p lang="en" style="margin-bottom: 0.35cm; line-height: 115%;"span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"span style="font-size: xx-small;"Evie pulled the white blanket up under her chin, refusing to meet the kind dark eyes of Dr Shannon. They'd already examined her and topped her up on pain killers. A broken wrist, cut eyebrow and bruises were her most obvious injuries. By now all the doctors and nurses knew she'd been raped. She'd wanted to hide it. She didn't want to have to go over everything and tell everyone the horrible details. She wanted to go back to the library and bury her head in a book and pretend her life hadn't completely changed. She'd read about heroines in stories going through terrible things. Sometimes she'd envied their exciting lives and their ability to always overcome whatever it was they were going through. But this was real life. And real life was so different. Real life hurt. And real life went on forever. It couldn't be open and shut like a novel. It just opened. And never ended./span/span/p
p lang="en" style="margin-bottom: 0.35cm; line-height: 115%;"span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"span style="font-size: xx-small;"Evie realised Dr Shannon was still waiting for an answer, a soft smile gracing the beautiful woman's lips. Would anyone ever think she was beautiful now? She doubted it. She'd never really been pretty to begin with. She was taller than average, thin, with dark curls and brown eyes. She got her fair share of interest from men before but it was usually fatherly concern due to what people described her as having an innocence and kindness about her. She doubted any man was going to look her as anything other than a victim now. /span/span/p
p lang="en" style="margin-bottom: 0.35cm; line-height: 115%;"span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"span style="font-size: xx-small;"Evie nodded slowly. "That's fine." /span/span/p

p lang="en" style="margin-bottom: 0.35cm; line-height: 115%;"span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"span style="font-size: xx-small;"Evie felt a lump rise in her throat. Why did this have to happen to her? Why hadn't she heard him break into her house? Why hadn't she been stronger? Why did it have to be Commander Taylor that had to find her? He was an imposing enough man and now he'd seen how weak she really was. She couldn't even stop herself getting raped. What a fool the Commander must think she was. To ruin his perfect colony by going down in history as the first rape in Terra Nova. She would apologise to him when she was better. Maybe that would get rid of the gnawing guilt inside of her./span/span/p

A tear escaped her eye and she quickly wiped it away with her good hand. She knew Wash was a formidable fighter. She would have easily fought the man if it had been her. "Dammit!" A few civilians passing by looked at her then quickly turned away. Wash didn't worry about apologising. Kindness and patience weren't her strong points. That was something she'd always admired Evie for. She'd never been in to the library to see her but she'd plenty from Mark Reynolds because his girlfriend Maddie Shannon was always in there reading and researching and had told him how helpful Evie was, how patient and thoughtful. She couldn't believe anyone would want to hurt her. Whoever it was she was going to make his life hell when she found him. /span/span/p
