"Do you ever wish that you were a star?" Monty stares at the sky, not glancing in my direction to see if I'm listening.
"Have you?" I respond. Laying together on the manor's rooftop has been our habit for years. We come out here every night we can to admire the sky. It has become our only escape as of late.
"All the time. I like to imagine being up there in the sky watching over everyone. I'd be infinite and untouchable." He looks over at me as he says this. I can see constellations shining in his glossy eyes. His tears have become pools for the sparkling balls of fire to reflect in.
"If you were a star, I'd be left all alone."
"No, you wouldn't! You'd be right beside me like always. The only difference is that as stars there'd be nothing that could separate us." He looks back at the night sky as the pools leak down his face. "Not even death himself could take me away from you."
"Monty and August, partners in crime. Forever causing mischief across the cosmos."
We both chuckle at my words before falling silent. I can feel my own tears create trails across my face. I can see my vision start to blur but I refuse to blink away the tears as look at the endless sky.
Even though we are not talking, I know we are thinking the same thing. Some would claim it is our twin telepathy, but there are no psychic abilities involved. We are leaving for Hogwarts tomorrow. Neither of us knows what the future will hold for us but we will hold on to each other for as long as possible before our inevitable fates.
After a few moments of silence, Monty speaks again. "I wish we could pause time and stay here for at least a few more hours. I don't want to go back inside yet." I grab his hand and we continue to lay there until the sun begins to make its way over the mountains. We can no longer ignore reality.
I stand up first and gently pull Monty up with me. We make our way back to the window that leads to my bedroom. Once we are back in our room I quickly close and lock the window as we both jump into our beds and lay down once again. There are many rooms in the manor that we could use. Our parents used to insist that we had our own separate rooms but that is a battle we refused to lose. After months of arguing, they finally gave up and let us stay in the same room.
The moon and stars are not there to keep the darkness from taking over. I can no longer see more than a few inches in front of me, but I'm not afraid. As long as Monty is with me I can never be afraid. I drift asleep and dream of dancing in the sky with Monty as we look down at the Earth.
Authors Note:
Hello Everyone!
I have thought about making a marauders story for a long time and I have finally gained the motivation to start it. I will warn you, I will not be consistent with updates at all. I will create chapters randomly and I won't have a fixed schedule. This chapter was relatively short, but I just wanted to introduce you guys to the main people in the story. I hope you enjoyed it!
