Chapter Ten
..
..Rose's Whoniverse
..
"Alright try that," the doctor said as Rose flipped a switch, sparks shot from everywhere. "Stop stop stop!" He yelled as she turned it off. He moved a couple of wires and followed up with, "try it again."
She flipped the switch, no sparks, the machine began to hum back to life.
David jumped back up to the bridge level and instantly started checking this and that. "She's back and full power, I've rerouted her backups to faraday room should something happen. I've matched frequency to the gate that opened, the shields should hold through the trip." He told everyone.
"What do you mean, should?" Miyako asked.
"Well there is a small chance it could drain the shields before we get to where we're going. But it'll make for a more interesting ride if so!" He said cheerily, trying to deflect her.
"And ju-" Miyako started, but Ken finally grabbed her shoulder.
"It's fine, it'll be fine." He assured her.
"But!-" She protested, unmoved.
"Just let it go." He looked to David, "ignore her, she can be this way sometimes. Carry on." He pulled her away.
Yamato and Taichi stood behind David watching him work, finally asking, "so does that mean we're ready to try again?" Yamato asked as Taichi followed up with, "we've got to find our friends."
"Yes, we're ready to try again." He looked at Rose, "are you ready my dear?" She simply nodded and he started again, the engine of the Tardis roared to life. The computer he initiated began to crackle again with energy, "open the door!" This time Mimi complied for him. He shot the energy out using a makeshift device, passing the doorway and opening a giant mirror-like door outside. The door formed once again, "alright everyone, hold on..." the Tardis engines peaked and it took off, "allons y!" He said with a huge grin as the Tardis swiftly splashed into the purple door with ease this time.
His Tardis spun through the multiverse with electricity bouncing over and off of it, inside the everyone can see the intense scenes from the screen. The rustic looking column spun while the inside was turbulent.
"It's slingshotting us out into a reality, hold on everyone." David said as the bridge shook, a few sparks flying as the G-Forces suddenly became a massive burden, returning to a gravitational universe the Tardis was unhappy.
"What were we supposed to be doing before, jumping?!" Miyako said semi angrily, but mostly venting anxiety.
Ken grabbed her hand and held it solid, trying to reassure her.
The G-forces peaked as they exited the event horizon, but instantly the Tardis stabilized, no longer feeling the gravitational force weighing on them. The Tardis landed with a thud, Iori and Sora both thought about what could be outside.
"We seem to be outside Tokyo, some place called Odaiba?" David said pulling up multiple screens.
Taichi and the others brightened up. Renamon stayed out of the way after the first mishap, but finally showed herself in the corner. She didn't appear either pleased nor unhappy.
"That's our home!" Miyako said.
"Well it's probably not-" David started before everyone phones slowly began to ding one after the other again and again, they all checked, some voicemails some texts, among others, all suddenly rushing in.
"That's odd, I wonder if we are in your home universe." David questioned before pulling out that device.
"Now that is not a screwdriver, what really is it?" Ken questioned.
"No it is, I don't like weapons, this is a sonic screwdriver, it's a wonderfully useful tool." He said proudly as he aimed it at the others while they all began to walk out of the large pillar. He then aimed at someone on the street they saw walking past.
Before he could speak Iori asked, "how come no one notices this pillar just sitting here? Nor us really, what's going on?" He asked the man.
Taichi spoke up, "cause I'm not gonna just pass a pillar on the sidewalk, I would be asking questions."
"No you wouldn't. That's a perception filter, humans are unbelievably easy to mislead, this misleads the subconscious from noticing. If you don't know it's here you don't know it's here. But you're in your home-verse it appears. All of your patterns match everyone around." David told them, "except her." He pointed to Renamon while Iori's face just crinkled curiously, Taichi and Yamato thought about what to do next before they both had the same idea.
Taichi pulled his phone out and dialed Hikari.
Yamato did the same and called Takeru.
Sora and Mimi went through messages and voicemails.
Ken called Koushiro.
But alas no one answered for any of them.
"We have friends here, but no one's answering." Taichi said as he hung up.
"Same here, maybe we go check on them?" Yamato asked.
"Renamon you might should stay here or go in the-" Taichi was cut off.
"I'll be here," she turned and walked back in the Tardis, barely acknowledging them. Taichi felt very small when he talked to her. She was very intimidating.
"Alright, let's go, a friend's place is close-by." Taichi told everyone, they all followed and set off thru the city of Odaiba.
As the last person passed, the tv became clear in the background without them seeing. The news caption read 'Stay away from all anomalies, destructive and murderous monsters coming out! Stay inside!' No audio but you could see the worry in the newscaster's face.
..
..Tamer-verse Digital World
..
Ryo and Gennai walked through a dense forest somewhere deep within the server continent two Mechanorimon stood at the other end of their footsteps.
"Are you sure about this," Ryo asked him, following him down, "path" he said sarcastically as another large vine Gennai pushed aside smacked Ryo. Frustrated he finished with, "because it sure doesn't look like any path has ever been here sir! Like ever!"
Gennai chuckled, "that's because you don't know what to look for!" They walked out of the brush into a clearing finally and up to a cliff face. The trees were so thick you couldn't see the top or even the surrounding cliffs covered in weeds and vines.
"There was this temple that was in research I've seen before. It was carved into the cliffs, no historical records, no written word it's just there. It was stumbled upon."
They walked along the cliff as he talked, "but now, if what you found is true then it shows there's a secret chamber built by the ancients there for their descendants..." he got quiet as he looked down at the page he brought and looked back at the cliff, "there!"
He made his way over to a very odd looking vine covered large rock, stripes of blue between the vines. "This rock carved out of the cliff has always been talked about, no one understands why or how it's dyed blue inside and out. Even the chunks they managed to scrape off. It's been the subject of multiple investigations but I've never personally been until now." He grabbed the vines and weeds over the blue rock and yanked them down.
"Hah, there it is," he showed Ryo the page and it in fact was an exact match to the large blue rock stuck in the cliff.
The page he brought showed someone putting their hand on the blue rock and being taken to a hidden room "it cannot be so simple, though, someone would have found it."
So Ryo put his hand on it slowly, nothing happened. He moved and tried again, and again.
Finally he sighed, "no I guess it's not." He walked back some and looked it over, "let me see the page again." Gennai held it up as he also looked over the area carefully for a clue.
"It literally shows it's right there in the middle. Maybe it's got a power source somewhere, or an on switch?" Ryo said feeling around all the crevasses.
"I don't think it's a power problem in the Digital World, but you might be into something with an on switch may-" As Gennai reached out to help, it activated, hissed steam to his touch and they both jumped.
"Whoa. What did you-" Ryo started before the entire blue rock lit up a gorgeous blue.
Then the rock audibly stated, "Authorized user, access granted." And they both just looked at each other before the rock hissed again and changed to a blue metal doorway which opened for them as well.
They both stood at the entrance for a moment before Ryo spoke, "it was that easy... but... you're taking the lead. It doesn't like me." He stuck his head in and looked around inside waiting on Gennai.
They slowly entered, Gennai looked down one dark hallway, then in the other direction an identical dark hallway. He looked back to Ryo.
"Which way do you think?" Gennai asked before looking back down one dark hallway.
Ryo, looking down the other hallway said, "no idea, they both look endless."
"If we could find some kind of computer-" he barely was able to get the word out before a panel on the wall across from them opened to reveal a computer.
"How may I be of assistance?" Both young men looked as though their souls exited their bodies briefly as they jumped and turned.
The figure just continued to smile, awaiting a response.
"Can I be of assistance?" It asked again smiling.
Gennai and Ryo looked at each other before Gennai finally spoke up.
"Who are you?" He asked.
The being seemed slightly confused.
"You asked for the facility's computer, I'm here, can I be of assistance?" He smiled once again the exact same smile.
Ryo reached out and his hand passed straight through the image, it wavered while it moved through.
"You're a hologram," Gennai relaxed some, "that explains a lot."
"Yes." He smiled.
"What is this place?" Ryo asked, it didn't move just stared smiling.
"...," Ryo looked to Gennai. "Hellooooo." It didn't acknowledge him in the slightest.
Instead Gennai looked at the "computer" and asked, "what is this place?" The being looked right at Gennai.
"This is the universe's last defense system." He told them.
"What the hell does that mean?" Ryo questioned, before frustratingly looking to Gennai.
"Why do you only speak to me?" He asked instead of Ryo's question.
"This system and its facilities are restricted from unauthorized use or access. You must be Atlantean to access any system or to open the facility." It told him with a smile.
Gennai was puzzled, he looked over at Ryo though who looked at him speechless...
"What?" Gennai questioned Ryo, then he asked, "who are the Atlanteans?" He was even more puzzled now with the boy's odd reaction.
"I...well, I mean they're a myth, a story, one that's arguably 12,000 years old..." Ryo managed to stammer out. "I think Plato or someone old mentioned a great race before Human that spanned the universe... Never has any evidence been presented through, it became a folk tale."
"Really?" Gennai asked, then looked back at the "computer". "Who are the Atlanteans?" He asked.
"They are first race to achieve technological mastery. The oldest. The keepers of the universe, they guarded galaxies and races as they achieved their own goals, whether primitive and untouched, or an ally and partner in the alliance. They are the creators and pioneers of the digital world, enabling them to all beings both primitive and advanced, to help protect themselves from evil. They built the intergalactic Gate systems as well allowing travel between these worlds with relatively unadvanced technology." Ryo stood with his mouth wide in disbelief.
"They created the digital worlds? There's more?" Gennai asked.
"Every race has a digital world in most universes." It said.
Ryo caught the wording it used and asked, "there's more than one universe?" He waited a moment before cursing, looking at Gennai.
This time he repeated, "there's multiple universes?"
"The Atlanteans also discovered a multiverse, contacting their counterparts in every universe they collaborated to help the entire multiverse prosper." He finished.
Gennai looked at Ryo, "this is insane, I...wait, then what happened to them?" He wondered.
Gennai picked up the idea and asked, "what happened to the Atlanteans and their allies now?"
"..." The being stood there.
"..." They both looked at each other before Gennai began, "did you hea-"
"Searching records." The being was locked in place, possibly loading Ryo felt like.
"Final record entry found, Atlanteans evolved to no longer need physical bodies. Their physical bodies turning to digital data, forever able to travel the universe and multiverse."
"Then why is this place their last defense, what happened here?" Gennai was puzzled again.
"This place was built to withstand the assault of an evil that found the Atlanteans traversing the multiverse. They were teaching these civilizations but never the digimon in the digital world and one became jealous, angry and vengeful over time for them not taking him or sharing their technology. This evil was named Bugendaimon." The being paused a moment, like a skip, his image repeated.
Then suddenly it continued like normal, "at first he wasn't considered a threat, but as his powers began to grow they found out how dangerous he really was. He was able to mimic thoughts or force ideas into their heads and eventually create beings based on memories of others. He was able to kill an entire intelligence team using that, tricking them with memories of their loved ones and absorbing a device they created to help them surf the multiverse. Later when the Atlanteans found out they attempted to regain the device but he escaped through a door before they were able to capture him. This facility was built while batting him as years passed, across every planet, every universe, every reality. The damage was great. Only ending after the Atlanteans found human children and their Digimon were able to battle Bugendaimon better than ever before, better than any technology they had tried. They began to research this in hidden facilities over the multiverses, finding the strongest, they figured out Digimon responded considerably better to human's emotions much better making them much stronger. They developed a technology in their digital world's programming, one that would identify a child and their strongest traits and attempt to assign them a soulmate that would compliment their strongest trait as well as a device to link them. Once they perfected the technology they were able to implement it into every multiverse digital world. Then they began working on a technology to increase the connection of the humans to their partners, exponentially expanding their power. They combined the forces of 12 realities in the final battle, adding to their's and their allies, each reality using their strongest, the Atlanteans' technology gave them almost unlimited power, they merged with their Digimon to become the ultimate fighters. They slaughtered Bugendaimon's makeshift army, and finally after decades of fighting they could take the final battle to Bugendaimon himself. It was a difficult and arduous battle, but the children prevailed in the end. The Atlanteans swooped in when he was weak and the evil was sealed in a barren reality, a small pocket universe, this universe that bordered too close to the void and his powers constantly drained as it took everything for him to not let the universe fall into the void."
"Bugendaimon, that's what Koushiro said was the name of the Digimon who attacked them, sent Daisuke away, and damaged the universes. If he's that bad we have a big problem." Gennai said looking at Ryo.
"None of this sounds good. Can it help us?" Ryo asked.
"What can we do if Bugendaimon has been freed?" Gennai asked.
The "computer" stood there, loading it seemed, "follow me." It turned and one of the hallways lit up endlessly it seemed. It began down that hall.
As they followed Ryo asked, "do you think this is legit? Like this is outlandish. Atlanteans, ancient Digimon, ascension... Myths in the real world."
"The Digital World was a myth to you once too." Gennai smiled.
..
..The Doctor's Whoniverse
..
The Doctor walked around, looking at every screen. 'I've adjusted the shields to harmonize with the event horizon. Added dampers, programmed the computers, and added a few more fail safes... I think she's ready.' He walked over the bridge to the door, it opened as he got close. He could see a wonderful nebula from the doorway, "couldn't leave without one more look at you beautiful. Stay just the way you are until I get back." He heard movement behind him.
She knew she was noticed, "who are you talking to?" Ruki asked. He simply stepped to the side and let her absorb the breathtaking view.
"This beautiful universe I call home. I was wishing her well until I return." He said with a smile.
"I...this view. It's incredible." She couldn't take her eyes off of it. He loved that.
"The Tardis has a way about her. She'll dig up the deepest secrets and the most passionate emotions." He smirked looking back out of the door.
She sighed, "that explains a few recent impulse decisions.." she said trailing off.
He looked back at her before giving a small chuckle and walking away.
"What's that laugh for? That wasn't funny..." Ruki's temper showed a little.
"Oh she may dig the emotions up but it's nothing you didn't already want subconsciously. You just needed a kick, she's good for a kick." He started pushing buttons. "It's time to get everyone up anyways, it's time to go. We're ready."
Ruki grumbled under her breath, "stupid ship doesn't know what I want." She turned and left to start waking the others.
..
Ruki stood at the door back in her room. She'd woken Miyuki who said she would get the others up. She watched as Daisuke slept in the bed. 'He's a cartoon... I'm not supposed to fall for him like this... What does this stupid ship know that I don't. Will you leave my emotions alone! I already miss everyone important to me... but... he makes it feel better. Like I can win. Like we will win. He makes me feel happy, he makes me feel strong. Is it real?' She was so deep in thought she didn't notice his eyes open.
"Are you just gonna stare at me in the dark like a creeper?" He said, he watched her jump coming back to earth from the jolt.
"You jerk, I was thinking and you threw me off!" She grumbled, walking into his view.
"What were you thinking?" He asked, sitting up.
"..." she didn't know what to say, she was glad it was dark, he couldn't see her sad face.
Daisuke broke the silence. "Come on, you can't trust me still, even after-"
She cut him off, "shut up! Look. I don't... I'm not mushy."
"I mean-" He tried to make a joke.
"Again, shut up goggles squared, this isn't easy." She cut him off first.
"Fine." He stopped picking and let her say what she wanted.
"I don't know what this is, I don't know why I feel this connection to you like this. You're a cartoon-" she starter.
"But-" He didn't say much.
"Shush, I know, but in my universe you are, I have to go home still. I can't fall... she couldn't bring herself to say it.
"If you fall for me you don't know how you'll leave you friends and family?" He asked.
"..." He didn't have to see her face to know the look she was making, he could feel it.
He smiled, "that's easy to fix, you leave and I'll go with you, I don't think I-"
"But you already said it, you have your own family and friends Daisuke a real life, a home. I'm not letting you do that. This can't happen, even if it is real... It's still only fleeting, we both have to go home. We can't do this again." She closed her eyes, "get dressed, everyone else is getting ready too." She turned and started out of the door before he could stop her.
"Wait-" he protested trying to jump out of bed.
She didn't wait, the door opened and closed and he was left standing there in his boxers, confused.
'I'm not giving up that easily.' He thought to himself as he turned to get dressed.
..
Hikari and Takeru were just finishing getting dressed, Takuma had come by to get them up. They left their room and started down the hallway, Hikari watched Ruki quickly pass.
"He-" She didn't even acknowledge them, she just stormed past.
"What's with her I wonder?" Takeru asked.
"She looked like she had tears in her eyes." Hikari said, they both looked at each other before they started making their way to the bridge.
..
As Catherine and Michael walked onto the bridge the Doctor said, "that's everyone. Now, it's probably going to be a bumpy ride. I don't know where we're going or what it will look like. For the most part I should be ready for anything. You kids are the best backup a Time Lord could ask for too. So when we do get wherever we're going, do not leave until we're sure everything is safe. Everyone got it? No running off, don't cause trouble, and don't touch anything you shouldn't!" He told them all. Who all nodded or audibly acknowledged him.
"Now Ruki, if you're ready everything else is ready." The Doctor told her.
"I'm ready as I'll ever be I guess." She looked at Daisuke across from her, her heart hurt.
She walked to the open door alone, she closed her eyes and concentrated on that feeling. It was harder but she could feel it still. Daisuke suddenly grabbed her hand.
"But-" She started.
"Just concentrate, don't worry about that." He told her quietly, just looking forward.
She squeezed and closed her eyes, concentrating on the feeling, the feeling that demanded the door open, she felt it so much stronger with him. She let it flow out and the door opened. Smooth, glassy, and purple tinted.
"Alright! Here we go!" The Doctor shouted. "Hmm."
"That definitely doesn't fit that face." River picked from behind him.
"You're right... Geroni- no no that's not it either..." he thought for a moment before it finally sparked.
"Oh, that's it!" He smiled, "alright everyone, Allons-Y!"
"Allons-Y!" Catherine yelled with him, everyone looked at her. "It means let's go." She told them, they all laughed a little as the Tardis engines started invading their ears.
The engines roared and the ship suddenly took off to the gate as Ruki concentrated and Daisuke held on to her and the ship as it flew. It made contact, Daisuke expected it to bog or some sort of hesitation but the Tardis dropped in like a rock dropped in a pond.
The shields crackled. Ruki kneeled, feeling drained, but stuck looking out, the others stared as well.
The Doctor noticed, "I've only seen the outside of the universes a few times, the space between the multiverse is a chaotic place." He told them, a huge crackle of energy flew through the air.
The Tardis barreled towards another universe, the gravity suddenly was enormous. Everyone was almost forced to their knees, a few groaning out loud before the doctor corrected the issue.
"Sorry, I always forget how much the gravity affects her on reentry. But it's not like I do this everyday." He said as they blasted right into the next universe, straight into the Milky Way and to Earth
As they neared the beautiful blue and green planet the Tardis decided she needed a nap. Or some other problem. It instantly shut down and they began to free fall.
The girls screamed, River laughed, the Doctor scrambled. Fire engulfed the shields as the Tardis raced towards the ground.
"What's wrong!" Daisuke asked, holding on a railing and Ruki's hand.
"Hold on!" The Doctor shouted.
"There's not gonna be anything left to hold onto in a minute!" Ruki said watching the green of Earth speed dangerously into view.
"Doctor, do you need my help?" River asked.
'How is she smiling?!' Hikari could barely think about that as her breathing continued increasing to almost hyperventilation.
As the ground came dashing sickeningly into view the engines suddenly fired, the g-forces instantly battling inside their stomachs as the Tardis attempted to stop.
Everyone yelled, screamed, and groaned as the Tardis crashed to the ground, much slower but still with tremendous force.
..
..??
..
A teenage boy sat in a tree, playing on his phone, 'no one wants to patrol with me, fine. Just because it's been quiet for over a year doesn't mean something won't happen. We need to stay-' he suddenly stopped as his phone chirped and a voice was heard.
"Engine 3 out of service, scheduled break."
"Acknowledged engine 3."
The phone went quiet after his police and fire rescue app stopped its activity.
He sighed and yelled, "something needs to happen already!" Suddenly a sonic boom immediately knocked him out of the tree and he yelped.
As he scrambled back to his feet he spotted a fireball in the air, 'it must've been that.'
"Ask and you'll receive I guess." He laughed as it dropped to the Earth, he watched it scream across the night sky. He took off after it, over vines, under downed trees, he just ran. Looking up here and there to make sure he was going the right way still.
It started to make a strange noise and it's free fall slowed some before it hit the ground finally, with enough force he felt it in his feet, the trees even bent in the wind it forced out.
He sped up his pace as he pulled out his phone and picked the recent caller Sister.
It began to ring, and ring, "come on, I know you felt that, pick up!"
"What was that?" The boy smiled.
"Told you, I'm sharing my location I'm headed to it, it was something that came speeding from space, it wasn't a meteor either it was blue and square." He told her.
"I'm on the way Dipper!" She told him as she hung up, he hurried towards the crash.

To be continued
