Sasuke got into his fighting stance, ready to face the enemy. He was only anxious of all the other jutsus and "tricks" his opponent might have up his sleeve. The Leaf Anbu who were by now fighting the Ame shinobi, glanced back to find Sasuke fighting with Arashi, but their hands were tied, they couldn't do much as they had to fight the other Ame shinobi. The Anbu were just confident that Sasuke can handle the leader of Amegakure on his own, otherwise they won't think twice before rushing to his aid.
Sasuke and Arashi exchanged blows and attacks, both were skilled swordsmen, and this battle put a test to their mastery of the sword. Sasuke's kusanagi which was a single-edged sword, though may not looking like it, was a rather flexible blade, being able to be divided from the center and joining back as nothing had happened. Not only that, the sword also allowed for multiple types of attacks, no wonder Orochimaru himself used it. It was because of this flexibility that Sasuke had an upper hand in the fight. Sasuke had till now expertly observed Arashi's fighting style, he was not very quick with his moves. Instead, relying on overwhelming the opponent with numbers through multiple clones, both shadow and elemental. Sasuke also observed how Arashi had an amazing ability to withstand the most powerful of attacks, his opponent was a lean man, and Sasuke seeing him able to absorb or even survive several dragon ball jutsus was surprising.
The drizzle that had been going on for some time now, turned into a heavy downpour again. The Sun had set, and the moonlight was blockaded over by thunderous clouds. Sasuke's vision was limited due to the lack of light and the light fog that covered the entire Rain village. Taking advantage of this, Arashi signaled something to his men, who in turn started going into the direction Naruto and his guard had went. The Leaf Anbu chased after them, thinking they were going after the Hokage. Soon both the Ame shinobi and Anbu team were a fair distance away from the site where Arashi and Sasuke battled, roughly on the outskirts. Upon getting outside the village, the Ame shinobi reengaged in combat. It took a moment for the Anbu leader to realize the situation, but now there was no turning back. Being in unfavorable circumstances, the Leader could either choose retreat into the forests and rejoin the Hokage's convoy with heavy risks of casualties while fleeing, or fight here to the death. The Anbu captain chose the latter.
Between Sasuke and Arashi on the other hand, there was a brief moment of quietness. There was no clanging sounds of swords or groans, neither were there the shouting of different Jutsu names. There was only a faint sound of moving and gurgling water, which suggested the area was surrounded by deep water. The rain droplets landed on the water, creating splashing sounds, it felt as if the water was rising second-by-second. Both shinobi could only see as far as their hands stretched, the rest was a blurry and foggy view. Through the thick fog, both people could see faint silhouettes of each other, but avoided making any move as it was impossible to predict the other's counter-measure.
Arashi broke the silence,
"This is getting boring, Lord Uchiha, let's make it a bit interesting."
Sasuke became very alert the second these words reached his ears, Arashi was about to pull something.
"Don't worry, Sasuke Uchiha, I am not trying another attack. I will only be making things a little amusing." As Arashi said so, Sasuke could see his enemies silhouette draw out its blade and carry it behind him. It dipped its sword into the water, a faint splashing sound came. And all of a sudden the surrounding area was alight, the water, precisely. Sasuke could see Lightning chakra coursing through the water, lighting the liquid. The sound of the chakra was sharp and piercing, the same as electricity. Because of the lightning chakra, Sasuke could now clearly see his opponent. Arashi's special mask made it impossible to use genjutsu on him or predict his movements through the Sharingan, Sasuke had to rely solely on his experience from all these years to predict his moves, which was very hard.
"Very well then, if you want so, lets make it 'interesting'." Sasuke slightly grinned and joined his hands, a small pillar rose up from the middle of the platform where Sasuke and Arashi stood. The pillar was approximately half the height of both Sasuke and Arashi. Sasuke activated his Mangekyo sharingan for a second and then, the eternal flames of the Amaterasu were alight on top of the pillar, lighting up the remaining area as well. The heat of the black flames was so intense the top brown pillar already turned black a moment thereafter. Arashi chuckled upon Sasuke's act, and also readied himself for the fight.
The swords clanged and met each other in the rain, the two warriors battled each other. Sasuke and Arashi dueled for some time, when Sasuke committed a blunder and nearly fell in the water. Arashi grinned from behind his mask and warned Sasuke,
"Careful, Lord Uchiha, the water in infested with Lightning chakra. So if any one of us falls in there, it's game over."
"Thanks for the advise." Sasuke replied softly, and weaved one hand sign after another in quick succession. A second later Sasuke's voice was heard again,
"Fire release: Fire Dragon bullet." As Sasuke said so, fire chakra exited his mouth in the form of a loose straight line. The Fire chakra travelled at great speed, about to hit Arashi a split second later. But the latter wasn't the leader of Amegakure for no reason; a wall emerged in front of the Arashi made up of water chakra, the fire chakra was neutralized. Sasuke continued his attacks, performing a fireball jutsu, great fireball jutsu, and flame bullet one after another. But Arashi's barrier jutsu wasn't even damaged. Sasuke was, by now, panting. Arashi, seeing his opponent exhausted, captured the moment and decided to attack; Arashi folds his hands in a cross pattern, Wind chakra can be seen around his hands. Then, he waves his hands backwards at great speed, and bullet-like wind chakra rushes at great speed towards Sasuke, almost imperceptible to the common eye, but Sasuke had the sharingan. The latter, seeing no way of winning the fight, activates the torso of his susanoo for a second to defend against the attacks, the purple figure of the Susanoo appears instantly and blocks the wind chakra.. After that, Sasuke weaves some hand signs and performs the fire release: great flame technique; Sasuke puts his hands down to the ground, and great pillars of fire chakra emerge in the surrounding area. The specialty of this jutsu is that it is intense and hot enough to evaporate water chakra, and because of this technique the water around Sasuke and Arashi that was filled with lightning chakra, evaporates away. In the middle of the steam, when Arashi was unable to see anything, Sasuke swiftly escapes, jumping backwards to the ruined building behind and running a fair distance away from Arashi before making his way to the direction the Hokage and his party went. Their work was to merely distract while the Hokage escapes; now their task is done so there is no reason to fight and risk defeat. Arashi remains calm, but he is thoroughly disappointed in himself to let his target escape, but now, Amegakure must prepare; for war with Konoha was now inevitable; that they had attempted an attack on the Hokage, while Amegakure was to be rebuilt at the same time. Thinking this, Arashi walks away from the former battlefield and makes his way to his men.
