Chapter 1
Jazmine had thought that her friends would have realized by now that she was not a party girl; crowds made her dizzy, alcohol practically tasted like gasoline to her, and loud music gave her headaches that lasted days.
So why was she here sitting on the edge of the swimming pool of a frat house nursing a migraine and a cup of the same shitty beer she had all night with her feet taking a bath in the lukewarm water? Oh yeah Cindy dragged her there. As soon as she stepped on campus she had quickly gravitated to the party scene and apparently she wanted to share that enthusiasm with Jazmine.
"Oh c'mon Jazzy let loose just this once!"
"You know freshmen almost never get invited to parties like this."
"It's your first party in college, the big C; you can't miss out on it!"
"The guy who invited me definately has a thing for me, I'm pretty sure I can hook you up with some cute guy."
Jazmine had finally agreed after hours on end of begging and pleading and the promise that unlike every other time Cindy wouldn't abandon her to fend for herself, a promise which Cindy had promptly forgotten as she got her first taste of beer disappearing into the crowd of drunk and coked up white kids.
Jazmine looked down at her phone again, her 13 messages to Cindy all still unread and her headache worsened, the thought of texting Octavia had run through her head before she realized that Octavia would be working like any other normal and well adjusted person would be doing on a monday night. It seemed like she would be alone again.
While she was busy wallowing taking a tepid sip of her god awful beer she suddenly felt a tingle run up her back as something no…someone moved eerily quiet from behind; the hairs on her back stood up as if her mind had regressed to her base caveman brain and a predator was lurking behind her waiting to eat her. She slowly turned around coming face to face with, not the legs of a tiger or a panther or whatever thing he brain had conjured up but instead tan cargo pants, she looked up further to see an oversized white sweater then finally landing on his face, a very handsome face which was slightly marred by a scowling expression, on top of his head stood a large pronounced afro, the stranger glanced down at her and she quickly looked away she didn't want to get on anyone's bad side much less this guy who looked like anyone's existence was a personal slight against him plus it was for the best her neck was starting to hurt from looking up so far, how tall was he anyway? 6'3? 6'4?
"You like staring a lot don't you?" He spoke suddenly, his voice fit his face, deep, raspy, terse and oh so masculine, the words themself were mocking with a tense edge but she couldn't help the slight red blush that graced her cheeks and ears.
Tightly clenching her hands together until her nails dug into her palms, a nasty habit she had picked up, she quietly uttered a meek apology
"Speak up." The strictness in his voice made her unconsciously sit up straight, it felt like she was back in Boarding School with the stuffy uniforms and scowling teachers, she half expected him to have a ruler up and ready to hit her knuckles if she misbehaved…she squeezed her thighs tightly together at the thought of that, her face burning a shade brighter.
Feeling his eyes burning a hole on the top of her head she, for a split second had thought that he read her less than pg13 thoughts about him and she almost wanted to die of embarrassment. She tried to speak again eager to end the strange silence on her part.
"I-I-"
"Stop stammering." He interrupted again, Jazmine actually felt tears well up in her eyes this time, legit and actual tears. Cindy was in there enjoying the party and Octavia was being an actual adult with adult responsibilities and here she was getting scolded by some random guy because she looked at him!
The tears welled up in her eyes and began to fall and to Jazmine's dismay, she quickly tried to wipe them away but the tears continued to fall.
"Are you crying?" His tone spelled out his utter disbelief
"What?! No!," she wiped at her face even harder, "I just got something in my eye thats all."
He sighed, shoving his hands into his pocket "Great, got to deal with a sad white girl."
At that Jazmine cried harder "I'm not white!" tugging slightly at her currently pin straight ginger locks, a far cry from her usual bountiful curls, Cindy had her in the boutique for hours to get this look even commenting "It's giving Ice Spice." which coming from Cindy is the highest compliment she could give, it was practically being likened to Sandro Botticelli's The Birth of Venus.
Her crying was cut short as her head was abruptly pulled back her hair firmly clasped in his large calloused grip, the action was so sudden Jazmine let out a faint gasp her own hands clutching the hand that grasped her hairs, struggling her jade eyes met maroon as the stranger stared down at her, she stopped struggling and they sat in strange silence as they both intensively studied each other's face, he checking her features to try and find a verdict and she imprinting the smallest details of his face into her mind. By God she had never met such a pretty man in her life, she had only caught a glimpse of him before but now as his face was close to hers she admired his angled and almost feline features. He could have been a model for Prada or YSL and all the other classy brands where people only wore oversized black coats and thin glasses although it should be considered a crime to cover up his pretty and unique eyes. Brown with red, less auburn and more wine.
"Oh shit you are black, my bad." He finally said letting go of her hair casually going back to his regular stance, hands firmly in pocket.
"I'm not black either just so you know, I'm biracial." She combed her fingers through her hair trying to get back its original pin straight form.
He snorted "Oh you're one of those."
"One of those?" She questioned gaining some confidence to look up at him, he was looking ahead at the almost full moon shrouded by dark wispy clouds.
"The Logic slam poetry niggas," he explained, " 'I was too white for the black kids and too black for the kids' those corny ass dudes. You sound just like them."
"Do you just insult all the random strangers you meet?"
"You started crying in front of me for no reason. I get the right to insult you." He snorted, Jazmine liked to think that it was a precursor to what an actual laugh of his would sound like, crisp, mean and sexy.
"For no reason? You were yelling at me!"
"Never raised my voice once." He said matter of factly
"Well you gave the illusion of yelling."
"...that is the dumbest shit I've ever heard."
"See! You talk like you're a dad or a professor or something, you sound like someone with a lot of power," she clarified, "and whenever people like that yell or insinuate yelling I can't help but cry."
It was silent for a small while before the handsome stranger spoke again
"That sounds sexual."
"It does not!"
"It sounds like some psychosexual Freudian shit-"
"Please!," she shrieked, jumping up from the edge of the pool, dropping her cup, her hands covering his mouth in one clean motion, "please stop talking."
Another pregnant pause filled the air as the two of them looked at each other, it was broken by her ringtone, the sound of Twice's Yes or Yes echoed through the area of the empty pool and Jazmine wished with all her heart that she could slap the crap out of her past self especially as his brows raised themselves nearly to his hairline and his eyes filled with a mocking humor. No doubt bubblegum K-pop wasn't making his impression of her any better.
Not like she cared about his opinion anyway.
She dropped her hands from his mouth and checked her phone. It was Cindy.
Thank God
She answers.
"Heeeeeey Jazzy!." Her slurred words made Jazmine tense up.
Oh great she was drunk
"Cindy are you ok?"
"No duh! I - Tyler stop playing I'm on the phone!"
Jazmine rubbed her temple as the faded headache came back in full force
"Cindy please focus, I really want to leave this place right now so where are you?"
"Oh yeah right right right right about that," oh no, "I kinda sorta already left."
"What?!"
"Don't get mad at me Tyler was telling me about his dad's penthouse and it has its pool. A pool! Can you believe it?"
"No," she gritted out, "I cannot believe that."
"See I knew you would understand, gotta go, the fun awaits!" Then she hung up and Jazmine was overcome with the urge to throw her phone as hard and as fast as she could, but that was expensive so she settled on screaming instead.
It was more of a shriek, shrill and loud resembling what a person would think a chicken getting choked out would sound like.
Sinking to her knees her shriek became a sad groan, she should have expected that Cindy had never been known for her steadfastness and reliability but she had never ditched Jazmine before.
"You alright there Mariah?"
He was still there. Great.
"Ah yeah I just got ditched by my ride so I'm just fine."
"Oh…that sucks."
Her eyebrow twitched "That's all?"
"What's all?"
"That's all you're going to say?!" She snapped her head around to glare at him
He paused for a second, "Yes."
"Unbelievable."
"Hey Mariah I don't know you, what else can I say?"
"For some reason I think you're even more awful to the people you actually know." She said standing up and rubbing the knees of her brand new acid wash jeans. Poor him, he didn't deserve this crappy night and neither did she.
"Lots of assumptions there."
"You've assumed a lot about me." She stated matter a factly
"And I was right about those assumptions."
"Well so was I."
Silence ensued and she took that as a win on her part
"Did you drive here?" She asked offhandedly
"What?"
"Did you drive here? You know with a car?"
"I know what people drive and yes I did, why are you asking?"
She looked at him straight faced, back straightened and eyes level before bursting out her biggest and warmest smile, her eyes shone with pure sweet joy that could only be found on puppies begging their owner for a treat. "Can you drive me home?"
My first fanfiction (at least on here) kind of excited even though this took weeks to make, procrastination really is a bitch. Rushed it in the end hope you don't mind too much, better this than nothing at all I guess.
I hope those who found this enjoy it, don't really have a updating schedule and I don't really have a good record of these kinds of things but I will try my best because I truly get how irritating it can be as the reader.
Hope you liked it.
P.S there will be OCs but don't worry they will not be ruining your favorite ships at least not in the traditional way. So just a heads up if you don't like that thing.
