Hi! Welcome to my Twilight story! Stephanie Meyers is the rightful owner of these characters and story. Ps. Sam Uley never imprinted on Emily Young in this. Please enjoy the story, I will update it every Friday.
After Driving for six hours I finally pulled into the driveway of our new home. Lizzie was practically vibrating in the seat beside me, she was excited to have a fresh start without any family holding us back.
I climbed out of the car with a stiff groan and trudged to the backseat to pull our cat carrier out that contained our three year old siamese cat, Carli. I also let Penelope, our German Shepherd out as well.
Lizzie was already over by the front door, literally bouncing up and down.
"Sammy! Hurry up! I want to see what it looks like!" She called over in her impatiences. I had already seen the house, so I wasn't quite as excited about getting inside as she was.
I had looked at the house ahead of time, which was only a month ago. It was a nice house, a good size for us. It had three bedrooms, one of which had its own private bathroom. There were two other bathrooms in the house as well, it was two levels excluding the basement, which would be used as storage mostly.
The main level consisted of a large entryway, a very large living room, and a beautiful kitchen. The main floor also had the largest bathroom, the only one with a tub. There was also an office room off to the side of the living room, which would be fantastic for me because I was going to turn it into a sewing room.
The bedrooms were upstairs, along with the two other bathrooms. The first bedroom was mine and obviously it was the master bedroom with its own bathroom, I had to spoil myself sometimes!
The next bedroom was only slightly smaller than mine, but it had a window seat and a built-in bookcase that I was sure Lizzie was going to love. The third bedroom was tiny, maybe the size of the office. Honestly you probably couldn't even fit a twin bed in there. But I wasn't complaining, I would either turn it into a very small guest room or just use it as storage like the basement.
Lizzie shook my arm as I approached the door, I set the cat carrier down and dug through my pocket for the key.
"C'mon! C'mon! C'mon! Hurrrrrrry!" She squealed, I smiled at her and finally unlocked the door. Lizzie bolted inside with Penelope right on her heels. I stepped inside and set Carli down before leaning down and opening her kennel so she could check out the new house.
I shut and locked the door behind me and traipsed up the stairs after Lizzie. When I found her, she was already in her room. She was jumping up and down and looking at every corner, the excitement was pouring off of her in waves.
She finally turned to me with wide teary eyes and bounced over, she hugged me tightly. I couldn't help but let my lip wobble too. We had been through so much to get here and now we were finally here and we could breathe and relax.
I buried my face in her pretty blonde hair, she was much shorter than me being only fourteen to my twenty. She was only 5'5, while I stood at a tall 5'7 and a half. We looked incredibly similar except for our eyes and height. We had the same shade of wavy golden blonde hair. We had the same ivory skin tone, with freckles lightly dusting our cheeks. The only real difference between us was our eyes, she had dark brown eyes from our mother and I had ice blue eyes from our father.
She pulled away from me and kissed me on the cheek, "Thank you so much Sissy." She whispered, I felt tears slip down my cheeks and I hugged her once more and I only pulled away because the moving trucks had just arrived and honked to get our attention.
We made our way outside where the moving people were already pulling stuff out and setting it on the lawn. Lizzie instantly grabbed her boxes and showed the people where to put her bed, mattress, dresser, and vanity.
Before we moved here Lizzie hadn't had any nice furniture, she had an old ratty mattress and a dresser that was falling apart. I had taken her to pick out brand new ones and she picked them well. She picked out a beautiful white set, with pink flowers on the drawers, an excellent choice in my opinion.
While Lizzie went upstairs to set up her room, I instructed the movers on where to put the couch and coffee table.
It was late afternoon when everything was finally out of all the trucks and strewn about the house. I had at least made sure to place the boxes in their respectful rooms so I didn't have to go searching through the house to find a certain box.
I had finished setting up the living and kitchen, everything now had a happy place in my kitchen. I just needed to go shopping to make it truly complete.
I had just walked up stairs and was starting to set up my bed when Lizzie appeared at my doorway. I looked up from my sheets and smiled at her, "Hey, kiddo what's up? Need help with something?" I asked, she shook her head. "No, I don't need help with anything, I was just wondering what we're having for dinner." She explained.
Dinner! How could I forget?
"Right! I think there's a diner in town if you want to go there?" I suggested, her face light up with excitement. "Yeah! Sounds great! I'll go get my coat!" She exclaimed before running down the hall and to her bedroom.
I finished making my bed and threw my jacket on before I practically flew down the stairs and found Lizzie waiting for me. We each pat Penelope on the head and locked the door behind us before walking down the driveway.
"Sammy? Can I drive?" Lizzie asked, I smirked at her. "I don't know, can you?" I questioned, Lizzie sighed and rolled her eyes. "May I drive?" She corrected, I smiled and threw her the keys. I gave her instructions on how to get to the diner and we were there in no time.
The door jingled as we stepped in, during the short drive over it had started pouring rain which effectively soaked us when we got out of the car. We pulled our coats off and sat down at a table.
A sweet old lady came over and asked us what we wanted to drink, we both got hot cocoa. She came back only a few minutes later and set the steaming cups in front of us.
"I haven't seen you girls around before, are you new here?" She asked gently after she had taken our food order. I smiled up at her and nodded, "Yes, we just moved here from Idaho. You have a very nice little town here." I replied, she smiled. "What made you leave Idaho?" She asked, my smile faltered a little. "Ah-Family problems." I answered shortly, she smiled at me and gave me a wink, "Well, alright. I'll have your food out in just a minute sweeties." She said, dropping the subject. I watched her scurry back into the kitchen, no doubt about to talk about us to her coworkers.
Ten minutes later she brought out our food, I had ordered a cheeseburger and french fries and Lizzie had ordered spaghetti and meatballs. When we finished eating the lady brought us a check and I tipped her very well. She was a sweet old lady who actually cared enough to ask you how you were, she deserved a twenty dollar tip even though our meals were only fifteen dollars in total.
The drive home was uneventful, save for the squirrel that tried to unalive itself by running out in front of our car.
When we got home Lizzie kissed me goodnight and went to sleep in her room, Carli following her in. The cat had gotten used to the house incredibly fast and was settling in nicely. Penelope usually slept with me, so she was laying on my bedroom floor waiting for me to go to bed too.
I had finally finished my own bedroom and was getting ready for bed when I heard a muffled sound coming from Lizzies room. I couldn't help my heart from skipping a beat as I trotted down the hall in my pajamas and opened her door.
Lizzie was laying on her side facing the door, a look of pure agony strewn across her pretty face. I crept into her room and gently rubbed her back. I did that for a few minutes before her face relaxed and she let out a sigh. I left her room as quietly as possible.
I quickly brushed my teeth and let Penelope out into the yard to go potty one last time before I climbed under my blankets and shut off the lights. Penelope jumped up on the bed and curled into my side and went to sleep instantly, I wasn't far behind her honestly.
"SAMANTHA! GET THE HELL DOWN HERE!" My father yelled from the bottom of the stairs. I let out a deep breath before making my way down the stairs. I stood in front of him.
He slapped me across the face that held a paper, the white sheet sliced into my cheek. I let out a gasp as my hand flew up to my face. He waved the paper around a few times before shoving it in my face.
"A B- in math! I didn't raise an idiot!" He yelled, spit flying from his mouth and landing on my face. I whipped it off and glared back at him, "Maybe if you actually helped me take care of Elizabeth then I'd have more time to study!" I snarled, he slapped me again.
And again. And again. Again. Again.
Finally he stopped, I couldn't help the tears that spilled over onto my bruising cheek.
"I TOLD YOU TO NEVER SPEAK THAT DEVILS NAME IN THIS HOUSE!" He screamed, Slap! "DO YOU HEAR ME?" He screamed at me again, I let out a sob as his hand once again struck my cheek. "I SAID DO YOU HEAR ME!?"
"YES! Yes, I hear you! I'm sorry!" I cried, my hands coming up to shield my face from his onslaught of hits. "I'm sorry! I won't do it again! Please just stop!" I sobbed, he calmed down after that.
"I never want to see a B on your report card ever again. Do I make myself clear?" He demanded, I nodded. "Yessir." I whispered.
Anger flashed in his eyes again, what had I done this time? This time he didn't slap me, he punched me. I fell back onto my butt with a cry of pain but he advanced determined to discipline me for no reason.
"I AM YOUR FATHER! AND YOU WILL CALL ME AS SUCH! NEVER CALL ME SIR! GOT IT?" He yelled as I continued to punch me until I couldn't see anything but blood and his knuckles.
I sat up right with a gasp, where was I? I didn't know this room. No. I did know this room. I just moved here.
Penelope snoozed next to me peacefully, it was still dark outside and a quick look at the clock told me it was only three a.m. I fell back onto my pillow with a huff and went back to sleep.
I woke again at eight and finally got myself out of bed, when I walked down stairs Lizzie wasn't even up yet. I slide the glass door open and let Penelope outside. I stumbled into the kitchen and made myself a cup of tea before plopping down on the couch and turning the local news on.
The news man was going on and on about some kind of bear attacks that had been happening recently. He managed to talk about it for thirty minutes because apparently that was the only thing interesting happening in Forks Washington.
Finally Lizzie stumbled down the stairs and into the living room, holding Carli securely in her arms with a blanket wrapped around both of them. She plopped down beside me on the couch and proceeded to doze off several times before jolting herself back awake.
"You feel like going to the grocery store?" I asked her as she stared blankly at the TV screen. She slowly turned her head towards me, I could tell she was still half asleep.
"I'm good, thanks though. You can go and I can finish unpacking, sounds like a fair deal?" She replied, I smiled and stood. "Sounds like a great plan. Don't tire yourself out too much, you have school tomorrow." I reminded her, she groaned and flopped her head back.
I climbed the stairs and walked into my bedroom. I had yet to unpack any of my clothes so I had to dig for a pair of pants and a shirt. I pulled my golden hair into a simple braid and brushed my teeth quickly before throwing on some tall boots and a raincoat. I snatched my purse which was beside the door and yelled back to Lizzie, "I'm headed out now! Don't break anything!" I chuckled as she responded with, "I think you mean don't turn our house into a beautiful work of art!"
I hopped in the car and drove the mile to the grocery store, it was a small thing but it had everything I needed. I climbed out of the car and was greeted by the booming sound of thunder.
The rain smacked against me as I made a run for the doors, I threw them open and practically jumped inside. I breathed a sigh of relief, having not been totally drenched.
I took a moment to look around as I snatched a cart and set my purse in it. It was a cute little store, with green walls and those bright white lights that blind you when you look at them too long.
I made my way over to the frozen sections where I picked up frozen vegetables, frozen breakfasts, icecream, and some frozen meat. I moved on to the cereal aisle, Lizzie loved cereal but I hated it. I ate it everyday for sixteen years and I was never putting that disgusting mush in my mouth again.
I also grabbed some canned soups and vegetables, along with a couple boxes of crackers. I grabbed fruit and fresh vegetables too but Lizzie and I both had a snacking side so I threw some chip bags and cookies in the cart as well. Finally I grabbed milk, butter, cheese, and bread.
I made my way to the checkout line. There was already a line forming so I turned down the next aisle to see how long the line was but I accidentally smacked someone right in the side with the cart.
"Oh my god! I am so sorry! I didn't see you there!" I cried as I rushed to the front of the cart. The man was smiling at me and wearing a police uniform, "It's quite alright. Accidents happen." He assured me, I let out a breath of relief. The last thing I needed right now was making enemies with people.
"Alright, but once again I'm so sorry." I repeated, the man chuckled and held out his hand. "I'm Charlie Swan, I haven't seen you around before…Didi you just move here?" He asked, I graciously took his hand and smiled. "Samantha but please call me Sammy and yes we just moved here yesterday. I thought I could get some shopping done so we actually had food in the house but here I am playing bumper cars with people." I chuckled, his smile widened. "You said we. You live with someone?" He asked, I nodded and looked at the floor before looking back up at him. "Yeah, I live with my little sister, Elizabeth, she's fourteen. She's a year ahead in school so she'll be attending the highschool instead of the middleschool." I explained, Charlie nodded in understanding.
"Well, it was very nice to meet you Sammy. I hope you and your sister settle in well." He said, I smiled again. "Yes, it was wonderful meeting you Mr. Swan, thank you." I replied.
"Charlie's fine." He said before he walked off.
What a nice man, at least people were nice here.
I managed to pay for my groceries and load them in the car without hitting anyone else. When I made it home Lizzie had already completed unpacking everything and was now in the process of snoozing on the couch with a cat and a dog snuggled against her.
I set all the groceries down on the kitchen counter and started placing things in their rightful spots. By the time I was done Lizzie had woken up and was walking into the kitchen.
We spent the rest of the day adjusting to our new life and house but it was probably the most peaceful day I had had in a long time.
When the sun went down and it was time to prepare for bed I reminded Lizzie one more time about school before climbing into bed. It didn't take long for me to drift into a deep sleep.
I crept through the house as quietly as possible. But ours floors were old and creaked basically everywhere you stepped.
"Samantha. Where were you?" My father asked from his chair in the living room. I let out a quiet groan but stepped into the living room entryway. "I was at a friends house." I lied, I was actually at a boys house. It was partly true because he was just a friend but my dad didn't want me going over to boys houses.
"Why are you lying?" He growled, not even looking at me.
"I'm no-"
"BULLSHIT! WHERE WERE YOU!" He yelled this time, turning to finally look at me. "I WAS AT A FRIENDS HOUSE!" I yelled back, I was angry. Very, very angry.
"You were at a boys house weren't you." He growled, my fists tightened at my sides. "Yes. I was at a boy's house but he's just a friend! He was helping with my math homework so I wouldn't get a B again." I explained, my father's eyes darkened. "What's his name?" He asked quietly.
"Marcus. We didn't do anything dad."
"I'm calling his mother." He growled as he stood, reaching for the phone.
"Why?"
"To tell her that her sons been hanging out with a whore."
"What? Dad! No, please don't! We're just friends!" I cried, if he told Marcus' mother that than she wouldn't let me hangout with him anymore. He was the only close friend I had.
"Dad, please. I'll do anything! Whatever you want I'll do it!" I cried, trying desperately to grab the phone from his hand. "Get your hands off me!" He snarled, he backhanded me with the phone. I fell to the ground with a cry as my lips split open and pain blossomed on my cheek.
My eyes flew open as a hand flew to my cheek. Just a dream. It was just a dream. We had gotten away from him and we were safe.
My eyes drifted to my clock, six thirty perfect timing. I practically rolled out of bed and went to wake Lizzie, who mumbled something incoherently and shoved her face in her pillow.
I trudged downstairs and let Penelope out before making coffee and starting on breakfast. I pulled out a box of pancake mix that I had gotten yesterday and started reading the instructions.
I had never been an amazing cook, my mother had just started letting me help cook when she passed away. I had managed to save all of her recipes before my father burned them and now they sat in a book at the end of the counter.
The pancakes were fairly easy to make, add some water, egg, and pancake mix and you were good to go. By the time Lizzie arrived downstairs I had a plate of three steaming pancakes topped with syrup on her plate.
"Ooooh, thank you Sammy!" She exclaimed, shoving mouthful after mouthful in. I sat down next to her with my powdered sugar covered pancakes and joined her in shoving pancakes into her mouth. I only choked one time and that was because I breathed in when I shoved a pancake with loose powdered sugar into my mouth, effectively inhaling the evil powder. I coughed for a good solid five minutes before I was okay.
"Lizzie! Hurry up! You're going to be late for your first day of school!" I yelled up the stairs, an instant later the short blonde came barreling down the stairs.
"Sorry, couldn't find my boots." She said with a shrug, I smirked and ruffle her hair. She dodged my hand, "Nuh-uh. You're not messing up my beautiful hair! I spent thirty five minutes on it!" She exclaimed in protest.
I looked hard at her mess of blonde waves and desperately tried to figure out what she had done that took thirty five minutes.
"I'm not seeing it. What took thirty five minutes?" I questioned, she frowned at me and smacked me lightly on the arm. "You wouldn't know, you're not up to date on today's fashion." She said indignantly, I scoffed as I grabbed the keys and opened the door.
"As if. I helped you pick out half your closet!" I argued, she let out a snort. "Right, you mean you picked out things that would make me look like a grandma and I put them back." She replied with an easy grin as we climbed into the car.
"Ya know someday I'm going to get the better on you and I'm going to say 'I told you so.' and I'm going to rub it in." I said, an evil smile gracing my lips. Lizzie rolled her eyes and set her backpack down on the ground.
"Alright, lets do a check list just to make sure you have everything." I said, zooming down the street.
"Pencils?"
"Check."
"Erasers, paper, and notebooks?"
"Check."
"Math, English, and History textbooks?"
"Ugh, Check."
"Don't get sassy with me, young lady. Rulers, French Textbook, and…your glasses?"
"Yes, I have all of those things and more! Oh wait! I forgot my brain! We have to go back and get it!" She cried, I laughed and shook my head. "You're such a brat." I said with a chuckle. She smiled at me and winked.
"Alright, kiddo. We're here. Have a good day, love you!" I called as she climbed out the car and grabbed her backpack. She blew me a kiss, "Love you too! Have a good day at your new job!" She called back before closing the car door.
I watched her for a minute to make sure she made it inside before, drove downtown. When I had come to look at the house and also look for a good job opportunity. A local boutique was one seamstress short and looking for help, they gladly accepted my application.
I pulled into the alley behind the store meant for employee parking and climbed from my car. I walked out the back door and pulled out the key I had been given. I easily unlocked the door and made my way inside.
"Hello? Mrs. Wright?" I called as I walked further inside. The sweet old lady I had talked to on the phone appeared in the doorway to my left.
"Ah, Sammy! Right on time!" She exclaimed before grabbing my hand and started pulling me to the front of the store. "Marie called in sick, so you'll have to be our register girl today if that's alright?" She asked, her glasses sliding down her face slightly. I nodded enthusiastically and followed willingly after her.
"Alright we have a few customers coming to pick up some stuff. All you have to do is ask for their name and order number and then check these bins. They paid ahead of time so don't worry about that. If it's not in the bin then it's not ready yet. Okay?" She said, I nodded along to her words. It sounded simple enough.
Mrs. Wright turned to go back to the sewing rooms when she turned back to me, "You'll do fine honey, so don't worry." She said before disappearing into the back.
I sat there, in the front, for a good solid two hours before I finally heard the door jingle. I looked up from the book I had perched in my lap.
The second I laid my eyes on him my heart stopped and my breath froze. If angels were real I'd be staring at one right now. Dark hair, dark eyes, light bronze skin. Tall and utterly perfect and he was staring right at me.
We were opposites in almost every way. He had darker skin and I had pale skin. He had dark eyes, I had light eyes. I had light hair, he had dark hair. Even though we were different, I couldn't help but notice the strange pull in my chest that led right to him.
He was staring at me like a deer caught in headlights. Was he feeling the strange pull as well? Or was I just crazy. It was almost as if time had stopped itself and I could see the millions of thoughts that buzzed through his head in an instant. I'm sure I looked the same.
I snapped my book shut and stood, "Hello! Welcome in! Are you picking up or dropping off?" I asked, he blinked away his daze and approached the counter cautiously.
"I'm here to pick up a shirt." He replied, I nodded. "Okay, what's your name and order number?" I questioned, he blinked a few times. "Sam. Sam Uley and my order number is-" he dug through his jean pockets. "-33756." He finished, I nodded and started checking through the bin.
"Ah, it looks like it isn't ready yet. When did you drop it off?" I asked, he stared at me again with a strange intensity. "Uh about four days ago." He answered, I dog through the bins one more time but again came up empty handed.
"Sorry, it's not ready yet. If you give me a number to call I can let you know when it is ready though." I offered.
He nodded before taking a flower pen from the pencil holder and scribbling it down on the piece of paper I provided for him.
"Sam, huh? My name is Sammy." I said, he looked up from the paper, a bit surprised. "Is that short for something?" He asked, I nodded. "Yeah, for Samantha. Samantha Greene." I replied.
For the first time since he walked in the door he finally smiled, I felt a blush creep up my neck. "Samantha? That's pretty." He said as he finished writing his contact information on the paper. He slide it over to me, "I've never seen you here. Did you just start working here?" He asked, ah again with questions.
"I actually just moved here with my little sister Lizzie. Have you lived here a long time?" I replied, he nodded his head. "Yeah, I was born and raised here. My whole family was, and our ancestors. I live on the rez." He explained, I nodded in understanding. "Cool, got any good places to eat?" I asked, he nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! BlueJeans on Old Brown road is really good. I highly recommend the fish sandwich." He laughed, it was a glorious sound.
I smiled "I'll have to take my sister there sometime for lunch then. Thank you for your recommendation." I chuckled, the best part was I was going to see him again when his shirt got fixed.
We both jumped as the door jingled again, I looked over and saw it was a young woman with a baby on her hip. "Hi, I'm here to pick up an order for Tracy." She said as she approached the counter.
"One moment ma'am-" I said, turning to her and then back to Sam. "-It was very nice meeting you Sam. I'll give you a call when your shirts are ready." I said, sad that I had to say goodbye.
"Thank you Sammy. It was nice meeting you too." Then he was gone and I was left alone with the woman and her baby.
"Alright, how may I help you ma'am?" I asked, turning towards the woman once more.
"Hey, kid! How was school?" I asked as Lizzie climbed into the car. She smiled over at me. "I made a friend, her names Bella Swan." She shared excitedly, I felt a smile brighten my face. "That's great honey! I think I might have met her dad at the grocery store yesterday too." I mused.
Lizzie told me about her whole day as I drove home and then continued to tell me about it when we were inside sitting on the couch.
"You've been strangely quiet…why?" Lizzie questioned when she noticed my head in the clouds attitude. "Hm? What?" I asked, focusing on her. "Ooh. You met someone didn't you?" She teased, I tried denying it but my bright red cheeks gave me away.
"You did! What's his name? What does he look like? Is he cute? How old is he? Is he from Forks?" She asked, she shot off question after question until my head was spinning.
"Slow down! His name is Sam, he has dark hair and eyes and light bronze skin, he is very cute. He didn't give me his age and yes he's from Forks." I breathed, I let out a sigh of relief as she finally settled down.
"You met him at work?"
"Yes, I met him at work. Gosh, he was perfect…I felt a pull to him. It was so strange." I whispered in awe, Lizzie giggled next to me. "You've got a cruuuuush." She teased as she poked me in the side relentlessly. I scooted away from her prodding finger and frowned. "It's not a crush…It's-it's…Fine. It's a crush." I grumbled, Lizzie smirked. "Knew it."
"Oh hush. See any cute boys at school?"
"Meh. One of them seemed interested in me but backed off when I told him I was only fourteen." She explained, I nodded. "Bummer. I'm sure you'll meet someone you'll like eventually." I reassured her, she shrugged. "Eh, I'm not stressin' about it."
"Fair. Who needs a man?" I laughed, Lizzie laughed and settled back down to watch the TV.
I already loved Forks so much. We were finally free from our father and our past and could have a fresh, new start. A good start.
