What A Mermaid Holds Close To Her

Kairi rose out of the water with a smile as she glanced up to see Silver floating nearby a peach tree, the hedgehog selecting one of the ripe fruits and biting into it, enjoying it immensely. Seeing this, the girl-turned-mermaid giggled quietly before deciding to sing to the one she loved.

"Come near where you are,

Hear my call that reaches you,

Let it fill you with joy and love,

My greatest treasure I hold close to me."

Silver paused in eating the fruit, his ear twitching as he heard singing and he turned to see Kairi was looking at him and she was smiling, to which he smiled back before his jaw dropped in awe at hearing her start to sing again.

"Our love flows with the water,

Silver was mesmerized by his love's singing and floated closer to the water unconsciously, which Kairi noticed and smiled before reaching up and catching him as he gave her a lovestruck look. Giggling, she headed for the shore, her mermaid tail transforming into legs as she guided Silver to the beach and he floated alongside her, still looking at her with love. "Silver? You okay, Handsome?" She asked.

"Pretty," he said dreamily.

She giggled. "Silver, wake up, Handsome," she encouraged, gently shaking his shoulder.

Just then, a ripe peach fell from the tree they were under, hitting Silver on the head and startling him. "AAAHH!" He exclaimed before suddenly, he fell to the ground, getting sand and peach juice all over his head.

Kairi managed to hold her laughter in as she was worried about him. "You okay, Handsome?" She asked, helping him back up again.

He nodded, looking a bit embarrassed. "Yeah," he said before making a face as peach juice and sand were all over his head and quills. "I...uh...you have a beautiful voice." He blushed after saying this.

She giggled. "Oh? You liked hearing me sing?" She asked teasingly.

He nodded, blushing more. "I felt...mesmerized," he admitted. "Like...you had hypnotized me."

"Oh?" She asked, now curious.

He nodded. "Do you...maybe have that power?" He asked.

"The power to hypnotize people with my voice as a mermaid?" She clarified and he nodded. "Not that I know of."

He hummed thoughtfully before going over to the water and diving into it, trying to clean the sand and peach juice from his quills. Kairi smiled. "Here, let me help," she said.

He smiled and nodded, sighing as her hands touched his quills, being careful and he was soon floating on the water as she carefully got the last of the sand and fruit juice off of him. "There," she said, smiling.

He smiled up at her, seeing her eyes sparkling and he got lost in her eyes, gazing dreamily up at her. She giggled. "What's that look for?" She asked.

"You're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen," he admitted, still looking at her with a lovestruck look. "You sure you can't hypnotize people?"

She giggled again. "I'm sure," she said.

Tails landed nearby on the Tornado, waving to the couple before he began working on the plane. The couple headed out of the ocean and went up to the two-tailed fox. "Everything okay, Tails?" Silver asked.

"I think so. The engine was making some noise, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't clogged with sand again," Tails said.

"Clogged with sand again?" Kairi asked.

"Yeah. Someone thought it would be funny to pour sand into the engine last night while I was asleep," the fox said. "Sonic caught the culprit, but it's been a mess to clean up."

"Can we help?" Silver asked.

"Sure."

The three of them worked on the plane and the engine was soon running smoothly again. "Ah, that's better," Tails said, smiling. "Thanks, guys."

"You're welcome, Tails," Kairi said.

Silver nodded before remembering something. "Hey, Tails. How much do you know about mermaids and stuff like that?" He asked.

"I know a bit," the fox said. "Why do you ask?"

"Well...something happened earlier and I was wondering if Kairi might have the power to hypnotize people."

Tails giggled. "When she sang earlier?" He asked.

"You heard?" Kairi asked, blushing a little.

He nodded. "Your voice carries really well," he said. "Some mermaids do have the ability to hypnotize people, but I think in your case, Kairi, it only works on Silver because you love him and he loves you. Although I've not read anything to prove this theory."

Silver smiled. "Well, she doesn't need to hypnotize me for me to love her with all my heart," he said, looking at his mermaid, who blushed.

Tails nodded. "Like I said, it's only my theory, but I think the reason you were so awestruck by Kairi's singing is because you love her so much," he said. "And Kairi was singing a love song, which shows how much she loves you."

Kairi giggled. "Of course I do," she said, smiling sweetly at Silver. "I'll have to sing more often to mesmerize my handsome guy."

Silver smirked, seeing she was being playful. "And I'll have to do this more," he said, floating and scooping Kairi up in his arms, kissing her deeply on the mouth while flying away.

Tails chuckled as he got back to work on the plane.

Kairi was breathless as her love kissed her and she kissed him back. They gently parted after a moment and she took a deep breath. "Wow," she said. "That was quite a kiss."

He kissed her again. "You're what this hedgehog holds close to his heart, my lovely mermaid," he said.

Giggling, she kissed him once more as the sun set on the horizon, painting the sky in lovely colors.
