Chapter 2
"Ginjirō-"
"I'm not telling you until we get there. Be patient."
Kei let out a little huff and continued to follow her Lieutenant. When he talked about her gaining Shikai, she assumed he would train her. Not that his advice had lead to any changes over the last several years. Instead he lead her to one place she hated.
Division 11.
The only think Kei appreciated from Division 11 was that they didn't play games. Every member saw her as weak and pathetic and made it clear. Other than that, she found them to mostly be crude, impolite and condescending.
"They hate me."
"You're being dramatic."
Kei let out a little huff as she followed. She wouldn't even look up at the division member they passed, for fear of getting into a fight. It wasn't unheard of. Her and Division 11's third seat had to sit on opposite side of the rooms during larger officer meeting.
Kei paused as Ginjirō stopped walking. They stood at the edge of a large open space for the Division. Only a handful of officers were there; a few she knew and one she didn't. Ikkaku looked their way first before frowning.
"You're late," snapped Ikkaku Madarame, Third Seat of the division. "And why'd you bring the brat along."
"Told you", muttered Kei, glaring at the bald man as he sneered at her. She just glared back.
Ginjirō ruffled her hair and ignored her comment.
"You're going to help train her."
"Perhaps she should train with Rangiku instead," mocked Yumichika Ayasegawa. "If she's going to be weak, she should could be prettier."
"You'd know about being a pretty face and weak," mocked Kei. Ginjirō sighed as Yumichika froze and Ikkaku burst out laughing.
Kei just crossed her arms and glared as Ikkaku and Yumichika started to argue. She knew she wasn't spectacular to look at, but found herself pretty enough. She was average height with delicate features. No one's physique could rival Rangiku's, but Kei drew more attention than she liked when not with her friend. Her dark brown hair was always kept neat and her skin was light and clear. She almost pitied Yumichika for his limited views.
"Are one of you going to help her or not," barked Ginjirō, bored of the arguing.
"I will."
Kei turned to finally look at the red haired man she didn't recognize. She tensed a little and watched as he stepped a little closer. He was much taller than her with a sever widows peak to his hair and tattoos for eyebrows and running down his neck.
"And you are," questioned Ginjirō.
"Sixth Seat, Renji Abarai. It's nice to meet you Lieutenant."
Kei paused as Renji looked down at her. His expression remained neutral.
"Kei Saito," she replied. "I'm Division 6's Third Seat."
"Don't bother," yelled Ikkaku. Renji turned back to his superior officer. "What they aren't telling you is that she doesn't even have Shikai. Girl's the laughing stock of the Gotei 13."
"That's your hair line, Ikkaku," snapped Kei. Renji chocked back a laugh as Ikkaku's face contorted in rage. Ginjirō smacked her in the back of the head for that comment.
"I dare you to say that again," he growled.
Kei didn't say a word and turned away from Ikkaku. Her chest felt tight at mention of her Shikai.
"I'll give it a try anyways," spoke up Renji. Kei looked up as he glanced at her. "What's the worst that happens?"
