Bella's pov

It's been a week since Carlisle told me the truth. Eight days since I walked through that door the first time. I've never knew what love was until that day. I never knew what being cared for felt like. If others knew my story it may seem weird. A human girl being adopted by a family of vampires, and for the first time in her life being loved. And I do understand how that may sound weird, but I don't think it is.

I've started to open up to more of my adoptive siblings other then Alice. Edward explained that he always felt lonely and that he was in an hour with mated vampires.

Oh yeah, after I learned about the vampire thing I learned that Emmet and Rosalie were together as were Alice and Jasper. I definitely could understand being lonely when you are around three other couples all hours of the day for who knows how long. I never thought about love throughout my life. I don't want to fall in love ever.

Rosalie has explained that she's happy to be somewhat alive but she hated it as well. Her dream when she was human was that she wanted to get married, have children, and grow old with her soulmate. She said that she was in love with the idea of love and that she was foolish because of that.

Emmet took me for a nature walk. The forest that surrounded their house was beautiful but a bit scary with all the other things that lived there.

Jasper explained how he can manipulate emotions. I thought that was a bit creepy until he said that you can tell when it was being done.

Carlisle pov

"She's getting along great with the others, I'm surprised honestly"

Esme walked over to me and smiled

"Are you really, it's like you said. All she needed was a little love"

"Yeah, I didn't think it be so fast though. I mean she was kicked out of so many homes and we had her a week and she's happy"

"She knew you though. It probably made her feel a little safer"

"And being in a household of vampires should make her terrified"

"Is it bothering you how well she adjusted"

"No sorry, it just feels like I should be waiting for something to go wrong"

She came closer and wrapped her arms around me. Then she whispered because of you that girl has a chance in this world

The next day

It is sunny out so no one could go to school. It be pretty sketchy if we only sent Bella and kept the other five home. I decided to take Bella to work with me today for some bonding maybe.

It was pretty warm out today. Ninety-eight degrees out today. It's the first time I saw her in shorts, I noticed she had tons of scars. At a closer look, they looked to be bite marks, all of them had patches of skin that was really pale. I had a theory but I'll ask her when we got to the office. Most of my day was probably going to be paperwork anyway.

After we got to the office I sat her down.

"You already knew about vampires, that's why you didn't really have much of a reaction" I told her

"How did you know" she asked almost as if she was in trouble

"I'm assuming those are bites all over your legs" She nodded again

"Would you like to tell me what happened"

"My dad would make money off of me. It was mostly the same three. After my dad was arrested I was terrified they'd come back for me" She started to cry at this point

"Hey, there's no need to cry. I won't let them hurt you. I promise"

Then I pause and started putting together the pieces

"That's why you were kicked out of so many homes, fear of being found"

She nodded at me. At that moment I picked her up and hugged her. I knew that I made the right decision at that moment but if she really was being hunted by a group of vampires, we all needed to protect her somehow.

"Do you know their names at least? We will do everything necessary to protect you"

"James, Victoria, and Laurent"

"It's going to be okay sweetheart, I promise"
