VI: A Time to Create
Motoyuki Daigo, found himself being yanked out of his cell. It wasn't really a cell, more of a bolted down, operating bed surrounded by black wall to ceiling boards. His feet were tied down, as were his arms and his mouth was muzzled as well; he couldn't activate his quirk! His quirk required his hands to be touching the object; but as he looked for his hands, his wrists had been dislocated and the same with his fingers.
He had no idea where he was or where the others were, he gulped as the boards, peeled back and two people entered "Please! I have nothing, I'm totally useless." He squealed his voice muffled by the muzzle.
"Motoyuki Daigo, Quirk: Molten Core, can create mass explosions that rival the destructive power of a volcano. It also says you're cheating on your wife, and you're wrong. You don't have nothing, nor are you completely useless. In fact, you've got what we've been looking for…a very powerful quirk, squandered." Daigo gulped.
More muffled protestations were heard. Under his surgical garb, Kato smirked. This power, the ultimate decider, the hold over life and death, it was intoxicating, listening to a former bully, who had no idea who was doing this to him. "Is he ready?"
"He's ready. Cut him loose." To Daigo's surprise his bonds were free.
"I changed my mind, you're not worth this. You're free to go." Daigo bolted, he didn't care that he was naked save for his underwear. The signs dictated the exit and like a bat out of hell, he ran. His heart pumping madly, sweat flowing freely from the pores in his skin. He went left, right, then left and left again; only to find a purple foggy mass in front of him; Daigo couldn't care. He plunged through the swirling, broiling mass of purple and black shadow only to find himself where he was.
Fear, set in, his face and body went white. He was dead "Oh no Motoyuki-san, we don't want you dead; in fact, we need you alive. What we need from you, is well you."
Motoyuki tried to shuffle away, only to scream in pain as black and red tendrils pierced his hands. His eyes widened and another scream, as his body began to heat up; he vaguely remembered the water crashing down on him.
All For One smiled "Molten Core…An immensely powerful quirk, one not quite for Tomura…yet; although one worth duplicating."
"That was the plan. I have a plan for him." Kato stated.
"Make a duplicate of him, leave him dead in a ditch. No-one'll miss him save for his wife; whom if I'm right won't be much that sad anyway…Three of them are single and one lives with his sister. Besides it'll make things much more…fun." Kato murmured as the body was placed on a trolley before being warped away.
"Come, my apprentice, let me show you how I make the Nomu."
With that the duo vanished, through a few corridors before finding the body. The room they were in had one sheet of blacked out glass, behind the glass were the other five victims.
They watched in horror as their former school peer whilst still awake was attached to drips linked to a bright blueish green liquid. They could hear every word down in the operating theatre "First off, this, is a rather potent steroid, protein serum. It drastically alters the physical side of the Nomu; making it bigger, stronger."
"Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger in essence. In essence it's a botched steroid injection programme."
"That is the ugliest way to describe it but yes. After we flood his body with the serum; I know the blandest and trope-like way of calling it…Yes, I am slowly picking up modern day slang…"
"Doctor, I apologise for everything and nothing. Anyway, the points of injection?"
"Hands, Feet, Chest and Mouth."
"I was going to make a joke about getting nailed; but rather bad taste. Anyway, the procedure?"
It turned out the serum was only used to increase what used to be Motoyuki, he was now nine-foot-tall; blue and quite frankly a muscled beast. "We have to do further surgeries; which if you're not fully abled you'll not be able to do. We need to decompose and re-construct his entire skeletal system, then we graft quirks onto them either from whatever stock you have or we create one."
"Creating a quirk?" Kyudai asked curiously.
"Creating a brand-new synthesized quirk…we can clone a sheep, we can create life, why can't we?"
Kyudai paused as he locked eyes with his apprentice "How quickly can it be done?"
Kato shrugged "Theoretically, if we can isolate the quirk-factor from the genetic influences then…yeah. It'd take time…But nothing wrong with just filling lump of flesh with enough quirks hoping for some sort of compatibility."
"Now watch and learn."
Kato, turned slightly green as Kyudai effortlessly and seamlessly operated on the much-mutated skeleton, strengthening it, stretching it and reconnecting… it…should be paralysed? I mean this is…this unreal. I mean, oh boy…How are you making…"
"Simple my boy, we looked at your work. It can be done, sorry about the mice and the sabotage…We didn't want to." Kyudai began cutting Kato Daiten off.
"How."
"It's not what you're thinking. This is a case of breaking and destroying then re-creating the spinal cord; nowhere near as advanced as to what you're investigating." Kyudai responded, immediately settling some of the understandable build up of anger.
Kato was reeling "What other parts of my research and theories have you…acquired?"
"Everything, our young talent. We're villains, the three of us, it's only logical that we seek to hold blackmail over each other…Remember young Daiten, villains and heroes…"
"Are all merely perspective. I'm a villain for deciding to push for assistance amongst the remaining 20% of the world population, I'm also a villain for trying 'to play god'…" Kato looked at the professor "I…don't care what I have to do; I don't care what soldiers you and I will create. The world robbed me of my legs, through Endeavour, the world spat on me the moment I was diagnosed as Quirkless." Kyudai looked at his apprentice and as old brown eyes stared into hardened brown eyes, Kyudai trembled slightly. There was something in his apprentice, something or someone else; the ever-pleasant scented mask of a polite, troubled medical-researcher and UA Medical Staff Assistant, something that could become an extremely dangerous tyrant.
"Now then, now that I've broken down and re-attached the skeletal system. Even without a quirk, this, marvellous piece of biotechnical engineering is extraordinarily dangerous, its au natural strength tops that of eight regular exercisers."
"This thing will beat eight generic health conscious Yamada Taro and Yamada Hanako…What about heroes?"
"He will, comfortably, beat any number of minor Pro-Heroes. However, what we're planning to do is make him able to contend with the Big Pros the Top-10. This Nomu, is your Nomu, is your project. I want to see what you can think of."
"Okay, let's start with Molten Core…It is used primarily in the hands to heat up an area upto well molten temperatures and with training the molten mess could be used as projectiles. If placed under considerable strain as you suggested in your quirk-evolution paper, it could awaken allowing for wider-area melting and potential minor telekinetic magma manipulation. So all in all intense heat and pyrokinesis. If you add a stockpile, enhancement or a quirk allowing to double the potency if Molten Core you could theoretically create a quirk called 'Pyroclasm'…the destructive heatwave and power of an erupting volcano, recoil will be a bitch though. To negate that a shock-absorption, nullification would be needed than incorporated are spring-like limbs, that way Nomu Motoyuki might actually be useful. That's just one combination."
Kyudai nodded "I…like your thinking. Just what is your dislike over super-regeneration? You were…extremely distasteful."
"Regeneration of the body requires cells to divide. Cells are not infinite; thus, Super-Regenerative Nomu run the risk of breaking down due to lack of divisible cells; something that is very likely to occur when throwing down with Major Pro Heroes. What's the aim of these things?"
"To be able to match and surpass heroes."
"Unfortunately, you want or need more time to perfect them…Simple, simple idea four tiers of Nomu: Low, Medium, Upper, High. Low Tier Nomu: give them accelerated healing and a negation quirk and Trope Brick physical body. Medium Tier: Make them unique but on the foundation of a healing and negation quirk. Upper-Tier: This is where we unleash the more potent ones and then finally High Tier. For the High Tier, they need to be a spectacle, unique, beautifully monstrous and monstrously beautiful; these are the ones that require careful planning. And if we can, make sure they can keep their intelligence. Nothing makes people scared of Monsters, more than monsters that can think. You don't happen to have any Raptor DNA?"
"No, we do not…Although that is a most interesting idea but no…Come, come, let us finish making your first Nomu."
Behind the screen, the remaining survivors gulped "We're dead."
"Is this really because we treated him like shit?"
"Yes and no. Yes we did treat him like shit but we never used our quirks on him; but then remember he was caught at ground zero with Endeavour having a tantrum; now my youngest loves that hero…Me, I'm no fan. Although I am going to be very interested in what Kato, is going to do."
(Sidestep to UA)
Nemuri Kayama, smiled to herself. She praised her self on being the life of the party; the risqué entertainer and the one to investigate the boundaries of acceptable behaviour.
"Congratulations to you and Kato." Aizawa Shota, Eraserhead, murmured.
"I've gotta say, you Kayama as a mother, is something I'd not put odds on." Declared Yamada Hizashi, thankfully, restraining his quirk for the most part.
"I'll work until the doctors say I can't do anymore. Kato is simply the best; he doesn't have a clue as to what he's getting into, neither do I. But I have the faith that our little one is going to be okay." "Providing, Kato open up. I'm letting it go as he seems to be on top of things…Nemuri, think…"
"Shota." She called as the Underground Hero, who was slouching away from her stopped.
"Yes?"
Nemuri stopped "I'd like you to be one of the god-parents, also I, I need you to me a massive, massive favour."
Aizawa turned, he cocked his head. Midnight had been there for him since forever. She'd given him his head start as a sidekick in 'Team Purple Revolution' from there he created his own agency 'Dry-Eyes', coupled with the fact that there seemed to be a constant supply of eye-drop bundles outside the door was a giveaway. In fact, the eye-drop company had asked him to endorse them and he hadn't noticed the pay check for endorsing them. Seeing her face, wracked with guilt and concern "You need me to investigate your other half? You want it on the down low, off the books."
Kayama snorted "Off the books to begin with. I'm nervous, recently he's been driven; far too driven."
Aizawa chuckled "Daiten Kato, has always been driven. The fact he managed to win a full-ride scholarship to UAU. Are there any other names?"
"Kyudai-sensei or Ujiko-sensei."
Aizawa grinned at her "Names are often a very good starting point. Even if it's a family name."
Nemuri smiled at Aizawa "Kato-kun occasionally talks in his sleep. They're the only names he's given. Although there was a call at very early in the morning; Kato sounded rattled and very, very annoyed."
Aizawa nodded "He works as a researcher, he doesn't have the strain or tolerance to immediately clock awake, but if you can get this…" He pulled out a memory card. "This…into his phone; it effectively duplicates the phone."
"Allowing for you to access his phone data; phone calls and messages."
Aizawa nodded "If he doesn't use his phone, you might want to place this in the computer." With that he pulled out a pen-drive.
"Exact same thing, unless…" Nemuri smirked.
"That's not going to work. Kato's computer is one for gaming and work. Mainly games."
Aizawa groaned "Gaming PC's are annoying. It'll still work, its just going to take me longer."
Nemuri let out a content sigh, pulled Aizawa into a hug "Thank you, Shota…I mean it."
Aizawa smiled at her "Of course, I'll be a guardian should anything happen to you and or Kato. Although, why?"
Nemuri took a deep breath "I have a sinking suspicion that we're going to find out. And when the new gets out…fireworks, international fireworks, riots, protests potentially even revolution. The man behind all evil, quirkless." With that she let out a forced laugh, one similarly echoed by Aizawa.
"And the people he was overthrowing the previous behind the scenes villains for over two hundred years."
