Prologue
My name is Luigi James Manfredi. I come from a place you are familiar with. Brooklyn. I grew up there with my big bro, Mario Gregory Manfredi Junior. We were the pride and joy of our parents. Our Papa was a proud plumber and our Mama was a stay-at-home mom.
We lived happily. Mario constantly protected me from the bullies. He was the toughest kid in school. I was quite the weakling. Everyone knew it and they all teased me for it too. I hated going to school. I hated being bullied. And I hated being in my brother's shadow.
It only got worse when Mario and I lost our parents. Mario was torn as was I. We were only 15 and we were alone in the world. Sure, we still our cousins, Wario and Waluigi Muscarello but they were bad eggs. Well, that's what Mama always told us.
We had moved in with them and our Aunt and Uncle. It wasn't the same. It was never the same after our parents were buried in the earth. Mario blamed me for their deaths. I didn't blame him, I was such a terrible son. And I guess I always will be...
...
A few years later...
Mario was working on a piping system in the bathroom, the grease all over his 18 year old body.
"Man, I hate feeling like this..." He complained. "But this has to be done."
"How's it coming Mario?" Wario asked, eating a sandwich.
"Slowly." Mario replied, wiping off his sweat. "Would go faster if you helped me."
"Sorry," Wario apologized, clearly not apologetic.
Mario only rolled his eyes, walking away for just a moment. He had been working at his father's business since he dropped out of high school. He knew that he had to make some sort of living. Course, he hated having Wario as his assistant. Mario took off his hat, getting some water from the kitchen.
He got a glass from the cabinet, filling the brim to the top with water, and then gulped it down in a matter of literal seconds. He filled it yet again, gulping it all down. When his parents were buried, he and Luigi had a fight. The two went their separate ways, Mario focusing on the family business with Wario and Luigi furthering his education.
While Mario did worry about his baby brother now and then, he knew that going their separate ways was a better decision in the long run.
"After all, he can come back if he wants..." Mario stated, to no one in particular.
He got a third glass of water, wishing that things would change. After all, he wanted something better for himself than working on pipes for the rest of his life.
...
"Look at this! He's such a weakling!" A man teased.
"L-leave me alone!" Luigi hissed, the tears in his eyes and gripping his textbooks against his chest.
Everyone laughed, except for a few people. Ever since he and Mario went their separate ways, Luigi was becoming more of a weakling. He had too many fears and people were getting onto him about it. Luigi ran away from the crowd, sniffling. 'Why won't they just leave me alone,' he thought miserably. 'Mario, please... Come and find me...'
Luigi was studying to be a nurse. He always wanted to help those in need. But people were getting onto him for his choice. Everyone was used to a female nurse or caregiver. It hurt Luigi greatly that people were that narrow minded. Luigi got to his dorm that he shared with Satoji. Satoji was a bit older than Luigi, by two years.
He had messy short black hair, of Japanese descent, brown eyes, wearing a long sleeved navy hoodie, a gray undershirt, black jeans, white socks, and black running shoes. He was a bit shorter than Luigi but was very smart. He was rather skinny but had no muscle mass to him. Satoji looked at Luigi, concerned.
"Are you okay, Luigi-san?" He asked, walking over to Luigi.
"I guess so Satoji..." Luigi admitted, sadly. "I guess so."
"Missing Mario-san again?" Satoji asked knowingly.
Luigi nodded with tears in his eyes as he answered, "Si. I miss my bro."
