SET IN SONIC BOOM!
HEADCANON POST:
Sonic middle name in Sonic Boom is actually Theodore. The reason why everyone thinks it's "The" is because a fire burned his birth certificate (Among other things) and the villagers, being the villagers, assumed that his middle name was "The" because that was all that was left.
"Hey Sonic I just realized.. Why do people call you 'Sonic The Hedgehog' like 'The' was part of your name?"
Asked Tails as he listens to his radio. "Erh- well pal, it's just because of, ugh, this." Sonic gave Tails a burned certificate.
Stick came out of nowhere and grabbed the burned certificate from the fox's hands. She had a surprised look and clenched on the certificate.
"YOUR NAME WAS JUST REALLY 'THE'?!" Exclaimed the badger and waved the certificate. Tails also had a surprised look, and also looked at the certificate.
"Sonic.. Why was this even your name?!" Tails also Exclaimed.
"Can you guys be quiet? My middle name is actually Theodor. It just got burned from a fire. That's why it got cut to 'The' instead of Theodor. So that's why the village calls me that. I honestly don't really mind."
Sonic said with a shrug and sat on a couch.

"YOUR MIDDLE NAME IS THEODOR?!" ofcourse, the doctor had to be part of this. Sonic groan and nodded. "So what? It's just a name!" Sonic pointed out.
"SO WHAT?! I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS! THIS COULD-"
The gang just defeats the badniks while Robotnik rambles on and on..
