Chapter 12 - Visions Pt. 2
The room was dark, the only light filtering through the high window was the soft glow of the sunset. Elaine sat next to Cassiopeia, her fingers feeling the familiar texture of her robes.
Cassiopeia, with her dark eyes and wavy hair, sat quietly glancing over at Elaine. Cassiopeia could see that her 'soon to be friend' was lost in her own thoughts. Elaine's blonde hair cascaded around her face in soft waves, partially shielding her green eyes. While Elaine possessed an otherworldly beauty, it often seemed as if she was unaware of it, her focus consumed by the world she saw through her seer abilities.
The door creaked open and Severus Snape stepped in, his long black hair falling over his eyes. He looked around the room, his eyes landing on Cassiopeia first, before flicking over to the unknown girl sitting next to her.
"Severus," Cassiopeia greeted, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. She gestured to the empty seat beside her. "Sit. We need to talk."
Severus took a seat, his gaze shifting between the two girls. "Who's your friend, Cassy?" he asked, his tone neutral.
"This is Elaine Addams," Cassiopeia replied, gesturing to the blonde girl next to her. "She's... special."
Elaine lifted her head, her gaze meeting Severus' for the first time. He could see a strange ethereal glow in her eyes, making him feel uneasy but intrigued at the same time.
"She's a Seer, Severus," Cassiopeia said, her voice dropping to a whisper. "And she has seen things about us."
Severus looked between the two girls, his confusion giving way to curiosity. "What kind of things?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Elaine offered him a small smile, her fingers ceasing their movement on her arm. "Visions," she replied. "Visions that might change the way we see our future."
Meanwhile, the Gryffindor common room was alive with the cheerful chatter of students. James Potter sat in one of the plush armchairs by the fireplace. He had just received a reply letter from his parents earlier this morning, and the content had put him in an exceptionally good mood.
As James reread the letter, a smile formed on his face. His hazel eyes twinkled with excitement as he imagined the possibilities that lay ahead. His parents had expressed their happiness for him and Severus Snape, recognizing Severus as James' soulmate. They were eager to meet Severus and had extended an invitation for him to join them during the upcoming Yule holiday.
James couldn't contain his excitement. He imagined how wonderful it would be for Severus to meet his parents, to witness the genuine happiness they felt for their son. It was a validation of his feelings and a reassurance that he was on the right path. He also wanted to show his room to Severus and maybe even fly around together on his broomstick around their property.
Lost in his thoughts, James was startled by his best friend Sirius Black's voice. "Hey, James! What's with that goofy smile on your face?" Sirius called out, his eyes gleaming with curiosity.
James looked up, breaking free from his thoughts, and grinned at Sirius. "I was just rereading the letter I got from my parents," he replied, his voice filled with excitement. "They're thrilled about Severus and me. They want to meet him during the Yule holidays!"
Sirius raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "Oh, really? So, you were daydreaming about Severus, huh? Looks like you're down bad, mate," he teased, nudging James with his elbow.
Remus and Chance joined them, curious about the conversation. Remus wore his usual calm expression, while Chance had a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"What's all the commotion about?" Remus asked, glancing between James and Sirius.
"Our Jamie here was just daydreaming about his beloved Severus," Sirius said, winking at James.
James rolled his eyes playfully, the blush creeping up his cheeks. "Oh, shut it, Black. We were talking about my parents inviting Severus over for the holidays. It's a big deal, you know!"
Chance grinned mischievously. "A Gryffindor head over heels with a Slytherin. Who would've thought?"
James chuckled, his ego not the least bit fazed by their teasing. "Well, my friends, get used to it because Severus is a part of my life, and I couldn't be happier about it."
The Gryffindor common room erupted in laughter as James, Sirius, Remus, and Chance settled down to plan their next prank. But in the back of James' mind, he couldn't wait to find Severus and share the good news.
In an unused classroom, the air heavy with the scent of dust and old parchment. Elaine Addams, the Hufflepuff girl with her wavy blonde hair falling over her shoulders, was sat across from the Slytherin duo, Cassiopeia Black and Severus Snape.
Severus, with his long straight hair and black eyes, was looking at Elaine with a skeptical expression. He wasn't entirely convinced that Elaine was a true Seer, he was more inclined to believe in proof and tangible results. But Cassiopeia, his trusted friend and fellow Slytherin, seemed to believe Elaine, and so Severus was willing to give the girl a chance.
"You said you have visions," Severus started, his voice as smooth as silk yet cold as ice. "Visions of the future."
Elaine nodded, her green eyes earnest. "Yes, and they involve you, Cassy, and myself."
Cassiopeia watched the exchange with rapt attention. She was the one who had asked Severus to hear Elaine out, her dark eyes intrigued by the prospect of a Seer in their midst.
"I saw us," Elaine continued, her voice hesitant at first, but growing in confidence as she went on. "I saw us as friends, hiding in a dark old room I didn't recognize... It was cold and wooden, like an old house or shack."
Severus glanced at Cassy, who nodded, encouraging Elaine to continue.
"And then I saw us again, running frantically in the Forbidden Forest," Elaine's voice quivered at the memory. "There were masked wizards chasing us, trying to hurt us... kill us. We were dueling for our lives. But then the vision ended."
There was silence in the room as Elaine finished her tale. Her heart was pounding in her chest, but she felt as though a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. She had finally shared her visions, her secrets, with the others.
"I want to prevent this," Elaine added, her gaze never leaving Severus's. "Or at least change it before it's too late. That's why I approached you."
Severus was quiet for a moment, his eyes flicking to his friend Cassy. She was staring at Elaine, her dark eyes filled with a sense of urgency. He sighed, leaning back in his chair. He still wasn't entirely convinced, but he couldn't ignore the sincerity in Elaine's voice, nor the conviction in Cassy's eyes.
"Alright, Addams," he finally said, his voice softer than before. "We'll listen. And we'll see if we can change this future of yours."
After Elaine had left the empty classroom, Severus turned to Cassiopeia with a questioning expression on his face. "Cassy, why do you trust her?" he asked, his voice laced with curiosity and a hint of skepticism.
Cassiopeia leaned forward, her dark eyes meeting Severus's gaze. She took a deep breath, considering her words carefully before she spoke. "Severus, there's something I haven't told you yet," she began, her voice quiet yet resolute. "Elaine knows what my soulmate mark is."
Severus's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Your soulmate mark? But you've never spoken about it to anyone except your brothers, no?"
Cassy nodded, her expression serious. "Yes, that's true. But Elaine knew about it. She even described it correctly when I asked her a second time to make sure she wasn't lying or bluffing."
Severus's skepticism wavered slightly as he absorbed this information. Soulmate marks were unique to each individual, and Cassy had been particularly guarded about hers. The fact that Elaine knew about it without Cassy ever mentioning it, proved that she was telling the truth.
Severus studied Cassy's face, his eyes searching for any sign of deception. But all he found was honesty and a flicker of vulnerability. He realized that Cassy was holding back something important, and he respected her decision to share only what she felt comfortable with.
Cassy continued, her voice gaining strength once again. "Besides, Severus, there are rumors circulating about a dark lord rising I heard from my cousin, Andy. It's unsettling, to say the least. And it seems to align with Elaine's visions of dark wizards trying to harm students. Call it a hunch or instinct, but something tells me that there might be a connection."
Severus's skepticism began to give way to a sense of cautious curiosity. If her instincts were leading her to trust Elaine, perhaps there was more to the Hufflepuff girl than met the eye. Plus, Elaine seemed like the type of person who can't lie.
"I trust your judgment, Cassy," Severus finally admitted, a note of sincerity in his voice. "If you believe in Elaine, then I'm willing to give her a chance. We'll work together to uncover the truth behind her visions and see if we can alter the course of the future she saw."
A small smile tugged at the corners of Cassy's lips. She reached out and gently placed her hand on Severus's, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Thank you, Severus. I knew I could count on you."
Severus nodded, a flicker of determination in his own eyes. Together, they would navigate the mysteries of Elaine's visions, their shared secrets, and the darkness that loomed on the horizon.
Elaine Addams had barely finished sharing her uncanny secret with Cassiopeia and Severus when she found herself being swept up in another vision. This time, it wasn't a scene unfolding in her dreams, but one that was triggered by a simple brush against a painting.
She was making her way back to the Hufflepuff common room, her thoughts still swirling from her recent admission, when she stumbled. As her hand shot out to steady herself, her fingers grazed the surface of a nearby painting. It was a seemingly innocent depiction of a golden cauldron pot surrounded by different types of magical plants.
Without warning, her vision blurred and the world around her shifted. A garden appeared before her, a riot of colors and magical creatures. She could hear the fluttering of wings, the soft padding of paws, and the gentle rustling of leaves. Unicorns grazed peacefully, their silver manes glinting in the sunlight. Centaurs roamed freely, their hooves digging into the soft earth. And there, right behind them, loomed a massive maze, its walls so high that Elaine couldn't see where they ended.
Images flitted through her mind like ripples on a lake. A hidden trap door. A key in the shape of a serpent. And at the heart of the maze, a secret waiting to be discovered. But before she could focus on any of these details, the vision abruptly shifted.
Elaine found herself in a warm, cozy kitchen. The scent of baked goods filled the air, and she could hear the soft hum of a familiar tune. Slowly, she turned to face the woman standing at the counter, her back towards Elaine. Something about her seemed comforting, like a long-lost memory on the cusp of resurfacing.
The woman began to turn, anticipation building in Elaine's chest. But before she could catch a glimpse of her face, the vision shattered like glass. Pain seared through Elaine's head, causing her to gasp and stumble backward. She collapsed onto the floor beside the painting, clutching her temples as she tried to catch her breath.
This was new. She had never before had a vision triggered by physical contact. Her heart pounded in her chest as she tried to make sense of what she had seen.
The hallways of Hogwarts were suddenly too loud, too bright. She needed space to think, to process. With a shaky breath, she pushed herself off the wall and continued on her way to the Hufflepuff common room. She needed to analyze this new development, to understand why her visions were changing and what these new ones could possibly mean.
As she walked, her mind was a whirl of questions. The magical beasts, the endless maze, the unknown woman in the kitchen... What did it all mean? And more importantly, what was causing this shift in her Seer abilities? These questions swirled around her mind as she retreated to her room, ready to dissect each fragment of her visions and search for the answers locked within them.
