"I want you to absorb everything on top of this table" she ordered Clark while pointing at him with a stern but confident look on her face
"While I appreciate the gesture lady Eclair, there is no need for such thing, I can deal with the wave just fine by myself" Superman said, he was able to defeated any monster in this world with just a small amount of his sun energy with the exception being the Black Tyrano, but that was likely due to the level difference between the two. Now he was in the level 347 and that had drastically increased all of his stats aside from ATK to a new high, there wasn't a need for him to absorb materials and used other shields at the moment, Clark was more interested in gaining a shield to help healing injured citizens that were hurt during the attacks of the Waves
"I know that... but that type of thinking is exactly what will get you killed in the wave! You have shown power unlike anything ever describe in the books about the legendary heroes, but we can't afford comfort with the Waves of Calamity. So you will have to absorb every single monster you fight so that we can stay in front of the waves, I have gathered all of these materials for you to start with, they may not give good shields but I'm certain that one would give you a helpful ability, the abilities of a legendary weapon are still a mystery for us despite their existence being heavily cataloged. Only the cardinal hero can know what abilities each form has and we have no idea what will or will not give you a ability"
"Alright, you make a good point" Clark replied in agreement before absorbing the assortment of items

"I here by start the first gathering of the shield hero fanclub!" Rifana said as she was standing up in front of the two other members of the club for the moment, Keel and Raphtalia
"You couldn't come up with a cool name or something" Keel said as he found that name lame, they could call themselves something better like "the legion of the shield" or any other cool sounding name
"I think it works fine, plus Rifana put a lot of work into it" Raphtalia said as she thought the name was fitting for a simple small group of people that liked the shield hero, besides the Church of the Holy Shield already existed and they certainly were a much bigger group with a fitting name
"I'm honestly surprised she build this place all on her own" Raphtalia said as she was impressed that her best friend build this club house in a day and a half, she probably had help from a adult but if she didn't... she could honestly become a good carpenter if her skills were already on this level
"She could have done a better job..." Keel whispered as he found the makeshift club house pretty lacking as it was just a small room with nothing on it, there weren't even pillows for them to sit on so they had to sit in the the hard wood floor
"Now for our first gathering, let's discuss what we should do to celebrate the shield hero" Rifana said as this was going to be the first discussion of the club
"I don't think he is the type of guy that likes to be given gifts for saving people, he is really humble you know?"Raphtalia commented, from all she had seen from him, the man was humble to a truly divine degree, he not only has been helping them never asking for nothing in return
"That may be true but we have to show our gratitude to him in some way, if it wasn't for him we would still be under rapiers manor being his slaves" Rifana shot back, they were all eternally in debt with the shield hero for all the kindness he had given them, even bringing them a bunch of gold coins for them to use instead of keeping it to himself which was truly a saint's behavior
"He also brought lady Eclair back, although she hasn't been helping much as Lord Seaetto..." Keel mumored as he looked to the side "She spends most of her time training and if we can be honest here, she doesn't know the first thing about management" He pointed out, Eclair was leaving most of the lord duties to adults in the village that she trusted as she focused on training herself and some volunteers for in the case of a attack happening
"Neither do you or me, besides she was reset back to level 1 so it's only natural for her to want to go back to her old level" Raphtalia replied back, Eclair was definitely trying to help, she was trained as a knight not a lord, so it made sense that she was focusing on what she qualified best to do
"Can we focus here! we are supposed to be talking about the shield hero" Rifana called out, as the meeting had taken a different turn then what she expected
the next day
"what are doing standing still like that?" Raphtalia asked as she and Rifana had been getting stuff for the clubhouse before seeing the man of steel just standing in the middle of the plaza
"I'm waiting" Clark replied as he keep looking at the wave count down
"for what?" Rifana asked, what could he be waiting for? a thought came to her mind 'Oh no! what he is waiting for some handsome woman that's coming to meet him?! did he get a girlfriend or-'
"this wave timer to go down" superman said, cutting Rifana from her thoughts and putting her and Raphtalia in a panic
"there's a wave already coming!?" Rifana and Raphtalia both screamed out horrified, a wave was coming now?! what if it hits here again?! that would be the worst?!
"We have to hide we-"
"don't worry, it's not happening here in Melromarc" superman reassured the two, knowing that there was still a lingering trauma from the wave they experienced
"What?" Raphtalia said confused
"It's happening in Siltvelt and I'm going to stop it" Clark said as the wave was going to happen in a couple of seconds
"I... I... I don't want you to go..." Rifana said as tears began to form in her eyes at that notion
"...?" Clark look at her with a eyebrow raise before leaving out a sigh
"You have been doing so much for us and... helped us rebuild from... I don't want you to fight in that wave! what if you die? what if you get hurt beyond healing!... I just don't want-" rifana couldn't finish as superman was transported away to where the wave was happening, Rifana looked down to the ground saddened
"he's going to be fine" Raphtalia said as she put a hand over her best friend's shoulder to reassure her
"B-but-"
"Don't worry about him Rifana, he defeated that giant dragon and I'm sure that he will be careful against that wave" Raphtalia replied back before Rifana could say anything, after seeing some of the things the shield hero had done, a wave didn't seem like it would be trouble for him
"Let's go back to the club house, we can think of something to give him when he comes back" raphtalia said as they still had stuff to organize and they had to make sure Keel didn't broke anything by accident
"... sigh you're right" Rifana said as she just had to hope that the shield hero wouldn't have any complications during the fight with those monsters from the wave
--somewhere else in the village--
"Huh?" a demi human let out as he looked at something approaching from sea
"Is that..." he squinted his eyes to try and get a better picture of the object, once he recognized the silhouette in the front, the man was more than happy
"It is! call everyone! Sardina has returned!" villager shouted as he began to run back into the village to tell the others, Sardina had returned and she brought with her more of the citizens
"Is good to set foot back home once again" The orca lady said as she walked out if the boat, their village had been devastated by not only the wave but the attack of those slavers. It had burned houses destroyed beyond recognizing but now? it looked even better than before the wave had hit
"Sardina!" Keel spoke as he made his way through the crowd, eyes sparking with joy as he saw the coolest warrior if lurolona had finally come back
"Ah! if it isn't the young Keel, how have you been" Sardina replied as her biggest fan in the entire village seemed to be fine and well, she was happy with how the village was flourishing but she wasn't going to let this soften her guard, she needed to find Eclair and start building up some defenses around the town 'knowing that meat head of her's... she is probably training in the forest, leaving the villagers to manage everything themselves'
"Is great to have you back, I see you brought more villagers with you" Keel was happy to see that his idol was out there saving more of their people, the shield hero had already brought half of the citizens back and now Sardina had returned with six more. It wouldn't take long for their village to return to its former glory
"Will be going around the farm when he comes..." a frog demi-human happily sang as he attended the crops, making sure that the ground didn't had any insects trying to munch on the vegetables until a shadow appeears on top of him out of nowhere
"Huh?" he turns around to say why the sky began to darken but that's when he saw, cracks in the sky opening up with silhouettes of monstrosities falling down from it as the whole sky becomes red, it had begun... the wave of calamity was raining down upon his village and there was no hope of stopping it on sight, his mind began to imagine the many ways that those monstrosities would kill him
"Aaahh! is the wave!" the frog man screamed in panic, he wanted to run as far away as possible but his legs weren't responding to him out of fear but then... he heard a weird sound coming from behind him and in the corner of his eye he saw a bright light, the chill on his spine was immense and he turned his head to see what would kill him but instead... he saw a man, one wearing a blue suit that was skin tight along with a red cape and the single most important detail being the silver shield on his arm. It was the legendary shield of tales, the shield hero that was being talked about in all corners of Siltvelt was there... no longer there was fear in his body, only hope
"Shield hero!? You came to fight the wave! thank you!" the frog farmer shouted as he ran closer to the man of steel, all his worries having seemingly evaporated the moment he saw the legendary hero
It's okay now, please hide in your house or basement while I deal with this" superman advise the concerned farmer, it was best for anyone in this village to hide until the wave was over and it's monsters we're all dead
"Yes! Of course I w-" before he could finish, the man of steel has already left in supersonic speed in the direction of the of the village
"Ryaahg!" a skeleton shouts out as he and his group began marching towards the citizens of the village
"Everyone stand back!" a guard exclaimed to the villages running away from the monsters in complete horror and to be honest, he wanted to do that too. But it was his job to protect these citizens and he made a oath that he wouldn't back down from fighting for his people, he never saw this sort of thing before, walking skeletons marching towards him was the sort of thing he only saw in nightmares or in a fairy tail but now he was face to face with a undead monster that was staring him down with a empty look, the only sign of emotion came from the monsters red pupils made of energy but that only gave them a piercing stare of evil
"Raaah-" before the skeleton could even swing his blade into the guard, the monster seemly explodes into pieces as a blue streak passes through it's body. In a instance the various groups of skeletons around the village were all on the ground, their bodies separated in pieces as over 400 skeleton monsters are defeated in a single second
"Is everyone safe?" Superman asked the guard, the scared villagers all stopped their panic to look at him in utter disbelief, soft smiles appearing in their faces as theyaid eyes on his shield
"Oh my... Saint of the Shield! you truly came!" the guard was almost speechless, he didn't had any hope of stopping those skeletons on his own but their savior came and destroyed all of them in blink of a eye, he truly lived up to his reputation and the rumors around Siltvelt
"He is real! the rumors were true!" a demi human child cheers at the sight of the legendary hero, the rumors sounded like exaggeration at first but now they could see his true might, it would be a spectacular show of heroism they were about to witness
"We are safe now! our god is here!" a woman in the crowd began to happily cry while putting her hands together in a praying motion, she knew that their god would come to save them as he had been doing around the entire country of Siltvelt
"You need to take this people to safety, I can hold off the monster's of this wave by myself" superman told the guard in a calm demeanor, his first priority would be ensuring the citizens safety. If he was the Flash, it would be easy to relocate these people far away from the wave but he didn't have a connection to the speed force and as such the people he moved wouldn't be protected from the gravitational force of moving in the high speeds he was capable of achieving and withstanding
"O-of course! I'll motion everyone to the church's basement, may you slay this beasts with your holy strength" the guard responded and quickly moved the villagers out, they were sure that this wave wouldn't hurt them and that no one was going to die, their savior was here and that meant none of his followers would be taken by these demonical waves
"Right, now how should I stop this Wav-"
"Raargh!" the skeleton roared after hitting its punch in the back of superman's head, it didn't cause any damage but it caught superman's attention enough to turn his head around to see what it was, the skeleton took a back step and raised a proper fighting posture similar to a boxer
"How did you..." superman then sees the skeleton bodies scattered around the ground begin building themselves back together, most were even add other skeleton parts to create different anatomical bodies. Some were built like spiders, others had extra arms and some were forming into bigger versions of themselves, the man of steel fights them again and despite him making sure to crush their bones to dust, it seemed that only 12 of the skeletons stopped reviving. Using his high intelligent and rational thinking, superman uses his x ray vision to find their weak point which happened to be a red gem inside their much harder and resistant skull, but once he learns of this weakest, it's over for the monsters as they are instantly killed by a punch to the cranium
after crushing the red gems inside the skulls of every skeleton around the entire village, superman prepared for whatever would come next as a new round of monsters descent into the ground. This time the wave minions were large cyclops wearing purple and yellow armor that was visually similar to that of roman or greek soldiers in terms of design philosophy, their helmets having a hole for their single spiral horn to stick out, these troops were the size of three man and they carried with them large spike clubs made of wood and shields covered in bronze details
the second round of fighting began, despite this monsters being superior in every way compared to the immortal skeletons of before as only one of these cyclops was smarter, stronger and more resistant than 20 skeletons combined, they were nothing more than a warm up for Superman. His super speed was outpacing the monsters easily and a single punch of his was enough to kill any of the cyclops, in a matter of 1 minute, all the cyclops had been killed before any villager could be hurt or even be spotted by the large monsters. The trickiest part of this entire fight was killing the cyclops without causing damage to the buildings of the village, either by superman's own attacks or the dead cyclops falling on top of the houses and crushing it with it's weight.
superman stared to at the dead remains in the floor before he heard a roar so loud it would make any person deaf, he looked at the direction it came from and saw various skeletons and cyclops running to him but they were followed by a beast bigger than any of them. it's was a lion the size of a three stories tall building, it had huge black bat wings and a large scorpion tail pulsing a green liquid in the tip of its tail, it was a Manticore, superman remembered Diana mentioning fighting one and she said that their venom is more dangerous and toxic than nuclear waste. Suddenly a thing appeared on his status magic

taking no chances, superman fired his heat vision and at the creature and its minions, but while the skeletons and cyclops were cut and burned to pieces, the Manticore jumped high and opened its wings and continued it pursue for the man of steel. superman followed its lead and flew up to above the clouds and the Manticore followed him, the two briefly stared at each other before the beast began to shoot poison from its tail like a automatic gun, worrying for any civilian back down being hit by the poison falling to ground, he used his reliable heat vision to evaporate the projectiles.
the manticore continued its assault as it tackled the man of steel and tried to bite his head off, superman briefly struggled with holding the beast off before preparing to neutralize it with his heat vision, but before he could put a end to it, he felt a burning sensation on his leg and saw that the Manticore's tail was attempting to poison him, his super skin blocked and even broke the tip of it, but it seemed that the poison was still powerful enough to cause a irritation on any area it hit
thinking fast, he pushed the beast off himself and then punched it in the chest causing the creature to spit its blood in pain, despite this the monster tried to slash him with it's claws but superman catches the monster's pawn and to bring the monster down to the ground, he slammed the manticore into the beast own dead minions. The pain of such attack was immense and it had rendered the manticore's wings useless, even with all of that it wasn't enough to put the monster down. The Manticore keep on trying to attack superman despite it's entire body scream in pain, the monster's pride being too big for it to admit defeat, superman didn't even had to put in effort into dodging the attacks as the manticore's claw attacks were now slow and sloppy, the creature didn't had energy to continue fighting and yet it keeps trying to despite the crackling of its bones being audible even without super hearing.
"Let's end this" superman says before grabbing the monster's forehead, with one push the Manticore has its head ripped off it's neck swiftly with it's body falling into the ground dead

"I better check the villagers first, see if any were injured" superman went to do just that, his efforts in the wave made so that no one was lost by the interdimensional monsters with the except of two injured guards but their wounds were superficial. The villagers of the small town begged him to stay so that a party could be made in his honor and the lord of the village even offered his daughter in marriage to the shield hero, but he declined and went of to save more people around the world
"Raarggh..." a two headed dog let's out one last howling of pain before life disappeared from it's eyes, a spear piercing through it's chest as a large section of his lower body was cut off
"Too easy" Motoyasu proudly proclaimed as he stood over the dead wave monster, with just a single skill use of his the monster was down for the count, he didn't even need to pierce the monster's chest but he did so to look cooler in front of his girls
"I knew it was from the first wave but it only took a single poke for it to die, pretty pathetic" the spear hero mocks the dead monster for being weak despite it being a level 15 while he was in the level 37 and had much more power than this beast could ever dream of having
"Great job Motoyasu-sama!" Myne cheered him up from a far, she and the other girls didn't even need to get deeper to the mine to find this beast
"Thanks, now let's see what the spear from this monster will give me" Motoyasu begins absorbing the dead monster, not expecting to get anything good from it

"This unique ability is pretty trash, but the first one might be worth mastering" Motoyasu says as magic was very much useless on his eyes, skills were where the true strength of his weapon was but this alertness ability could be useful later on for him, as sensing danger from afar could help him make sure his girls were safe
"Let's go tell the lord we finished the job, can't wait to get our money for such easy job" the spear hero proudly begins boasting about himself, once again to make his girls see how awesome of a guy he was
"Of course Motoyasu-sama" Myne said replied with her innocent and beautiful smile, despite her inner thoughts being much more selfish 'especially after I made that worm promise to give us more for it, he should be glad to pay us, after all we are the party of a cardinal hero so it's only fair'
superman returns to lurolona after a couple hours of hero work, he notices how much more cheerful the people are and also how they seemed to be cutting trees down to build a large wooden tower that would likely become a watch tower, Eclair was to it overseeing things despite her expression telling she would much rather be training herself, she notices Clark in the corner of her eye
"Oh! great you're back we are going to need a hand on some building walls around the village" Eclair said happily while handing him a couple of blue prints, she would have him help in this effort so that she may focus on her own training to regain her old strength
"No problem, I assume this is for the incoming wave" Clark states as this village had been hit by it before, so it made sense they would try and prepare for the next one now
"It's actually to prevent another slaver attack Shield Hero~" Sardina spoke up as she approached the two, eyes fixated on Clark
"Pleasure to meet you again Sardina" Superman extended his hand to do a handshake with the orca demi-human gladly shaking it back
"Oh please the pleasure is all mine~" Sardina said her usual tone of voice, although a hint of a more seductive intent could be noticed by Eclair who didn't found appropriate for the time
"Anyway... there is a lot of improvements we have to make until the next slaver attack or when the wave comes, can tou tell us how much time we have?" Eclair asked the man of steel, he had synchronized with the Melromarc hourglass so he should have access to when it would occur or at least that's what the books told
"Hum... 5 days, 17 hours and 4 minutes" superman revealed with both Sardina and Eclair looking surprised, they didn't expect it to be this close
"Goodness... we better act quick them, Sardina! I want you to make a inventory on our food and safe rooms" Eclair ordered just like he did back in her time as a knight captain, they needed to move fast as to stay ahead from the waves enemies
"Of course, although I prefer to be in direct action than making a list" Sardina let's out a small complain as she would rather prepare for fighting those waves monsters over listing down all their supplies, then again she would do a better job at that than Eclair would
"We have to prioritize but afterwards you can start training some villagers into fighting shape, Shield Hero! your strength and speed are completely out of this world, could you help build up the wall and watchtowers?" Eclair asked, he had apparently rebuild the entire village by himself so having him build up a protective wall for them would move things ahead of their normal effort by a large margin
"It will be done before you can say apple pie" Clark responded ready to help, he couldn't protect these people at every moment so it was best that some form of defense was set up
"Great! now we just need weapons and armor, and I know where to look after..." Eclair spoke under her breath, she knew someone that could give them the necessary equipment but it would be a gamble as this person lived inside the Melromarc capital.

This entire wave was made up by me since the original light novel and web novel never went on detail on what were the waves in the other countries or even what their wave boss monsters were like, only that they were happening ( the more I learn about the shield hero web novel, the worst it gets if I can be honest)
I went for a greek theme for this Wave, I wanted the wave boss to be a Manticore as it felt very cool and a reasonable beast to be in the waves early on (it also feels like a contrast to the Quimera on the Melromarc wave)
to Mr What if: Not really, the people of Siltvelt already see him as god so they won't be really surprised (as shown in this chapter) but maybe it could happen in the waves of Melromarc, likely in the Glass wave
to AnimeFan13579: thanks for the comment, Batman is a really interesting character to put in shield but the problem is writing him properly as I feel I'm not smart or creative enough to write Batman, I have consumed a lot of batman media (who hasn't at this point?) but I need to try writing in character. How would he react to being summoned either after dying or by being teletransported? how would he introduced himself in front of the King and his court? I want to try writing this fanfic a lot but I don't know if I'm up to the challenge and the expectations about it

Also I'm not around 12-14 years old, if you think my writing is in that level then you haven't read some of the other fanfics around this site enough, some are either very simplistic or written very badly. I try to improve my writing constantly and I have gone ahead to rewrite older and worst chapters I had written before (currently working on rewriting my first fanfic, the rise of the cardinal turtles but I have yet to finish some chapters as I'm trying to focus on writing for the superman fanfic, if you read the now updated first chapter in comparison to the third one that has not been upgraded, you will see just how much different my writing style is now)
to Guest 1: from what I have read in the wiki and other fanfics, Keel is a girl but thinks he will become a man once he grows up because of him misunderstanding something his father said, but they're isn't anything wrong with me calling him a boy since the official series did the same before revealing he is a girl (correct me if I'm wrong)
to Guest 2: I don't think Batman would own a slave but I guess it would be very situational and would also depend on how someone like Beloukas would word around it, I'm mostly against it but the shield hero story makes it one of the most vital points unfortunately... also I would be using the Final Crisis "death" of Batman to put him in the world of shield hero but some people seem to not like that approach
to Guest 3: I had originally thought of making him the vassal projectile hero but I scrapped that Idea (feel free to write your own vassal projectile hero batman fanfic) also I will not be using Lex Luthor in this fanfic aside from mentioning him
to zanzara: I have a entire chapter dedicated to superman meeting the council members of Siltvelt and attending a party in his name, but it will take a while until we get there... also the "Devil of the Shield" arc will either be heavily changed or will be scrapped entirely. also thanks, but I don't plan on the Filolian farm in lurolona to do much as they are not gonna become all filolians queens and kings (they were already adults by the time superman got close by them and he doesn't have them in his party so I don't think they would transform into filolian royalty)
to Bruhman: Haha, yeah they don't have the level of strength to do anything significant against the man of steel

to 2zz3: they are already struggling to contain rumors outside of Melromarc so they are fucked once the rumors inside Melromarc begin, the king might not really panic a lot because of the money (remember superman never lost his initial money here) but him synchronizing with the hourglass might give Aultcray a headache
to Guest 5: I agree with you, the whole rapid aging thing was weird as they had to point out to us that raphtalia aged physically and mentally or else it would be very bad for Naofumi's side, also the author realized way later on in the Web Novel that many demi humans kids who had levelled up a lot of levels hadn't aged due to him forgetting the whole rapid aging thing, so he ret-conned it in such a way that it broke previously stablish world building.
to Sceon: have you watched or read shield hero? removing the slave marks wouldn't stop them from being enslaved, it's a problem rooted in the political and religious beliefs of the people. It's said in the story that even if Raphtalia didn't have a slave mark on her, nothing would be stopping anyone from taking her away and putting it back on her, I want to make superman stop slavery by trying to talk with the leaders of each country. Superman is a legendary hero and as such he has a lot of influence, I plan on having he discuss this in a later chapter so please understand what I'm trying to say
to WN-Bruh: don't worry, I don't plan on adding any of that type of stuff. However since one of Rifana's only defining traits is being completely obsessed with the shield hero, her one sided obsession will appear in the story but I don't plan on making superman and her getting together, in fact I don't plan on having any love interest for Superman.

to kennymadison11: I mostly saw it as a victorian version of Gotham with a sex obsession, the capital is described as a crime filled city top to bottom with so much pollution it has dark smoke clouds covering the sky to the point not being able to see any sunlight and the entire political part of the country is corrupt. to Chris and Guest 6: I better explain what I mean by "supervillain" as I have imagined two types:
the first type is Takt like individuals, people that got a cheat skill or something of that sort by Medea to cause problems and destroy the heroes. These types of supervillains would be made to try and kill superman, I have come up with three of them where each would get their own chapter about fighting them but they would be defeated and imprisoned by superman in a super prison of his making as these individuals are too dangerous to leave walking around the world of shield hero, also characters from the DC universe like Lex Luthor wouldn't be amongst these individuals, they would all be 100% original characters even if they may take inspiration from already existing ones in terms of powers (example is making one have powers similar to a green lantern but not be tied to any emotion to use his powers)
the second type is super wave bosses, these would be boss monsters that Medea has powered up to new levels of strength. They would be the only monster in their Wave but they would be much stronger than a normal wave with minions and these waves happen in a bigger frequency than normal waves, a side effect of this approach is that Medea would stop invading other worlds to focus only on the world of shield hero, as a result realities like Glass world would get easier and easier waves over time until they eventually stop all together because Medea is getting tunel vision on killing superman.
