Pokemon Tragedy At The Wallace Cup Chapter 3 May Wakes Up
The sterile white walls of the hospital room seemed to close in on May as she lay there, surrounded by beeping machines and the faint hum of the medical equipment. An IV drip hung from her bed, pumping fluids into her body, while a heart monitor displayed a steady heartbeat. The room was cold, but not in a way that chilled her bones- rather, it numbed her senses, making it difficult to focus on anything other than her injuries.
May's broken ribs ached with every shallow breath she took, a constant reminder of her vulnerability. Her leg, encased in a bulky cast, felt heavy and immobile and she had a large gash on her back that had been stitched up. Even though she was still alive, she couldn't help but feel like she was in twisted nightmare. As May slowly drifted back into consciousness, a searing pain shot through her body, causing her to let out a involuntarily groan. She clenched her teeth, wincing at the sudden discomfort that pulsed through her petite frame. It was so frustrating, feeling so helpless and weak. She didn't want to burden anyone, especially Ash, Dawn, and Brock. But as much as she tried to fight it, she knew she needed help more than ever.
As May's vision slowly cleared, she became aware of a familiar figure slumped in a chair beside her bed. It was Ash, fast asleep, his cap titled low over his eyes, and one arm flung over the backrest. His normally spikey black hair appeared mused from his restless sleep, as it tousled from tossing and turning in his sleep while his clothes were rumpled as if he had been wearing the same outfit for days. The faint rise and fall of his chest indicated that he was deeply exhausted, yet he remained close by, as if he was waiting for her to awaken and even in his sleep, he seemed protective and supportive.
The sight of him stirred something inside of May- an ache that went deeper than her physical injuries, she couldn't deny the feelings that she had been growing for Ash, but now it seemed impossible. As much as she wanted to reach out to him, she needed to focus on her recovery first.
A soft knock at the door drew her attention away from Ash, and she saw Dawn and Brock cautiously entering the room, the two had decided to break and take a walk, their faces lit up when they saw May was awake.
"May! You're finally awake!" Dawn exclaimed, her blue eyes sparkling with excitement. Her pink attire seemed even brighter against the sterile hospital environment, reminding May of her vibrant energy.
"Thank goodness," Brock added, his ever present-grin widening as he approached her beside "We've been so worried about you."
"Guys I'm okay," May managed to say, wincing slightly as the twinge of pain shot through her ribs "I'm just...really sore."
"Of course, you are," Brock said gently, his voice filled with understanding "You've been through a lot."
Dawn nodded in agreement, her expression softening with empathy. "But we're here for you. We'll help you get better."
At the sound of their voices, Ash stirred from his slumber, blinking groggily as he looked around the room. His gaze settled on May, his eyes widened with surprise and joy.
"May!" He exclaimed, sitting up abruptly "You're awake! How are you feeling?"
"Like I've been run over by a Tauors.' She joked weakly, attempting a smile despite her discomfort. Ash's concern for her was touching, she couldn't help but feel a warmth in her chest that had nothing to do with her injuries.
"Hey, at least you still have your sense of humor," Ash said with a small laugh, relief evident in his voice. Their eyes met for a moment, and May could see the depth of his feelings in his gaze
She forced herself to look away, focusing instead on her friends who were gathered around her. She knew they were there for her, just as she would be with them, and while the road to recovery might be long and difficult, with their support, she felt ready to face any challenges that lay ahead.
Ash's unwavering gaze meets her again, and she sensed something different about him, something she hadn't noticed before. There was depth of emotion in his eyes that made her heart skip a beat.
"May," He said quietly, locking eyes with her, "I promise I'll be here for you every step of the way."
"Thank you, Ash," She whispered, her voice cackling slightly. The sincerity in his voice made her chest tighten, and for a moment, the pain from her injuries seemed to fade away. She felt grateful for their friendship but couldn't shake the feeling that perhaps there was something more between them.
May could feel her throat was dry as the cracked earth of the desert, and she struggled to swallow. She glanced hesitantly at Ash, who was now wide awake, and watching her with concern "Ash, could you please...get me some water?" she asked in a weak voice, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment, as she hated depending on someone to do something for her.
"Of course, May," Ash replied immediately, rising from his chair. He crossed the small room to the sink, where he filled a plastic cup with cool water. May couldn't help but notice how the muscles in his arms flexed as he held the cup steady, and she felt a warmth spread across her face. As Ash returned to her bedside May tried to reach for the cup with trembling hands. Her fingers barely brushed the cool surface before they began shaking uncontrollably, due to her still being weak, causing her frustration to surge.
Ash noticed her struggle and quickly moved to help her. "Here, let me help you," he said gently, concern etched on his face. Without waiting for her to reply, he told hold of her wrist to provide support while his other hand held the cup steadily.
"Thanks," She mumbled, feeling vulnerable and embarrassed by the current situation. As she titled her head back and too small, careful sips, she couldn't help but be acutely aware of Ash's presence- the way his fingers were warm and firm against her skin, and how his eyes never left his face, ensuring that she was comfortable.
She could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she drank, and she desperately hoped that Ash didn't notice the blush creeping across her cheeks. But despite her inner turmoil, there was something comforting about having him so close, ready to help her without any hesitation.
Ash carefully cradled May's head with one hand, while he held the cup of water to her lips with the other. His touch was gentle and steady, ensuring no water spilled. As May took slow, measured sips, she felt grateful for his unwavering support but couldn't shake a sense of embarrassment, as she loathed getting help and was a very independent person and she hated depending on people. but she knew that she needed to have people to help her.
She drank slowly, savoring the cold liquid as it slid down her throat, easing the raw ache that had settled there, with each sip, she felt a little more like herself. And with every passing moment, she found it hard to ignore the warmth in her chest that came from Ash's soft touch.
Ash steadied May's hand, his fingers gently supported her trembling wrist as he helped her grasp the cup. The softness of his touch reassured her, reminding her that she was safe and cared for her in her fragile state. He positioned himself closer to May, making sure to steady grip on the water-filled cup.
Ash carefully tilted up the cup towards her lips again. A slight quiver ran through May's body as she anticipated the cool liquid crossing her parched mouth. She felt Ash's other hand lightly cradled the back of her head, providing extra support for small sips.
May savored each drop, feeling gratitude swell within her. She couldn't help but dwell on Ash's attentiveness, and the way his gaze seemed to see more than just her physical pain. Despite her frustration and weakness, she found solace in the tender intimacy of this moment.
"Is that enough?" Ash asked softly, his eyes locked onto her, filled with concern.
May nodded, swallowing the last mouthful of water, before allowing herself to rest against the pillow "Thank you, Ash," She whispered, her voice audible.
"Of course, I'm here for you," He replied, setting the cup aside and giving her assuring smile.
It was clear to her now that there was something more between them, their bond transcending more than a simple friendship. As much as it scared her, she couldn't help but feel a thrill at the thought of what this could mean for their future together.
At the moment, it hit Ash-he needed to let Nurse Joy know that May had woken up. "I'll go get Nurse Joy," he said, quickly rising from his seat beside the hospital bed "She'll want to check over you now that you're awake."
"Alright," May responded weakly, watching as Ash hurried out of the room.
His heart raced as he navigated the sterile hospital corridors, finally spotting Nurse Joy at the nurse's station. He approached her, trying to catch his breath "Nurse Joy...May, she's awake," He stammered, his excitement evident in his words.
"Really? That's wonderful news!" Nurse Joy exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise "I'll come check on her right away." She grabbed her clipboard and medical supplies, following Ash back to May's room.
As they entered, May looked up at both of them, offering a small, determined smile. She wanted to show how strong she was, despite her injuries. But deep down, she couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by her situation, and Ash's caring actions only served to strengthen her growing feelings for him.
Nurse Joy entered the room with a gentle smile, her soft footsteps barely audible against the linoleum floor. May watched as she set her clipboard on the bedside table, along with an array of medical equipment. The sterile scent of the room instantized as Nurse Joy approached the bed, her gloved hands reaching out to examine May's injuries.
"Alright, May let's take a look at how you're healing," said Nurse Joy, her voice warm and reassuring. She started by gently pressing the stethoscope to May's chest, listening intently to May's heartbeat and breathing. May couldn't help but wince as Nurse Joy touched the sensitive area near her broken ribs.
"Sorry dear, I know it's uncomfortable, but I need to make sure everything is healing properly," She apologized, her eyes filled with genuine concern. May nodded weakly, understanding the necessity of the checkup.
Next Nurse Joy lightly pressed against May's wrist to measure her pulse. The steady beep of the heart monitor nearby provided a reassuring rhythm as Nurse Joy worked "Your pulse is strong," Nurse Joy commented with a smile, before reaching for the blood pressure cuff hanging nearby. With practiced ease, she wrapped it around May's arm and inflated it, watching the numbers on digital display as they stabilized "And your blood pressure looks good too"
Nurse Joy continued her examination, checking on May's leg cast for any signs of swelling and discomfort. She then carefully inspected the large gash on May's back, adjusting the bandages as needed.
"Can you tell me how you're feeling right now?" Nurse Joy asked, pen poised above her clipboard "Are you experiencing any severe pain or discomfort?"
"Um, well...it hurts quite a bite," May admitted, biting her lip.
"Your body has been through a lot, May, it's normal to feel sore and tender after sustaining such injuries", Nurse Joy reassured her. "Just remember to rest and allow yourself to heal."
As the examination continued, May's stomach rumbled audibly, causing her cheeks to flush with embarrassment, she hadn't realized just how hungry she was until that moment. Her friends glanced at her with concerned expressions.
"Uh, Nurse Joy? I'm really hungry..." May confessed, her voice wavering slightly. "Could I have some Ramen? It's my favorite food."
"Of course, May," Nurse Joy replied with a smile "I'll make sure to get you something to eat right away."
As the nurse turned to leave the room, May couldn't help but feel a mix of gratitude and frustration. She was thankful for the help her friends and the medical staff provided, but she longed for the independence she had enjoyed before the accident. Determined not to be a burden, she resolved to heal quickly and reclaim the life she had known.
"Thank you," She murmured, her voice barely audible as she fought back tears. Her friends exchanged glances, silently vowing to support May every step of the way on her road to recovery.
Nurse Joy returned with a regretful expression, shaking her head as she approached May "May I'm sorry, that cafeteria doesn't have any ramen at the moment."
Disappointment washed over May like a wave, and she couldn't help but feel even more frustrated with her current situation. She had been hoping for her favorite food, but it seemed that even the simple pleasure was now out of her reach. Her bright blue eyes brimmed with unshed tears.
"May, don't worry about it," Ash said, jumping to his feet, his voice filled with determination "I'll find you some Ramen, I promise." He shot May a reassuring smile, trying to suppress his own concern for her wellbeing.
"Really, Ash? You don't need to-" May began to protest, but Ash cut her off with a shake of his head.
"Of course, I do, May, It's the least I can do after everything you've been through," He insisted, his brown eyes meeting hers with unwavering response, in that moment, May felt a warmth in her chest, grateful for Ash's support.
"Thank you, Ash" She whispered, finding solace in his kindness.
Without another word, Ash bolted from the room, his cap a blur as he sprinted down the hallway in search of the elusive Ramen. His mind raced, determined to bring May's comfort she desperately needed. After asking a few pedestrians, he finally found a small establishment tucked away in a side street.
"Hello! Can I get some Ramen to go, please?" Ash requested, his breaths coming in short breaths from his hurried search. The person behind the counter nodded and set to work, quickly preparing the steaming bowl of noodles, broth, and toppings.
As Ash waited, his thoughts were whirlwind of emotions: concern for May, hoping the Ramen would bring her comfort, and an underlying realization that his feelings for her ran deeper than friendship. He clenched his fists, vowing his support for her through this difficult time.
With the Ramen securely packaged and paid for, Ash hurried back to the hospital, his legs pumping with determination. He couldn't wait to see the joy on May's face when he presented her with her favorite food- a small token of his unwavering care and affection.
With the aroma of fresh Ramen filling the sterile hospital room, May's eyes lit up and Ash carefully set the container in the tray in front of her. Her weakened state momentarily forgotten, replaced by a surge of excitement and comfort for her favorite food. She attempted to sit up straighter, only to wince and groan as pain shot through her broken ribs.
"Here, let me help you," Ash said gently, propping up several pillows behind May to support her back. His concern for her was evident in furrowed brow and attentive gaze.
"Thanks, Ash." May offered him a weak smile before turning her attention to the Ramen. Her hands trembled as she tried to grasp the chopsticks, her fingers fumbling with unfamiliar movement. The frustration bubbled inside her, a mix of embarrassment and annoyance at her own inability to perform such a simple task.
"Here, let me," Ash offered, taking the chopsticks from May's unsteady hands. With practiced ease, he picked up a few noodles and brought it up to her lips.
May hesitated, her cheeks flushing pink as met Ash's determined gaze "I don't want you feed me, Ash," She murmured, humiliation creeping into her voice.
"May, it's okay. You're injured and need help right now. That's what friends are for," Ash assured her, his tone gentle yet firm. Relucent, May opened her mouth, allowing Ash to feed her first bite of Ramen. As the warm broth washed over her taste buds, she couldn't help but close her eyes and savor the familiar flavor.
"Thank you, Ash," She whispered, gratitude mingling with her lingering embarrassment. They continued in companionable silence, Ash feeding May bite by bite, their bond growing even stronger with each tender gesture.
Just as May finished her meal, a sudden pressure in her lower abdomen forced a grimace on her face "Dawn, I need to use the bathroom," She admitted sheepishly, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of pink. Asking Dawn because she was the only girl in the room.
"Of course, May! Let me help you," Dawn chirped, all too eager to assist her friend, she carefully wrapped around May's arm and her shoulders and supported her as they hobbled towards the bathroom.
As they reached the doorway, May, unaware that her scrubs was unzipped, inadvertently exposed her backside to Ash and Brock, who happened to glance over at the exact moment, their eyes widened I shock, both young men frozen in place, unable to look away.
"Uh, May...Your scrubs," Brock finally managed to stutter out, his cheeks burning with embarrassment. Dawn smirked mischievously from behind May, her blue eyes twinkling with amusement.
"Wh-what about them?" May stammered, her heart racing at the realization of her unintentional display.
"Um, they're, uh, unzipped," Ash mumbled, his face flushed a deep red as he averted his gaze.
"O-oh!" May gasped, mortified. With trembling hands, she hastily zipped up her scrubs, her face matching the redness of Ash's cap. Dawn giggled as she helped May into the bathroom, leaving Ash and Brock to exchange awkward glances, both silently vowing never to speak of it again, although the two couldn't get it off of their mind and kind of enjoyed it.
A short while later, Nurse Joy came by for another checkup. She greeted everyone with a warm smile and approached May's bed "How are you feeling now May?" she asked, her eyes filled with genuine concern.
"Still sore, but a little better," May replied, her voice still weak, but steadier than before. She hesitated for a moment before asking, May feeling sticky and uncomfortable from her injuries. "Nurse Joy, how am i supposed to take a shower? I can barely move."
"Ah, I understand your predicament," Nurse Joy nodded sympathetically "For now, you'll have to take sponge baths until you're in better shape."
May frowned slightly, not thrilled by the prospect, hoping that it would be some random guy, as May knew she had a great body, she wasn't bragging or anything, as she caught many guys checking her out all the time, and plus no guy had saw her naked before "And who will be giving me these sponge baths?" Hoping it wouldn't be a guy.
"Either myself or one of the female nurses," Nurse Joy assured her, sensing May's apprehension, and fully understanding it too.
Dawn, never one to pass up the opportunity for mischief and knowing full well of May's crush on Ash, chimed in with a devilish grin "You know May, maybe Ash should give you a sponge bath. He's been so helpful already."
May's face turned beet red at the suggestion, her heart pounding in her chest. "Wh-what!? N-no that's...that's not necessary!" She stammered, mortified by the idea, but in the back of her mind she thought it would be okay.
Ash, being his dense self, and being completely oblivious to the undercuts in the room, innocently furrowed his brow "Why would May want me to give her a sponge bath? Nurse Joy said she would do it." He looked genuinely confused, and May could feel the heat of her blush intensify.
"Never mind, Ash! It was just a joke!" May exclaimed, desperately trying to hide her face. She shot a pleading look a Dawn, begging her friend to drop the subject.
"Alright, if you say so," Ash shrugged, still puzzled but willing to let it go, Dawn, however, couldn't hold her laugher any longer and she dissolved into a fit of giggles.
"Sorry, May," She managed to gasp in between giggles "I just couldn't resist!"
May huffed in mock annoyance, but deep down, she was grateful for the lighthearted moment amidst the pain and embarrassment she'd had been experiencing. It reminded her no matter what challenges life threw at her; she could always count on her friends by her side- even if they occasionally teased her.
