Chapter 4
Megan sighed as she snuggled into her pillow. This had been the best sleep she had ever had since learning she was going to work with the rogues.
The woman shuddered as something ran along the bottom of her back tickling the skin. She squirmed away from it, but it continued to follow. Opening her eyes, her pillow was moving.
Megan looked up to see Loki smiling at her.
"Good morning, darling." He said with a smile while still running a finger left and right of where skin showed between her shorts and shirt.
Megan's face went bright red. "Loki, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep on you. Please forgive me."
The woman sat up in shock. Loki chucked and rose to sit beside her.
Megan stared at her legs praying the ground would open and swallow her up. Loki reached over and raised her chin forcing her to look at him.
"Do not fret, darling. I could leave any time I want to." Loki said while running a finger down her face.
"Loki?" Megan said turning even brighter red.
"Join me for breakfast? It starts in thirty minutes." Loki asked with a tilt of his head.
Megan nodded.
Loki's smirk widened. "Good. Shower and prepare. I will wait for you outside at 6."
He rose from the bed and kissed her hand. "I look forward to this meal, my queen."
With a wave of his hand, he disappeared. Megan stared at her hand for a second before giggling. She hopped up and started the shower. Looking at her closet, she pulled out a dress. She had wanted to wear it for a while and had not had the opportunity to. Today seemed like a good day and if Loki happened to like it then that was bonus points for her.
ELSEWHERE
"So, we are all in agreement?" Tony said with a frown.
Carol sighed. "Yes. I already cleared it with the counsel and showed them the evidence. They weren't happy getting up this early but, after reviewing the footage, they all agreed. Have you talked to the other three liaisons?"
"Yes. They all agreed. Major Jasper Knox is the one who requested Captain America. He served in the Army for several years. Would have signed up for a fourth term if he had not been injured in his last term. I think having a male work with Captain America would be better than a female. I warned them and showed footage of what they were getting into. I think it upset them more at seeing the disrespect and the injury to Miss. Stone. They wanted to reject the bonus they would receive for taking one of the rogues on." Rodney said in anger.
Dr. Strange sighed. "One of their own was targeted and hurt. The Liaisons have formed a support group to deal with the drama that comes with working with superheroes. They will not let Barnes, Maximoff or Rogers get away with this. We will need to watch them closely."
Tony sighed, "Agreed."
"Mr. Stark, Miss. Stone, and Mr. Loki are walking up the path for breakfast. Should I send them to you?" Friday asked.
"Yes Friday. Please do. Can you contact Major Knox, Agent Winfield, and Agent Wisely to report to Conference Room 1?" Tony asked.
"Yes sir." Friday said.
A few minutes later a knock sounded.
"Come in." Carol said.
The door opened revealing Miss. Stone and Loki.
"Come on in you two. We need to speak with Miss. Stone." Rodney said with a smile.
"Sir, Agents Winfield, Wisely and Major Knox are on their way. Should I have breakfast sent to you?" Friday asked.
Tony smiled. "That would be perfect, Friday. Enough for 9 please."
"Yes Sir. The cook said he would have eggs, bacon, biscuits, gravy, and toast there in 30 minutes. If anyone has any special requests to please let me know so I may relay it to him by 6. He will include coffee, orange juice, white milk, and chocolate milk for drinks." Friday said with a smile.
"I knew I hired that cook for a reason. Man is a genius with food." Tony said with a smile.
"Tony." Carol said motioning to Megan and Loki who stood there waiting to be addressed. Megan was fidgeting in nerves while Loki watched them with a glint in his eye daring them to make Megan cry. They would not like the consequences.
"I owe you an apology, Miss. Stone." Tony said with a sigh.
"An apology? For what Mr. Stark?" Megan said unsure.
Tony laughed bitterly. "Please call me Tony. After everything I put you through, it's the least you deserve from me."
"What Tony is trying to say without saying it is that we as the leaders of the avengers should not have let you take all the rogues. It was irresponsible of us, and we are correcting that mistake." Rodney said with a smile.
"You will only be working with only three of the Rogues. Romanoff, Wilson, and Lang will be three of your people. We have two other people coming next week. A mutant from Texas and a woman from Ohio who can move things with her mind. That will give you five people to work with." Carol said with a smile.
Megan's face went pink. "I'm sorry I failed at helping all of them."
Dr. Strange sighed. "You have nothing to be sorry for. Tony warned us of the issues with that group. We should have listened better. Do not worry about your pay dropping either. You are still taking on three rogues so your pay will remain the same. May I see your wrist please?"
Megan nodded her head raising her wrist for the doctor to look at.
"What about the other three?" She asked.
Dr. Strange waved his hand and an image of Megan's arm appeared above it.
"That bone is definitely broken. Dr. Ferdinand did good on resetting it. It will take a while to heal." Dr. Strange muttered frowning before releasing Megan's arm.
The group looked toward the door as someone knocked. In walked Major Knox, Agent Winfield, and Agent Wisely.
"Good morning, Breakfast will be here soon." Tony said with a smile.
Megan turned to the other three people who were standing there waiting. She missed the angry looks on their faces at seeing the blue cast.
"I'm sorry you are helping with this. I thought I could handle it." Megan said with a frown and bit her lip.
"Don't apologize. We saw the videos. You did everything you could. Now they are going to meet some tougher liaisons who don't put up with screaming like a child. They will wish they were back with you when we are through." Major Knox said with a smirk.
Agent Janice Winfield smiled and patted the younger woman's arms. "This is your first big assignment since coming here. I am impressed what you did get done."
Agent Zacharia Wisely smirked. "The three of us are seasoned agents and have served in some military aspect. We will be able to handle them. You focus on the other three. Just out of curiosity, any word on the winter soldier?"
Tony nodded his head. "I was informed by Wakanda doctors that they have managed to isolate and destroy the words that make him turn killing machine. Major Matthew Gibs has agreed to take the man under his wing since Gibs also suffered from torture and PTSD. I think that Barnes will heal with Gibs helping him. The man should be here sometime next week."
"Room service." A voice called jokingly called out.
Several trays were pushed in, and the group got their food. The next hour and a half were spent chatting and waiting for Friday to inform them when the rogues were eating and done with breakfast. This meeting was going to be bad, and Tony could already see the trouble coming.
Cafeteria
Steve and the others had finished breakfast but still had an hour before the appointments started. A security officer walked over to the group. "Your whole group is to report to Conference Room 1 right now."
The man walked away quickly. He did not want to be near the Slovakian witch. She gave him the creeps.
Natasha glared at Steve. "This is all your fault. I hope your happy."
Clint frowned. "Not his fault if the baby whined to Tony and the others."
Natasha shook her head. She was surrounded by morons.
The group walked in and froze at Loki sitting by Miss. Stone with Tony Stark on the other side. Natasha and Scott's faces paled at seeing the blue cast on Megan's wrist. This was not good.
"Tony, I knew you would fix all this. It really was irresponsibly for you to abandon us." Steve said with a smile.
Tony stark glared at Steve. "The only irresponsible thing I ever did was suggesting that Miss. Stone could handle all of you. That has been fixed."
Captain Davis frowned, "I suggest you all get over here now. Keep your mouth shut, Rogers."
The group walked in worried about what was about to occur.
"A change has been made to your schedules today. Mrs. Romanoff, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Lang will be meeting with the psychiatrists this morning. Miss. Stone will remain your representative in the Avenger program. She will lead you three upstairs now. I expect proper behavior from you three as Miss. Stone is doing everything in her power to ensure that Mr. Lang does not go to jail, and Mrs. Romanoff does not get deported to Russia. Do you understand me?" Rhodes said with a frown.
The three quickly agreed with Rhodes.
Natasha sighed. She wasn't an idiot. This was obviously a clear warning that they had reached the end of patience from the group. It seems that Sam and Scott realized as well.
Tony nodded at the woman. She and Loki rose leading the three away who followed quietly. Steve, Wanda, and Clint moved to the door but froze when they were called back.
"I didn't dismiss you three. Sit down now." Captain Davis said in anger.
"Ma'am, aren't we supposed to report to the gym for training if we don't meet with the psychologist this morning?" Steve said with a glare.
Captain Davis's nose wrinkled in anger. "Your training time in the gym has been cancelled for the day."
"Well, what do you want then? Did the crybaby come running to you because we said some hurtful words?" Clint said with a snarl.
Tony scoffed. "No idiot. Friday witnessed everything and reported it to all of us. I was only notified because I recommended Miss. Stone. Woman has the patience of a saint but you three have really done it. You made a good agent want to quit from just having to work with you three. Rogers broke a bone in her wrist. She is going to be in a cast for a while as that bone heals."
"Tony, that's not fair. The rules and regulations she was trying to oppose…" Steve tried to say.
"Have been sanctioned by the counsel and approved by over 50 superheroes from all over the world. You would know this if you had read the email sent to you asking to be part of the counsel for reviewing the rules for the Avengers compounds that are going all over the world before the civil war." Tony said angrily.
"This is not why we are here." Captain Rhodes said with a sigh.
The man turned to look at them. "As of this moment, Miss. Stone is no longer the Liaison for you three. You three have been reassigned to these agents."
"Now hold on a minute. That's not fair." Steve said in shock.
"It doesn't matter what is fair. It's obviously clear that Miss. Stone can not stand against you three when you get going and she shouldn't have to. You, Rogers, injured her. That is a strike against you for hurting someone of staff. You need to stop expecting us to bow to your demands because your Captain America. This is getting ridiculous." Said a man wearing a black shirt with a beret military hat on his head.
"That is correct, Major." Dr. Strange said. The man turned to glare at the group.
"We have already gotten approval from the counsel. They were happy to agree when they saw how you three acted to Miss. Stone." Captain Rhoads said with a huff. "Major Jasper Knox will be the liaison for Steve Rodgers. Agent Zacharia Wisely will be the liaison for Clint Barnes. Agent Janice Winfield will be the liaison for Wanda Maximoff. Agent Winfield is part of the Category B Avengers who is gifted with light manipulation. She is the perfect match for Miss. Maximoff as she struggled to control her gift until she had help."
Captain Rhoads, Captain Davis, Dr. Strange and Tony stood up moving toward the door.
"Tony, please we need to talk. We want to live in the tower like old times." Steve said begging.
Tony scoffed. "Unfortunately for you, I have no desire or need to live in the old times. This bank is closed. It's time you guys experienced what it is like to not have a billionaire paying for your mistakes. Leave me alone and don't talk to me. You were never my friends. I have no desire to pretend that we were friends."
Tony walked out with Steve trying to follow. Rhodes got between them stopping Steve.
"You three will be at the mercy of your Lesions today since you broke several rules. They will decide how to punish you." Rhodes said with a smirk.
Steve turned to stare at the major. The smirk on his face and the other agents made Steve gulp.
"Well, kiddies. I think it's time for you to try the obstacle course. Good thing we have several different kinds. Get changed into something that can get dirty. Last night it rained, and the path is covered in mud. Meet us out by the gym in 15 minutes. Let's see how you like obstacle course 3." Major Knox said with an evil smirk.
All three rogues gulped. Something told them that they were not going to like these obstacles. By the time noon came, you couldn't tell what the rouges looked like as they were covered from head to toe in mud. They had gotten a reality check harshly.
