you know?" Kai asked, awarding a smack in the head from Daiyu.
"Idiot! A stranger tells you where we're from and you say "yeah" What's the matter with you?!" Daiyu asked, palming her head.
"I've been around. While I don't look it, I'm from the Fire Nation too." Naruto said, standing up he looked at the trio. "You guys should get away from this forest. Maybe head back to Yu Dao." Naruto said, Sun stomped his foot, much to the shocking surprise of Naruto, lava sept out of the earth from where Sun stomped.
"I thought I was the only one. You're like me..." Naruto whispered, he grabbed a medium sized rock, converting it into lava.
"I don't want to be, I- I can't control it!" Sun whispered.
"I don't think you have a choice kid. I bet you're scared, I was too, but we can help each other." Naruto said. Sun excitedly jumped in the air, he threw lava in each direction, Naruto raised an earthwall to block the magma.
"Sorry 'bout that." Daiyu bonked him on the head.
"You've gotta be more careful! You fool!" Naruto mentally winced, 'ouch'. He picked up Daiyu and set her down by Kai.
"I know I just met you guys, but if you stick around, I can show you the ropes, teach you three how to bend and take care of yourselves, you'll be safe with me." Naruto promised. the kids nervously looked at one another.
"Really?" They asked, Naruto ruffled their heads.
"I promise." He promised, he then gave Daiyu his shield. "I'll come back for that." Naruto said, smiling widely. His smile dropped when he heard some rustling in the bushes. He stood in front of the kids protectively, looking around while pulling out his spear, twirling it in his hand several times.
"Move it!"
He heard the voice of Smellerbee come around. Grinning.
Jet, Aang and Katara
The collected water behind it is much less than the larger cavity of the reservoir. The river leading to down to it is a thread compared to its 'rainy season' gully. Jet, Katara, and Aang are seen walking upriver along its west bank.
"Jet, I'm sorry about how Sokka's been acting. And for Naruto, he's not really been right in the head since he was banished from the Fire Nation" Katara apologized; not knowing what was happening to her brother.
Jet's eyes widened in shock and anger. 'I see… this is gotta be fun.'
"No worries, they already apologized." Jet said, smirking.
"Really?" Aang and Katara stop and look at one another. "Naruto and Sokka apologized?" Aang asked, wondering if he had heard that right.
"Yeah, I was surprised too. I got the sense that maybe you talked to them or something." Jet assumed; fully knowing that she did talk with them.
"Yeah, I did- well, pep talk for Naruto." Katara said.
"I guess something you said got through to them, and they apologized. Anyhow, he went out on a scouting mission with Pipsqueak and Smellerbee. I don't know where Naruto is" Jet informed them, smiling.
"I'm glad they've cooled off. They can be so stubborn sometimes, especially Naruto." Katara said. They are now walking in the gully, beside the 'river'. Aang pauses after noticing something strange, and is launched into the air by a blast from the geyser he was standing on.
"All right, we're here. Underground water's trying to escape through these vents. I need you guys to help it along." Jet requested. Katara nervously scratched her cheek.
"I've never used bending on water I can't see. I don't know ..." Katara explained her trepidation. Jet stands behind her and places his hands on her shoulders.
"Katara. You can do this." Jet whispered hotly in her ear, his hot breath sending a shiver up the young waterbenders spine and making her blush when he slipped his hands lower, resting them on her hips.
"What about me?" Aang asked as he drifted back down to the ground, missing the whole show.
"I know the Avatar can do this." Jet said, grinning. Aang and Katara stand on one of the many geysers in the gully. While Jet looks on, they bend the water up. After a few minutes, a stream of water emerges from the hole. They pull it to their height and send it toward the river where it continues to flow like a waterfall. The water quickly joins the river.
"Yes! Good job! This river empties into the reservoir-a few more geysers and it'll be full." Jet said.
"Look, there's another steam vent." The bald monk pointed out. Aang and Katara walk off in its direction.
"Okay. You two keep it up, I'll go check on things at the reservoir." Jet said, he turned to walk away but was stopped.
"When we're done, we'll meet you over there." Katara said, smiling, the warm feeling of Jet's breath on her neck still lingering.
"Actually ... probably better if you meet me back at the hideout when you're done." Jet resumes walking away. Aang and Katara bend the next geyser into another fountain.
Later
Aang and Katara bend a few more geyser's into the free-flowing fountain. Aang analysed the work he and Katara did and mentally patted himself on the back for how well and quickly they did it.
"I bet that's enough, and I'm not just saying that to be lazy." Aang sheepishly said.
"Let's catch up with Jet at the reservoir." Katara said eagerly; she wanted to see if she could get a kiss from the tall handsome teenager.
"I thought we agreed to meet Jet back at the hideout." Aang said, a little confused at the change of plans.
"Well, we finished early. I'm sure he'll be happy to see me- I mean, us!" She slipped up, blushing at almost getting caught. Aang squinted his eyes in suspicion.
'Oh, I see how it is.' He growled in his head.
In another part of the forest
Pipsqueak and Smellerbee follow Sokka, who has his hands tied behind his back. Smellerbee gives Sokka a shove; Sokka stumbles but remains on his feet.
"Come on, move along!" Smellerbee ordered, taking pleasure in seeing him stumble.
"How can you stand by and do nothing while Jet wipes out a whole town?" Sokka asked.
"Hey, listen, Sokka, Jet's a great leader. We follow what he says, and things always turn out okay." Pipsqueak defended. Sokka notices a couple of snare leaf-piles nearby identical to the one that enticed Momo, right down to the pile of lychee nuts.
"If that's how Jet leads ... then he's got a lot to learn!" Sokka sprints off in the direction of the snares. Smellerbee makes a grab for him, but misses.
"Hey!" They give chase. Sokka leaps over the leaf piles. Pipsqueak and Smellerbee don't, and end up snared and hanging many feet up in the air.
"While you two are up there, you might want to practice your knot work." Sokka encouraged. Holds up his now-worthless bindings, turns, and walks away.
"Hey, Smellerbee. You gonna eat your lychee nuts?" Smellerbee hits him in the head with a lychee nut and it lands in the pile he's holding. He picks one up and licks his lips.
Sokka laughs as he passes a tree. He jumps out of bushes, coming face-to-face with Naruto and three pairs of eyes.
"Uhh… hi." Sokka waved his hand. The squad waved back. "Naruto! You were right about Jet. He's going to blow up the dam to wipe out the nearby town!" Sokka informed, Naruto became alert. Sokka gets up to leave.
"Where are you going?" Naruto asked. Sokka turned around.
"I'm going to warn the town of the attack, and hopefully get everyone out in time." Sokka said, hopefully. Naruto nodded, it was a sound plan. He turned back around but was stopped once more.
"What about me?" Naruto asked, Sokka turned around.
"I want you to stall Jet. Can you do that?" The Water Tribe warrior asked, Naruto nodded, grinning while sending him a thumbs up.
"You got it boss!" Naruto said.
They went their separate ways, Sokka just got the message in Naruto's new nickname for him; that little piece of information gave Sokka the impression that Naruto saw him as the leader, to which he was, but the blonde saw him as nothing if the sort.
The reservoir
Katara and Aang are standing on the edge of the cliff. At the base of the dam, four of Jet's people are unloading barrels from the wagon and arranging them. "What are they doing?" Katara asked.
"Hey, those are the red barrels he got from the Fire Nation." Aang said, he remembered The Duke telling them about the blasting jelly at the Fire Nation campsite.
"Why would they need blasting jelly?" Katara asked, wondering why her Jet would be placing blasting jelly at the center of the dam. Aang's face became white with fear.
"Because Jet's gonna blow up the dam." Aang said, looking horrified.
"What? No, that would destroy the town. Jet wouldn't do that." Katara said, fully convinced in her answer.
"I've gotta stop him!" Aang stated, he opened his glider; taking off as his glider entered flight mode. Katara began sounding less convinced once she considered the look this could fall upon Jet's past deeds.
"Jet wouldn't do that..." She said. Before Aang can reach the edge, Jet crosses his path from behind and snatches the glider. Aang is left wobbling precariously on the edge, and uses airbending to get himself back on stable footing.
"Yes, I would." Jet said.
"Why, Jet?" Katara asked, saddened.
"Katara, you would too if you just stopped to think. Think about what the Fire Nation did to your mother. We can't let them do that to anyone else ever again." Jet said. Katara backed away, nearing the edge of the cliff.
"This isn't the answer!" Katara cried out.
"I want you to understand me, Katara. I thought your brother would understand, but-" He moves closer to Katara.
"Where's Sokka?" She asked, tears fall from her eyes. Jet reaches out and touches her face.
"Katara." Jet whispered in her ear once he was close enough, to further entice her, he sniffed her perfume. She lowers her head, and with an angry shout, she sends Jet flying with the water from her waterskin. She draws it back into the skin when she's done.
"I need to get to the dam." Aang exclaimed in a hurry. As he reaches for it, one of Jet's hook swords pins it. Jet has the two swords hook to hook; with a yank he pulls Aang's glider to him.
"You're not going anywhere without your glider." He grunts as he swings the swords at Aang. Aang somersaults backward to avoid the extra reach. Aang finishes his retreat, landing near Katara.
"I'm not gonna fight you Jet!" Aang yelled.
"You'll have to if you want your glider back!" Jet threw one of his swords towards Aang, but he dodged; Katara was right behind him.
"NO!" Aang screamed, but he seemed to be too slow to reach the blade. Suddenly before anyone could speak, a spear came soaring through the air; it pinned the sword to the ground by the knuckle covering.
"Is that what I think it is?" Katara asked; the spear retracted from the sword, flying towards the spear. Yup.
"He may not wanna fight you… but I will!" The blonde earthbender said. Standing up on a tree branch Naruto stood with no shirt, it was too damaged from past battles and training. He jumped off the tree, landing in front of the duo.
"Sup guys!" Naruto grinned, the duo smiled at one another. The blonde turned back to face his tree hugging adversary; no longer smiling. He kicked up a plume of dust; fastly approaching Jet who was on guard.
Naruto clashed his spear head with Jet's singular sword. The blonde broke the struggle, kicking the younger kid in the stomach; throwing him into a tree. Naruto tossed his spear towards Jet's head, to which the Freedom Fighter dodged, rolling out of the way. The brunette knew he didn't stand a chance if he didn't have his second sword. Naruto smirked.
He kicked up the blade, holding it before slicing the air a couple times; he admired the craftsmanship.
"Interesting choice of weaponry, or is it." Naruto noticed a purple substance dripping from the butt of the handle and recognized it was poison. "Wow, poison. How original." Naruto said, he gave him the sword and entered a fighting pose, beckoning him to advance.
"Come on… gimme your best shot." Naruto said, waving his hand. Jet growled and rushed the blonde. Naruto dodged the first swing, before he grabbed the other blade, sending Jet flying; not before getting cut on the shoulder by the Freedom Fighter.
The blonde sent a gigantic earthwave, knocking Jet into the trees. Jet fled, with Naruto pursuing. He kicked a tree down, ruining Jet's way of escape. Naruto entered a boxing stance before moving, he threw punch after punch; a jab, a cross, a counter-cross, he'd step back when Jet swung his sword and counter with a mini boulder to the teens midsection. He jumped over Jet's strike to his legs and kicked him in the chest; Jet was thrown off a cliff.
"Crap!" Jet cursed, his hand steadily slipping off the edge but he was grabbed by shoulder-pad and hoisted up, thrown against the tree; he released a grunt of discomfort. Before he could react, Naruto punched him several times; leaving him dazed. He continued his assault before slamming his head towards his own, throwing him away.
Jet got up, intending to treat this Fire Nation scum who's boss; but he was kicked in the face. Beginners luck! He tried it again, and was rewarded the same outcome. The blonde picked him up, punching him in another direction.
Aang and Katara winced, never had they seen Naruto beat someone this hard. Aang had already retrieved his staff but was just watching, contemplating if he should step in or not. Naruto summoned his spear, preparing to end Jet with it when…
"STOP!" He looked for the originator of the voice, seeing the small trio of kids. He sighed in regret, he never wanted them to see him like this. Picking up Jet he placed him on the tree, hanging him up like a painting with his spear, the kids laughed as the joined Naruto.
"Why, Jet? I can't believe I trusted you. You lied to me, you're sick and I trusted you!" Katara cried out, his hands balled into fists. A bird call is heard. Katara and Aang are startled, and look to the valley beyond where it's coming from. Jet gives an answering bird call.
"What are you doing?" Katara asked, on guard.
"You're too late." Jet said, smirking victoriously.
"No!" The waterbender gasped. Aang opens his glider and runs for the nearby cliff. His glider's wings are damaged to the point that he has no lift, and slams back into the ground near the edge. Katara runs over to help him.
"Sokka's still out there, he's our only chance." Aang wheezed out, pain striking his chest from the fall. Naruto saw a flaming arrow slowly approaching the jelly at the bottom of the dam. He retrieved his spear, before chucking it at the arrow, trying to change its trajectory. But missed. The dam exploded, the water seeping through the village.
"Sokka didn't make it in time..." Aang said, his head lowered in sadness at his fallen friend.
"No!.." She fell to her knees, weeping with Aang comforting her. Naruto had a small smile.
'Baldy has a soft spot huh.' Naruto said inwardly.
"Jet... You bastard!" She screamed, he was hit by a large water strike. Katara uses water from the river to throw Jet against the trunk of the tree. Over and over she attacks; Jet is unable to hit the water and its force plasters him against the trunk. She freezes Jet from toe to neck.
"Katara! You have to understand. The Fire Nation is dead and gone, the valley will be safe!" Jet said, coughing the remainder of water from his mouth.
"It will be safe, without you!" In shock, Jet looks up to see Sokka, Appa, and Momo rise from below the level of the cliff.
"Sokka!" Katara said overjoyed.
"I warned the villagers of your plan, just in time." Sokka said, he saluted Naruto who returned the gesture. Jet was outraged at this piece of information. "What?!"
"At first they didn't believe me. The Fire Nation soldiers assumed I was a spy. But one man vouched for me, the old man you attacked. He urged them to trust me, and we got everyone out in time." Sokka finished.
Naruto looked over the forest below; standing on the tree growing over the cliff with his spear to support him. He sees the townsfolk on high ground above the river, on the bank opposite the town.
A little girl runs down to the water's edge as the doll floats by. She retrieves it. He smiles as she hugs the doll.
"Sokka, you fool! We could've freed this valley!" Jet guaranteed.
"Who would be free? Everyone would be dead." Sokka said simply, he was calm and collected while Jet was angry and venomous.
"You traitor!" Jet sneered.
Sokka shook his head. "No Jet. You became the traitor when you stopped protecting innocent people." Sokka finished. Soon everyone boarded Appa, including the trio of kids who had bags tied around sticks.
Avatar: Chapter 5 - Part 2
So yeah, If you've read the comics, Toph meets a lavabender that went by the name, Sun. I don't think they mentioned his friends names so I gave them some.
The next chapter is going to be a more setback chapter. Naruto will take on the role as Sun, Daiyu and Kai's guardians and teacher. He'll take the position as of how Jiraiya did with Yahiko, Konan and Nagato. They'll get training in next chapter
Have a good day.
