#06 – Bond
After seeing Finney and his daughter were cared for, he authorized shore-leave parties but remained aboard himself, thrilled to simply be with his ship, after genuinely believing for a while that he might never sit in the Captain's chair again.

It was not until later that ship's evening, while catching up on paperwork, that he came across a document in the temporary storage folder reserved for his command staff: a Starfleet resignation notice, left undated but with the clarification that it would be put into effect immediately, in the event of his court-martial deciding a verdict of guilty.
