Journal 24 - Entry 18

We just received the latest intelligence report from the resistance cell in South District 74, the zombies seem to have taken another district. That means they now control 7 full districts. It's starting to get out of control, and we can't exactly spare manpower to deal with it ourselves.

The Shinigami resistance still in the Rukon is made up of a handful of loosely connected cells, with no major line of communication back to Las Noches. We've just been doing what we can in disrupting Wandenreich supply lines, and just generally making life difficult for them. But in the last few months we became much less of a priority to the Quincys when the zombies in the west started showing up.

We still don't know the full details of what's going on over there, but it is clear that this has to be the work of that Sternritter from the Battle of Schatten Bereich, Sternritter Z. We were under the impression that all the original Sternritters were killed in that battle, but it seems this one managed to slip through. Honestly, when you consider her title it isn't that surprising.

Not sure why (nobody's gotten close enough to speak with her), but once she reemerged, she started attacking indiscriminately out in the outer districts of the South Rukon. She still had the body of that Sternritter that fought Captain Komamura, so when she first showed back up, she did it by razing District 71 to the ground.

At first we assumed she was just another Sternritter blowing up a district for shits and giggles, so we sent a team to investigate, but were shocked when they reported that a battalion of soldat led by another Sternritter had been dispatched to confront her. That went poorly for those fools, all they ended up doing was reinforcing her numbers when they got wiped out.

Since then, the Wandenreich have sent quite a few probing attacks against her, but as of right now, they have just attempted to quarantine the districts in an attempt to contain the damage, as further attacks would likely only serve to bolster her own forces. This fact is what makes her so dangerous.

Our intel is very shoddy, as it is nearly impossible to get agents into her territory to scout, but we do know that she was busy in the aftermath of the Fall. She's got quite a few of the original Sternritter as zombies fighting for her.

For the time being, at least, this has actually been advantageous for us. Between her gaining power, the rumored rebellion in the east, the main front in Hueco Mundo, Major Tomioka's faction made up of remnants of the 3rd and 6th dug into the Jerall Mountains in the south, and our guerilla ops in the districts, the Wandenreich are stretched thin. The fact that they are dealing with so many issues, is a major reason they haven't been able to just wipe us off the map.

Just last week however, the worst case scenario occurred. The Wandenreich attempted the first full scale suppression attempt since the first one, this time with multiple Sternritters, and significantly more men. That was when that bitch revealed her trump card. I don't know how she got her hands on his remains, but her trump card was Captain Hirako. This fact is utterly disastrous. His Bankai in the hands of someone who simply doesn't have any allies is a worst case scenario. It's likely that the Quincy will have to devote at least one, possibly multiple Schutzstaffel to be able to actually deal with her, but they need them to keep the special threats like Ichigo Kurosaki and Sosuke Aizen in check, so sparing one for this is difficult.

Right now she seems to at least be smart enough to not advance too quickly and maintain a territory in such a way that the Wandenreich are able to leave them be, but they are still forced to maintain a perimeter around her territory, and that's still a drain on their resources. For the time being her existence is advantageous to us, but the number of souls that have been lost in the districts she's taken is still bad, and her power is truly monstrous.

If… no, when we are able to take back the Rukon, the Gotei will need to deal with her ourselves, and that is something I do not look forward to. All we can do now is maintain surveillance on the area, and gather as much information as we can for the day that we need to confront her. Maybe we will get lucky and the Quincy will deal with her right before we are able to break into the Rukon, and finish them off when they are weakened. That's probably a pipe dream though. Considering how poorly everything has gone since this war started, I don't think us getting that lucky is in the cards.

Of course, even with that, we have to continue to deal with what we have been since the beginning, and that's our new Quincy overlords being tyrannical bastards. The more well-off souls near the top districts have gotten off pretty easily by bowing to their rule, but the further out you get, the worse it gets. In the middle districts it can be pretty split with a lot of people thinking the Quincy were a positive influence improving their quality of life. Of course this may be true, but it only happened because they were willing to accept their rule and get it from the exploitation of people in the districts further out, or they are just doing it out of pure fear of what might happen to them if they do not.

The middle districts are a powder keg, and we need to continue to tread lightly on what districts we make moves in.

Either way, I need to try and get a report about this to Las Noches, the Head Captain at least needs to know of this faction's existence, as well as what happened to Captain Hirako. I know the Head Captain's going to be pissed about that, there really isn't anything we can do for the time being.

Just another problem to add to this shitshow of a war.

Author's Notes:

New chapter! A shorter one, I know. Fate/GO has absorbed all my time, between the new Lostbelt and the event. Something I want to make clear, I will not just drop this fic without saying anything. Even if there is a long break between updates, as long as I haven't said anything, it will update eventually. I hate it when fics randomly just die, so I don't want to do that.

Anyway, this chapter goes into a bit more detail about the resistance that is still going on within the districts, specifically focusing on a certain former Sternritter. I mentioned she had a couple other zombified OG Sternritter, sorry, but I'm not going to say (yet). But they aren't particularly powerful ones. Low to mid tier at best. Zombie Shinji and Bambietta are her most powerful zombies.

As for what I mean by "Lambda Group", if you were wondering, it's just the name assigned to his specific resistance cell.

Thanks for reading!
