I found my way back to the car, putting one foot in front of the other, stepping through the dense fog of my grief. When I climbed inside and locked the door, I crumbled, fat tears rolled down my cheeks.
She was gone. I knew it was temporary, but still it hurt like hell. The woman I grew to love with all my heart during the last ten days was flying away from me. It felt like a big part of my heart was being sliced away with a dull knife, each cutting stroke echoed in my chest.
She's gone, she's gone, she's gone.
I dropped my head on the wheel, my body shaking from the sobs.
