C.1 - Dragon Versus Insect 1

Kaiba was met with the disgrace of having to face the winner of the japanese national in his first duel at this tournament he found himself reluctantly participating in, but he'd do anything if it meant having to succumb to some crazed looney's deranged threats.

Even if it was only temporary. The second he finds a way past Pegasus' defences, he's going straight to rescue his little brother from their clutches.

The ground of the wide grassy field surrounded on all sides by forest declined before sliding away as some mechanical monstrosity rose up from the new hole in the earth. A battlefield he was more than familiar with, even if he'd taken a break from the game for several months.

That prick stole his Solid Vision technology and was using it. How the hell did he get his hands on his equipment, who allowed this. Five names immediately come to mind.

The older Kaiba brother clenched his teeth tightly.

He'll be having strong words with those old fools when he was off this island, but until then he had to focus on the immediate problem.

That brought him here, to some nowhere island in the middle of the atlantic, duelling some creepy kid with a fetish for insects.

"Well, well Kaiba. You may have thought you have cornered me here in this forest, but in fact it is I who has led you into a trap of my own designs." The bug boy laughed annoyingly as he ditched to run up to one side of the Duel Field, stepping on the elevator and letting it take him up to one of the consoles.

"See you've been unwittingly fooled by my superior-"

"Shut up." The wielder of the Blue-Eyes cut off the boy, causing them to glare back at him.

The glare continued as the elevator he stepped on brought him to the other console. He placed his duelling deck down on his half of the board. The game could now begin.

"I don't have time for this nonsense. It doesn't matter who chased who, what matters is who is walking down to the docks and who is.." Kaiba pointed his thumb in the direction he knew he'd be going in once this was all over. "Going to that castle."

"Eh, you talk big game chump, It's been a while since we last duelled. I'm much stronger than I was back then." Weevil insisted.

"I don't even remember that."

"Well, I Do!" Weevil shot back practically bursting with venomous resentment. "Now if you hadn't so rudely cut me off I'd have explained at least in part what you were getting into, but now I feel like leaving you in the dark and in terror as my maggots eat you alive."

"Can we start already?" He replied, mockingly holding back a yawn.

"Oh you piece of- yes let's bloody start!"

"Duel!" They both cried out.

[Duel 1] Each Side Offering 1 Star Chip

Kaiba [2000LP]

Weevil [2000LP]

The field lit up, large speaker-looking projectors rose up at the four corners of the field and began to display foliage, trees and rocky hills. Kaiba looked down at this console and noticed that his Field Spell Zone was already glowing before revealing a card. Wasteland. A similar Field Spell appeared in this bug freak's Field Spell Zone. A Forest card.

It seemed that was the special hidden twist Pegasus was hyping up whenever he talked about this island. How disappointing. Was this it.

The console then declared Weevil would go first.

Both players picked up 5 cards from their decks and Weevil began the game.

"Let's see how you deal with this little guy, I'll summon Hercules Beetle in attack mode!" A large purple rhino beetle appeared on the field. He certainly wasn't little. That was for sure, he was about the size of a Volkswagen car. (LV:5/ATK:1500/DEF:2000)

Kaiba scoffed at the hologram, he had made better designs, it seems despite how Pegasus tried, it wasn't good enough.

"Then because we're playing on the forest field it's two effects activate. First since my monster is an insect, it'll gain 200 attack and defence points! Secondly since I just Normal Summoned a Normal Monster that gains power from the forest itself, I get to draw a card." Weevil declared as he picked up another card from his deck and his insect glowed with a burning aura. (LV:5/A:1700/D:2200)

"Heh, heh." Weevil sneered. "This'll do quite nicely. I'll set a card face-down and end my turn. Hope you don't croak too soon, i want to savour my victory"

"Prepare yourself, because I'm about to squash you." He threatened as he started his turn by drawing a card.

"Hey! Watch it, bub. I got the monopoly on bug puns here!" His opponent growled.

"Whatever." He grumbled back. He looked down at his hand.

Final Attack Orders, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Rude Kaiser, Mystic Lamp, Gift Of The Mystical Elf and Mystic Horsemen.

His answer to immediately win this game felt obvious. But if it did, then you'd have already fallen into his opponent's trap.

As expected Weevil immediately activated their Trap Card as his Standby Phase occurred. "I activate the trap card, Parasite Worm."

Kaiba's first instinct is to ridicule the insect-User for such a play. Not only was that card annoying to deal with, but it would ultimately be a pointless play in the grand scheme of things. A road bump at best. But the user of the white dragon held his tongue. Instead Kaiba went and crossed his arms as the disgusting hairy worm ripped itself out of the ground. (LV:1/A:200/D:500)

Though as much as he wanted to complain, it was a valid strategy, certainly something close to necessary to keep him at bay. Even if the card looked disgusting and it's effect was annoying more than hurtful.

Kaiba's eyes flashed back to his duel with just some kid with a golden puzzle around his neck.

He frowned. If he rages so easily the same as he did back then. Maybe he hasn't grown. He can't afford to not be as strong as possible, not when his brother was on the line here.

"Mhm," Weevil hums like a psychopath, at least in Kaiba's opinion. "See, This Continuous Trap can only be activated while I control an Insect Monster, it then summons itself as a Monster with a pretty destructive effect. Now the first time you summon a monster this turn, I can destroy my worm to destroy that monster, then you'll take damage equal to that monster's attack. Just try summoning Blue-Eyes White Dragon now. I know you want to."

"I think i'll pass, instead i'll play the Mystic Horsemen." (LV:4/A:1150/D:1550)

His centaur arrived on the field, brandishing their scythe before the parasite worm opened its gaping maw and leapt forwards, the worm's body contorting like it was elastic to wrap entirely around his mythical beast and eat it alive before it itself detonated like a bomb.

Kaiba (850LP)

He was undisturbed by the severe damage he had taken, the more annoying thing was his opponent's gloating.

"Ha! Take that, I have more copies of that worm in my deck. You'll be bug food soon enough, you didn't think you could simply breeze through this tournament like you could in your first nationals, did you? You don't think Pegasus saw your performances, running over everyone summoning super-high attack point monsters with zero downside and thought, hey I should do something to make our game more balanced."

"That Parasite was already in the game when I played my first nationals. Now be quiet." He said as he set Final Attack Orders and Gift Of The Mystical Elf Face-Down, then ended his turn.

Weevil wasn't wrong, Kaiba knew he simply won a lot of duels because he could afford the number of packs needed to even pull a single monster over 2000 attack.

This was especially egregious nowadays. Since all you needed to do to summon a monster in this current ruleset was to have the number of cards in your hand be equal to or more than that monster's total attack and defence. With each card being worth 1000 points. He'd need all six cards in his hand to summon Blue-Eyes for instance.

Of course his opponent couldn't keep using Parasite Worms forever. Players could only set up to two cards a turn. Not to mention only a single trap and a single spell could be used per turn. On top of that traps couldn't be used during the turn they're set and spells could be used during either turn, but only during the battle phase.

His opponent wouldn't be able to keep up their defence forever. So eventually he'd break through and win this game.

No, the biggest threat his opponent had was his ability to stall. Since there was no way to deal damage to a player if all your opponent did was set cards in defence mode. Weevil's deck especially thrived on this fact, Kaiba knew from their last duel a couple years back that it was at it's best when it slowed the game down.

He had to blitzkrieg the little bug. And quickly.

Weevil drew from his deck. "Without a monster on your field, guess I'm free to attack without fear!" Weevil cheered to himself.

"First, before that. I'll play the Basic Insect!" A green alien-like mantis marched among the holographic trees, also gaining a power boost from the field and letting Weevil draw yet another card. (LV:2/A:700/D:900)

"Battle!" Weevil called out. "This is for all the shit you keep giving me! Hercules attack them."

Kaiba didn't worry, damage could only be dealt through battle, as the Hercules Beetle run up and struck his podium where he played, he was only forced to send the top cards of his deck to the graveyard, since it was the level 5 Hercules Beetle that attacked, that meant five cards were gone.

"Next I'll equip Basic Insect with Insect Cannon L.V.2! This card can only be equipped to a level 2 insect monster, and by doing so they'll gain 1200 attack points! Also when they attack you directly I'll gain 200 life points for each card it sends to your graveyard." (LV:2/A:1900/D:900)

Now blast'em Basic Insect!" His monster, now equipped with high-tech alien artillery, the bug then leaned forward aiming its cannon before firing a massive beam of energy straight at him.

He simply crossed his arms and took the blast, then sent two more cards from his deck to the graveyard.

Weevil frowned even if he had gained life points from the endeavour.

Weevil (2400LP)

He had a good hunch as to why the boy didn't look amused. "Is my lack of care getting to you?"

"Tch." The insect duelist glared back at him. "My turn is over. Take yours already!"

"I have things I should be doing. I don't have time to entertain you." I need to save Mokuba! "Draw!"

With only four cards in his hand right now, he couldn't summon Blue-Eyes and the second copy of it he drew wasn't helpful at the moment. He'd need to wait two more turns if he wanted to play it. That would be quite long. He should try and get himself in an advantageous position first before trying to muster enough hand strength to summon Blue-Eyes.

"I'll summon Rude Kaiser, in attack mode." He declared, placing the monster on the console. The large lizard man dressed in sharp armour, blades sticking out of it, roared. (LV:5/A:1800/D:1600)

"Battle!" He declared. "Rude Kaiser, destroy his Hercules Beetle!" His monster leapt forward and laid into the beetle, immediately breaking through its armour and stabbing into the innards beneath its shell before the monster shattered into light.

Weevil (2300LP)

"Fine, you destroyed my beetle, but you left yourself one of your weak monster unprotected."

"Have i? Perhaps you just don't know my monsters pretty well?" Kaiba replied, a smirk overtaking his expression. "Maybe it's not as weak as you think?"

"What?"

"Try anything you want, I doubt it'll help you." Kaiba welcomed Weevil to try his hardest. "How brave are you to find out."

"Just shut it, I've had enough of all that hot air you're blowing" Weevil growled back at the user of the white dragon.

"Seems our fields have evened out. Haven't they?"

"Not for long!"

"I'll end my turn there." Kaiba grinned as he finished riling up his opponent. His monster's blood-fueled strength faltered, its eyes stopped glowing as it fell down to one knee briefly before picking itself back up..

"Draw!" Weevil called out, adding a Sixth card to their hand. "I'll summon my Big Insect."

A large ant appeared. Nothing special about it, it was an ant the size of a big dog. Creepy, but definitely not threatening. (LV:4/A:1500/D:1200) Boosted by Forest. (LV:4/A:1700/D:1400), then Weevil drew another card, bringing their hand size back to six again.

"Next I'll enter my battle phase to activate: Insect Laser Cannon. This little beauty equips itself to an Insect Monster i control and gives it 300 attack and defence points, or…" Weevil snickered. "I can instead Special Summon any normal insect from my hand to Equip it to that monster. Also giving them the attack boost. I'll take the second option, of course, Special Summoning Killer Needle!" Another giant insect appeared on the field. A giant wasp, its wings buzzing intensely. (LV:4/A:1200/D:1000) Boosted to (LV:4/A:1700/D:1500)

"Goody, three annoying bugs." Kaiba commented dryly.

"Oh, buzz off. The show's just about to begin. Big Insect! Attack that prick's Rude Kaiser!"

Kaiba smirked. He knows his opponent wouldn't make such a dumb play if he didn't have some trick up his sleeve. He won't be surprised. "What do you have."

"It would be obvious to someone like you." Weevil frowned as he slammed another card from his hand. "I'm discarding the Silent Insect! This bug can sacrifice himself when a monster declares an attack to change an insect monster from attack position to defence position, and if it does…" Weevil paused to give a very smug grin. "Then it's points will be reduced to 0. A pretty pathetic defence value don't you think!"

Kaiba just shrugged as he grinned back at his opponent. On the Field Rude Kaiser began to take the knee as the giant ant began to skitter around them, like a predator encircling prey.

"Huh? You're smiling? Why the hell are you smiling!" Weevil demanded to know.

"Because, you just walked into my trap. Final Attack Orders! This card forces all our cards into attack mode!"

"My monsters are already in attack mode!"

"Well, mine weren't." Kaiba pointed out, switching his Rude Kaiser back to attack mode.

Final Attack Orders perfect card for punishing defense focused decks, of course. The fact it helps him hear is just a happy accident. Weevil didn't look happy though.

"Oh… oh no, it's a-"

"Sucker punch'em!" The Ex-champion ordered. Rude Kaiser stood up at the last possible second as the giant ant was practically on top of them and uppercutted its head, slashing its bladed gauntlets across its underside, destroying it. Bringing Weevil's life points downwards slightly more.

Weevil (2200LP)

"Just great!" Weevil replied before reaching for a card in his hand. "I'll play the White Elephant Gift, sending Basic Insect to the graveyard to draw 2 cards."

Kaiba nodded. Unfortunately he couldn't stop his opponent from claiming such easy advantage.

Weevil frowned as he looked at his two new cards. The young champion looked practically mutinous as he glared at his card. He reached for a different one in his hand before stopping himself and shaking his head.

"I'll just end my turn there then." Weevil was forced to stop his attacks. With no way to protect his Killer Needle, it was essentially going to be a free kill on the next turn.

"My move!" He warned his opponent as he drew. A copy of La Jinn, Mystical Genie Of The Lamp. Interesting. But unneeded at the moment. At best summoning this card now would help Deck out Weevil, but if he waited another turn he'd get out Blue-Eyes and that would do that job so much faster.

"Battle! Rude Kaiser, Finish them off!"

His monster diced the Killer Needle. Destroying the Equip Spell attached to them.

Weevil (2100LP)

"Your move."

Weevil drew from his deck. He didn't look pleased with his hand.

"I'll just summon Kuwagata Alpha on the field in attack mode." Forest triggered, strengthening the monster and giving Weevil a fifth card in his hand. (LV:4/A:1250/D:1000) Boosted to (LV:4/A:1450/D:1200)

Defence isn't an option for him. This really was the best he could do. Final Attack Orders was a continuous Trap, meaning it would've just been changed to attack mode anyways if he played it in defence.

"I'll end my turn there." Weevil declared reluctantly.

Wordlessly Kaiba drew from his deck. "Now it's time I end this, I'll summon the mighty Blue-Eyes White Dragon!" His legendary dragon with sleek white scales and wings that could create a hurricane with a single beat of them arrived. (LV:8/A:3000/D:2500)

Weevil froze in horror as his ace arrived.

"Battle! Blue-Eyes, hit them with your White Lightning!" His dragon craned its neck gathering volts of volts of energy within its maw before blasting a beam of pure white at his opponent. Weevil's Alpha Kuwagata monster was vaporised instantly and the massive damage left the insect duelist staggering backwards.

Weevil (550LP)

"A..a.a." The national champion (Clearly not one of quality compared to himself) fumbled with his words in the face of such severe damage.

Kaiba decided to continue his play nonetheless.

"Rude Kaiser!" He called out next. His lizardman attacked Weevil, sending five more cards from their deck to the graveyard.

"Th-this isn't over!" the insect duelist claimed desperately.

"Put your words where your mouth is then. I end my turn." Kaiba finished.

Weevil, without thinking, immediately drew from his deck. "Draw! Ah!" The bug duelist beamed. "This is what i needed, I'll set two cards face-down, then summon Petit Moth in attack mode!" Weevil drew, Petit Moth powered up. (LV:1/A:300/D:100) became (LV:1/A:500/D:300)

He raised an eyebrow. "Still using that excuse of a monster?"

"Oh please, not all of us have a monster stronger than Blue-Eyes and as easy to summon. I'll take what I can get." Weevil replied aggressively.

"Hmph, fine then. Draw!" Kaiba called out. "I'll destroy your hope. Nothing you can play will stop me, I am an unstoppable force and you're definitely no immovable object"

"What do you think you are, some Dragon come to raid a castle of its princess?" Weevil continued. "You sound delusional. You're not winning this tournament. Now make your move!"

"I'll summon La Jinn, the Mystical Genie Of The Lamp." Kaiba placed the card on the console. A large man made from green fiery smoke rising from a lamp appeared. (LV:4/A:1800/D:1000)

"Now we battle! Blue-Eyes!"

"Now wait, Kaiba because I'm activating these two cards. Insect Barrier and DNA Surgery. My Continuous Spell creates a shield that prevents all insect monsters you control from attacking, the second one lets me change all monsters on the field to a certain type. Of course, I'm picking insects!"

Yellow beams of light divided the two player's field, then a pulse of light spread out from Weevil's Continuous Trap. As the pulse reached Kaiba's field. He couldn't look away as his monsters became grotesque, dragon wings replaced with bug paper thin wings, with lightning blue veins glowing. His dragon sprouted multiple concave lens eyes.

La Jinn's form shifted to that of a gigantic fly, while Rude Kaiser's skin was pierced from the inside, extra limbs growing and piercing out from between the pieces of scales and armour where extra limbs should not be.

"What the hell have you done?" He growled at Weevil.

"I stopped your entire advance!" Weevil grinned cockily.

"You've violated my dragon with that perverse card!" He growled. His Blue-Eyes! The card he spent so long trying to obtain, the one his brother was so happy to learn he'd found it. Now it was disfigured maliciously by his opponent. "You'll pay." He growled out at the Insect User.

"Oh don't be so dramatic." Weevil waved off.

"I'll end my turn there." Kaiba finished curtly.

"Then it's mine." The bug duelist said ominously as he drew from their deck, adding another card to their hand. "I'll begin by summoning my Cocoon Of Evolution, then activating its effect. Equipping it to my Petit Moth from my hand." Suddenly Weevil's Caterpillar drenched itself in string until it was just a gooey thing tied down to the ground. Occasionally pulsating grossly before going completely still.

"We're gonna be here a while. Kick back, get comfortable!" Weevil laughed. "Heh, heh, heh. Because you know what's about to happen, I'm going to start summoning the Ultimate Moth!"

End Notes

Hiya, Mimikree here

When i wrote this fanfic in a google doc and then pasted it over to this site, it erased all of my bolded text and i am still mad about it. But I digress.

See, This is just a simple small post I made simply because i needed to get the idea out of my head so i can focus on larger works without distracting myself. Something written while i was procrastinating on other works. Pegasus kidnapped Mokuba, so since Yugi refused to answer the call Kaiba was brought in instead. Expect plenty of Duelist Kingdom matches.

Speaking of matches, rules have been changed to add not make Blue-Eyes an immediate win button. It still will be, however, because those stats are huge. So here are the major rule changes TLDR.

- Instead of the no tributes, method of summoning. To Normal Summon you need your hand power to be equal or more than that monster's total ATK and DEF that you're attempting to summon. Hand power is equal to the number of cards in your hand x 1000. So Blue-Eyes. with a stat total of 5500, would require your hand to have itself and at least five other cards in your hand bringing you to a total of 6 cards in your hand.

- Spells and Traps each can only be activated once per turn, i think this was already a rule in the Duelist Kingdom Arc.

- Spells are all Quick-Plays, but can only be used during the Battle Phase. An original rule, though based on some occurances where it seems to happen in the show.

- Players can only Set two cards per turn. Another Duelist Kingdom Rule.

You may find some of these arbitrary, but i like working with them, so writing duels like this is interesting to me. Enjoyable even. Anyways thanks for reading.

Mimikree Signing off.
