What you recognize I don't own. What if Heiji remembered but not Conan? Everything else still happens in my other time travel story except without Conan remembering things are slightly different thus why it's so short since it only involves what's different because of Heiji. As always thoughts are in italics and texts will be in asterisks

When Heiji learned about the car explosion at Reiha pass he knew that it was finally time to reunite with at least one person that secretly fought against the Black Organization through faking their death, at least that was his hope since he wasn't sure if Akai actually remembered the future or not, but he knew that he could figure that out easily enough. However before he reunited with an old friend he worried his parents by having his worst pacing session yet. This is because ever since Heiji remembered the future he would sometimes pace and mutter under his breath whenever he heard something on the news or heard reports from his father on the going on's in other districts, or he secluded himself in his room for a few days after visiting Tokyo. This time however when the news about Reiha was shown Heiji not only paced and muttered under his breath but had started and then deleted five different numbers in a rotating manner before giving it to his father with instructions not to hand it to him in the morning because, and they would qoute Heiji on this one

"I don' need the temptation ta call and risk everythin' if I don' haveta, I haveta trust 'em on this one"

This of course confused his parents but Heiji locked himself in his room for the rest of the night after handing over his phone with that cryptic sentence

"Kazuha, I have to go to Tokyo for a bit, don't come with me since it's private"

"Meeting up with Kudo again?"

"No, it's something else, but still personally important to me"

"Okay, but still I think I should come as well"

"No, best if you stay here and collect my homework, dad will tell school of course but you're in my classes so it's easier for you"

"Very well"

And so Heiji takes the train and eventually arrives in Tokyo and remembering what he'd been told, about how Akai hadn't lived in Kudo's house until after his apartment had burned down he simply searched for the name Okiya Subaru, and quickly found him

"Found ya, now ta hope that ya actually remember 'cause otherwise this'll be awkward"

And so Heiji arrives at Akai's apartment and waited patiently for Akai to answer the door as Okiya Subaru, which is exactly what happened

"Can I help you?"

"Maybe, I have a question ta ask ya but in private"

"Very well"

Once inside "Okiya" offered tea and gave it to Heiji with sugar, cream and other additives on the side which made Heiji slightly suspicious since in the future Akai had learned that sometimes Heiji wanted cream and sugar and sometimes he didn't in his tea but he also knew that it was also considered polite offering tea that ways and thus knew it wasn't solid proof that Akai actually remembered the future. As he drank tea Heiji started the conversation in a light tone, mentioning how he was in high school and thinking about college and had learned that Okiya was attending a college he was interested in and thus asked questions about it but finally Heiji knew it was time to ask a more serious question that was a disguised question regarding Akai's involvement in the Black Organization being taken down, though it was actually a two part question

"So, have ya heard about the explosion at Reiha pass?"

"Yes, it was in the news and very obvious"

"Think ya have everything sorted out so that those who shouldn't know the full truth about things yet don't find out until it's time? I mean sure it might be handy to have yer fellow FBI agents involved but not the best when ya are supposed to be dead, wonder if Bourbon will get in on the action soon, and I'm also wondering if ya have contact with him"

"Yes I have contact with...now hold on a minute, what are you doing asking questions like that?"

"Hattori Heiji at your service...Akai Shuichi, FBI agent and former spy within the Organization, code name Rye, of course you already know my name since in the future we worked well together and ya basically gave away the fact that Bourbon, aka Amuro Tooru, aka Furuya Rei also remembers the future"

Akai tries to think of a way out of this situation but quickly realizes that it was impossible and so sighs and gives in revealing himself

"You have me Heiji, of course you probably already know that Kudo doesn't remember the future, at least as of when I last saw him yesterday he didn't remember the future"

"I know, hard knowing that but it is what it is, can ya contact Furuya now and let him know I remember so that we can get ta planning thing already?"

"No, not yet, I need at least another day before I can do so primarily because of the fact that quite frankly it's too late in the day to do so now, you know as well as I do what his job actually is"

"True, forgot about that actually"

"Still...you took a big risk you know that?"

"I know, but I also felt it was necessary and worth it, let him know about me ASAP okay?"

"Okay, and...my boss knows the truth about me being alive, do you want to get in contact with him as well? I mean before you did originally so that we can start coordinating a lot sooner than before considering..."

"No too dangerous, I know that there's possible infiltration already but I'm too isolated and if my phone is discovered by the wrong people, or even my dad..."

"Oh right, I forgot for a moment that the encryption that was put on your phone happened much, much later than wished for and that your father never did find out about us until after the fact"

"Yeah, Kudo and I risk too much already by talking about cases over the phone, talking to Bourbon, in any of his forms over the phone is a risk we just can't take, I'll talk ta him whenever I'm in Tokyo"

Once evening had passed Akai contacted Furuya and let him know that Hattori remembered the future though Conan as of that point in time didn't

"I see, I want to be in contact with him regularly and I have a way of doing so without it being suspicious, is he still with you?...okay I'll talk to you later then...bye"

And so that afternoon Furuya heads to Akai's current apartment

"Hattori Heiji, I honestly didn't think we'd be meeting up so soon"

"I know, but it seemed ta be the best option really"

"Yes, now then, do you have your phone with you?"

"Of course"

"Let me borrow it real quick, I have a solution though to be honest it's not one that's supposed to be known yet"

"Sure"

A few minutes later Furuya hands Heiji his phone back

"There, now it's as secure as my phone is so that no one finds out I'm PSB should I have to make contact with with Organization members, you can talk to anyone at any time and no one will know it since the encryption on that phone is top notch, as is the scrambler, only you and the person you're calling will understand the phone conversation"

"Got it"

Heiji is then given the numbers to Furuya's and James's phones though with Black Heiji promised not to make contact outside of the initial this is my phone number deal unless the Osaka police were infiltrated by the Black Organization or if James made contact first, which would actually happen twice within six months. The first time James contacted Heiji it was because Jodie and Camel were going to Osaka soon after Akai's "death" and thus he wanted Heiji to keep a discreet eye on the two of them to see how they were coping with the situation, the second time contact was made was when another FBI agent flew into Osaka presumably for tourism reasons but in reality was scouting out potential new bases to have in the fight against the Organization. And then eight months after Heiji got the phone numbers for Akai, Furuya and James he suddenly texted all three of them

*Black Organization infiltrated Osaka police at high enough levels that I'm in danger, request help figuring out next step*

When all three saw the text they set up an emergency meeting between the three of them

"How are we going to deal with this situation?"

"Fake his death, it's the only option"

"Yes, but his father is chief of police in Osaka, we'll have to fake his death in a way that will convince his father that he's dead without looking into it further than absolutely necessary"

The three start brainstorming ideas in turns each being shot down when suddenly Akai hits on an idea that had been done in the future, but needed to be told to James in a way that didn't make James realize that he and Furuya were from the future. This is because while James knew that Furuya was with the PSB Furuya and Akai managed to ease that into the conversation when James first met Furuya a month after Akai faked his death, stating that Furuya had discovered Akai's FBI connections after the failed operation two years earlier and while there was tension initially because of something between the two of them Furuya ultimately decided to work with the FBI to take down the Organization since he was still inside of it as a spy

"Kazami"

"What about him Akai?"

"Remember a few days ago how I was frantically blowing up your phone with text messages asking about his status?"

"What of it?"

"It's because I dreamt that he had drowned in the ocean while on a case, now then it would totally be fake and Hattori Heiji instead of Kazami but..."

"I see, that could work, I can give orders to my men to fake a case that needs Heiji but...we don't really have anyone scuba trained"

"That's where the FBI comes in, I'm sure James can call in a few agents that are certified for scuba, just like with Dr. Araide"

"Yes, I'll call them now"

"We'll also need to make sure that Conan doesn't get too involved because if he gets involved Megure's department gets involved as well"

"Right, I'll have that covered too"

And so though it took some work eventually Heiji's death was faked and Furuya had made sure that only PSB officers were on Heiji's boat, and though they were confused as to why they were fighting a teenager and making him fall overboard they obeyed their orders and the FBI agents trained in scuba were awaiting their own part in this act which came soon enough. Once Heiji was safely away and a search team started Heiji was secretly taken to a temporary FBI safe house and once he was sure he wasn't being observed he texted Akai and Furuya

*So, who was the one who thought of using the same plan we used in the future to fake Kazami's death to fake my death?*

*Akai did, and in fact had to remind me of that method since I didn't remember just by hearing Kazami's name even though we were discussing faking your death*

*I see, Furuya I know it's a lot to ask of you, but could you also keep an eye on my father?, my death is going to hit him hard once he accepts that it's true, and even if it's through drowning in the ocean which means no chance of recovering my body he's still eventually going to wonder if there was anything that could have been done for me, and with my "death" he might actually discover the Organization before he did in the future which was when everything was over with*

*Will do, by the way we're going to need your help soon, Akai hasn't revealed himself to his fellow agents yet regarding his status as alive and we're both thinking that we might have to change how that happens this time around, further details when we meet up in person though*

*Right, I never did hear that story by the way*

*Then we'll tell it to you once we meet up, also...we want to hear how you figured out Kudo doesn't remember the future like hoped for, and how you remembered it when he doesn't*

And so the group gets together and Furuya and Akai explain how Akai revealed himself to Jodie and Camel in the original timeline, including the fact that Furuya was trying to figure out if Akai was truly alive or not due to a grudge between the two of them that got resolved later and that had been primarily one sided

"I used PSB agents that night instead of Organization members but still, I never apologized to those two for my actions that night which put them in danger I was just...blinded I guess"

"We know Rei, and Jodie and Camel never blamed you for that after I explained things to them, now then, how is it that you remember the future and yet Kudo doesn't? I'm also wondering what the trigger for your memories was, I hope it wasn't the case that you helped on by being disguised as Kudo"

"It wasn't, and it wasn't the busjacking case where he first saw you either Akai, it was actually when I first saw Jodie and suspected her of being a Black Organization member"

"Oh?"

"Yeah, she was suspicious and so Kudo and I thought that she might be an Organization member looking for Haibara or Kudo, though we eventually concluding that while she was suspicious she was for the moment harmless. The next day though I finally remembered that she was an FBI agent currently in Japan so that she could fight the Organization more directly since they were mainly active in Japan at this point in time. It was after that incident that I kept a close eye on your names so that I could know when there was potential Organization activity that Kudo didn't tell me about in the original timeline, and then of course I was also looking for incidents that were better known, like your faked death Akai. I was also waiting for Mizunashi Rena to appear so that I could tell just about when I could get in contact with you guys again since I knew it would be too dangerous beforehand all things considered, but once Kir came into the picture I knew that Reiha Pass wasn't too far behind and so I simply waited for the moment to strike"

"I see, by the way Akai, how am I supposed to get close enough to Kir so that I can talk to her and tell her the truth about me? I've already tried three different times and each time I try she makes an excuse to not talk to me, despite the fact that I'm trying to keep both of us alive in that place without blowing our respective covers. It doesn't help that she's currently being watched closely due to recently faking your death to get back into the group so any ideas to help me show her I'm an ally would be greatly appreciated right now"

"I'm not sure Furuya, we don't have much contact for safety reasons as you well know"

(Sighs) "I know, I was just hoping you were able to think of something on the spot is all"

"Unfortunately not"

"For now though I think you two have forgotten why we're here in the first place, revealing Akai as alive to his fellow agents who currently think he's dead, does Scar Akai appear this time or not by the way? I'm only asking because that affects plan making"

"Good point Heiji and unfortunately he does appear due to the Organization wanting confirmation of your death Akai, not just me this go around"

"I see, then we're going to have to plan around that issue because what you did affected them emotionally Furuya, I know that in the original timeline you were deliberately hurting them emotionally, but this time..."

"This time it's by force, though to be honest your death was faked a couple of months ago Akai, so why now Furuya?"

"Vermouth waited until now to activate me instead of activating me within a week or so in the original timeline, and like I said I can't approach Kir to let her know the truth about me since she's not letting me do so and I need her to know the truth so that we can coordinate things better"

The group thinks and then Heiji snaps his fingers and speaks up

"I think I have an idea, Furuya can Organization members request partners if they feel it's necessary for the job? I mean...I know that Gin and Vodka were always partners and you and Vermouth were partners as well but..."

"Yes, we can request temporary partners, but why are you asking?"

"We can reveal Akai to his fellow agents and your true allegiance to Kir all at the same time if we plan this right, and...though I'll have to be disguised I think I can join in the fight again"

"No Hattori, you're not to risk it, not even with my fellow FBI agents, I know you hate doing this to everyone, especially Kudo, Kazuha and your parents but you must remain dead to everyone until we know it's safe"

"But..."

"No Hattori, Akai's right, I'm not positive but I'm sure the Organization member is still in Osaka and will be keeping a close eye on your father to see if you're alive or not, just like I'm going to have to do for the FBI soon per Organization orders, I'm going to transfer Kazami to Osaka and as soon as it's safe you can do whatever you want, including revealing yourself as alive but put into hiding for your own safety, which I can do as Zero of the PSB, and eventually at some point while stuck in this safe house I'm sure you can help the FBI with any planning that's needed to fight the Organization"

"Okay, I guess it's just...I hate the situation I'm in and even though we only just faked my death I want to help however possible still"

"In time Hattori, you can join the fight again properly in time, and I'll keep an eye on Kudo for you in the meantime"

"As will I Hattori, Bourbon and I have him, I promise"

"Why Rye, I didn't realize you were going to go code name on me during this meeting"

"We're making plans regarding the Organization, I think code names are relevant in this case"

"Good point, still if we're going to get Kir to trust me it has to be after I reluctantly mess with the FBI emotionally, especially Jodie who has feelings for you Akai"

"Then let's get planning"

"Not yet"

"Why not?"

"While it's not going to be now, within a few days your 'death' will be announced Heiji, and when that happens I will have to go to your 'funeral' even if it's not made public"

"Oh...I understand"

The next day Kazami snuck onto the Osaka police force and reported that Heiji's father was finally ending the search for Heiji and that the "funeral" would happen in a week. And as promised Rei did attend Heiji's "funeral" and even managed to sneak Akai into the funeral as well, and Akai managed to record everything for Heiji and allowed him to see it upon his return to Tokyo

"I knew it would hurt dad in doing this but...if I want to stay alive hurting my parents now will be worth it in the long run. Furuya, does Kazami have orders to take down the spy early if at all possible?"

"Not exactly, he has orders to try and discreetly collect evidence about it however he's to remain safe while doing so, which means you might have to remain 'dead' to your family and friends for several years"

"I knew that when we came up with this plan, I was just hoping that there was a faster route was all"

"Unfortunately not, now then shall we start planning on how to reveal Akai's survival to the colleagues who don't know the truth yet?"

"Let's do it"

Ultimately it would take three months to come up with a plan that would reveal Akai's status as alive to his fellow agents while at the same time revealing to Kir that Bourbon was actually a NOC as well working to take down the Organization and was only trying to keep the both of them alive in that place

"I'm sorry for not letting you talk to me sooner Bourbon"

"It's okay Kir, being a NOC is hard and you have to do things that you normally wouldn't so that you stay alive, however there's someone here tonight that cannot be mentioned, other than Akai that is"

"The teenager I saw with you guys, I recognize him as the son of the Osaka police chief, who was supposed to have died months ago due to drowning"

"Yeah...we faked his death and unfortunately he has to stay dead because of an Organization member within the Osaka police, it's too dangerous for him to be home right now because of certain things that I can't talk to you about"

"Right, I'll do my part to keep the secret then, just like I've kept the fact that Akai's still alive a secret this whole time"

"Still, how long will we have to keep this up?, he belongs with his family and the chance to finish his education"

"I know, I know, but until we deal with the Organization he'll have to remain dead so that he can stay alive"

"Doesn't mean he can't figure out a way to contact his family Bourbon"

"Yes Kir, it does, I just told you that an Organization member has infiltrated the Osaka police and thus his dad is being watched carefully"

"Then I guess we have work to do if we're going to reunite him with his family sooner rather than later"

"Indeed we do"

"By the way Bourbon you're going to have to cover my fellow agents soon, and Heiji you might be allowed out of the safe house too"

"Oh, the sniper incident, didn't your sister get sniped in the shoulder protecting Kudo?"

"Yes she did, and that's why if James allows it you're being let out of the safe house, with a disguise naturally, but I want you to watch over the two of them discreetly"

"Will do"

"Kazami is in Osaka now per my orders to keep your father safe Hattori, however I have other men that can help cover your fellow agents in regards to having their weapons on them Akai, promise"

"I know, still...how are we supposed to get Hattori involved? I want him involved but James won't go for it without a solid disguise for him since Kudo is good at detecting someone in a disguise"

"Oh?"

"James did a recent test for some new arrivals, with Japanese government permission Rei, something about a new database program or something of the sort, anyways James had them disguised after Kudo had met them once before and Kudo knew it was them instantly"

"I see...then we're going to have to be excellent in disguising Hattori if we want him watching over Kudo and your sister discreetly"

When the time came to deal with the sniper case it turned out that Hattori didn't need a disguise after all, instead one of the newer FBI agent arrivals asked for Hattori personally and kept Hattori by his side the entire time while keeping an eye on Kudo and Sera, though for Sera he wasn't sure why he was watching out for her, not knowing that she was the sister of the (to him and most of the agents at the moment at least) late Akai Shuichi, the best sniper the FBI ever had. Finally though the case ended and while it hadn't gone exactly as planned everyone was still alive at least

"Hey, you did good kid, by the way do you know who the sniper at the end was?"

"No, but they must be good for James-san to agree to work with them, that and the PSB since from what I heard the FBI was working alongside the Japanese police for this case"

"Yeah, guess so, I just wish..."

The agent goes silent long enough for Hattori to speak up

"What?"

"That Akai were still alive, he was the agency's best sniper, but he died in the fight against a major criminal organization"

"I see" (thinks) "someday you'll learn the truth, I promise you, but until that day you have to continue believing that Akai's dead"

That night Rei and Akai snuck Heiji into the Kudo household for an important reason

"Heiji, how did you die in the original timeline? I'm just wondering because all we knew is that you had died, Kudo told us not to come to the funeral even though for Rei it would have been very easy since you were buried in Japan"

"Yeah, well...it's because he didn't want you to see me like that, it was bad guys, I was captured by criminals and tortured to death, my last thoughts were of my family and Kudo, hoping it wasn't a friend who found me in that state, as it is from what I secretly managed to gather from our hidden ally, while the damage was somewhat repaired it couldn't be completely undone and I nearly had a closed casket funeral"

"Oh, well I guess we'll just have to hope that doesn't happen this time around"

"Agreed"

Ultimately it would take another three years, and Kir would be forced to flee the Organization, during that incident Akai would finally be revealed as alive to the FBI at large and it would be discovered that James, Jodie and Camel had known the longest of the agency, and that James had actually known from the start about his status. Plus it was discovered that KID had been brought back to the past physically and living under a different name, but eventually the Organization was taken down and Hattori could finally reveal himself to his family, his dad took the news especially hard, but he understood all the same once the full story was given to him. As for Shinichi he had been given a permanent antidote six months before the fall of the Organization and he too took the news that Heiji had been alive the entire time hard, especially because other than Haibara Heiji had been his chance for normality in brief moments. As such it took longer than wished for but eventually Shinichi forgave Heiji for the deception and he wasn't exactly happy with Furuya or Akai either once their part was explained but in time all three were forgiven and Kudo and Hattori even joined the same police station and became detectives eventually making a great team. In time they would retire but not before having an excellent solve rate, and even stopping the return of the Organization before they really took a foothold in Japan, and when they died they were buried side by side even though the deaths were a few years apart
