"Catch!" Emily threw a football to her best friend, Zoe. "Haha, you're gonna have to throw better than that if you want to make the 7th grade Baseball team!" zoe replied, watching as the ball soared about 15 feet to her left. "I'll go grab…" Emily trailed off. "Crap, it's the Delancey Brothers." "Well, well, what do we have here? You should slip into something more comfortable, like a coma." 2 tall, stocky boys strutted up to the girls. "Leave us alone, Oscar." Zoe said. "Or else what, shorty?" Oscar laughed. "Come on, cough it up." Emily stood up straight. "She's not giving you her lunch money, asshat. Now piss off before someone gets hurt." "Oh, someone's getting hurt, alright." Oscar's brother, Morris said. "And it's NOT gonna be me." All of a sudden, Morris's fist flew through the air, and met Emily's face. Crunch! Blood dripped out of her nose, leaving red splatters on the pavement. Emily fell to the ground in pain. "NO!" Zoe shouted, Running at Morris. Emily stood up and yelled, "Zoe, STOP!" Before she knew it, Oscar's fist was an inch from Zoe's face, and instinct kicked in. emily felt a rush of strength course through her, and then oscar's fist stopped in midair. Everything around her was still, drops of sweat hovering in midair around oscar's head. "What the…" emily walked up to oscar, and swiveled his fist around so it pointed towards his face. She realized she had a sort of tension in her hand, and she released it. Suddenly, everything was in motion again.

A few hours later, when she got home from school, she ran into the kitchen, yelling "DAD! SOMETHING HAPPENED AT SCHOOL TODAY AND I-" there was a note on the fridge. It read: Something came up. I had to go into work for an emergency. I might be gone for a few days, if you need anything, call aunt amy. But whatever you do, don't call the police. Love, Dad

Emily sighed. This sort of thing happened every few months. Her dad had this super secret job he refused to talk about in front of anyone, and Emily's Family moved often. Her mother had left when she was just four years old, and it was just her and her dad. She went to her room, opened an incognito tab and googled- can people do magic? A few hours of perusing the dark web later, she found out that a gene called 247f caused certain abilities in people, such as enhanced abilities and the ability to do magic. Apparently, only 0.000000001% of the population had it and it was highly unheard of. Jacob Wills found he had the gene by experimenting on himself. "So that's why this article was so deep in the dark web!" Emily exclaimed. She closed the tab, headed to the basement, and tried to figure out what else she could do.
