Melinda sat in her room as she started to organize her belongings. She didn't know what upsetted her the most; that her family immediately said no or that her parents didn't even come up to her room right after she orbed out. Melinda glanced at her clock on the ceiling and saw that it was already almost a half hour since she's been up there. A slow warm burning anger filled her chest as she wanted to scream out in frustration about them. Right when she took a deep breath in, a gentle knock came at the door.
"Sweetie?"
"Go away," Melinda mumbled.
"Honey, you have to understand why we are worried about you fighting demons with your brothers," her father tried.
Melinda turned to look at them both, noticing that they both changed their clothes into something more "demon fighting appropriate", she scoffed, "Wyatt was 14 years old when he went on his first demon hunt and Chris 16"
"Wyatt is twice-blessed" Piper explained, "Demons were coming after him his whole life and he has more powers than any of us-"
"Still, letting a 14 year old go on his own, I'd understand" Melinda cut her mother off, "But not letting me? I'm almost an adult, one of the oldest kids in my generation and they all have gone on demon hunting but me"
Piper inhaled and turned to Leo as they looked as if they were having a private conversation with their eyes. Melinda rolled her own eyes and turned away from them. She's had this conversation so many times that she already knew what they were going to say even before they knew themselves.
"We'll deal with this one" Leo began.
"And we'll talk about the next one after" Melinda finished his sentence.
Melinda's parents both hesitated before Piper said, "I promise"
Melinda wasn't pleased as she stared at her parents before they awkwardly left her room.
"Wyatt, Chris, let's go!" Piper could be heard as her voice descended down.
Melinda was so angry that she thought she could burst into tears from being held back. It was embarrassing, hearing from her youngest cousins how they were doing a trio of demon fighting when she was only doing spells and potions. Every year they asked if Melinda had gone to her first demon hunt and every year she'd say no. The look of shock and disappointment on their faces was more than enough for Melinda to resent her parents even more. She couldn't live with that anymore.
Her legs had an idea before her brain did as it quickly went over to her parents room as she scanned the area with her eyes. They rested on her mother's shawl that she liked to wear around the house as Melinda snatched it and started to run upstairs. Melinda was thankful that her brothers never enjoyed cleaning, especially in between demons because the scrying table was already set up.
Melinda wrapped the chain around her mothers shawl as she circled it around San Francisco.
"If you don't believe in me then I guess I'll just have to show you" Melinda said to nobody in particular.
She was tired of being left out of all of this part of her family's lifestyle. It was probably just as bad as binding her powers. Melinda would probably even prefer that but she already knew it wouldn't satisfy her for long, now that Henry Jr is getting in on the action. He was mortal, true, but Uncle Henry and Aunt Phoebe had been training him in combat so he wouldn't be picked on for being the only mortal of the Charmed Ones children.
The crystal swung itself in a wider circle before it hit on a park on the other side of the golden state bridge. Melinda smiled to herself as a thrill of excitement surrounded her.
"Gotcha"
Melinda turned and went to her cabinet full of potions, always stocked to the rim since she had nothing else to do. Both Chris and Wyatt's cabinets were practically empty and even then, she wouldn't trust her brother's potions with her life. Christ was a terrible cook so she could only imagine how potent his potions were.
She took a sack from a drawer and filled it with her most powerful potions before turning, closing her eyes and orbing to where it said her mother was.
"Son of a bitch!"
Melinda stifled a gasp as she opened her eyes in a cave. She quickly ducked off to the side as she saw her family lined up on one side and a demon on the other. He looked old, ancient almost as if he wasn't from this time. Which explained why Chris and Leo were already on the floor, struggling to get up as he let out a demonic laugh. Piper didn't seem to enjoy this as she brushed her hair away from her face.
Together, Wyatt and Piper both did their respective powers on this new demon. Piper tried blowing him up but the demon only staggered a bit as Wyatt tried to hit him with what he called a solar wave but the demon wrapped it in a ball and thrust it back to them. Melinda gasped as Wyatt waved his hand and orbed everyone out before the wave could hit them. Melinda let out a breath of relief before she realized that it echoed in the cave.
It caught the demon's attention as it looked up and started to sniff the air, all of a sudden, hungry for new blood. Melinda swallowed as she started to regret her decision of following her family to this new demon's lair and she realized that they weren't coming back. Melinda kept her eye on the demon as she moved herself back further into the cave so that she could orb out.
But when she turned around, the demon was standing right in front of her. She dropped her satchel as the demon grabbed her throat and pulled her closer to him as he sniffed her skin.
He then let out a low chuckle as Melinda struggled to breathe under his grasp.
"Anastasia…"
