The day passed slowly for all of them. Gale ended up spending nearly all of her day in Tatum's room, which the hospital staff allowed; they were familiar with all three of them from their infamy in the town and made allowances for them.

They watched lame sitcoms and movies, with Tatum convincing them to do her own strange version of a "drinking game" with juice rather than alcohol which seemed to have rules that only she was aware of. Tatum convinced Sidney to take a nap with her, and although Gale was resistant to the idea, Sidney did manage to talk her into at least lying down on the pull-out recliner in her room to "be more comfortable while you watch out for us" as she and Tatum shared Tatum's hospital bed. Something about watching the other two women sleep, with their bodies relaxed and their even breathing, was soothing, and Gale too ended up lulled into dozing off. Later, she denied it, but it happened.

Several times throughout the day, Sidney called into the Roberts, checking with both Kate and Jill that everything was still okay. As evening approached, she decided to go over and check on them in person, to talk to Jill again, face to face, about the caution she needed to take as a potential target, and to get some of her and Tatum's belongings for the hospital. By this point, Tatum too was getting restless of the hospital and had started practicing getting out of bed, standing, and walking around her room with support, despite the difficulty and pain this caused her with the wounds in her back and chest. Of course, both of them attempted to talk Sidney into driving them home, although this was against medical advice; she had earlier let Kirby take her keys and drive her car from the Stabathon to the hospital, so it was available for her to use when needed. Sidney refused, and the two ended up left together in Tatum's room, grumbling about hospitals and overprotective staff and significant others.

When Sidney pulled up to the Roberts' house, she could tell immediately that something was off. It just felt different, wrong- there was a vibe to the air around her that made the hairs on her arms stand on in, alert and tensed. As she got out of her car, retrieving the handgun she kept in her glovebox, she spotted the patrol car parked at the sidewalk across from her, and her wariness jumped higher. Its window was broken on the driver's side. When she approached it slowly, weapon drawn, she saw that the officer inside was slumped over, bloodied from deep cuts to his throat and chest, and as she reached to check his pulse, she realized he was dead.

Immediately she reached for her phone, calling Dewey. Last contact she'd had with him, he had texted Gale to let her know he would be going by their house to pick up some things for them and would be returning to the hospital soon. She was unsure if he had yet reached the hospital as the call went through, but she didn't give him time to say as she spoke tersely.

"Dewey, I'm at the Roberts' house, the officer outside is dead, and it feels wrong around there. I think he's inside or just left there. I'm going in."

She didn't give him time to reply, hanging up quickly and making her way inside. She was quiet as she entered, weapon forward, eyes sweeping back and forth and frequently shifting her posture so her back was never turned to one particular area for longer than a second or two. But it didn't take long for her to see that Ghostface had indeed been present. In the kitchen, Kate Roberts was sprawled across the floor, a broken wine glass scattered nearby her, its contents spilled over the tile. She stared up at the ceiling, lips parted, eyes open and unseeing, and she too had suffered multiple stab wounds to the torso and a finishing slash to her throat.

Sidney's hands trembled as she checked for a pulse she knew would not exist. She hadn't known her aunt well, and she hadn't particularly been fond of her, but she had been family, her mother's sister, and having one of her last living connections to her mother dead- murdered- was gut wrenching, felt like a personal failure on her part. All she had left now of her blood family- her mother's blood family- was Jill, and Sidney's heart clinched with her fear for her.

Moving quietly and carefully, Sidney made her way upstairs, heading for Jill's bedroom, where the girl most often could be found. She didn't knock, but rather threw the door open suddenly, intending to catch any possible killer in the act before he or she could be warned of her presence.

There was no one there that was visible, although Sidney quickly checked behind the door, the closet, and under the bed. What had drawn her immediate attention though was the fact that the bedroom looked disheveled, as though some sort of fight had taken place. Jill's blankets and pillow were on the floor, her desk chair was overturned, and several pictures and other objects were shattered on the ground, as though they had been thrown in defense. Sidney spotted a cell phone among the broken objects and quickly picked it up, recognizing it as Jill's from the case. The screen was shattered, but she was able to turn it on and quickly read through a string of texts between Jill and her ex-boyfriend, Trevor.

Jill: I cant, on house arrest anyway u no I have nothin 2 say 2 u anymore

Trevor: come on bb, please, please lets just talk in person

Trevor: im so sorry, I love u so much

Trevor: please just come out and talk to me

Trevor: Kirby says its just her and Robbie there, her parents are gone again so

Trevor: come on

Trevor: I just really want to talk to u please

Jill: ok fine, come pick me up but you have to be sneaky

Jill: come around the back, dont let mom or cops see

Jill: hey trevor is that u out there? I hear something weird

Jill: Trevor?

That was when the texts ended. Sidney, taking the phone, tried calling first Trevor, then Kirby, but neither answered. Sticking the phone in her pocket, she searched the rest of the house, finding no one and no further signs of violence.

To Sidney, there were many possible options of what had happened, none of them good. It was possible that Trevor himself was Charlie's partner and had lured Jill out in order to finish off her, Kirby, and Robbie all in the same location, after first killing the officer and Kate at Jill's. It was also possible that the true killer, whoever he was, was using Trevor's phone or a clone of it to trick Jill. She had not forgotten that the original plan before Gale and Tatum's stabbings had been for Jill, Kirby, and the rest of their friends- Charlie included- to go to Kirby's house after the Stabathon. No doubt Charlie's partner had planned to be there too, to carry out the "final act" of violence. Whether or not Trevor was Charlie's partner, someone was clearly trying to finish things off, with or without Charlie.

Making her way back to her car, Sidney called Dewey again, giving him an update of the situation.

"I'm on my way to Kirby's right now," she concluded. "If you tell Gale and Tatum what's happening- which honestly, I wouldn't if possible- make sure they stay put. Tie them down if you have to, I don't care. But keep their asses in the hospital and out of this bullshit."

He could practically smell the damp cloud of sadness that hung in the department, and everyone's movements were lethargic. Hoss and Perkins were loved by practically everyone, their energy and dedication motivation for many, and now they're gone. In the span of one night, Sheriff Dewey Riley nearly lost his sister and wife, and officially lost two of his deputies and his unborn child.

To say work felt slower than usual was an understatement. He sent three deputies to watch over the Roberts' house, and he had several officers combing the streets for as long as he could keep them out there. After the incident at the Stabathon, he thought it necessary to put out a curfew - everyone in their homes by 8 PM.

When he had gotten the chance, he drove home to gather some belongings Gale and himself could have at the hospital, such as pajamas, phone chargers, and anything Gale asked for from Sidney's message to him after he had asked if there was anything Gale thought she'd need. Of course he had to get a call during all of this, but it was from a detective, and there was some suspicious activity going on on Fort Dillon, the same road the Stabathon had occurred the night before.

By the time he got out there it was assessed to be nothing but a false alarm - just rowdy teenagers who clearly weren't taking the curfew seriously. As his detectives continued to search the old barn and the officers that accompanied him to Fort Dillon drove the degenerates back home, he got another call. At this point he was getting tired of all the calls he was getting, even if he understood why, but having to have his attention at every which place in Woodsboro was taxing.

The caller ID came up as Sidney, and so assumed it was either the girls checking in or something was happening. He didn't get the chance to get a word in before Sidney hurriedly informed him that an officer he had stationed at the Roberts' house was dead and that the killer might still be in the house.

"Wait, Sidney-" he said trying to get her to wait for himself or his deputies, but she already hung up. "Goddammit," he muttered to himself, limping to his cruiser and flicking his sirens on before speeding down the rural road. "This is Sheriff Riley. All available units make their way to the Roberts residence - one officer down with the possibility of the suspect still close by," he radioed in, just beginning to turn into town.

He was joined by a second cruiser as he blasted through town, the continued whirring of the siren beginning to give him a headache. When he arrived at the Roberts' home, he didn't see Sidney's car outside, and he was unsure of what to assume of that - did she decided against going inside and went back to the hospital? Did she go in and see nothing? Was she kidnapped?

About four officers and three deputies convened to the house, however, before he got the chance to give any orders, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw another incoming call from Sidney. He held his breath as he accepted the call, waiting to hear either Sidney's voice or Ghostface's.

He was able to breath again when he heard Sidney, but it immediately quickened when she gave him an update on the situation - she was going to Reed's house, and all alone. "What? By yourself?" he questioned. "Sid, are you mad? Who knows how long it's going to take me to get there now that I'm across Woodsboro."

He spoke with her all the while directing his officers to search the house and assigning Hicks in charge as the other two deputies searched the surrounding area. He got back in his cruiser and on the road again, sirens blaring. "I'll just tell them we'll be a bit late getting back," he said, honking his horn at a car that refused to pull off to the side of road despite his sirens. "They'll probably call bullshit, but they can't get out of that hospital unless Gale pulls a scalpel on one of the staff."

He took a sharp turn out of town, entering a ritzy neighborhood. "And Sid," he said. "Stay safe, please. I don't want you hurt too."

"Of course by myself," Sidney defended, speaking even as she drove, phone against ear. "I'm done running and hiding and letting people less experienced with this shit suffer for it, even if they are police officers. No offense to any of them, but they're just in the way. Jill and I are the ones they really want, Dewey, and I refuse to let them have her. Don't worry, I have a gun. And by now, I know how to use it."

She exhaled as Dewey entreated her to stay safe; she would do her best, but she could make no promises. "I always fight back, Dewey, you know that. You be safe too."

Hanging up, she made her way to the Reed house, even as Dewey was receiving another phone call.

"Dewey?" cried Jill's voice, small and frightened and breathless, as though she were running while speaking. "Dewey? I need help!"

She appeared to be hyperventilating as she gasped out, "Dewey, please, please come help me, please! I was so stupid- I let Trevor come get me, he was supposed to take me to Kirby's, but he didn't, Dewey, he- I think he's a killer too! He didn't take me to Kirby's- he took me to the old elementary school across town, and he started talking about Charlie and a plan, and- Dewey, I got scared and I jumped out of the car and ran, and he started chasing me! I'm in- I'm in the woods behind the school now, I'm hiding, but I'm so scared he's going to find me! Dewey, I have go to, he might hear me or see the light on my phone- please come get me, Dewey!"

Her phone cut off then as she hung up, just before making another call to Tatum. In less than twenty seconds, her voice switched from panicky and terrified to simply confused and anxious.

"Tatum? This is Jill. Tatum, do you know where Sidney is? I really need to talk to her. I'm at Kirby's house, can you tell her I'm there? Can you tell her to pick up the phone?"

Tatum, sitting cross-legged on her hospital bed with Gale on the recliner across the room from her, shot a look at Gale, who stood and came closer to listen, interested and alert as Tatum mouthed Jill's name across the room to her.

"Hi, Jill," Tatum said, raising her eyebrows at Gale. "I thought Sidney was coming by your house to get some things for us. I also thought that you were supposed to stay at your house. Dewey made that pretty clear to all of us that he wanted you to. How did you end up at Kirby's?"

Jill appeared to hesitate before saying with guilt in her tone, "Um, I might have agreed to let my ex, Trevor, come pick me up and bring me to Kirby's. But he and Robbie just disappeared, and Kirby and I are getting nervous. I want to go back home. Can you tell Sidney to call me and come get me?"

"Doesn't Kirby have a car?" Gale mouthed at Tatum, now practically pressing her ear up against the phone with Tatum, and Tatum echoed this.

"I thought Kirby has a car, can't she drive you home?"

"I don't want to look like I'm leaving because I want to, that's so not cool, you know? It would help me save face if it looked like Sidney was making me go."

"It would have saved more face if you stayed put in the first place," Gale muttered under her breath, even as Tatum responded.

"Why haven't you just talked to Sidney, Jill?"

"She's not answering texts or calls," Jill said plaintively. "Can you please tell her I'm at Kirby's and I really would like her to come get us? Please?"

"Okay," Tatum said slowly, eyebrows both raised. "Okay, sure, I'll tell her."

Hanging up, she and Gale exchanged a grim look- either something had happened to Sidney at the Roberts' house, or else something very strange was going on with Jill. Tatum dialed Sidney quickly, who answered sounding rushed and distracted, still driving.

"Tate, in the middle of something, I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Jill just called me," Tatum cut her off, which got Sidney's attention fast. "She says she's at Kirby's, that she wants you to come get her and Kirby because her ex and Robbie Mercer are acting weird and just disappeared. She said she tried to call you and you didn't answer."

"What?" Sidney responded, confusion in her voice. "No, she didn't call, she doesn't even have her phone. It's back at her house- did it say Jill's number when she called you?"

"Yeah- why, do you think it was cloned?" Gale interrupted, speaking loudly enough for Sidney to hear.

"Maybe- she said she called and I didn't answer? I haven't got any calls. Unless it went straight to spam if it didn't recognize the phone she was calling from," Sidney tried to reason aloud. "But she's definitely at Kirby's, and she and Kirby are okay?"

"Last we hear, apparently," Tatum filled her in. "Sid, you and Dewey are going off to do some final act battle, aren't you? That's what's going down right now?"

"I'm headed to Kirby's right now, Tate, I gotta go," Sidney said rather than a direct answer. "I love you."

As she hung up, Tatum and Gale looked at each other again, understanding and suspicion plain across their faces.

"Face off with Ghostface?" Gale asked grimly, and Tatum nodded.

"For sure. You think the call with Jill was fishy?"

"Very," Gale confirmed.

She straightened, grabbing the jacket Sidney had left behind and slipping it on over her hospital gown. Tatum made an affronted noise, swinging her legs over the side of the bed with some effort.

"Excuse you, you think you're leaving without me?"

"I was planning on it," Gale said, struggling to figure out how to put the jacket on over the arm in a sling and eventually just leaving it slung over her right shoulder on that side. "You can barely stand, let alone walk a long distance or fight for your life."

Tatum took a surprisingly quick step forward, giving her a poke in the stomach. When Gale yelped, doubling over, Tatum said smugly, "And a point scored by me. If you're going, I'm going."

"There is no fucking way we're both walking out of this hospital without someone trying to stop us, and I can walk a hell of a lot faster than you can now," Gale sniped, to which Tatum simply settled herself into Gale's abandoned wheelchair, turned it around with a little difficulty to face the doorway, and gestured for her to push behind.

"Then you'll just have to push me out the front door, won't you?"
