'Oh she is sweet' cooed Davina as she peered into the wrinkled face.
'You're not dressing her in that are you? Miss Drill interrupted, looking at the impossibly tiny red woollen socks.
'Her feet will get cold!' Davina exclaimed, frowning. Lavinia looked up and smiled.
'It was very good of Constance to shrink them down for Hetty.'
'That's what you've named her?'
'It was the name of my first familiar.'
Imogen nodded. She understood one got attached to familiars.
'Mine was a lovely black cat, I called him Sweep' said Lavinia.
'When I was at school, we had hogs.'
Imogen wondered what kind of school would allow hedgehogs as familiars. They were cute but useless. Although if anyone would have a useless familiar it would be Miss Bat. She looked at the others. Miss Hardbroom ignored the coddling from the corner and continued reading her book. Feeling Imogen's eyes on her, she looked up defensively.
'What? They want to keep the blasted creature, I can't stop them. I'm enabling them so they will stop making me babysit her.'
'It's a lovely gesture, Constance' said Amelia absentmindedly as she chomped her way through her cheese toastie. Constance tutted and went back to her book. Misses Bat and Crotchet were wrestling the hedgehog into the socks ('oh look she's smiling!') Not for the first time did Imogen wonder how she had ended up working here.
