AN: With the writers strike going on as well as those Dr. Han memes I'm tired of seeing, I decided to write some fluffy Shea scenes that we didn't get in Season 6. This first chapter takes place right after the episode, "Afterparty".
Summary: The first day after their wedding, Shaun and Lea wonder what their exes are doing.
It had been a long night for everyone at the hospital due to Dr. Lim and Nurse Villanueva's stabbings, the shooting, the lockdown, the hostage situation, and Shaun's meltdown during the surgery where Jerome had to carry him out of the OR. Although both Lim and Villanueva were going to be okay physically, Lim was probably going to be paralyzed permanently. Not to mention all of the emotional trauma they would be dealing with soon.
It was now 8:00 in the morning and because Shaun and Lea hadn't had anything to eat since their reception and were in no mood to cook right now, they decided to stop by IHOP for breakfast pancakes.
In Shaun's opinion, IHOP's pancakes were not as good as the ones he and Lea liked to make at home.
"So, what are we going to do when we get home?" Lea asked indecisively. This was supposed to be their so-called honeymoon, but after everything that happened last night, it was going to be hard to enjoy it given that Shaun had a vision of his brother. "Should we have some post-marital sex?"
"No," replied Shaun after he swallowed a piece of his chocolate chip pancakes. "I think we should just watch a movie and go to sleep."
"Okay," Lea nodded nervously. "I would like that."
"A movie would be a good distraction."
Once Shaun and Lea got home, they immediately dressed out of their formal clothes and into their casual pajamas and plopped themselves onto the couch.
"So, what kind of movie should we watch? Thriller, horror, romance, sci-fi, drama, comedy?" Lea suggested.
"Mm," hummed Shaun, turning on the TV as he wrapped his arm around his wife. "We should watch a comedy. Something funny would be a good distraction from everything that just happened."
After scrolling through Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and every other streaming site in their feed, they eventually agreed on Office Space and popped some popcorn.
Once the movie was over, the newlywed couple just relaxed into each other's embrace for a bit until Lea decided that she should probably make a call to her parents, brother, and other relatives and inform them that she and Shaun are now officially married.
By the time of nightfall and after pizza for dinner and a relaxing sexless shower together, Shaun and Lea were snuggled up together in their queen-size bed.
"Being married feels nice," Shaun chuckled softly as Lea nestled up against his chest, feeling his heartbeat.
"It really does," bubbled Lea as she ran a finger across her husband's chest, circling her fingers around his nipple over his shirt. "It's hard to believe that we're finally married."
Her lips then met his, her hand reaching upward to stroke his hair. After a few seconds, they broke away.
"Did you feel the same with Ben the night you married him?" Shaun asked curiously.
Her ex-husband was a topic that didn't come up between the two of them very often, even during their era of wedding planning.
"We felt some bliss for a very short moment that night, but then we both kind of regretted it not long after," answered Lea. "I fumbled over our vows and even after we said 'I do' and left to go to the bed and breakfast our parents rented for us near Hersheypark, I had feelings of regret. Not even having fun at Hersheypark or even having sex or a romantic movie eased those regrets."
"And things would only get worse," Shaun added on.
"Exactly," Lea clicked her tongue before she gave Shaun a kiss on the cheek, almost rolling over on top of him. "But with you, it feels different. Because this time, we were ready."
"And it is also good to know that Ben also eventually settled down when he was ready, too," sighed Lea contentedly. "He lives in Newark, and he just celebrated his fifth wedding anniversary with his wife, and they just recently welcomed their second child."
"If you haven't thought about him in years, how do you know what is going on in his life?" Shaun asked, wondering if Lea had secretly been keeping in touch with him.
"I looked him up on Facebook and Instagram the other day," explained Lea with a chuckle. "Sometimes, I like to look up old acquaintances from high school or college."
"That's unnerving," shuddered Shaun, sitting up with Lea against the pillows of their bed.
"Do you sometimes wonder what your old acquaintances are doing now?" Lea queried. "Some of the people I look up are even people I hated and still despise to this day, even Amanda Hinkhouse."
"Your worst enemy in high school?"
"Yep. Her entire Facebook feed is full of pro-Trump and Qanon shit," scoffed Lea, although that fact didn't surprise her. "She also just did a dangerous gender reveal stunt."
"I have no interest in what Colleen Myers and Matt Litchfield are doing," Shaun shared, not wanting to think about some of his childhood bullies. "Even if they could have changed for the better. But now that you mentioned your ex-husband, I do wonder how Carly is doing."
Shaun hadn't thought about Carly since they broke up. The last time he even spoke to her was when she helped him perform that autopsy. Then, a couple of weeks later and right before the earthquake, she moved to Atlanta after getting a job offer at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
She and Shaun have had no contact ever since.
"Do you want me to look her up?" Lea offered.
"Yes," decided Shaun.
Lea typed in the words 'Carly Lever' into the search box on Facebook, and it wasn't hard to find her. She had just gotten married, and they were expecting a baby girl in four months.
"You know, it's weird that we're talking about our exes on our honeymoon," backtracked Lea.
"Do you want to stop talking about Ben and Carly?" Shaun contended.
"Yes. I think we should. It's our honeymoon, remember?"
"Yes, it is," chortled Shaun. "Would you like to have sex?"
Lea let out an excited giggle before giving an answer. "Yes."
