Chapter 3: Hunt for the Chaos Emerald
Sonic, Tails, Julia, and Arthur Woods were in Tails' lab. The little fox was actively searching for the location of the Chaos Emerald, while the others were looking at the screen in hope and expectation that the Emeralds would be found. This went on for several minutes until a bright red exclamation mark appeared on the screen. Everyone noticed this sign and Tails clicked on it with an arrow before a lot of information appeared on the screen about the location of the emerald.
"One was found," said the little fox. "Now…"
He pressed a key to find out the name of the area where the Chaos Emerald was located. The eyes of Julia and her father went wide with surprise and shock when the very name of the place appeared on the screen - Sherborn!
"What?!" Julia screamed in surprise.
"I'm not surprised by that," Sonic said. "Emeralds can be anywhere, even in unexpected places. Like, for example, in a volcano or at the bottom of the ocean. (He sees Arthur looking at him in confusion.) What? Tails and I are so used to it."
"This is serious," Tails said, turning to the red-haired girl and her father. "The fact that the Chaos Emerald is located somewhere in your hometown alarms me. This may attract the attention of Dr. Eggman and he will attack your city and its locals."
"I know, Tails," Julia said. "But besides that, my friends and my relatives live in my town. I don't want them to be in danger because of this."
"You're right, Julie," agreed the little fox. "I don't want innocent people to get hurt either. Also, I don't want this to attract the attention of the authorities. If they notice all this, then consider that we are in big trouble."
"Tails," Sonic suddenly approached him and put a hand on his shoulder. "I have a plan for this."
"Hm?" asked the little fox.
"Exactly," Sonic replied. "Me, Julie, and you can go there to find an emerald in the Sherborn area, and leave Mr. Woods behind. Do you mind it, Mr. Woods?"
"I can stay here," Arthur said. "If something happens, I will inform you by phone Julia. Julie, do you have your phone with you?"
"Yes, dad." Julia replied.
"Well, okay," Sonic said, turning to the little fox and the red-haired girl. "Is everyone ready?"
Tails and Julia nodded their heads in agreement.
"Then…" Sonic said with his trademark smirk before he took Julie in his arms like a bride, "…Let's go!"
After that, Sonic with Julia in his arms, along with Tails, left the laboratory and ran in the other direction so that no one would notice them.
Sometime later…
They arrived at the place where, according to Tails' navigator, the Chaos Emerald should lie. The blue hedgehog released the red-haired girl from his hands and together they began to examine the place. It was a small field above the open sky. The field was full of grass and flowers of various shades and types.
"Am I the only one who thinks this place is very beautiful?" Sonic said, seeing the beauty of the field.
"Me too." Julia said.
Tails looked at his navigator and walked around the field looking for a signal. The blue hedgehog and the red-haired girl followed him. Tails soon reared his head abruptly and ran towards the tree before stopping and looking up at him. Julie and Sonic approached him.
"Did you find something?" the blue hedgehog asked his friend.
"Where…where…" he said before he smiled and his eyes sparkled with joy. "Found!"
"Where?" Julia asked, looking at the branches.
"He's on the top branch of the tree," Tails replied. "I'll get him."
Tails jumped and flew up on his tails. Seconds later, he returned to earth, already with a green emerald in his hand.
"Well done, buddy," Sonic said, putting his hand on the fox's head and starting to stroke it. "I'm proud of you!"
"Thanks, Sonic!" Tails laughed.
Julia smiled because she, too, was proud of her friend. But it wasn't long. Soon everyone heard strange sounds coming from near them. These sounds resembled the sounds of a car engine when it is ignited, the noise of wheels and the like. Everyone was alert because they knew what that meant. Soon badniks appeared in front of them, led by one of the Hard Boiled Heavies members - Heavy Rider.
"Oh-ho-ho!" soon there was a well-known malicious laughter of a mad scientist.
Dr. Eggman descended to earth in his eggmobile.
"Hello again, rodent!" he said. "I see that you and your little friend and the red-haired girl found one of those emeralds, right?"
"Eggman!" Julie said the scientist's name furiously.
"That's right, Miss Woods," said Dr. Eggman. "I came here for the Chaos Emerald!"
"We've known that for a long time," an annoyed Sonic said. "Listen, why do you tell us this every time, if we know perfectly well what you will do?"
"That's just in case If you forgot." Eggman replied.
"Are you serious?" Sonic asked and a drop of anime style fell on him.
"Yes," Dr. Eggman replied before he cleared his throat. "Where am I stop? Oh, yes exactly!"
He snapped his fingers. All the badniks began to approach Sonic's team. Seeing what was happening, Sonic turned to his friends:
"Tails you stay here to protect Julie while I deal with the badniks."
After such words, the blue hedgehog ran forward, while breaking 5 badniks. He ran among the robots, while breaking them and freeing small animals. While Sonic was doing this, Tails and Julie fended off the attacks of the badniks, while at the same time trying to hold the green Chaos Emerald. But they did not notice the figure among the badniks, as they were focused on ordinary robots. This figure hit the little fox with a mace. The Chaos Emerald fell from his hands and he was captured by Heavy Rider. After receiving the emerald, she drove towards Doctor Eggman.
"No!" Julie screamed, seeing that this badnik was leaving with the emerald and tried to run to him in order to return him.
But the unexpected happened.
HIYA!
Someone's familiar hammer hit the badnik's head. Heavy Ryder flew off her faithful "horse" Jimmy (if that's a motorcycle bug). The Chaos Emerald was in the air until a hand grabbed it. The battle stopped for a while, and everyone looked in the direction of the attacker.
"You won't get the emerald, Eggman…" - said the striker, who turned out to be Amy Rose. – "... As long as there is me!"
"Amy!" the red-haired girl and the little fox said joyfully, recognizing in her a pink hedgehog.
"Hi, Amy!" the blue hedgehog greeted her, standing on one of the badniks. "We're here fighting Eggman for the Chaos Emerald."
"I've known about this for a long time," Amy said with a smirk, taking her hammer and starting to prepare for battle. "I'm sorry I distracted you all from the fight. Shall we continue?"
Everyone looked at each other in absolute silence until the battle began again. Sonic continued to break badniks with Julia and Tails while Amy dealt with Jimmy, Heavy Rider's trusty "horse". This bad guy was so pissed when he saw what happened to his rider that he attacked the pink hedgehog. Amy managed to turn away from his attacks. She would have hit him with a hammer, but she remembered that she held a green Chaos emerald in her left hand. Before long, Jimmy drove quickly straight towards her, which knocked her off her feet. Amy fell to the ground, still holding the emerald and the hammer. Jimmy ominously approached her and Amy froze in place. Fortunately for her, Sonic arrived just in time and used a spin dash to hit the badnik, thus turning him into a pile of scrap metal.
"Amy, are you okay?" the blue hedgehog asked her.
"Thank you," Amy thanked him. "And I thought I was going to die on the spot."
"But you're still alive," Sonic told her. "Do you mind if I take an emerald to make it easier for you to swing your hammer?"
"Certainly!" agreed the pink hedgehog with a smile.
Sonic took the emerald from her hand and helped her to her feet before they both returned to the battle.
The battle continued until all the badniks were destroyed, including Heavy Rider along with Jimmy. Dr. Eggman remained on the battlefield on his eggmobile. Team Sonic and Amy Rose looked at him menacingly. But Eggman was calm for some reason. Suddenly, buzzing saws appeared from his eggmobile.
"How do you like that, pests?" the evil scientist asked the blue hedgehog and his friends.
This led to the next battle. Dr. Eggman used all kinds of weapons that were in the eggmobile: flamethrower, rockets, bombs, and so on. The heroes continued to fight Dr. Eggman no matter what. During this, something happened. When Dr. Eggman fired missiles at our heroes, one of them and a large one headed towards the red-haired girl, who did not suspect that the missile was heading towards her. Luckily, the pink hedgehog turned towards Julia. As soon as she saw that the rockets were heading towards her, she ran straight to her friend. Tails noticed this and flew towards her.
"Amy, stop!" he shouted.
But Amy did not hear him and ran to Julia. As Tails reached them, there was an explosion caused by Amy hitting the rocket with a hammer. The blue hedgehog's ears caught the sound of the explosion, and he turned around with a worried look. Seeing Amy and Tails lying unconscious on the ground, he ran towards them.
"Tails! Amy!" he shouted, shaking them.
While all this was going on, Eggman received a message. He opened it and, having read what was written there, flew off the field in an unknown direction.
Sometime later...
"What's happened…?" Tails muttered as he came to.
He was lying on a green sofa in a cozy living room in the house.
"Tails!" the little fox heard the voice of his friend.
Sonic quickly walked over to him and hugged him.
"I'm sorry I left you with Amy and Julie," said the blue hedgehog with a guilty look. "If I was in this place, I would have prevented everything."
"Come on, Sonic," Tails said with a smile. "It is not your fault. By the way, where am I and Amy?"
"You're at Julie's house," Sonic replied. "Amy is here too. She came to her senses."
"Tails…" the voice of a red-haired girl suddenly rang out.
The boys turned to see Julie and Amy approaching them. Julia was the first to approach him.
"...It's all because of me," the red-haired girl said softly. "If I spotted the rocket and moved away from this point where I should be hit…"
"Julie…" Amy said.
"It's my fault!" she said loudly. "I could not protect you from danger and as a result you hurt! I…"
"Julie," the little fox told her. "It is not your fault. We encounter these more often, so for me and Sonic this is not surprising. Amy, (Tails turns to the pink hedgehog) It's not your fault either. You were trying to protect Julia from danger. Neither I nor Sonic are mad at you."
Even though Tails told them it wasn't her fault, Julia still felt guilty that her friends had been hurt because she didn't see the rocket.
"By the way, do we have an emerald?" Tails asked.
"Yes," Sonic replied. "It's in Julie's room. But by tonight we'll take her to your lab. I don't want Julie's friends and family and innocent people in trouble again because the emerald is still in Sherborn."
"Guys," unexpectedly the voice of Julia's mother called them. "Launch is ready!"
"What's for launch, Mrs. Woods?" Amy asked.
"Chili-dogs!"
"Oh yeah!" Sonic cheered before he ran to the kitchen.
"We are with you!" Tails and Amy said and ran into the kitchen after him.
Julia was left alone in the living room. At first, she was in thought about something. She reminisced about what had happened before. But then she smiled, realizing that everything ended well and her friends were fine, before she herself went to the kitchen, joining the others.
