It was the beginning of their senior year, after a summer filled with drama and Sharpay not getting what she always wanted - Troy Bolton. The wildcats were still mad at her for trying to "ruin their summer" and "bribe Troy"…oh! And "break up the golden couple," but because of Ryan, they started to let her sit with them at lunch. She had become friendly with Taylor and even gone shopping with her a few times. Chad was sort of warming up to the ice queen, and the other wildcats seemed to be following his lead. There were only two people Sharpay avoided contact with at all costs - Troy and Gabriella. Troy would try to talk to her at lunch or in the hallway. He even texted her a few times, but she ignored him as much as it killed her to. She knew if she had any kind of relationship with Troy, even just as friends, Gabriella would lose her shit. After the events of the summer, Gabriella would not even look at Sharpay, which was fine with the blonde because she had nothing to say to little Miss. Fucking Perfect. Besides, every time a girl even looked at Troy, Gabriella would flip out and accuse him of cheating on her and they would have a huge embarrassing public fight (most of the time in the cafeteria) break up, and get back together by the end of the day.
Sharpay knew trying to follow her heart and still go after Troy would be exhausting and pointless. She kind of had friends now, and if Troy wants to be with a girl like Gabriella, he must be insane.
It was Monday and Sharpay was sitting at her new lunch table with her brother on one side and Taylor on the other. "Gabriella said she was coming. What is taking her so long?" Taylor sighed and rolled her eyes.
"It's not like she's fixing her hair," Sharpay said under her breath, getting a small laugh from Taylor. "McKessie, you just made my day" then blonde said laughing and high fiving her sort of friend. Deep down she wanted to be friends with everyone. She wanted to be included instead of spending Friday nights in her room sneaking wine from her parents' cellar and getting drunk and trying not to answer Troy's calls or texts.
All of the sudden the cafeteria doors swung open to reveal an angry Gabriella and a confused and annoyed Troy. "That is it, Troy. It's over!" she yelled, causing the cafeteria to go silent and turn to watch the drama unfolding. "I don't understand why you won't go to school in California with me," she said, "and I know you've been texting other girls!" She took off her 'T' necklace and threw it at him.
"Gabriella, did you ever think for one fucking second that I want to go to the U of A?" Troy yelled, visibly frustrated and done.
God, angry Troy is hot as fuck! Sharpay thought, biting her lip almost getting lost in thought, but her attention turned back to the golden couple of East High.
Gabriella said in a patronizing tone, "Troy, U of A isn't a very good school. You can do way better, I just know what's best for you."
Chad looked at the table and said, "What the fuck? Isn't everyone at this table minus Kelsi, Taylor, and Ryan going to U of A?"
"Guess we aren't good enough, Danforth" Sharpay said. Chad reached across the table to fist bump her and Sharpay was shocked.
"That is seriously fucked up," Ryan said, getting nods from the table. "You know what, Gabriella? It's over for good. You just insulted half of this school, your friends, and me by looking down on our college. Sorry some of us have lives and have fun and don't spend all of their time studying like a lame ass," he yelled. "I have let the whole jealousy thing slide after this summer, but dear God! Martha was texting me about a history assignment, not because she wants to fuck me, which by the way, you still keep saying it's going to happen soon."
Sharpay was taking a sip of water and spit it out when she heard what Troy said.
Martha said, "Yeah our texts about World War Two are pretty steamy." The whole table was about in tears laughing.
"This just keeps getting better" Sharpay said, realizing the attention was on their table now. "Oh continue!" She waved at the couple.
Gabriella was in shock, not expecting Troy to actually argue back. He never did. "Troy, let's go somewhere private to continue this conversation," she said, biting her lip and knowing she had fucked up big time.
"No Gabriella, I mean it. I'm done," he said pulling away from her as she grabbed his arm. "I gave up my summer for you, my friends, I changed so much about me for you," he said.
There was a moment of silence so Sharpay stood up and started to clap. "Bravo, you two! That was just wonderful, now what time will you be getting back together? The dismissal bell? I know none of us can miss another performance from the Troy and Gabriella break up and get back together show," she said while locking eyes with Gabriella.
Troy laughed and gave Sharpay a thumbs up. She blew him a kiss and sat back down.
Gabriella said, "Sharpay, why are you so desperate?" She walked over to the lunch table as Troy tried to stop her.
Chad said, "Girl needs to walk away." He knew shit was about to go down.
Sharpay stood up…she had been waiting for this moment since Gabriella Montez walked through the doors of East High. "Oh Gabriella, you dumb bitch, I'm not desperate. I've left Troy alone. He's called me, texted me, tried to stop me in the halls to talk, and I've ignored him because I don't want to deal with you. Especially after the stunts you pulled over the summer."
"Troy, is this true?" Gabriella asked with rage building in her voice.
He responded, "Yeah, it is. I felt bad about how I treated her and wanted to apologize and be friends."
Before he could finish his statement Gabriella slapped him across the face and ran out of the cafeteria just before the bell rang. The gang rushed over to Troy to check on him.
Chad said, "Dude, she's lost it!" He looked at the handprint on his best friend's face. "Let's go get you some ice for that" he said before turning to Sharpay. "Evans, I'm impressed you didn't go after my boy here even when you had a chance."
"Well, I wanted to but I kinda wanted friends and drinking alone on a Friday night with your dog gets a little depressing after a while," she said, then turned to Troy. "I'm proud of you, Bolton. You've finally grown some balls," she said before leaving the cafeteria to head to her next class. She was even more confident than normal. She wasn't going to go after Troy right after a breakup. She refused to be a rebound and she didn't know how her now semi-friends would react…if they would go back to team Troyella by the end of the day.
Troy sat in class with ice on his cheek. Gabriella had texted him fifty times and he had ignored all of them, refusing to turn around and look at her. His thoughts kept drifting to Sharpay, had he made the biggest mistake of his life over the summer?
