As usual. Kane woke up earlier than everyone else. He pulls out a cigarette and debates on whether or not now would be a good time to smoke it
He then looks over at everyone else while they are sleeping and particular at Zack
"….Me pregunto qué problemos nos meterás en…. Zack…" muttered Kane before deciding to light his cigarette
He walks over to the everyone else with a slight ominous gleam in his eyes before nudging Zack with his baton
"Zzzzzz….mmmm…..zzzz" said a sleeping Zack as Kane nudges him again
He was still sleeping
"idiota despierta" said Kane with a large hint of annoyance as he restrains himself from outright kicking Zack as he finishes smoking and puts it out. Then he puts his helmet on
"!" said Zack instinctively aiming his discharges at Kane as he retaliated by quickly getting his baton to forcefully aim elsewhere
"….some dream you must've had" said Kane lowering his baton
"I'm sorry Kane" said Zack
"I understand how you are probably feeling. Know that you aren't amongst enemigos" said Kane bluntly before taking a puff as Zack gives him a look "….que?"
"Keh? What does that even mean?" said Zack "Sounds d-" as suddenly Kane's baton was now really close to his face
"-Don't insult my mother tongue. You are a fool for thinking such of a things. Imbecíl" said Kane
"Its early.." said Zack as Kane then poked Zack's head
"That's not an excuse." Said Kane "Moving on. What exactly do you plan before we all head out for this detour?"
"Being ready" said Zack
"…" said Kane as Zack is certain curious of his antagonistic attitude. Before chalking it up to annoyance
A few moments pass by as eventually everyone else began to wake up. Leanna yawns big before getting up and stretching
"Buenos dias Leanna" said Kane
"Mmmm morning Kane" said Leanna hiding in another yawn as she then smiled at him as Amelia walks over
"Time to map out where to go" said Amelia
"Will this be a long one?" said Kane as Zack began to think
"The cloaked brotherhood is located somewhere within bridgewick, that's southeast" said Zack "It may be a bit of backtracking. But it shouldn't take as long"
This somewhat surprised Kane. They already passed it?
"You are correct However it is still advantageous towards our main goal. To reach the water temple we would have to had travel the same direction regardless" said Amelia
Kane was stunned. It's like the more time he wanted to spend with Leanna was going to be a lot less than he presumed
Kara then faces Zack
"Your positive they are in Bridgewick?" said Kara as Zack nods to her "How do you know then? All my research showed nothing"
"I wasn't supposed to know either. Until they slipped up" said Zack
"Regardless it still sounds like our best lead" said Leanna
"But we'll need to do more scouting as that's general location of where it should be" said Zack as everyone then began to gather their things
Kane then poked Sky
"Poi…" said Sky as he slumped on Amelia's backpack before Kane scoops him up to put on his shoulder covered by his cloak as the gang began to make their way to Bridgewater
Leanna looks at Kane as she slows her walking to be on pace with him
"hey Kane?" said Leanna
"?" said Kane
"Is there anything you are thinking about?" Said Leanna as the tightens turns his attention to her
"..is there a particular reason why you ask?" said Kane
"Well its just that we have a brief new agenda" said Leanna "Are you ok with this?"
"Si" said Kane "It gives me more of a reason to stick around, who else would bother you this much?"
"Er-Well I…" said Leanna as the thought of Kane without his helmet wearing a more traditional knight armor
"…We should do more stuff like this" said Kane nonchalantly catching her off guard as she imagined more zany adventures with just him in her head for moment
"..I'd love to" said Leanna
To Bridgewick
The gang finally arrived they saw the big market Kane looked at the well paved cobblestone streets bustling with businesses, people, and the a few roaming horses here and there. Kane then looked over to see one shopkeeper shoo away a couple homeless people with a broom
"Well I guess no place is above some poverty" thought Kane with a deadpan look behind his helmet as he then looked through the shops hoping to find maybe another pastry, candle, or knife selling one
Sky buries his face in Kane's hand as the gang further walks around. Everything seemed so ordinary. Most people didn't seem to take notice of Kane because of how busy the place is. And the people that did put a little more distance from him
"…" said Kane seeing a man take a few steps into his ship nervously after meeting Kane's gaze as both Zack and Leanna notice
"What is it?" said Leanna
"If what Zack said was correct" said Kane making Zack frown for a second "Everything seems so normal I wouldn't expect a cult hiding around"
"what were you expecting?" said Zack
"Someplace shady. Maybe a place authorities aren't paid enough to deal with the danger?" said Kane "But this is a nice change of pace"
"Well hiding in a place unremarkable is a good strategy. No one suspects a thing" said Zack "And they don't typically see too much crime here"
"I wonder how much influence on the townsfolk here" said Kara
"Probably very little. I highly doubt most people are even aware they are here" said Zack
"Maybe we should go to the inn?" said Amelia as Zack shook his head
"Too many people would recognize me" said Zack "Inns are a primary target for Cloaked Brotherhood Scouts"
"That brings up a larger problem" said Kara "Where could Zack stay?"
"Actually… I have a contact here. We can ask he can help us lay low" said Zack making Kara raise her eyebrow
"A friend of a friend. He won't turn us away" said Zack as he leads the gang further through the city and stops at a shop. With a hammer and anvil sign hangs above the door. Q blacksmith's forge
Zack opens the door making a small bell ring. Kane looks around to see all the weapons for sale hanging on the wall. They could hear metal clanging and some sparks flying. They then see. A rather large man. Taller than Kane standing at 6'7 working away at a sword before standing up to hang it
"Hey" said Zack
The man turns around and blinks
"Oh, good afternoon" said the man as he wipes the sweat off his balding head "Sorry to keep you waiting, what can I do you all?" as he then takes notice of Kane feeling a slight rising tension from his appearance
"Are you Adrian?" said Zack as the man felt a bit more tense while keeping his smile
"I am. Who's asking?" said the man named Adrian
"I'm a friend of Damon" said Zack
Adrian's eyes went wide as he lets out a long slow breath
"That's a name I haven't heard from in a while" said Adrian as Kane then began to wander to stare at all the knives
"He always spoke highly of you. Saying only blades worth having were ones forged by Adrian" said Zack as Adrian fully eased up letting out a hearty laugh
"Ha! And then he switched to discharges. Lost half my business that way" said Adrian as his expression softens as he takes a closer look on Zack "You were the boy Damon took in. Though you are no longer a boy"
"Zack" said Zack
"I'm sorry what happens to him. He didn't deserve what happened" said Adrian making Zack lower his head "he always talked about you know how you were going to be one of the finest mercy out there. Rivaling even him…. He was like brother.. I'd be happy to help out a friend of his"
Zack nods to recompile himself, looking up to Adrian
"I appreciate that a lot. In fact. I was wondering if you are able to help me. Would it be alright if I lay low here for a while?" said Zack
"Well. I won't ask why. But if you can promise not to bring anything bad to shop. You got yourself a deal" said Adrian
"I promise you won't be involved" said Zack
"good. Then stay as long as you need" said Adrian
"Thank you" said Zack
"Is the rest of you staying as well?" said Adrian
Leanna shakes her head in response
"Well it's a bit crowded" said Leanna "And we have several things to take care of"
"Poi Poi poi" said Sky
"…you want to stick around or something?" said Kane
"Poi" said Sky seemingly in a yes tone
"Can I trust you'll be on your best behavior?" said Kane
"Poi" said Sky
"…alright" said Kane as he then looks at one of the crystals "..do you mind if I purchase that?" as he pulls out a bunch offering to Adrian who takes it
"Pleasure doing business" said Adrian as Kane reaches for the crystal and puts it in front of Sky
"Poi poi!" said Sky happily as he began to happily nom on the crystal
"Awww" said Leanna melting over the sight
"…you mind if he stays as well" said Kane
"..Well you paid good money… I see no problem" said Adrian as Kara then touches Zack's arm
"We'll be back as soon as we can" said Kara as Kane walked straight out the door
"Hey wait up" said Leanna as everyone else but Zack and Sky follow Kane
"To find the location.. some should split up to find more information" said Kara
"Agreed. But our best course of action is split into pairs. That way if we encounter trouble we'll have someone to have our back" said Amelia
"Great!, Amy and I will go to the north of the town while you and Kane go south" said Kara as she and Amelia then head north
"…" said Kane as he turned to Leanna who gives him a reassuring smile as they both head down south as they paused at the market place
"I'll scout around these buildings for unusually activity" said Leanna
"You sure?" said Kane
"Kane I'll be fine" said Leanna not even thinking about what Kane just said
"…ok" said Kane "I'll be in the marketplace" as she nods and turns to go scouting. Kane then makes his way further into the bustling market though he found something he desired. A pastry shop
"Please be Cinnabon please be Cinnabon please Cinnabon " muttered Kane quietly as he then walked into a tent
"Hell-oh!" said baker man caught off guard by Kane's appearance "Kent? Is that you?" as he seemed to be studying his appearance
Kane's head tilted his head curiously as he then remembers what the lady called him a while back
"No… I am not him" said Kane
"You sure?..." said the baker as behind his helmet. Kane has a deadpan look on his face "…Well Kent gave me that look before… I guess you must be related or something"
"I.. don't think so" said Kane "I just want to buy a pastry por favor"
"Oh-uh I see" said the baker a little nervously as Kane looks at the pastries. Sadly no cinnbons but he did see some lemon cakes
"…I'll have that" said Kane ponting to it
"will that be all" said the baker
"Si" said Kane as he gives the baker a couple coins and the baker hands him the lemon cake "Gracias" as he then leaves the tent somewhat satisfied while at baker looks at him in wonder
As Kane walks through he notices three guards all on the ground playing with marbles
"...Supongo que a ellos les gusta hacer tonto" thiught Kane in slight annoyance as they began to notice him catching them off guard with his appearance with one of then quickly getting up and dusting himself off
"*clears throat* name your business titan knight" said the guard
"….I'm curioso…" said Kane "How's protecting the city going?"
To the guards. He sounded ominous as all hell
"Its uh… good?" said the standing guard while the other two scooch back slightly
"..any suspicious characters you have seen?" said Kane giving the three of them an impression that he may be a bounty hunter
"Well uh… not really. We do our patrols efficiently if you must know" said the guard as Kane comes to the conclusion he'll get nothing from them. Kane silently grunts in annoyance before walking away making the three guards at ease and resume their marble game
Kane then sees a woman with her son staring at him. Giving them his full attention he walks over to them
"Disculpe" said Kane making both freeze as Kane approached them. She then shuffles her son behind her "I'm wondering if you noticed anything… suspicious.. hm? Tell me about the town" leaning over them
"I uh.. think you shouldn't be traveling alone" said the mother as her son holds her hand
"Is that everything?" said Kane as she nervously nodded and her lips tightly shut. She clearly not only is scared of him. But scared of something else "….very well… lo lamento.." as he turns around to walk back into the market crowds
Then. Kane notices a group of young men. Clustered together blocking off an alleyway laughing about something. Because of how shady they look. Kane might as well try to ask them. And walks over. One of them takes notice
Making them all tense up to see the scary titan approaching
"...mind telling me if anything strange is going?" said Kane
"Nope! Nothing!" said the ringleader putting on a tough act waving his hand at Kane "Now get out of-" and Kane grabbed his arm yanking him closer
"I advise choosing your words carefully. Otherwise.." said Kane pull out his switch blade "We will have a problem. Am I clear?" as the man nervously nods and Kane pushes him into his friends as Kane then leaves
"….all for nothing..." thought Kane in annoyance "…I wonder how Leanna is doing.. she's definitely better than me at this" as he then notices some paintings. Gathering his interests
Meanwhile
"You sure you guys don't know?" said Leanna to a group of young teens as they sheepishly and nervously shook their heads" making Leanna sigh before going onto a married couple asking them the same questions
To get nothing
Then moving onto more people in the market
Of course nothing
"I guess I should find Kane. Maybe he had better luck than me" thought Leanna looking heading to the area where Kane was searching. After a few moments of Walking she sees Kane staring at a painting of a man making candles
She gives a smile at him as she walks over standing aside him
"Hey Kane" said Leanna gaining his attention
"hey" said Kane "How's your search?"
"Sadly no luck" said Leanna "What about you?"
"I'm sorry Leanna. I've had no luck as well" said Kane shaking his head
"Well I guess we will have better luck trying later. I think after this long we should get back to eh others" said Leanna as she leads him back to the blacksmith shop
"You see any interesting stores?" said Kane
"I didn't really look" said Leanna
"Then must have a look soon" said Kane as he then pulls out his lemon cake and breaks it in half and offers it to her
"I would love to" said Leanna "And thank you" as she takes the piece and takes a bite while Kane eats his pieces through his helmet "Mmmm.. lemon cake"
Kane really liked his piece of the lemon cake as well. Though he couldn't remember if he had a taste like this or not
Later
They arrive back in the blacksmith shop woth Kara and Amelia seemingly waiting for them
"There you guys are" said Kara happily
"…I take it you found something?" said Kane
"Yup" said Kara "I think I've got a lead as Kane tilted his head in curiosity while she nods "I notice of people going in and out of this one area. It might be nothing. But it could be the exact thing we are looking for"
"That sounds like our best bet. Let's grab Zack and head over" said Leanna as everyone nods and Amelia went to go get Zack
Kane turns around to see Sky sleeping on the table. He goes over and pets him
"Zzzzz…poi?" said Sky waking up before becoming excited to see him
"Just hold out a little longer. We'll be back soon" said Kane caressing him while Sky rubs himself on Kane's hand
"Poi poi" said "Poi" as Sky then straighten up. To the deflate a little and began to fall back asleep
"Good boy" said Kane as he pets Sky one last time as he notices Amelia bring Zack in while Kara then leads the gang out of the blacksmith shop
Kara then takes the gang through a shortcut through the city. Getting knocked more isolated streets to which. The less people around. The better
After more twists and turns. And one last sharp left turn
"We're here" said Kara as Kane looks at the house she is pointing at. Then back at her
"….doesn't look that much different than the other houses" said Kane
"It may not seem like much. But lots of people in and out. If it were a regular house we'd see the same people over and over again. But that's not the case here" said Kara
"So let's go check it out then" said Zack as he and Kane walk ahead to see that a man is stationed right outside "Kane let me have him"
"…" said Kane as he watched Zack sneak up to the man. And easily knocks him out and opens the door to let everyone in
From. What Kane can see. It's a rather simple kitchen. And a suspicious looking room which he could swear it's hiding something
Kara then began shopping around knocking on multiple parts of the wall and moving curtains and clothes. Eventually. She moved one particular clutch that revealed a blank wall. She then pushes a wooden knot
To reveal an underground stairway into a secret room
Kane wasn't surprised at all. But he certainly moved the aesthetic. He looks at Kara. She looks incredibly nervous. He then looks at Leanna who looks uneasy while Amelia looked just as nervous as Kara
He then puts his hand on Leanna's shoulder to ease her
"Let's go" said Zack as he goes in, followed by Kane, then by the others. Kane gets his baton ready while seeing that Zack seemingly won't hesitate to shoot someone
As they descended downward. There was a light that got brighter the closer they got. They could hear a couple voices laughing to which they reached a hallway
Zack then quickly shoots one of the them making him collapse and Kane charges at the second man
"What th-" said the thug seeing Kane for a split second
*Pow*
The other thug is down. Both Kane and Zack enter first into a rather large and darkly lit room. Upon looking around. It looked to be some sort of guild. A guard from afar takes notice of them and grabs his discharger
Only for a gust of wind to knock him back. Kane knew that was from Leanna
"That's way less security than I thought…" muttered Kane "…patetico…" they then notice one last man who leans up from under a desk. He had red hair and several scars in his face
"You can't be back here. It's on-" said the man as he stopped himself upon seeing Zack. Leaving him shocked "…Zack?"
There was a heavy pause. And Zack was just as shocked as the man. Kane looked on with mild interest
"it can't be…. VAYR…" said Zack recognizing the man now named Vayr
Vayr games at him for a little longer before his expression changes into a wry smile and let's out a laugh
"Og course it's you. It's always you isn't it" said Vayr with a hint of smugness
"You're… alive?" Said Zack still hit with shock
"yes. And I'm just as surprised to see you… but I shouldn't be. I should've known better" said Vayr
"What are you talking about!? Where have you been this entire time?!" said Zack to which Vayr shakes his head in response
"Bit slow on the uptake huh? I expected better from you. Zack. The prodigal son" said Vayr taunting making Zack's jaw clench
"..you've been here with the cloaked brotherhood" said Zack as Vayr grins
"there ya go! I knew you'd figure" said Vayr as Zack eye's darken
"Our last mission together… us and the others…. But you weren't there when the others got attacked" said Zack
Vayr's mouth curls to a snarl
"Apparently. Neither were you" said Vayr
"I was sent to look for you!" said Zack
"Yeah. And Damon couldn't trust me to do one thing. He sent YOU to fix it for me, didn't he?" said Vayr
"He was worried about you! That's what being part of a team is!" said Zack
Kara and Leanna were going to intervene before Kane sticks out his hand to stop them
"Don't give me that bullshit!" said Vayr with his eyes narrowing "Damon only cared about you… the rest of us on the other hand.. only how we compared to you"
"That's not true!" said Zack
"Ah ah!" said Vayr "If he never trusted you as much as he did he'd still be alive!" As he gestured to the guild "If you caught me. You would've prevented this. Yet you failed"
Zack then pulls his dischargers and starts firing at him catching everyone off guard
"Argh!" said Vayr as he collapses onto the ground gasping Zack's eyes are aware abyss as he goes over to aim his discharger at Vayr's head
Kara, Leanna, and Amia are all shocked at what Zack is about to so
However. Behind his helmet. Kane started to have a sadistic smile
"Zack what are you doing!?" said Kara as Zack's grip on his discharger tightens. Kara then steps slowly towards him "He's done! You don't have to do this"
Kane started to lose his smile and frown into disdain. He felt Zack should totally get his justice
"I understand your pain and your anger. But killing him won't bring rings friend back" said Kara as she gently touches Zack's arm "Don't stoop to his level. You won't able to come back from it"
"*cough* you really don't know who he is. He's killed countless people" said Vayr "You'd think 1 more person would change?"
Zacks grip tightens. As Kane watched in keen interest hoping he'd finish the job
"No.." said Zack lowering his weapon unaware of Kane's disapproval
Vayr exhales hard and laughs
"You were my brother for the longest time. But you will live with what you did. And it will haunt you one day" said Zack as he knocks out Vayr
"You did the right thing" said Kara which Zack doesn't respond
Kane shakes his head as he personally would've killed him if he were in Zack's shoes. He then taps Leanna to gain her attention
"you alright?" Said Kane
"Yes." Said Leanna as the life negative to return in her. As she gives him a small smile "But I feel fir Zack.. it must've been really hard having someone you trusted betray you"
Kane went silent on that comment as he then looks to see Amelia rummaging through multiple books
"Amy?" said Leanna
"I am just searching for the ledger. It is evident these are the books that we seek" said Amelia with her voice wavering while putting on a brave face.
This really tells Kane that they certainly haven't seen as much as he has. Everyone then began to further rummage through the books
Kane of course notices a few candles which made his smile return and he snags all the interesting looking ones while further looking
"Kara. What date are we looking for?" said Kane
"oh uh. Let me think" said Kara and once she said the dates. Everyone had a better idea of what to look for
However. From the corner of his eye. Kane noticed someone peeking at them. Kane turns to look that the person has a familiar purple glow in his eyes
"…" said Kane as he could tell the person is staring through his helmet and into his eyes
"Kane?" said Leanna as he turned his head to her "You see something wrong?"
"No… I'm just seeing things.." said Kane as he then resumes sorting through the books to which the person then leaves silently
Later
Eventually. Kane found a ledger. He dusted it off to see it's possibly the book they are looking for. He looks to see everyone continually rummaging through more books as he then makes his way to Zack
"Yeah?" said Zack as Kane hands him the ledger. Zack examines it before wordlessly going over to hand it to Kara. Grabbing the attention of Leanna and Amelia
"…is it the ledger we require?" said Amelia as Kara mods but doesn't read it. She felt frozen st what is in her hands making Leanna interject
"Why don't we take the book with us?" said Leanna "We may want tk leave before more fo the brotherhood arrives"
"y-Yeah.." said Kara as she shakes her head to clear her thoughts "I-mean you're right. We need to get out of here"
Amelia grabs a few more books and the gang all slips our of the room as they head back up the stairway and back into the house to see that it's night time now
Zack marches straight out towards a guard doing a patrol catching him off guard
"Can I help you?" said the guard suspiciously
"Yes. We have something that can help you" said Zack
"Oh?" said the guard
"There's a band of dangerous mercenaries living in this area called the 'Cloaked Brotherhood' they've hurt innocent people for years and we just discovered their homebase" said Zack
The guard looked super surprised
"I've never heard of this group" said the guard getting more skeptical
"That's the point" said Zack while the guard looks at him skeptically "They don't operate openly" the guard still gives him that skeptical look as Zack then holds out a book to the guard "This is a list of targets. It's just a few but their base has more"
The guards takes it and skims through some pages with his expression turning grim
"These… these are death dates" said the guard flipping through more of the book before snapping it shut "Where did you say you found this?"
"There's a hidden door in front of the main room. You'll need reinforcements" said Zack pointing to the house
"Very well. I shall look into this immediately" said the guard as he goes to reach his fellow guards once
The gang then began to make their way towards an inn
"Aren't you worried about being spotted?" said Kara
"Doesn't matter anymore" said Zack as they finally reach the in and go in
However. Kane stopped Leanna for a moment
"Sky is still in the blacksmith shop. Im going to go get him" said Kane
"Do you want me to come with you?" Said Leanna
"The blacksmith is not that far. I'll be fine" said Kane as Leanna nods to him. As much as he wanted to say yes. He was craving a cigarette and had a strong feeling Leanna would disapprove. He takes off his helmet and lights one as he .are his way to the blacksmith
Kane puts the cigarette in his mouth to take a puff which illuminated the lower part of his face. Due to his scary appearance. Everyone that saw him immediately tried hiding from him
"I wonder how of the town thinks I'm amongst that cult" thought Kane as eventually when no one was around as he then notice sneaking by. At first he thought that it was the Isabel girl though if it was her. She'd be aware
Kane turns around to see one cloaked man with the same eyes he saw earlier
"Tch. I see you followed me.." said Kane taking another puff "Diablos quieres"
"Well. I didn't follow you for no reason" said the cloaked man
"Come to convert me to the death cult?" said Kane
"Only if you are interested" said the man ominously making Kane scoff
"I couldn't care less" said Kane letting out the air "Is there something else you wanted or just that?"
"Well. For you look just like him. They could always use a twinsee" said the man as he reveals a VOID brand at the bottom of his neck "But I only want to give… let's say a 'heads up'. For it is aware of what you want. We can help. Only if you want"
"…." Said Kane as the man silently chuckled while Kane watches as he disappeared into the night
Kane then resumes his way to the blacksmith shop and knocks on the door
"We're closed" said Adrian behind the door. Kane then grimaced in annoyance and knocked again as the door swings open "Look-…oh" as he recognized it was Kane when he sees the helmet
"I'm here to pick up Sky" said Kane
"Oh uh… well please come in" said Adrian as Kane pm takes another puff and walks in and sees Sky start to wake up and yawns
"Hey boy" said Kane with a smile as he scoops him up and puts him on his shoulder. Kane then turns around and Adrian can get a good look at him which caught him slightly off guard. Kane then looks up to see interesting looking knives
Kane then looks at a rather small but heavily stylized knife. Albiet it doesn't look like it's meant for any use
"… interested in one of those collectors?" said Adrian
"…how much?" said Kane
"That's about 60 coins.. but since you are a friend. I can cut it to 40" said Adrian
Kane looks at his coin bag. He notices that's going take a considerable chunk of what he has left. But that dark knife. Even if it's meant for display only. It's enticing enough. What if there are more delicious pastries and he can get
"Eh f**k it I'll find a way" thought Kane as he grabs the box and hands him the coins. "This will be my first display"
"Well even if it's late. Money is still money" said Adrian
"Poi…." Said Sky as he starts to snore as Kane as he made his way back to the inn. Taking another puff of smoke before tossing the cigarette to the ground and stepping on it. He then puts his helmet back on
"Maybe it's good I didn't have her come… but…" thought Kane as he got closer to the inn. There was of course still some patrons drinking and doing whatever. So Kane heads upstairs to where he then hears some audible crying
Kane then recognized who is crying. But the door was a bit open. Normally it wouldn't be his business. But Kane couldn't resist it. So he silently takes a peak
It was Zack and Kara holding each other while they are both in tears.
"….so they made up.." thought Kane "…How cute" as he then felt a hand on his shoulder prompting him to turn around. It was Leanna
"Its best to let them be for now" said Leanna
"…very well.." said Kane as cups Sky and held his sleeping form to Leanna who both is caught off guard by the sudden notion
"Aww" said Leanna quietly as Kane gently puts Sky into her arms
"Rest well Leanna. You had enough tension for a day" said Kane as Leanna looks at him for a moment before excusing it as him wanting to make things easier for him "Buenos nochess Leanna"
Once she goes into her room. Kane eavesdrops again and hears them sob a little more. Which to Kane was just waiting for them to finish. Not that he didn't entirely care

Eventually Zack walks out of the room with Kara and goes into their room before walking back over
"Zack." Said Kane startling him
"!-Kane!?.. what's up?" said Zack easing
"Do you mind if we have a talk?" said Kane ominously. Making Zack tense slightly. Thinking Kane is mad at him for being part of such a horrible cult gang
"I uh…" said Zack
"I don't have all night. It will be quick. I promise" said Kane as he then takes an two shit glasses and an small unopened liqour bottle
"Ok.." said Zack as Kane lead the way downstairs to the outside of the inn. Where not many people could hear
"There is something. I think you should answer for. Zack, I want to ask is about your actions" said Kane
"Look Kane. I regret every life I've taken. I was to-" said Zack
"This isn't about your previous deeds. I'm talking about what has happened earlier today" said Kane making Zack ease greatly as he remembered Kane never once seemed care about his jobs

"You spared his life" said Kane making Zack realize what this is about
"It was the right thing to do Kane. What's wrong with that?" said Zack

"I can see that. But you should bite the blast one last time" said Kane as he takes off his helmet and then pours a glass and drinks
Zack could see Kane's face more clearly this time as it was illuminated by the nearby crystals. But he could also tell Kane definitely looks frustrated borderline angry at him
"After all. I'm sure you could tell what I would've done in your shoes" said Kane as his red eyes stare ominously into Zack's
"C-C'mon Kane. Don't be like this. I don't want to spill anymore blood I already have" said Zack
"Now that can't be a choice everyone can choose, now can they?" said Kane pouring himself another glass "I know I can't dictate your life. But surely you should take the precaution"
"…" said Zack unsure how to respond
"Look me in the eyes Zack and tell me. Was it really the best choice to let someone as dangerous as him go?" said Kane Zack was left silent. But at the same time. Kane knows he still wasn't convinced "The last time I made such a mistake. I indirectly caused a friend to disappear"
"Kane you couldn't have known" said Zack realizing Kane has made a similar choice
"I know. But I want to avoid such a predicament" said Kane "I'm not calling you weak for not wanting to kill. For it may be admirable. There's always naivety and the unknown to let an enemy live"
Kane then pours Zach a drink
"I understand how you feel. But it's something I cannot relate. There have been several moments I have taken vengeance for different reasons than you" said Kane
"And did that make you feel better?" said Zack "If it's all pointless you only had to deal with more pain"
"….No. and frankly. If it's vengeance for fallen friends it's worth it to me. To me it's justice. But I am aware people think differently." Said Kane "However. Most people in your position would have or would live the ability to do what I have. To…. Remove a tormentor" zack then drinks his glass
"So what? Your trying to convince me I should've killed him?" Said Zack as Kane's eyes seemingly had a purple tinge for a moment. But Zack excused it as the liquor starting to get to his head
"In a way. But I am disappointed. Though it's still your decision" said Kane pouring himself the last of the liquor. "I do apologize if this rubs you the wrong way. But understand there are some risks, I recommend avoiding"
In fact. Kane would like to ask what he would have done if Kara wasn't around. But that'd feel ugly
Kane then puts his helmet back on and the they both silently returned to the inn. Putting the glasses and the bottle on a table as they both went up to their room. Zack then gets into the bed as then uncomfortably looks at Kane as he takes a seat
Not knowing how much longer he'll be awake or if he already fell asleep. Though Zack feels Kane is similar to him. In away. His opinion on Kane is slightly changed.
When he finally went to sleep. Kane then took one of the candles he stole from the cult and starts to inspect it with fascination
The next day
Leanna wakes up early. She looks at Kara's sleeping form and quietly puts him on her as she then gets up to tiptoe out the door. She then goes to the boys room and Zack is still sleeping while Kane wasn't there. The earliest as usual
Leanna then goes to the main lobby and Kane wasn't visible. Which struck her as odd because normally he is an easy to find guy in the day. Then she goes outside. And sees him from the back. However she then noticed he's smoking making her frown
He then turns around and sees her. And he then dropped the cigarette and stepped on his to put it out
"Buenos dias Leanna" said Kane as he definitely knows she slightly annoyed at him
"*sigh* Kane… why must you do that this early." Said Leanna as Kane shrugs as they both walk back into the in and sit down with a waitress pouring them both a glass of water
"…" said Kane "…How are you feeling?" catching her slightly off guard
"Well for starters I don't like it when someone wastes their health" said Leanna with a slight huff as Kane rolled his eyes
"Leanna. Something else is bothering you" said Kane with a look of concern "…is it about what happened last night?"
"…" said Leanna as she slightly turned away
"I see.." said Kane as he takes a sip as she sighs
"it's just that I feel for them… to lose someone you care about. I can't imagine" said Leanna
"Leanna… I know you feel guilty. But. They will heal with time. Just like everyone" said Kane as she then takes a sip "They are going to be ok. After all. They did receive a form of closure"
Leanna then remembered what had happened. Those issues that both Kara and Zack dealt with was in the back of their minds. Surely it will always chip at someone negatively. Kane sighs to himself as he thinks about his firmer friends again before thinking again
"Allow me to tell you something… rather.. similar" said Kane "…For my experiences when something like that happens. I always think of what I still have. For I don't know what else I'll lose if I'm not careful"

"It's going to ok Leanna. They've proven themselves to be strong willed. But avoid asking about this unless they bring it up first" said Kane as they both continued sitting g for a while longer until they are joined by the others
"Hello Kane, Leanna, we are prepared to resume our trip" said Amelia as she held onto Sky who yawns kinda big

"…its good to see you both" said Kane to Amelia and Sky with slight smile as she gives him a small in return as he then puts his helmet back on as he looked at Zack and Kara and then gets up to head out first
The gang catches up and began to make their way put of the city on a trail back to one of the previous cities they were at. Illumia. When Kane remembered. He thought of seeing the old lady Leslie. She she will love to hear what he's been through
"poi.." said Sky as Amelia people him and everyone began to make their journey. Kane noticed that given the closure. Zack and Kara are looking a bit better than earlier. He still disapproves of Zack's lack action
As the group traveled further towards the familiar plains of way earlier. Kane felt good enough to take off his helmet to feel the breeze and removed his hoodie
"Hows the sunshine?" Said Leanna with a smile
"…Bien" said Kane as the gang continued their way. Kane is fine with he amount of walking that he has done. But he knows it will drive any normal person from where he is bananas
"Kane can I ask you something?" said Amelia gaining his attention "Do you by chance able to conjure a portal?"
".No?" said Kane "You said the more energy I get. The safer and more insured it will be. So even if it will work. I think I want to play it safe"
"That is understandable" said Amelia "I hope you can forgive me. But I honestly am super curious to how the process goes"
"….we'll find out eventually" said Kane "How far away are we? For the next temple?"
"We should be journeying towards the coast. I am not positive on the temple exact location. Though I do believe it will be near a body of water" said Amelia "Costa Coral is the coastal city which best matches the description of where the temple may be located"
"Like maybe an underwater one?" said Kane in a slight joking manner
"Possibly" said Amelia as Kara who has been eavesdropping then pipes up
"It sounds like we'll have to take a quick stop at Illumia then if we are going to Costa" said Kara as Amelia now has a look of concern
"Is there not any other way to travel? I have already mapped out possible to circumvent the academy" said Amelia pulling out a map as Kara then takes a look
"Amelia those will make our journey much longer" said Kara as she can tell Amelia is clearly nervous about going nearby the academy as Leanna puts her hand on Amelia's shoulder
"Itll is alright Amelia. From all the research you have gotten. Think of how impressed the professors will be" said Leanna as Amelia's expression soften while being lost in thought "It'll be ok. Really"
"poi poi" said Sky as he jumped onto her feet
"…thank you. Perhaps my feelings towards the field study will be swayed if I show them all what I have gathered" said Amelia as she then picks up Sky again and the gang co tuned their way back towards Ilumia
As Kane walked besides Leanna. He looks at her hand. Then back at his own repeatedly. It's so tempting. To be able to hold her hand again. He debates to himself whether to subtly reach other or not
Thinking he may not have much chances later. He slyly inches closer to her. And when she took notice. Kane held out his hand slightly. She then smiles and responds by subtly taking his hand and continued walking. This went on
Until Kara took notice
"Whats going on…here?" said Kara in a more sly tone as Kane and Leanna immediately retract their arms
"N-Nothing…" said Leanna as Kara rolls her eyes in amusement while the gang continues their way towards Ilumia As Kane then puts his helmet back on
Much later
The gang reached the bustling city once again. Even though Kane was only there once before. He liked being back. Now that he is back here he is sure that Leslie maybe within the inn
"…so are we just passing through or are we taking a quick stop" said Zack
"Well I have people to check with here" said Kara as she then looks at Zack "Mind coming with me" as she then blinks innocently at him. He reluctantly shrugs
"….I would like to looks around more" said Kane
"…" said Amelia still feeling a bit nervous of seeing her professors as Leanna once again gives her a reassuring pat
"Remember Amy. Everything will be fine" said Leanna
"…perhaps it would be good to meet at the inn when all matters are accomplished?" Said Amelia
"Yup" said Zack
"Alrighty. That settled it" said Leanna. Everyone nods to watch other as they all go their separate ways
"…" said Kane as Sky then hops on his foot "Hey boy" as he holds out his hand for Sky to jump on. And then places him on his shoulder. He looks at Leanna making her way as he runs up to catch up to her
"Hey" said Kane
"Oh hey" said Leanna with a smile
"Hwat are you doing?" said Kane
"Since the Mage Guild is here I'm going to file a report. Then do some shopping" saod Leanna "Considering I have to make an update on the energy spike anomalies. We know they are causes by temporal rifts"
"Of course…" said Kane "…you're not gonna mention me in it right?" As Leanna shakes her head
"you are byproduct of it. Not the cause" said Leanna
"…it makes it sound like you are calling me a thing" said Kane jokingly while Leanna lets out a slight giggle
"Well. I'm certainly happy for the thing to come by" said Leanna. That made Kane smile behind his helmet
"Does this Mena you'll be assigned to another task?" said Kane
"Oh not at all. I haven't discovered the cause of the roots. So it will still be counted as ongoing" said Leanna as she then gets a smug look "Why? Are you going to miss me?"

Kane then wanders around the town next. Of course there was Zack and Kara doing whatever. But he felt he would be it awkward as they are doing a lovers mini quest or something

"?" said Kane as Sky then seems to gesture to the way Amelia went. Kane then makes his way over to where he remembered the academy was. Knowing Amelia is most likely heading there. He of course manages to catch her along the way "Hey Amy"
This caught her by surprise
"Oh… hello..." said Amelia with her mind clearly somewhere else
"…Amy. You are capable girl. The professors will have to see that" said Kane

Once the two of them arrived and went past the open gates. Kane could got another good look of the place. This made him think of his training days to an extent. Even though it was structurally very different the purpose was largely similar
While the two of them made their way into the main building. There were fewer students walking around this time.. implying most are in class.. Some of them gave them quick stares of curiosity before resuming their business
"…it seems you are popular here.." said Kane
"Actually. They are staring at you" said Amelia "I am only one of many students. But guests always attract minor attention"

"Hey Sky" said Amelia "We want to go this way" as She leads Kane unto the main building. After a little while of walking. They reach the library of course attracting more brief glances of the many students and staff that happen to be near
Kane noticed the other pangos are just roaming around like earlier. The sight made him smile behind his helmet as he looks at Sky who was giving him a look
"..relax boy. You know your my favorite" said Kane as Sky then returns with a happy smile as they reach the back of the library and enter an office
Where they see a woman with teal flowing hair. She looked to be in her late 30s with those wrinkles
"Professor Odessa" said Amelia as she looked up from her paperwork
"Amelia" said Odessa as she then looks at Kane and raises a brow though his scary appearance gives her slight unease "I see you brought a friend" as Amelia nodded
"Yes. He is one of my travel companions" said Amelia as Odessa then eased upon hearing that
"I see" said Odessa as she then puts her hands together "I'm sure I don't have to explain eat must happen now that you've returned"
"I am aware of the consequence" said Amelia as Odessa gets onto her feet
"The I shall alert the council of your return" said Odessa as Amelia's expression softens. She then leaves a comforting hand on her shoulder "But it's good to see you again"

"Then we shall go. The council is upset. Not without reason. But I will make sure you will have a chance to explain yourself" said Odessa
"the sentiment is much appreciated" said Amelia as Odessa the takes a look at Kane again "As I mentioned. He has accompanied me on my travels. I wish to have him present should the council have any questions"
Odessa nods and she began to leads them through the academy. Stopping at a set of double doors. She then pushes them open and they creak resoundingly. A group of robed professors sitting around a large table
They all nod in greeting as Odessa steps aside to reveal Amelia
"I call upon the council to hear the case if Amelia Estelle" said Odessa as they all take seats. Sky gets nervous and hides further in Kane's hood
"Amelia Estelle. You have left the academy against the will of your professors woth no indication of your whereabouts" said a professor
"I indicated my location within the message I left behind" said Amelia
"Embermyst… the fictional city" said the professor
"With all Sue respect it is a real location" said Amelia
"I hope this doesn't take a while" thought Kane with a deadpan look behind his helmet
"Please take the council seriously. The only permissible departure is if this was on a sanctioned field study" said another professor as Kane can't help but look at his large schnoz nose poking out of the shadow of his hood
"….I hope he doesn't pick that a lot" thought Kane
"Santioned by the academy" said another professor
"I understand. But I must ask. What more could I have done?" said Amelia "My numerous attempts have been repeatedly denied without explanation"
The professors looked at each other as the Schnoz professor speaks again
"Any declination of field studies would be due to poor fit between student and study" he said making Amelia frown
"May I please know how I am a poor fit? I have proven myself to be a sufficient mage caster in ny classes and I have completed all the precautions necessary" said Amelia
"Your maturity level and ability to communicate with your peers is lacking" said Professor Schnoz "Qs your premature departure shows it"
"I do apologize for my actions and removing they were rather unorthodox. However my research have been most enlightening. I qm confident you should hear"
"Amelia I don't know what situation you got yourself in. But it sure doesn't sound like a field study" said the third professor. Amelia was about to let a response only for the professor to hold out his hand to silence her
"I'd recommend listening to what she has to say" said Kane trying to hold his annoyance in catching the professors off guard by his passive aggressive tone
"Well Mr.." said the third professor looking at Kane trying to deduce what he is "Knight mercenary, this is private academy business"
"Professors. He is one of my associates who have accompanied me on my field study" said Amelia "I would request he would be allowed to remain"
"I would like to hear what Amelia has to say" said Odessa as she fixes the professors a stern look stopping them before they could put any more annoying input and gesturing for Amelia to speak. Amelia nods as she collected her thoughts
She looked at Kane who gave a nod of approval. Making her grin and readjusts her posture
"On my journey..I have come across substantial information about the temple of the ancients" said Amelia making Odessa's brows shoot up
"An interesting and unusual subject" said Odessa as Amelia then pulls up her bag.. taking out all of her books of research, scrolls, and sketches.
Kane knew she was one for notes. But he had no idea she was this detailed about it
The professors examine with curiosity
"as you can see from my findings. Using my inner notes from Issim, I have successfully accessed the temples forgotten by society." Said Amelia "Each one has a high concentration of energy"
Odessa grins as she shoots her half moon spectacles up her nose
"Elder issim's research was incomplete" said Odessa
"Correct. I was able to research to orient myself the location of each temple" said Amelia "Ones cloaerr to the area. It was a mixture of cross referencing anecdotes from fellow travelers which helped me pinpoint each exact location"
Kane noticed the professors are listening in slight interests
"for example. The fire temple was located in embermyst" said Amelia while the professors proceed to look over her notes with more curiosity
Kane could tell Amelia has a whispered of a smile now that she had their attention without being talked down
"…I have to admit. The notes are meticulous and impressive…" said the schnoz professor whiel the rest murmured in agreement
Amelia says nothing but she holds her breath
"However. I speak for the group that your research is incomplete" said Odessa "Which means. You shall continue your sanctioned research while we review what you have collected so far"
The professors looked at each other nodded in agreement. Except the schnoz professor. Who then reluctantly nodded when he could feel what he interprets as a possible glare from Kane
Amelia then breaks into a broad grin and eyes full of hope
"Really," said Amelia who is so excited she practically squeals the word out immediately. She claps her hands together to cover her mouth. Her face is now beet red of slight embarrassment
"Despite my better judgment. Your research is most impressive. Therefore we agree" said the 3rd professor
"Then it's settled. You are officially on your filed study assignment for your eligibility to join the rank of Master caster upon successful completion" said Odessa
Amelia then clears her throat
"thank you. This is a great honor" said Amelia as her bags then covers her eyes. Odessa then 9ats her shoulder
"of course. Well done" said Odessa
Kane could still see Amelia is still a bit embarrassed for her outburst while the weasily other professors besides Odessa (in Kane's opinion) seem ruffled. But impressed while he does like how Odessa is most reasonable of the rest
Reminds him of Admiral Pines. For his ability to recognize problems while also giving a chance to fix them
"I think we'll be seeing great things from you miss Estelle" said Odessa as she gestures for flush flush be dismissed
Kane and Amelia then get up and leave the council room
"This is. Of great news" said Kane
"Yes.." said Amelia as she then squeals and then latches onto Kane in a tight hug catching him off guard
"!" said Kane
"Thank you. It wad with your assistance that I finally acquired a field study" said Amelia
Kane still caught off guard for a second then access it and returns the hug for a few more seconds before they separate
"I should thank you actually Amy" said Kane "Without you. We wouldn't have gotten his far at all this quickly. Your talented navigation tells me you are more than qualified for that promotion" said Kane
Amelia is a but stunned hearing words of Admiration. From Kane of all people as she can't help but have a smile while she dusts her outfit off

But while they are starting to head back. Kane then noticed Odessa being visited by another person. Catching his curiosity He then sneaks over at her office and gave a peek. Amelia went ahead not knowing Kane fell behind
Kane could see that Odessa was talking to man clearly her age. A white stripe within his dark hair while wearing a knight's armor. Kane assumes he is probably part of the Mage Guild
Kane smooches a little closer. Seeing the guy's face. His eyes are mismatched with one blue and one brown as Odessa embraces him warmly
"Wrixne! My knight in shining armor is here" said Odessa making Kane recognize who he is. He is one of the great heroes from several years ago
"You're always so dramatic" said the man named Wrixne
"How can I not be when a revered S class mage knight visits little old me?" said Odessa
"That rank pales in comparison to you. The most beautiful and intelligent professor in havengarde" said Wrixne as he wraps an arm around her "So what's the lesson today?"

"now then…. I'll see how Leanna is doing" thought Kane as he assumed Zack and Kara are probably on a date
Kane heads to the marketplace once again getting some stares here and there from anyone that bothered looking at the shops. This felt strangely nostalgic to him already. Though it is getting dark. Kane decided it may be better to head to the inn
As he made his way towards it. He runs into Leanna. She grins as her cheeks flushed as she pauses to catch her breath. Kane could see she has a lot of groceries

If Kane didn't see the groceries in her hand. He would've thought she was offering something.. risqué. But he then remembers she's most likely not that kind of girl

"Nope. This is something I want to do for you" said Leanna as she happily unpacked all the grocers putting multiple things away and getting to work

"So where is Sky right now?" said Leanna curiously while continuing to make the food
"He's with Amy" said Kane "Zack and Kara are doing…'errands' together…. No me sorprenda si empiezan a follar" as Kane let's out a chuckle in the latter
"Um… what does that mean?" Leanna curiously
"Oh nothing really. Just them getting busy" said Kane trying to hold the raunchy undertone in
And then Kane realized what he just emphasized
"Maybe I need more medication" thought Kane "I fell victim to these thoughts again" while he watches Leanna continue with her cooking
A bit later. Kane could smell stew as Leanna brings medium sized pot over
"I think it's ready" said Leanna as she pours some stew into a bowl and gives if to Kane

This time Leanna fully got the context of what he just said after remembering the first word meaning "thank you"
As she then takes the seat across from him as she early watches Kane begin to first blow. And then sip from his spoon
"Soo… what do you think?" said Leanna
"I like it because you make it for me" said Kane "Bueno"
Her cheeks turn pink and hearing his accent makes her giggle slightly
"I'm so glad you like it" said Leanna "What have you been doing since we got here"
"I went to the academy with Amelia. Though most of her professors are imbeciles" said Kane

"They talk down on her. But thankfully there was one nice one. She kept the rest at bay. Believe me. You would be muy enojada" said Kane "But thankfully she got through to them"
"that's good" said Leanna as Kane gestured for her to tell what she has been up to "Well besides groceries. I just filled out a report. That's about it"
Eventually. Kane and Leanna both finish their stew bowls
"I hope you are ready fo-" said Leanna as her face pinches in realization "Oh no! I forgot about the desert!"
"Leanna it's alright. I enjoyed your food" said Kane "Don't worry por favor"
She then gets up
"Hang on. Let me grab some ingredients" said Leanna "I promise it'll just be in a few minutes!"
"Leanna wai-" said Kane as she grabbed her bag and dashed out the door "….oh.."
He hoped she doesn't stress herself out. Kane then looks around the room for a little bit. Without her it's quiet… really quiet

Kane took notice of all the stuffed animals around. Through what caught his eye is the nobility portraits
"…a nobility mage knight… truly I found a gifted woman" thought Kane as he looks at a few more portraits
One in particular is of her as a young girl in a pink dress. To him it looks lime she's changed alot growing up as he then looks at another portrait that clearly was taken years later. With a boy looks just like her. However a bit older
Then. Looking at another where they are in their late teens standing together
Kane then sees Ashely in Leanna's place for a moment before blinking again and ut was just the portrait
"Well that's another similarity…. Albiet. Ashley has a younger brother" thought Kane thinking about Ashely for a moment
He imagined her lightsaber in his hands for a moment. Remembering that was a while ago
"…" thought Kane
"What do you mean she's gone!? You were supposed to protect her!"
Kane imagined a young teenaged boy driving his fist to his gut before snatching Ashley's lightsaber from his hand. And using the force to launch Kane out of the room
"Jayden I-*door shuts*"
"…" muttered Kane as he shook his head and looked at more stopping at a portrait of what looked like her brother being awarded as a mage knight. Kane then looked to see if Leanna has any portraits. Or at least rewards recognizing her for her achievements
Only to find none. Kane deduces she probably has them in a more hush hush area
Then the door opens making Kane flinch
Leanna is now holding a container of strawberries in one hand and a bottle of whipped cream in the other. Kane we quickly heads back into the kitchen to resume an innocent postion
"Sorry to keep you waiting" said Leanna put of breath. Thankfully she didn't notice
"...what are you making?" said Kane as she holds up her finger, grabs a plate, and pours a heap of whipped cream on her plate. She dips a finger in it and then puts it in her mouth. Enjoying the taste then arranges some strawberries on it while circling the whipped cream and eats one
"Oh this is so good! I have a bit of a sweet tooth and this is my favorite combo" saod Leanna
"…I don't think I've ever had this before" said Kane making her stunned at him
"What" said Leanna
"Que?" said Kane
"Repeat that" said Leanna
"that I don't think I ever had it?" said Kane
"HOW!?" said Leanna
"…I don't think I had much opportunity for it…. Lo siento" said Kane as Leanna thinks for a moment. Before regaining a smile
"Then try it" said Leanna "I'll be honored to witness your first taste of it"
"…very well" said Kane as he takes his spoon as she early watches him to try it. Once it entered his mouth. He was surprised
So ripe, creamy, and sweet. Kinda like ice cream but not as cold. And sweeter
"Damn… I can see why you like this.." said Kane "Bien"
She was now satisfied that Kane has finally had a taste. And also remembering all the other stuff he tried when she was around was largely new to him
"Told you" said Leanna "Later on. I'm going to get you to try more things. Because I don't thing you had enough sweets"
"Really?... then I'm glad to have an amazing guide to help me with the best" said Kane makignher cheeks turn pink
They both then proved to eat the rest of that swirled strawberry dessert
"Mucho gracias Leanna" said Kane
"How should I respond to that?" said Leanna remembering that she wants to ask him a bit more about the Spanish language
"Say 'de nada'" said Kane
"Say… nah-dah?" said Leanna as Kane nods
"Now say it a bit faster" said Kane gesturing her to continue
"De nada" said Leanna
"Si. You got it" said Kane making her smile as he looks out the window. It's so much darker "…well.. it is getting late"
"it's not that late—" said Leanna as she quickly masks a yawn before looking sheepish "sorry"
"Don't be. I enjoyed your company a lot. I don't mind doing this more often" said Kane as they both get up and head to door
Kane would've like to stick around longer. But it would've felt improper to him as Leanna leads him to the front door. The soft glow of the crystal casts a warm sunny light over their heads
"Well… goodnight" said Leanna
"Buenos noches Leanna" said Kane as she then gets on her tippy toes. Their faces are much closer
Does he dare? Leanna then pulls him into a hug. Her face is red. She couldn't decide whether to go for it or not. So she decided to play it safe
Kane on the other hand. Imagined would have happened if they did. He is disappointed. But maybe he'll get chance later. When they separate. They wave each other goodbye as Kqne then navigates his way back to the inn
On his way there. Kane started to feel slight regret. Maybe he should've done it anyway. But what would she thought of that
Kane frowns to himself and continues his walking. He pulls out his notebook and begins to write in it for a bit. Eventually stopping when he realized he was close to the inn. So he finishes up writing and heads inside
Though what surprised him is that the others are there waiting for him
"….you guys are still awake" said Kane
"Poi poi" said Sky happy to see him
"We all said we'd meet back here didn't we?" said Kara with her tone light. Kane can definitely see the mischief in her eyes
"The hour is quite late. There was a possibility that harm could've befallen on you" said Amelia
"There was also the possibility that something—or should I say someone had you distracted" said Kara
"Poi po" said Sky
"…I don't know what you mean" said Kane in a somewhat obvious lie
"Speaking of whom. Where is Leanna?" said Zack as Kara pretends to think
"You are right. I haven't seem her all evening" said Kara "you wouldn't have happened to see her would you?"
"Er.. uh.. maybe" said Kane making Kara's eyes twinkle "She has her own place to sleep"
"Uh huh.." said Kara "And how would you know that young man?"
"…you guys go to bed. I'll go to sleep soon after" said Kane
"Don't smoke too much. I don't think she likes it when you do" said Zack knowing what Kane is going to do
"Do not stay up too late. We must depart tomorrow" said Amelia as she heads upstairs with Sky
"Make sure he doesn't go missing with another distraction. Kay?" said Kara as she then catches up to Amelia as Zack then follows Kane to the outside
"Hey" said Zack
"Hola…" said Kane
"If you are going to do that. At least offer me one" said Zack
"Since when do you smoke?" Said Kane
"On occasion. But not very often" said Zack as Kane reluctantly bands him a cigarette and lights it
They both began to sit down for a few moments in silences taking puffs...
"So how was it?" said Zack
"…." Said Kane "it certainly was an interesting evening before coming here"
"And what does that entail?" said Zack
"Some dinner. And twosome strawberries and cream" said Kane making Zack's eyes burst wide open "I doubt it's what you are thinking. I had actual strawberries and cream… I liked it"
"Well. No wonder why you are more open now" said Zack catching Kane by surprise
"..why would you say that?" said Kane
"I don't think you would have told me this a few weeks ago" said Zack
"…guess so" said Kane taking another puff as the two of them then sat in a few more moments of silence before they both felt they had enough if the smoking. And then stomping them out and heading back in
"Thanks Kane" said Zack
"De nada" said Kane
"I don't know what that means" said Zack
"You'll figure it out" said Kane as they both walk back to their room.. though Kane is disappointed he didn't see Leslie today. He is sure he may see her tomorrow
Though as he walked behind Zack. Kane once more had a purple ominous gleam in his eyes before reaching the bedroom
Zack collapses on his bed while Kane sits comfortably on the chair sleeping both began to fall asleep got the next day's adventure now that this detour is over
Kane's notes 7
It's been an fascinating few days now. I find out Zack has a rather similar experience to my own. However. He is too merciful for his own good.
For if that Vayr person has done that to me. He would be dead the soonest I am able to lay a hand. In a way. It reminds me of Rhys. I should never have let him live. I'm so sorry Stan. But either way. Nothing can be done now.
Besides that. Going of Zack's detour. Accompanying Amelia was certainly an interesting experience. Meeting a couple heroes that saved this world. Terra as I believe it is called. And Amelia's annoying professors.
She deserves better treatment. But I have a feeling after our adventure is done. She might get it. And I hope so. As I don't think I would ever gotten this far as with her or Leanna
Zack and Kara are helpful to an extent. But. They like to do their own thing
I thoroughly enjoyed the prospect of more time with Leanna. She is so talented. So beautiful. Every now and then I feel like I must ask her what she thinks of me. And if she'll come if I offer.
Even going so far to make me as comfortable as she could. I feel grateful to have her. I don't want to lose her
Maybe I am just overthinking. Even inviting me to her quarters and making me dinner and dessert felt like a real treat. Maybe I should stay. Stay where she is.
But what the hell do I know? Maybe the Empire is all fixed up and waiting for a return. But maybe not. I don't know
To think about telling her. Should I? Not just what I think. But maybe what I been through.
However it may distract from our objectives
Either way. I hope I'll have a more clear idea later

1: of course there are some references to the prequel story. Death Before Lifw that gives extra context to what Kane is up to in his head
2: I have seen across the Spiderverse. And man did it invigorate my will to write again. After chipping away at this rather slowly
3: throughout my time on FF. I would've never thought I gotten this far on any story. As most authors disappear altogether. I feel lucky that there are like 35 of you that enjoy this story enough to favorite and follow. Thank you. It really means a lot
4: the music I largely listened to when writing this chapter is mostly The Ghost Giant OST, RED, and JOJI
5: I am starting a small collection of vinyl records. Though I am a very picky guy when. It comes to music. I only have 2 as of now. JOJI's Smithereens album and The Ghost Giant OST. Which I had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get the latter

From here on. I am proud to announce that we are reaching the end of Kane's journey. As in 2/3 done maybe more. I don't see this story going further than 5 more chapters as I am largely following the actual story of the game. Then after I reach the end. I plan on doing at least 1 epilogue chapter
Then from there Kane's main story will be in the prequel fic Death Before Life which mainly focuses on his life prior to the events of this story

Play: LEMMiNO – Blackout
A few horse carriages was making its way along a path. From behind the trees lies a few cultists.
"its over there. A load of crystals" said one
"yes… yes…" said the second one as they noticed the carriages get closer "Get onto position"
As a titan knight wearing a black cloak readies himself and his sword and one as the first cultist raises his hand that began to glow
Suddenly the horses were now unstrapped from the carriages and then one of the carriages then gets tipped over by a dark wind
Startling the horses. They then panic and run off
"No the horses!" yelled a mercenary as he pulls out a discharger aiming all over the surroundings areas as more mercs come out of the carriages with their weapons
"What happened!?" said one mercenary as he pulls out his sword
"…go get them. We will provide cover" said the cultist gesturing for the titan then rushed out from the trees charging at the mercs alerting them to his presence
They all began firing which the titan then slices each blast as he got closer using his wind magic to enhance his speed
Slicing past every merc in his way
"eat this!" yelled one throwing a bomb
*boom*
The titan dashes out of the smoke slashing the merc in the chest
"!" said another merc holding out his sword getting a closer look ay the titan
"…you were the guy with the Mage knight lady!" said the mercenary as the as they clash swords before the titan overpowers him knocking down to his feet "!"
*shnk*
The titan pulls out his sword as he notices much of the serving mercenaries flee for their lives
"…..should I go after them?" said the titan
"No… let them have fear.." said the cultist as the other realists forcefully open one of the carriages to reveal boxes of crystals "we only come for the crystals" as he holds in an ominous chuckle
"…one of the mercanaries…" said the titan
"?" said the cultist while the others began putting g all the stolen crystals in a pile
"…he said I was with a mage knight lady… I don't know any" said the titan as hus hood largely covers his helmet. Though his purple glowing eyes are visible despite the shade
"Well…it appears we have someone of similar stature to you.. we don't know his name… but maybe he can be swayed" said the cultist as ll the other form a circle to use their magic on the crystals
"…." Said the titan looking at the city far away
"I'm sure you'll see him eventually…. Kent" said the Cultist as all the crystals disappear and the other cultists signal them to leave
