CHAPTER THREE

"POLICE, WE HAVE A WARRANT, WE'RE COMING IN!" BAM! The battering ram shattered the lock on the door, splinters flying. Emily spaced out, looking at the officers bursting into her house. "Garcia, Maybe you shouldn't be here." Officer Owens suggested. "Yeah… I just wonder what could've happened here. I mean, it's been 8 years since I've seen this place." "Let's head back to the station. You can… run tip lines, or work the front desk?" "Sure." Emily replied, happy to get away from this awkward situation. She and Officer Owens drive back to the station in silence. They got back to the station and Emily hopped out, and Owens stayed in the shop. "Where are you going?" "I'm heading back to the scene, see what's what. Gotta get as much info as possible before the feds steal our operation-AGAIN." "Yes sir." Emily walked over to the doors and headed to the training room. She looked around and looked in the locker room to make sure no one was there, and shut the door tight. She sighed. Time to practice my magic. She closed her eyes, and imagined a calm lake, with ducks floating on it. She took deep breaths, then raised her hand ,opened her eyes, and sent a flow of energy through her arm. The punching bag across from her flew backwards, hitting the wall with a THUNK. "Good, but I can do better." Emily said to herself. She grabbed a vest and gun, and loaded it with rubber bullets. She placed the gun upright across the room, equipped a silencer, and drilled her eyes into the trigger. FWHICK! The gun fired. Emily flinched, and the bullet hovered in midair, less than a centimeter away from her body. "UGH!" she groaned. "I can't come that close!" she picked up the bullet and tossed it in the air, then spun it around with her magic. She set it down and started to clean up, but then she saw something that made her heart sink into her stomach. A flash of movement at the door, now cracked open, as if someone was watching her.

Emily sprinted after the person, and grabbed them by the shoulder. She spun them around and it was… "Noah?" "Uhhhhhhh" "NOAH!" Emily exclaimed. "You CAN'T tell anyone what you saw, alright? In fact, it's better if you just forgot about it entirely." Emily couldn't mind-control someone, but if she had a bond with someone, she could plant a seed in someone's head. She stared Noah in the eyes, holding his shoulders. "You never saw me in the training room. You walked past, peeked in, and there was no one there." Noah had a far away look in his eyes. "Okay…" he replied, back to reality. "Oh, hey Emily! What are you doing here? Sarge said all hands on deck!" "Oh, i, um, just needed a break. Did they stop the drug op?" "Officer Garcia, a word?" The chief walked into the room, a serious look in her eyes. "Ummm, Chief Daniels, i- am i in trouble?" "We'll see. Follow me." Emily followed the chief, looking helplessly back at noah. What if she saw me practicing magic? Emily worried. They arrived at her office, and the chief motioned for Emily to sit. Sergeant Peterson and Captain Moore were already there. "What is it?" Chief Daniels hesitated. "We found our target. He's in custody." "What's wrong then?" Emily asked, confused. "He says he'll only talk to his daughter. Emily Garcia."
