Chapter 3: The Perfect Tool
Admiral Wright sat at her desk, poring over the reports on Mason Becker's past missions and activities. As she read through each document, she couldn't help but be awed by the sheer lethality and skill displayed by the agent. In almost every scenario, Mason had proven himself to be a formidable force, capable of taking down insurrectionist cells with ruthless precision.
"He's different from any other agent we've fielded," she muttered to herself, marvelling at the level of aggression and efficiency Mason displayed on the field. "Truly a force to be reckoned with."
Indeed, Mason Becker's unique abilities and unwavering loyalty to ONI made him stand out among his peers. His cold and calculated demeanor, coupled with his unmatched combat skills, made him an invaluable asset to the organization. If circumstances were different, he would have been a perfect candidate for the Spartan 4 program, the next generation of super-soldiers.
Admiral Wright couldn't help but consider the possibilities if Mason had become a Spartan 4. With his heightened physical abilities and combat expertise, he would have been virtually unstoppable. He could have been the perfect tool for ONI, replacing a certain hyperlethal Spartan that had been lost during the Fall of Reach.
But she also knew that the consequences of Mason discovering the truth about his wife's death were too great to risk. The level of aggression and brutality he had displayed during the incident with his father was evidence of the darkness that lay within him. If he were to learn the truth about Olivia's death and the potential involvement of the UNSC leadership's failure, there would be no telling what he might do.
"He could become a force of destruction beyond our control," Admiral Wright whispered, the weight of the situation heavy on her shoulders. "We must do everything in our power to prevent him from finding out."
As she continued to read through the reports, one thing became clear: Mason Becker was a man driven by his past and his sense of duty. His loyalty to ONI and his dedication to the cause were unwavering, making him a formidable ally. But at the same time, his past traumas and the loss of his loved ones had left him scarred and vengeful.
"He's a weapon," Admiral Wright mused. "A weapon we can't afford to lose control of."
In the depths of her mind, she wondered if there was any way to contain the darkness within Mason while still harnessing his skills for ONI's benefit. But deep down, she knew that it was a risk they couldn't take.
"We must protect him from himself," she said resolutely, making a difficult decision. "We must keep him in the dark, shield him from the truth at all costs."
Admiral Wright knew that the path ahead would be treacherous, but she was determined to do whatever it took to keep Mason Becker on their side. As she closed the reports, she couldn't help but feel a sense of dread for what the future might hold.
"May we find a way to keep him in the shadows," she murmured, "and prevent the darkness within him from consuming us all."
