Quirks not Required

IX: Well…shit

Kato wheeled himself out of the pub, his face implacable but on the inside he was an utter mess. He'd just spent the last three hours in conversation with Shigaraki Tomura; a man-child with several screws loose.

"Talk about a major loose cannon. That man-child will be any psychologist and psychiatric fucking daydream. You don't have to be Bones to realise that boy is several shades of fucked up. But if Sensei wants me to sleep with Shigaraki Jr, then sleep with him I shall. Thankfully, that Nomu ain't mine." The cab rolled up, and Hyuga Neji jumped out and assisted Kato into the cab.

Kato's face morphed into a scowl "That impudent shit, he who hath no ability to milk his serpent, thinks he can give me orders. But, the world's a stage and the crooked and the straight are merely players. But, this should be fun."

Nemuri was waiting outside, with three heroes. One of whom was dressed in white; his two associates one was blue and one looked like a centipede. "Kato, how was your meeting?" Nemuri wasn't officially in the know of Kato's schemes but she knew he was in deep.

"Guy was an absolute crackpot. Now who are these three?" A massive understatement on Kato's part.

The blue-skinned girl smiled "I'm Bubble Girl, and these are Sir Nighteye and Centipeder, we need to ask you some questions." Kato looked at her, she'd make an interesting base for a Nomu.

Kato looked at Nighteye "You worked for All Might, didn't you?" He knew the white-dressed hero looked familiar.

"I did, do you have a problem with that?" Nighteye retorted. He'd come to Daiten Kato as his name had come up in several of his investigations. Quite frankly he thought the paraplegic knew more about All Might's problems and Nighteye was obsessed with damage control.

Kato sighed and looked at him "I have multiple problems and doing Q&A's with heroes is but one of them. Don't even bother using your quirk on me, why don't you use it to do something useful like getting laid." Green eyes locked onto Brown. Nighteye was onto him for something, it seemed his name was coming up a lot; it wouldn't be long until a well-placed hero went at him. "Oh those fireworks were going to be spectacular."

"You realise I can haul you in for that comment." It was an empty threat; if heroes brought in every slanderer then nothing would be done.

"Do that and let's see what happens, lanky. What do you want to know?" Kato snapped, his goodwill was long gone. Nemuri sighed, she loved Kato she really did. She'd taken on some of his mannerisms in her own career; it was always fun watching heroes and villains be rendered speechless with a few well-placed retorts.

Nighteye stopped "I overstayed my welcome, Daiten-san, my apologies for this interruption and unnecessary trauma."

"Call and make an appointment. I'll send you my hours when you can contact me." It was a polite enough request, well, as polite Kato could be without being an ass hole.

Nighteye nodded and his sidekicks flowed like lambs. "Was that really necessary? Nighteye's a decent man."

Kato sighed "He's an egotistical, obsessive All Might rentboy; whose claim to fame is a once-per-day supposed future sight quirk."

"A supposed future sight? What do you mean?" the smile Nemuri gave was one that made Kato shiver slightly.

"There's no concrete evidence of any diving type quirk; anyone who possesses a 'divining' is full of shit. My guess, Nighteye looks at someone and sees every single bio-electrical pulse from the CNS to whatever system in the body, it is done at such speed it makes Nighteye think he's reading someone's future. In all honesty, he probably reads one person like a book, they think he's read their future, thus forcing the reaction Nighteye wants. It's a clever scam, really, really clever."

Nemuri grinned "If that is you're correct. Besides, have you got a witty retort, if you're wrong?"

Kato smiled "I'll admit I'm wrong. It'll irk me to know end having to apologise to that sycophant admirer of All Might." His eyes glittered "Please don't hit me or even over-react, you know I love you with my cold beating heart."

Kayama smiled, her tongue "Is this about that cute blue-skinned sidekick?" Kato's jaw dropped, Nemuri giggled "You, sly sly dog. But yes she is rather attractive; I'd not be opposed but I don't want to share."

"Then we won't. Doesn't mean I can't embarrass the underworld out of her."

"You're absolutely horrid. You're not going to embarrass her for the fact she works for Nighteye."

"I've better things to do...Besides, I start at UA tomorrow. Anything I need to know?"

"Be you, don't allow anyone to push you around." Nemuri stopped, realising what she'd just said, but Kato grinned at her.

"I was hoping you'd start making the jokes. But anyway, time for us to rest for dealing with hormonally charged quirked children awaits."

(Next morning)

"Excuse me, doctor!" Kato looked up from his research to see a tall powerfully built teen with engines in his legs, with a rather plump looking girl with paw-like-tips on her fingers.

"Please tell me none of you have been stupid and are now having a teenaged baby?" The girl blushed red, and the boy turned purple with outrage.

"How dare you say such a thing! That goes completely…"

"I don't care. If none of you are injured, she's not pregnant then you don't need to fucking worry. Unless you want a medical file started, the medical file will help me stick you back together again." Kato cut in smoothly.

"We're here to check on Deku."

"Deku? I'm sorry for the kid that has that name, let me check the body-list." With that Kato, glided across the room to a monitor in the corner.

"Sorry, I've got, no-one by the name of Deku registered as an entry. Got another name? A family name?"

"Daiten-kun; are you giving the hero students a hard time?" Came the kind but steely voice of Recovery Girl.

"Depends, RG. It really depends on what you call a hard time. They barge into your domain, where I'm supervising the bodies; I make a harmless quip, tall and broad their tries to jump down my throat and girly there starts calling after some corpse by the name of Deku. There may or may not have been questions about starting a medical file."

Recovery Girl sighed "The person they're referring to is one, Midoriya Izuku; what am I going to do about your acerbic nature."

"Ah, Midoriya Izuku aka Deku, I'll update the file…Sweet Kami, he's already been in due to a broken finger tip, two broken legs; three broken arms...I'm thinking we're going to need a plaque for his bed...Okay, I'm sorry for that joke; it's I've got three good women who are always coming in overnight for a week or so resort stay due to health concerns. They think my bedside tact is wonderful; yes insensitive but coming from me it's perfectly fine." Kato replied.

"Doctor, may I ask...what is your quirk? I'm, Uraraka Ochako…"

"Daiten Kato, Quirk: Acerbic-Mannerisms. Your immediate probing of quirks can and will land you in trouble Miss Zero-Gravity. Don't look so shocked; look at where we are. I tolerate stupidity, heroes-in-training breaking themselves, losing their clothing etc. But I don't like pre-heroes digging into my life. I get enough of that due to the association of working here."

Uraraka paled, the words had their desired effect "Have you any idea of who I am?" The boy retaliated.

"An obstruction to my medical duties; I am going to have to politely ask you to leave...or must I give you an extremely blunt explanation, hero-student? Get the fuck out of my hospital and do not return unless broken or learnt manners."

The boy strode out with the words 'I'm telling my parents about you.'

"Can you tell Midoriya-kun to get well soon...I'm going to calm him down."

"That, Uraraka-chan, I can do." With that the girl left.

Kato let out a tense sigh of relief "Well, that went horribly."

"You don't say...UA, gets away with a lot but that might be pushing it." Recovery Girl replied as the duo examined Midoriya Izuku.

"Recovery Girl, I am really, really not liking these readings I'm finding about Midoriya Izuku; I'm reading at least eleven years worth of scar and burn tissue all over his body; there's also the fact that his entire body is showing signs of stress-fractures, there's so much I can't tell how much is recent and how much is old. There is also the fact that before his application to UA, he was said to be Quirkless; yet all the readings display he's got a quirk and one that is ill-fitting to his body."

Recovery Girl looked at her colleague "What are you suggesting?"

Kato looked at her "I can do some digging, at my other job, I know an exceptional Genealogist and a Geneticist to find out more about Midoriya Izuku. I would also strongly recommend bringing in Mother and Father Midoriya to get to the bottom of this, because these fresh burn marks are very much identical to the others. I've checked the files for anyone that could possibly do such a thing with their quirk and only one name stood out after narrowing it down...Katsuki Bakugo."

Recovery Girl nodded "Keep a paper-trail, not saying the HPSC won't get involved but it might be worth keeping this above board. I know you Daiten-kun; I know you very well. I know that since the incident that your cerebral functions and neuropathways have altered you; giving you…"

"Symptoms and readings of a high-functioning sociopath or psychopath; with a penchant for unravelling mysteries much like Arthur Conan Doyle's creation. I am well aware of my flaws." Kato rubbed his hands through his hair.

As they were talking, they were interrupted by Kato's phone. "So sorry, my bet that's sensei."

He pulled his phone out to see a familiar number "Daiten Kato, speaking."
"We need to meet." Came the provoking and probing voice of the Man-Child.

"Excuse me? You've got the wrong number." With that he hung up. "Time to teach that little shit a lesson, consider his healing revoked."

"Problem?"

"Wrong number."

(League of Villains)

Shigaraki howled in fury and disintegrated the disposable phone "How dare he...How dare he disrespect me; that impudent legless and quirkless piece of filth."

"Now, now, Tomura-kun; I can personally assure you that Daiten Kato is firmly on your side. He has very good reasons for not getting in contact with you; because he hasn't deigned to meet you does not mean he will not."

"Yes, sensei. But why? You have the Doctor nearby you at all times."

There was a deep chuckle "Garaki and I, have been colleagues and friends for a long time my boy; the relationship you're expecting is one that is cultivated and nurtured and not immediately."

Shigaraki Tomura, Shimura Tenko, grudgingly nodded "I've received a memo about All Might being at something known as the USJ; one of your plants is meeting me to give me the information, I'm going to need a distraction."

"Do not jeopardize my inside man, Young Master; he has had his cover nearly blown before even meeting you. I suspect he's been compromised but I rightly cannot confirm this. No, Shigaraki…I do not need confirmation. I fully anticipate my successor has a plan and will contact you should anything change."

Shigaraki jr, nodded "As you say doctor." Then over the computer screen two phones began to buzz as the 'Imperial March' began to play.

"Sensei, Friend-of-Sensei's-Successor, I have some good news, bad news and some awful news...What do you want first?"

"Awful." The reply came from the Senior Doctor.

"What is your friend's successor's major malfunction? Does he not read his bloody emails, if not get him too. I explicitly state DO NOT CALL ME ON SPECIFIC DAYS. Anyway, bad news is All Might's sycophant sidekick is sniffing around my atrophying ass-crack about chemical theft; any geniuses want to fill me in on that? Good news, I need a genealogist, geneticist and a project started. I can hear you salivating successor; the answer is no, I'm not giving you a damn thing until I'm convinced its ready. Besides, my sensei's got ample super-monsters to supply you with. You'll get mine, when I'm ready capiche?"

"Capiche." Shigaraki growled before hanging up. Garaki grinned "Need Kurogiri to pick you up?"

"No, I don't. What I need is an audience with the Emperor, Lord Hand."

"Granted, my apprentice."
