Marinette spent at least a few days in the hospital to heal up. She would call her friends almost every day about her recovery, Lois, Lex and Clark would even visit her. Lex told Marinette that Chloe would pay for her trick; he threatened to sue Audrey if she refused to pay for the hospital bills. His threat worked; not only did Audrey pay the hospital bills but she also banned Chloe from attending the Wayne Gala that they would be going to in a week. Lois had been calling her lawyers, Marinette's great uncle, Cheng Sifu and even her grandparents about Marinette's situation.
Clark was Marinette's most frequent visitor; he came by with flowers, gifts, and he even gave Marinette her sketchbook too. She liked having Clark over most of the time, especially when he brought his son, Jon Kent over one time for her to meet. She and Jon hit it off pretty well, they would talk and play simple board games. One day, during her last stay in the hospital, Jon came to visit Marinette and this time he brought a friend with him. When Marinette looked up to face Jon, her heart skipped a beat seeing Jon's friend. The guy was around her age with tan skin, black hair, and emerald, green eyes that shimmered in the light.
"Hey Marinette, this is Damian. I hope you don't mind that I brought him along." Jon stated.
She stammered out a yes then her cheeks turned bright red feeling so embarrassed. But Damian didn't seem to mind, he mostly kept a poker face on the whole visit. After the visit ended, the doctor came in to tell Marinette that she will be discharged tomorrow morning. When she became the guardian, Marinette had been unlocking new powers to the Ladybug miraculous. One of her powers was advanced healing; what would have taken months to heal was being healed within the time she had been in the hospital. Once the doctor had left the room, Tikki flew out of her hiding spot to talk to Marinette.
"Are you ok, Marinette?" Tikki asked.
"I'm fine, Tikki. Just wasn't expecting Chloe or being in the hospital. So far, my new start in a new city is going great." Marinette stated, sarcastically.
For the rest of the night, she and Tikki continued chatting away until something unexpected happened. Just as she was about to fall asleep, she heard a sudden explosion that wasn't far from the hospital. She got up from her bed and looked out the window to see the Justice League fighting a more powerful Poison Ivy. Her powers and plants were deadlier and stronger than before. Marinette insistently knew how Ivy had gotten more powerful; she had been akumatized by Hawkmoth. Marinette wasn't sure how Hawkmoth was here in America, but she wasn't going to sit by and watch the chaos grow.
Marinette transformed into Ladybug except her costume was different; instead of it being a vibrant red jumpsuit it was a dark maroon dress with black spots and pants with maroon boots, her hair was in a ponytail instead of her pigtails. Ladybug snuck out of the hospital and swung towards the battle that was happening. Most of the Justice League was struggling to deal with the new and improved Poison Ivy and her plants. Ladybug used her yo-yo to lasso Ivy who was on a giant carnivorous plant and got her to stay put. She managed to capture the akuma then she used the power of creation to restore all the damage that Ivy had caused.
Ivy snapped out of her rage, but she didn't remember her rampage or how she got to Metropolis in the first place. Ladybug couldn't stick around for another second since she didn't want to come across the Justice League. She managed to make a clean getaway without any reporters or heroes seeing her, at least so she thought. Just as she was making her way to the hospital, she got ambushed by Robin himself. "What are you?!" he ordered.
"I'm not at liberty to discuss my identity to a walking traffic light." Marinette snapped.
That hit a nerve within Robin when she called him a traffic light. Robin charged at Ladybug with his blade while she used her yo-yo to defend herself from his attacks. She managed to use what little time she had left to get Robin off her trail then she snuck back into her hospital room. She detransformed by into Marinette then she gave Tikki a cookie. "Tikki, tell me I did not just fight Batman's sidekick." Marinette asked in a worried tone.
"Well..." Tikki spoke.
"Who am I kidding? Ladybug can't be seen in America! Batman is the World's Greatest Detective, he'll find out about what's been going on in Paris, my identity, Cat Noir's identity! And with Hawk Moth here, it's only going to get worse." Marinette stated in a panic.
Her thoughts about her interaction with Robin replayed in her head throughout the night. The next morning, Clark and Lex came to pick Marinette and bring her to her new home. They brought Marinette to their home where she was welcomed with open arms. Even her grandparents and uncle were there as well. After Lois explained everything to them, they all immediately rushed to America to help her. Cheng Sifu told her that he was very disappointed with Sabine's actions and for her believing a stranger over her own child. Her grandparents have given Clark and Lex full custody of Marinette but on the condition that they can visit her.
For the first time in a long while, Marinette felt truly happy and free from all the toxic people in her old life. Lex even made a spare room for all of Marinette's sewing gear and even the sewing box where she hid the miracle box. As soon as Lex left the room, all of the kwamis came out of the box, grateful to see their guardian again. She would even be starting in a new school called Gotham Academy.
