"Alright then, time to move in"
I peeked around the tree to see if I could spot anybody in the immediate vicinity… nothing. Only the tiny sounds of what I thought would be Ilumi and other smaller mobs shuffling around a distance away. I couldn't spot those patrols that Faith brought up around the area; at least it would be a pain if I were to be caught.
I quickly began to move quietly while crouching to avoid anybody seeing my figure. The one downside was the sound of leaves rustling as the sides of the cloak went over them, but it was barely noticeable. My heartbeat and breath were already pretty accelerated from the running, but now it felt like they were pounding. It's like the feeling I always get whenever I'm trying to—
Crunch
The sound was almost deafening. In the dead of silence, I stepped on a leaf, and my figure froze near-perfectly. My already thumping heart almost felt like it wanted to break out of my body. I waited a few seconds, expecting, like in the movies, that an alarm would get triggered, notifying everyone of where I was, but nothing happened.
I quietly reassured myself: this is another world. I doubt they could easily hear small noises like this, right…? I shook my head and continued moving, with the building nearly looming over me. One thing I immediately noticed was how shabby it was compared to the buildings in the other village.
While it was definitely not shabby enough to be abandoned, well, that and the lights in the streets. It either meant this was possibly a smaller or more recent settlement compared to the other one. As I got to the side of the building, I could immediately tell the village was definitely smaller than the previous one.
Compared to the previous one, where it took a couple of minutes to reach from one side to the next, it looked like I could run across the whole village in a minute or so. Well, that's reassuring just in case I need to make a quick escape at least. Now back to the task at hand: getting some items.
The building I first came across had no symbols indicating what it was or if it was a shop, to begin with. While I could have just continued moving, I decided to take a small risk and take a peek inside the windows. It was dark inside; I don't think anybody would be awake to notice me.
Pressing my face against the glass, it felt rougher than what it normally feels like, but I just ignored that feeling. I could make out a few things: a table, chairs, and a rug of sorts with an intricate pattern that I could not fully make out due to the darkness. In the back, against a wall, I saw what looked like to be a large counter and a board behind it, but I couldn't make out much else.
I brought my hand down to my side to feel the expected feeling of my hero weapon there. The one convenient thing about it sticking to you is that I don't need to have a holster for it. I quietly patted it to reassure myself that I could at least use it in a hunch before backing away from the window and continuing to silently move along.
The small torches on what looked like an attempted lamppost lookalike were not enough to illuminate my figure if I just moved alongside the side of the building. The road, or rather the path, was different, being pure dirt and not cobbled like the last village, again feeding my guess of this being a newer settlement.
"Well, it would at least explain the deforestation a little," I silently whispered to myself.
I continued to move along to the next building; this one was smaller than the previous one. Also, there was no indication of what it's for, but there was a bunch of large writing on the top. Sadly, I couldn't exactly understand what it said, so it did not help at all.
I again repeated the process of approaching and looking inside through the window. This building was immediately different from the previous one as it had a dirt floor, or what looked like dirt compared to wood. I immediately got the impression that either they had not had enough time to put wood or they just couldn't afford it.
There were more chairs and tables compared to the previous building, but the same counter at the back with a large board. I still couldn't make out anything from it; I can maybe guess this place was a restaurant of sorts. Though then again, this is another world, so my standard of what is considered a restaurant is different.
I pushed away from the glass again and continued moving along, hoping that the next building would actually have something useful compared to the previous ones. Approaching it, it was the same size as the previous one, so my hopes were not exactly high.
I peered inside, immediately noticing that this building was different from the others in how its glass felt. Still not the same, but not as rough as the other windows at least. The floor was wooden, and I actually spotted items, or what looked like them, on shelves behind a large counter.
I stepped back to see if I could find any markings to indicate what type of building this was. I saw a boarded-up piece of wood with some text. However, on top of it, I could make out the figure of what looked like a gem of sorts, though I was not sure. If my intuition is correct, this would mean this place is a jewelry store or something along those lines.
Hm… I could make a quick buck, well, a coin or whatever, selling off the items I stole. I still don't have a grasp on how money works, but I think just putting it out for sale would give me a fair price, even if not, I make a profit.
"I swear the longer I'm in this world, the more of a criminal mindset I get from stealing," I said to myself quietly as I shook my head.
While normally I would never even attempt to steal anything in my life, it wasn't like I had much choice. Being on the run and living a nomadic lifestyle with barely any sleep isn't going to do much to help your mental state. Plus, these guys tried to kill me; there is nothing wrong in stealing from them… yeah…
I quietly reassured myself of the morals behind this and now started devising a plan on how to break in. I grabbed the lock on the door and lightly shook it; as expected, it would not budge. It was a wooden door, but compared to the other ones, it did not look as shabby, so I probably couldn't just force it open.
I moved my hand over to my side to feel the outline of my revolver. I could just blast the doorknob off, but that would make too much noise. I really wish I had a silencer or something else, but nope.
"Damn, I kind of wish I learned how to lockpick now," I quietly cursed to myself.
Well, the only option would be to kick open the door. Though I don't know the exact strength of the lock on it. I don't remember too much about the technique of kicking doors down, but I know I have to kick near the lock but not on it. Guess that's one upside of playing tactical shooters.
I stood up and took a few steps back from the door. I just had to hope that the noise wouldn't be crazy loud to alert anybody. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves; even if I did alert somebody, I could probably run off with a decent chunk of items. I did a quick run-up and kicked the door. To my surprise, it suddenly opened, and it nearly slammed to the side.
I couldn't tell if I was that strong or if the door was just that weak, but I had no time to dwell on it. The noise made from it was not as loud as expected, though if somebody was listening, they would probably wonder what it is, so I had to move fast.
I quickly moved into the building; it was smaller than expected, so there was not much ground to cover inside. I jumped to the counter which, upon closer inspection, was containing more of what looked like rings and bracelets of sorts inside.
I focused on the ones hanging on the display first, grabbing them from where they were hanging and absorbing them into the gem on my weapon. There were various kinds, some yellow, silver, or green. They also had interesting-looking designs carved into some of them, though I ignored them to focus on just taking as many as I could.
I was able to clear the shelves and the ones on display in a span of a little short of a minute. I turned to the counter; there was a lock on it stopping anybody from just opening it. I tried to force it open by kicking it, but compared to the door, it was made of some stone and metal, so it just hurt my foot.
I gave up and looked around for anything else useful to nab before I run out. I looked around and saw a clump of rope and wood planks leaning against one of the corners. I quickly jumped back over the counter and grabbed the smaller pieces of wood and put them into my gem.

Cool a new form. Carpentry..? That's new but I can investigate later, next, I absorbed the rope to see if I got anything new as well.

Rope? Not sure what it means by just saying rope… maybe it's a skill? I decided not to overthink it and ran out; it was better not to get caught. I'll look into my new weapon forms later. As I stepped out of the building, surprisingly, nobody was around. I guess I didn't make as much of a commotion as I thought.
I closed the door to make it resemble that it was not just busted open. While its doorknob was missing, it stayed relatively still, thankfully. Moving to the building next to it, I spotted more stuff inside. It looked exactly like the jewelry lookalike store, though now with different things.
I could make out what looked like bottles on the shelves behind a similar counter. I assumed it was a medical items store. Or at least, I hoped it was since the longer I do this, the higher the chances of getting caught. I decided to take a gamble and go for this store as well.
Again, it was risky, but we needed medical items in case we ever got heavily injured in the future. Especially considering our proneness to getting heavy bleeding wounds from even a cut, just reaffirms that. I went up to the lock on the doorknob, and of course, it was also locked, go figure.
I stepped back, and as I did last time, I ran up and delivered a strong hit near the doorknob, and the door went flying open again.
"I guess they just don't make sturdy doors in this world or something," I mumbled to myself as I moved inside.
I repeated the same process I had for the Jewelry place of just shoving as many things as I could into the gem. This time there were barely any bandages but lots of potions. I wasn't sure what they were for, but the more the better. I almost dropped a few on the floor in my rush to get as many as I could, but luckily, I was able to catch them.
However, after a bit, a notification appeared on my screen, indicating that I unlocked a new weapon form.

"Well, nothing cool, only attack. I'll take it, I guess," I said quietly while continuing to clear out the shelves.
I was able to finish clearing out the shelves of items rather quickly, so I looked around for anything else I could use. Looking inside the shelf, I could see a stool tucked in, on top of which was a book of sorts. It also had weird writing I could not understand, and opening it revealed, you guessed it, more writing. So I just absorbed it into my gem for later use. However…
Book Pistol LV 1
Abilities Locked Equip Bonus: +5 Magic Attack

[O]
"Magic Attack? Well, that's great, too bad I can't even use magic," I grumbled under my breath.
I continued to look, not really finding anything I could absorb unless I could get a lint pistol or something else. I jumped the counter and moved out of the building, again with nobody noticing me. Ominous, this made me wonder if they really had guards or patrols to begin with, but I'd rather play it safe.
I continued to move in the shadows, quickly shuffling from building to building. Most of the other ones had curtains, so I couldn't see inside. However, none really increased in the quality of looks, so I can assume they had nothing valuable to begin with. However, I eventually came across a very interesting building.
There was a design of a sword at the top, along with more text I did not understand. However, putting two and two together, I assumed this is a weapons store. A small issue was the fact that this building also had curtains, and I couldn't exactly see inside due to them.
"I guess I will just have to go in blind," I said to myself quietly as I backed up, preparing to kick the door in.
I ran up, and like before, I delivered a solid kick near the lock. However, the door did not slam open and endured.
"Tougher than I thought, I guess, though it makes sense as weapons are here," I said as I prepared for a second go.
I ran up, and again, I delivered a good kick near the lock. The door again did not budge and remained shut.
"Okay, this is getting ridiculous," I angrily mumbled to myself as I walked up to the door.
Is this made of titanium or something? I began to shake the doorknob violently and shoved my weight against the door in an attempt to force it open. I backed up and slammed my body against it; however, to my surprise, it jolted open from the contact, and I stumbled onto the ground.
"Ow, shit," I cursed to myself as I slowly recovered, fixing my hood.
"Are you alright?" I heard an unfamiliar voice say.
I froze, not knowing what to say. Had I been caught? Is it time to make a run for it?
"Hello…? Are you okay?" the voice said.
I didn't know if I should just run out or say anything. I contemplated my choices, and I grabbed my side to feel my weapon outline once more. While I could run, it might alert the guards to a shadowy figure running through, so it's better to take my chances with negotiation.
"I'm… okay," I said in a gruffer and deeper voice than I normally use to try to play a ruse.
"Oh alright, sorry for that door, it's rather old and gets stuck pretty easily," the voice said in an apologetic tone.
I raised my head to see a shadowy figure standing behind a counter. I was actually pretty shocked; the figure seemed to actually look like a human. Have I actually found someone not wanting to kill me?
They stepped forward into the area of illumination from a small candle sitting on the counter. My hopes were somewhat crushed but not at the same time, as from the looks of it, the figure looked human; however, there was a difference. They had what looked like animal ears instead of normal ears.
I couldn't exactly pinpoint what animal; however, they were gray. I wasn't sure if it was due to species or age due to the lighting not being optimal. At least he isn't chasing me out immediately, so I can assume he isn't hostile for now.
"I see…," I said pretty awkwardly as I got up and just stood still, not exactly knowing what to do.
"Well… welcome to my shop. I was planning on closing up soon since it's rather late, but I'm not one to turn away customers," the animal person said heartily.
I guess this just confirms he is not hostile. I began to walk around the rather compact store, where there were various weapons on display or on stands. Some I had never seen before, with intricate designs, and some were just basic swords and smaller knives.
"Sorry for the dust on some of the weapons, some are rather old," I heard the animal person's voice say from the direction of the counter.
"It's alright," I responded.
Judging from the voice, I could infer he is on the older side as well, which would also explain his gray hairs, I suppose. I picked up a small knife… Nothing, no zap… interesting. I began looking closer at it; there was a thin line of dust, as the person said. I put it back down on the table display it was on and continued looking.
"Are you looking for anything in particular?" The old animal person asked.
"I'm just looking for now…," I responded, sounding somewhat unsure.
"Well, if you need help looking for something, I'm here to help," the old animal person responded.
Reminds me of whenever I enter a store in a mall and there is always a person who walks up and asks if I'm looking for something specific. I guess that's one thing shops here and in my world have in common, not that I have been to any other shop in this world other than this one.
"Actually, wait a minute…," I quietly whispered to myself.
I moved behind a shelf of weapons to make sure I was not seen, then I opened my menu and looked for the help section. I opened it until I saw a tab called weapon copy. Clicking on it made it expand on my menu and fill my view.
[Weapon Copy] Wielder of a Legendary Weapon can copy variants of their respective weapon for later use.
I closed the menu and got an idea.
"Hey, sir, do you have any bows I can look at?" I asked the old animal person as I walked near the counter.
He scratched his chin, probably thinking, before responding, "If I recall correctly, I think they are hanging on the right side wall."
"Thanks," I said as I took a few steps to the right side, however, only to see a bunch of large axes and swords. No bows in sight.
"Uh, I don't see any bows…," I said, turning back to the old animal person standing behind the counter.
"Oh sorry, I meant the left. I keep forgetting where I put stuff, so it comes with old age, I suppose," he chuckled heartily.
As I walked over to the other side, I felt a little guilty. A little while ago, I was planning on robbing this poor old man's shop. If he wasn't awake at this hour, then I definitely would have done it without a second thought. However, having a shop owner here, and old at that, just makes me feel like I'm robbing a mom-and-pop shop.
I looked at the wall to see many different bows, some large and some small. They had some intricate designs on some of them; not sure if it meant anything, but it looked cool. I switched my weapon form to one that gave night vision so I could properly see it.
"So how exactly do I… weapon copy…" I whispered to myself as I looked at my hands.
"If you are wondering, yes, you can take a closer look at the displays if need be," the old animal person said reassuringly.
I grabbed the closest bow I saw, a basic wooden one from the looks of it. I moved it around in my hand… nothing. Maybe I just have to imagine myself using the weapon…? I gripped the weapon a little harder, closed my eyes, and then a popup appeared.

"Neat!" I quietly celebrated with myself.
I put the bow back where it was and grabbed the next nearest one. A smaller bow that looked nearly identical if not for the size of the previous bow. I gripped it and again focused on me using the weapon, and the same popup appeared.

I gave a small grin as I felt like I hit the jackpot of weapon forms. I put back the short bow and grabbed another bow. It was shiny like metal and heavier but similar somehow, like I'd seen it before. The blue tint it had also increased its similarity, but I focused on copying it.

Ah, that's why, it was made of the same material as the armor those lizard men were wearing. Thinking about it gave me some bad flashbacks of me being pushed around and almost killed by them. I dismissed the thoughts and put the weapon back and repeated the process with another metal bow on display. This one feels lighter than the previous one, along with a yellow tint of sorts.

Okay, I'm just getting the bow versions of the weapons I normally unlocked. That's neat, I guess. More equip bonuses for me, I suppose. I put it back and grabbed an unfamiliar metal one also on display, this one feeling not as light but also not as heavy with a tint of red. I repeated the process and copied the weapon.

Vilic metal… never seen that before. Interesting, I should probably absorb this into my weapon to unlock the gun weapon form… though I don't exactly want to steal from this poor old man. Now thinking about it, I sound like a massive hypocrite, but it's not like my mentality was unjustified or anything… right?
I held onto the bow and put it under my armpit, then grabbed the next bow and continued on. This time it being wooden like the first one but larger and thicker.

A longbow… interesting, well, I guess if you just increase the size of any bow, it becomes a longbow, I suppose. I continued on, putting the weapon back on the shelf again and grabbing another one. Strength though… Does that mean that with lots of strength stats, I can just get muscles without needing to hit the gym? That's an interesting thought.

Well, this just confirms that they at least give more stats than their original counterparts, so there isn't any point not copying them.

More magic defense… interesting. I'm getting a lot of new special equip effects, so I'll probably spend a good time deciding which is better. For now, I better keep copying.
"Say, you're not from these parts, are you?" the old animal person stated, questionably.
What to say…. I know!
"Yes, you are indeed correct. I'm a nomad, traveling from place to place," I responded, grabbing the next metal longbow and putting the previous metal one back.

"I see, well, I'm glad you came by my shop, even if it's at this hour. The business has been rather slow recently, as you can probably tell due to the door and dust," the old animal person said the last part sheepishly but with a hint of sadness.
I put the longbow back and scanned to see if I spotted any others. All of them were already copied, so I guess this was his whole collection.
"I see, any reason why business has been slow? You seem to have a pretty good collection to not warrant some interest," I responded, trying to encourage him.
"Well, I am flattered you think of my shop that highly," he said, sounding a bit more perked up than before.
"Heh, don't sweat it," I said, turning around and looking at a nearby shelf for anything else.
"Hey, I never caught your name, mind telling me?" The old animal man curiously asked.
Shit… I never thought of an alias to use in case he asked… I'll just have to think quickly.
"Name's Tidus," I said, trying to act as nonchalant as possible to not raise suspicion.
"Interesting, my name's Conrad. Nice to meet you, Tidus," he said.
"Likewise, do you have any ranged weapons in your inventory you could show me?" I asked him.
"Ranged weapons…? Hm… Are you a hunter or something?" Conrad asked curiously.
"Something like that," I responded.
"I see… well, I assume you already saw my collection of bows, so I would really only have small slings for ranged weapons," he said thoughtfully.
"That's fine, where are they?" I asked.
"There should be a few hanging on a stand in the corner near you," he explained.
I turned, and sure enough, I found 3 slings hanging on a small stand. I grabbed one of them and did what I did with the bows.

"Sorry, but I don't sell the projectiles for the slings, I sold them off a while ago," Conrad said from the counter.
"All good," I said while putting the slings back.
"That does remind me, are you alright back there? It's pretty dark in here, but you never said anything, so I thought you were alright," Conrad asked worryingly.
"Yeah, it's fine," I said, walking to the counter with the Vilic Metal bow in hand.
As I walked closer to the counter, I could see a couple of weapons up against the wall behind it. I did not notice them earlier due to my distance and not wanting Conrad to see my face. I lowered my hood further down just to be safe.
"Find anything you like?" he asked as I walked up.
"Yeah, this Vilic Bow," I said as I put it on the counter.
"Good choice," he said as he rubbed his chin and looked at it.
I quickly went to my pockets and brought out the pouches of money that I stole from the lizardmen.
I spilled them onto the counter and asked, "Is this enough to cover the costs?"
"Let me see…" He said as he took out what looked like a magnifying glass and looked through it to see the money.
I had a small feeling of doubt that it would not be enough to pay for the weapon. And while normally I would make a run for it, I have gotten too acquainted with Conrad to steal from him.
"Yep, that should be enough," He said as he picked up most of the coins and put them in a small pouch.
"Nice. By the way, what is that device you used?" I asked curiously as I grabbed the Vilic Bow along with the rest of the coins off the counter.
"Oh, that's just my seeing glass, which I use to see, as I'm blind," Conrad said heartily.
Now looking closer, I could see some marks on his face, not sure if it was from combat or what.
"Oh…, sorry if I brought up bad memories," I felt regret after asking.
"It's alright. The war was a long time ago, so it's all in the past," he said, putting on a warm smile.
"I see… is that where you got that weapon?" I asked, pointing at a crystal-looking bow hanging on the back wall behind the counter.
"Oh, that? Yeah, do you want to take a look? Do know it's not for sale," He said jokingly as he turned around.
"Yes, please," I responded.
He grabbed the bow from where it was hanging and put it on the counter in front of me. Now taking a closer look, it was almost shining even from the small light source of the candle.
"A beauty, ain't it?" he said warmly.
"Yeah… you mind if I touch it?" I asked him.
"Sure, go ahead," he said, motioning for me to do so.
I touched it, it was rough and coarse. I focused on it for a second, and…

"Neat…," I whispered quietly.
"Yeah, I got it from the war a little before I got put out of service," Conrad said, rubbing the back of his head.
"I see…," I said as he picked it up and put it back where it was.
"Well, I'll be heading off now, Conrad. It was nice meeting you," I said as I began to walk toward the exit.
"Nice meeting you, Tidus. Be sure to stop by if you ever come back around again," he said warmly as I opened the door.
I opened the door and stepped out, it closing shut behind me. It was still the dead of night with the same little to no commotion.
"Well, I got a lot of weapon forms. Now I just have to unlock them," I said as I took in the surroundings.
Actually, this reminds me. I grabbed the Vilic bow that I was holding and put it next to the gem of my weapon. The weapon absorbed it as I expected.

[Other World Index]
[Crystal Shot]
Crystal Shot is a skill acquired from unlocking a Crystalized Bow. The skill summons the projectile of the ranged weapon the wielder is using and crystalizes it and launches it at a target. This skill has low SP cost and a short cooldown due to it only firing one projectile and being not extremely strong.
