It was when Izuku tried to use Raijin's blessing again the next day that he realized the gods had been extremely quiet since his visit to the shrine. Or, more specifically, since he told them to be quiet.

"Are you guys mad?" he asked tentatively.

No pop-ups. Were they actually mad over something so minor?

"I'm sorry for telling you guys to be quiet. I was just really excited about meeting Present Mic. I'm so sorry!" If they ignore him forever, he wondered if he would still be able to use his quirk.

Amaterasu begrudgingly accepts your apology

Raijin glares at you and warns you it better not happen again

Izuku laughed nervously. "Um…I won't," he said. "So, Raijin, can you tell me about your power?"

Raijin says his power is the strongest in the world, and that you can take over the world with just one percent of it.

"Ha…" That explained nothing, but Izuku still jotted it down in his new quirk analysis notebook. "Here I go, I guess."

He hadn't used up any of his thirty minutes yet today. He wondered if he can only use thirty minutes of both god's powers, or thirty minutes each. This might be a good time to try it out.

Taking a deep breath, he cautiously raised his hand and tried to summon Raijin's power, whatever that may be.

A torrent of electricity surged out of his hand, making its way to Izuku's metal water bottle where it remained for a few seconds before fizzling out. Izuku gasped.

"Woah! That's so cool!" He quickly wrote down what happened before he forgets, and raised his hand to try again.

"Izuku, I brought you some fruit!" Like usual, she didn't knock on Izuku's half-open door and pushed in.

"Mom?" He tried to stop the electricity, but it was too late, and it had shot out of his hand and toward his desk. This time, the area of effect was much bigger, and part of his desk made a quiet hissing noise.

Something shattered. Izuku looked over, finding the plate his mom had been holding fractured on the floor. "Izuku! What happened? Are you hurt?"

"I'm fine! That was my quirk! See?" He showed him his hand, which hadn't been hurt by the electricity at all. It just felt slightly tingly, like static.

"Oh honey," she said, placing a hand over her heart. "Thank goodness. I thought you said your quirk was light."

"That's my quirk too! This is Raijin's power. The light is from Amaterasu."

"Like the gods?"

"Yeah! It's cool, right?"

She smiled. "Yes, very cool," she agreed, looking slightly pale. "You're going to be an amazing hero, I'm sure of it."

Izuku happily chatted to his mom about his quirk, glad to have someone other than his notebook and the weird gods to talk to about it. Afterward, they sat down on his bed with his library book, reading through some of the entries he hadn't been able to read. A part of him wished he showed his mom sooner.

When it was time to have lunch, his mom put down the book and got to her feet. "Let's go get your quirk registered tomorrow," she said.

"Quirk registration?"

"Yes, silly. Everyone has to do it, remember?" she said with a smile. "We'll see a quirk specialist and they'll put your quirk in the registry."

He'd been so busy trying to figure out what his quirk even was that he'd completely forgotten. What was he going to put down? The electricity or the light?

"Don't worry, it's nothing scary. When I did it, it only took an hour," she comforted. "I showed them my quirk and they made some notes, and that was that."

"That's fine then," he said with relief. It might even be fun. All his classmates had gone through it, after all.

"Oh, and before I forget," she said, handing him a bill. "Your allowance for the week. Be careful with it."

"Thank you, mom!" His allowance was 500 yen, enough for him to buy some snacks after school. He usually saved it to buy All Might merch though, and he'd just spent three month's worth on a figurine.

A blue pop-up appeared suddenly as soon as he touched the money.

Would you like to pay 500 yen as an offering? [y][n]

Eh? But 500 yen was all he had.

Amaterasu eyes the money with interest.

Raijin also looks on attentively.

Izuku clutched his money tightly. This made no sense! Didn't they get enough money as offerings? Why'd they have to take his? He needed it to buy new All Might merch!

Amaterasu sighs in disappointment and slouches on her seat

Raijin pouts and glares at you

"Oh, fine," he grumbled. It was only because of them that he even had a quirk, and they had been extremely helpful to him. His weekly allowance was a small price to pay.

He pressed yes.

Your offering has been accepted.

The store has been unlocked.

Store?

Would you like to open the store? [y][n]

He clicked yes, this time with more enthusiasm.

The blue box shifted, showing six smaller boxes filled with images. Five of them had a lock icon on them and were greyed out. Izuku looked at the only one without the lock.

Rusted Iron Ring: Extends use of powers for an extra thirty minutes.

Izuku perked up. That was exactly what he was looking for. He looked at the price.

10,000 yen! That's like, a million years of his allowance! He wanted to buy the limited-time All Might poster too.

"Can't I have a discount? It's just a rusty ring," he mumbled.

No

"What happened to your money?"

Izuku just stared at his mom sadly.

"Don't tell me you already lost it."

He was too upset to respond.

The day of the quirk assessment came quickly. His mom came to pick him up at school to take him to the quirk hospital.

The gods were strangely chatty on the way, and would tell Izuku random facts about the city and the people passing by. None of it sounded important, but he still nodded along, just to be polite.

Raijin looks at the man in the suit and snickers.

Izuku froze and stared at the man in question. He looked completely normal. "What?" That was different from their other comments.

Raijin says he's going to trip over a rock in a second.

"Huh?" Izuku stopped in his tracks and stared.

The man was looking at his phone as he walked, not paying any attention to his surroundings when suddenly, he tripped over a small rock and fell on his face.

"Ugh. Ouch," he grumbled, picking himself up. "Stupid rock."

"Wow!" It actually happened. Izuku vowed to take Raijin's ramblings a little more seriously from now on.

Raijin laughs uproariously.

Amaterasu rolls her eyes and calls Raijin childish.

Raijin tells Amaterasu to loosen up, and that judging mortals is fun.

"What's wrong, Izuku?"

"Nothing, Mom," he answered, tearing his gaze from the still cursing man and started waking again.

"Hey, can you guys see the future?" he whispered when his mom looked away.

Of course, Raijin says smugly. Want another example?

Izuku nodded.

That woman over there is going to be in a car accident in a few days.

Sure enough, there was a woman in front of Izuku, holding the hands of two kids. She looked the same age as his mom.

Amaterasu glares at Raijin and says they aren't allowed to give out information like that.

Raijin pouts and says he just wanted to show off.

"I need to warn her," Izuku said, taking a step over.

"Izuku?"

"I…"

You cannot, Amaterasu warns. She is destined to get hurt. If you try to change it, it'll happen anyway, and you'll be punished for changing fate.

"But I…"

"Anxious about the quirk assessment?" his mom asked, smiling at Izuku. "Don't worry. I'll be with you the entire time."

"No, I…I'm not worried," he said. "I just have to…"

"Let's keep walking, then. We're blocking the sidewalk."

"O-okay," he said. The woman and her kids had walked away now, too far for Izuku to reach. What was the point of learning that if Izuku couldn't do anything about it?

He scowled.

Amaterasu apologizes and tells you that they can still tell you information you can use.

Raijin nods.

"Like what?"

Like how that woman is going to slap that man over there because he called her a *****

"What's a *****?"

"Excuse me, Izuku? Where'd you learn that word?" his mom asked. At the same time, a woman slapped a man, yelling some words Izuku didn't know.

"Wow!"

Raijin grins and asks if you thought that was cool.

"It's kind of useless."

"Goodness. Don't look, Izuku. What is going on today," she said, quickly leading him away. "We're almost there. Don't say that word again, okay? It's not a good word."

"Okay, sorry Mom," he said.

By the time they got to the quirk registration building, Izuku was feeling far less enthusiastic. The gods kept bombarding him with other less than useful information about everyone they passed, and now he had a huge headache.

"What's wrong? Are you feeling sick? We can do this another day if you are," his mom said, feeling his forehead.

"I'm okay. I want to do it!" There was no way he was going to give up on registering his quirk for something so dumb.

"Okay. It really shouldn't take that long," she said, glancing at the number card in her hands.

"Midoriya Izuku?" a nurse called.

Izuku shot up. "That's me!"

The nurse smiled at him. "Follow me. The doctor is ready for you."

He practically sprinted after the nurse, eager to get it over with.

She lead them to a small office at the end of the hall, where an old doctor with glasses and a mustache was sitting. He smiled at Izuku the moment he entered.

"Hello there, Midoriya. I'm Doctor Tsu—"

Amaterasu yells at you to back away.

Raijin says that the doctor is a fake and that he has bad intentions.

Huh? But it was just an old doctor.

Amaterasu commands you to get away, now.

Izuku hesitated.

"Something wrong?"

Now!"

All of a sudden, Izuku felt his entire body fill with a deep sense of dread and wrongness. And the instinct to get away, now!

"M-mom, I…I…" He clutched his mom's sleeve tightly and took a tiny step back.

"Oh, you look so pale! I thought you said you were fine."

"Mommy, let's go," he said, pulling at her.

She took in Izuku's terrified expression and nodded. "Sorry about this, Doctor Tsubasa," she apologized.

"Of course. It's no problem. You can come in another day," he said with a genial smile. "This happens more often than you think."

"Thank you for your understanding," she said with a bow.

"What happened?" she asked the moment they were out of the office.

"The gods told me that man is bad," he said shakily.

"Oh…well…"

"Can I get my quirk registered with another doctor?" he asked.

His mom looked extremely tired for a second, then she sighed and wrapped Izuku up in a hug.

"Of course. I'll go ask the receptionist. Stay here."

Izuku nodded.

"What was that?" he whispered. "What was wrong with that doctor?"

Amaterasu says she can't tell you.

Raijin wants you to know that he's bad news and that you're instincts must be terrible if you can't feel it.

"I did feel it, kinda," he protested. "After…a few seconds. It felt really bad."

Because we forced it on you, dummy, Raijin scolds. Get your self-preservation instincts up to par, or you're going to get yourself hurt.

"What? You can do that? Make me feel things?"

Raijin nodded and says they won't do it unless it was necessary.

"Wow. Um…that's kind of creepy," he mumbled. He'd heard of quirks that gave people better reflexes or the ability to sense danger, but this was something else entirely, wasn't it?

His mom was back before he could get too freaked out, and she had a small smile on her face.

"Good news, Izuku, there's another doctor with a free opening," she said. "Do you want to do it now or come back another time?"

"I wanna do it now," he said. He didn't want their plans to be derailed because of one bad doctor. Not that he had any real proof that he was a bad doctor, but the gods hadn't led him astray yet.

"Let's go, then. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, tell me and we'll go home, alright?" she said, patting his head.

"Okay." It was such a relief his mom never questioned him on anything. If the gods decided to throw a fit over the new doctor, he'd be able to leave without question. It would just be really annoying.

"Midoriya Izuku? Over here. We're ready for you," a nurse called.

"That's us."

The new doctor was a young woman, one that looked just as unsuspicious as the last. She smiled at Izuku when they entered her office.

"Hi there. I'm Doctor Suzuki," she said. "This is a bit last minute, but I see on your file that your quirk manifested last week. And it's…electricity based?"

His mom nodded, looking far more enthusiastic than Izuku felt. "It came in so late that I was getting worried," she said with a smile. "My quirk is telekinesis, and his father can breathe fire. Seeing him with electricity was such a shock."

"Children having different quirks from their parents isn't unheard of," Suzuki said. "Maybe he skipped a generation, or two."

Raijin sighs in relief. He declares the woman as safe.

Izuku held back laughter. Was that why they've been so quiet? Because they were trying to see if she was evil?

Amaterasu nods in agreement. She says you can show off your quirk without worry.

"My quirk is light too! I can make light," he said proudly. "Wanna see?" He saved up all his minutes for today just for this.

"Light?" his mom asked with a frown. "But I saw…"

"I can do both! Can I do it now?" He was starting to feel excited about the prospect of showing off his quirk to someone new, the awful things that occurred before this finally fading from his mind.

"Only a little bit, okay? We can do further, more extensive testing later if needed."

"Okay!" Sticking his tongue out in concentration, he called out the electricity and the light at the same time. They both came out at once in a burst of sparks, frying the doctor's computer and making the room so bright everything turned white. "Oh oops!" Abort. Abort! He called his quirk back immediately, but the damage had been done.

"I'm sorry," he said guiltily. Maybe he should've tried both at least once at home before this.

His mom and the doctor were both blinking at the drastic change in brightness, and Izuku's eyes hurt in sympathy. He'd been through his fair share of those when he first started practicing with his quirk.

"It's…alright," she said, rubbing her eyes. "Was that just a little bit of your quirk? Or…a lot?"

"Sorry, I got excited," he mumbled, looking at his hands in shame. What was he thinking? He should've just done a little bit of light or electricity, or even that barrier. "That was a lot stronger than it usually is."

"Can you show me what it's usually like?" She glanced at her smoking computer and winced before looking back at Izuku.

"Yeah!" He perked up, eager to redeem himself, and made the slightest bit of light appear in a small ball. It came out a little bigger than he meant to.

"Great. That's perfect," she said, looking at his hands. "And the electricity is separate?"

"Yeah."

"Can you control existing electricity or just create it?"

"I dunno. I've only had it for a few days," he said. "I can control my own though."

"Can you show me that as well? Or will it fry my computer again?"

"It might," he said, scratching his head. "Sometimes, it flies away and hits random stuff in my room."

"Well, try to do a little bit then. Not the fireworks like earlier, please."

Izuku nodded and focused again, calling as little electricity as he could. It was always so unpredictable.

Luckily, it decided to listen this time, and only a tiny bit came out.

"Fantastic!" She beamed at him, and Izuku let the electricity vanish. "I'll put you down as light and electricity manipulation for now, but you can come back and update it if you find out more. A lot of kids think they have two quirks when in reality it's just one with two different appearances. Like energy manipulation, or something like that. You'll figure out if that's the case soon enough."

Izuku really doubted that, but he nodded. "Okay. Thank you."

She scribbled something down on her clipboard. "You're officially registered! Congratulations! What an amazing quirk. I'm sure you can be a great hero with it, if that's what you want to do. But what kid doesn't?"

"You think so?"

She nodded. "Of course. I'll give your mom some pamphlets for quirk counseling that's specialized for yours," she said, rummaging through her filing cabinet. "Ah…where is it… Aha. Found it."

"Quirk counseling? Don't we do that at school?" He hadn't gone yet, but everyone else had. He'd just sit in the classroom and wait in the meantime; it really sucked.

"Yes, of course, but it's very generalized since it's for every kid with every possible quirk," she said, handing over a small stack of paper to his mom. "The ones here are more specific, and for more volatile quirks."

"I've never had to do these when I was a kid," she said, flipping through them curiously.

"Well, this is more of a new thing, what with quirks becoming stronger and more complex than before," she explained. "Your son's quirk definitely looks to be one of them…"

"I see," she said, looking shocked. "Wow. This is a lot to take in. Just last week, little Izuku was still quirkless, and now he has two?"

The doctor just smiled. "Electricity quirks are very sought after. Even if he doesn't want to be a hero, he can find other jobs easily," she said. "You must be proud."

"Well, yes, that's true, but I think he has his sights on becoming a hero, isn't that right?" she said, smiling at Izuku.

Izuku nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! I wanna be like All Might!"

Raijin snorts and says you can be a hundred times stronger than that guy with just 0.1 percent of his powers

Izuku giggled. Raijin was so full of himself, but he appreciated the encouragement.

"I'm sure you will," she said. "Now, do you have any questions or concerns before we wrap up?"

"Nope! Thank you, doctor," he said, grinning widely at her. She was so nice. He was so glad he switched to her from the other doctor.

"Yes, thank you very much," his mom said, wiping her eyes. "I'm so proud of you, Izuku."

"Of course."

"I'm really sorry about your computer!" Izuku added.

"It happens more often than you think. Every time I get an electric-based quirk something like this happens," she grumbled. "I should do the testing in another room."

Izuku sighed in relief. Thank god he wasn't the first.
